2018 Toyota Prius problems

The Toyota Prius (/ˈpriːəs/ PREE-əss) (Japanese: トヨタ・プリウス, Hepburn: Toyota Puriusu) is a compact/small family liftback (supermini/subcompact sedan until 2003) produced by Toyota. The Prius has a hybrid drivetrain, combined with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. Initially offered as a four-door sedan, it has been produced only as a five-door liftback since 2003.
The Prius was developed by Toyota to be the "car for the 21st century"; it was the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, first going on sale in Japan in 1997 at all four Toyota Japan dealership chains, and subsequently introduced worldwide in 2000.
In 2011, Toyota expanded the Prius family to include the Prius v, an MPV, and the Prius c, a subcompact hatchback. The production version of the Prius plug-in hybrid was released in 2012. The second generation of the plug-in variant, the Prius Prime, was released in the U.S. in November 2016. The Prius family totaled global cumulative sales of 6.1 million units in January 2017, representing 61% of the 10 million hybrids sold worldwide by Toyota since 1997. Toyota sells the Prius in over 90 markets, with Japan and the United States being its largest markets.

Common 2018 Toyota Prius problems
The 2018 Toyota Prius has been praised for its low ownership costs and high reliability. However, there are some common problems reported by owners. The most widespread complaint is the stereo system freezing, which can occur within the first 5,000 miles. This problem is caused by a software issue that makes the screen unresponsive, but it can be fixed with software updates available at dealerships. Some dealerships may charge around $50 for the update installation.
Another issue reported by some 2018 Prius owners is excessive noise from the sunroof, which typically occurs around 50,000 miles. This problem is caused by the gasket around the sunroof wearing out as the car ages. Replacing the gasket is a time-consuming process and can cost around $600, depending on local labor rates.
Dashboard damage is another problem mentioned by some Prius owners, usually around 100,000 miles. This damage is caused by leaving the car in direct sunlight without a dash cover or window cover, which can cause the dash to crack and melt. Preventing this damage is easier than repairing it, as replacing the upper dash panels can cost around $950.
There is only one recall on the 2018 Toyota Prius, which covers the engine wire harness. This recall addresses the potential for the wire harness to chafe and short out. Toyota will replace any damaged wire harnesses and install protective sleeves on all harnesses to prevent damage.
In summary, the 2018 Toyota Prius has a few common problems, including stereo system freezing, excessive noise from the sunroof, and dashboard damage. However, these issues are relatively minor compared to other hybrid cars on the market from the same year, leading to lower repair bills as the Prius ages.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-07
- VIN: JTDKARFP2J3
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I STARTED MY CAR, PUT IT IN DRIVE AND BEGAN TO MAKE A U TURN OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I HAD THREE TURNS I HAD TO MAKE IN QUICK SUCCESSION (U TURN, LEFT ON PUBLIC DRIVEWAY, RIGHT ON MAIN ROAD) TO GET ON TO THE MAIN ROAD, AND I DID THIS AT BREAK NECK SPEED. BY THE SECOND TURN I WAS GIVING ALL MY STRENGTH TO TRYING TO GET THE BRAKE TO WORK, UNSUCCESSFULLY (LOCKED), AND WAS FULLY FOCUSSED ON TURNING THE CAR SAFELY TO SAVE MY LIFE AT SUCH HIGH SPEED. MY TIRES SQUEALED ON THE THIRD TURN AND MY CELL PHONE FLEW THROUGH THE AIR. I COULD NOT MAKE A TIGHT RIGHT TURN SO MADE MY TURN IN TO THE LEFT LANE (PROUD OF MY DRIVING SUCCESS GIVEN THE SPEED). ONCE I NAVIGATED THE TURNS THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND BRAKES WORKED AS NORMAL. THIS ALL HAPPENED IN AROUND 20 SECONDS I'D GUESS, AND LESS THAN 1/4 MILE I THINK. JUST FORTUNATE THERE WERE NO CARS COMING IN EITHER DIRECTION. I AM ALIVE TO TELL THIS STORY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER AND AM AWAITING TO HEAR WHAT THE HAVE TO SAY. I AM PETRIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF GETTING BACK IN TO THAT CAR.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-08-07
- VIN: JTDKARFU0J3
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: I OWNED A 2008 PRIUS WITH 273,453 MILES WHEN I TRADED IT FOR A 2018 PRIUS ON 3/15/18. MY 2008 NEVER HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED; MEANWHILE, THE 2018 HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND THE 2ND IS NOW CRACKED WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF REPLACEMENT. ON 8/7/18 I WAS DRIVING IN A SINGLE LANE ROAD WITH NO VEHICLES AHEAD OR IN THE ONCOMING DIRECTION WHEN I HEARD A POP. WITHIN 5 MINUTES A CRACK BEGAN AT THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD AND EXTENDED ABOUT 9' UPWARDS AND TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE BY THE END OF THE DAY. NEXT MORNING THE CRACK WAS 17' LONG, AND BY THE 3RD DAY THE CRACK WAS 26'. AFTER THAT THE CRACK SEEMS TO STABILIZE. ON 10/9/18 I WAS DRIVING ON I-95N HEARD ANOTHER POP AND A 2ND CRACK BEGAN TO FORM. THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I HEARD A POP. AN ADDITIONAL CRACK STARTED THAT CURVED FROM THE DRIVER SIDE AND EXTENDED 14' FROM THE BASE OF THE WINDSHIELD 3' FROM THE OLD CRACK TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE. THE 2ND CRACK AFFECTED MY VISION SO I HAD HAVE IT REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. ON 11/2/18 I HAD THE OEM WINDSHIELD REPLACED FOR $250 (DEDUCTIBLE) PLUS $477 (TOYOTA CAMERA RECALIBRATION). ON 12/19/18 I HEARD A POP WHILE AT A STOP SIGN AND THE NEW WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A CRACK FROM THE BASE OF THE GLASS EXTENDING UPWARDS 4' THEN CURVED TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR ANOTHER 7.5' BY THE END OF THE DAY. THE NEXT DAY THE CRACK CURVED UP AND TO THE RIGHT SIDE FOR ANOTHER 7.25'. BY THE 3RD DAY, IT GREW ANOTHER 12' UPWARDS. ON 1/29/19 A SECOND CRACK FORMED NEAR THE INITIAL CRACK AT 3' HIGHER FROM THE BASE. THIS CRACK EXTENDED FOR 12' TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE. SO NOW I AM FACED WITH REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD AGAIN; INCURRING THE COSTS AND INCONVENIENCE. GIVEN THE FACT THERE WERE NO VEHICLE AROUND WHEN THE CRACKS HAVE REPEATED APPEARED I FEEL THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND NOT A FACTOR OF MY DRIVING.
WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-12
- VIN: JTDKBRFU4J3
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: NEW CAR JUST OVER 1000 MILES. REAR TIRE BLOWS ON FREEWAY, NO POTHOLE OR ANYTHING HIT. SINCE OWNING THE CAR I'VE HEARD A FAINT THUDDING WHEN GOING OVER 65 MILES AN HOUR. NO INDICATOR LIGHT AND THE TIRES FELT HARD, NOT DEFLATED WHEN I CHECKED. SO I THOUGHT IT MIGHT JUST BE AN UNEVEN ROAD MAKING THAT SOUND. NOW I BELIEVE IT WAS THE TIRE. I HAVE TONS OF PHOTOS IF NEEDED. I FISHTAILED ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO AN EXIT THAT I GOT OFF ON IT. LUCKILY DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.

- VIN: JTDKBRFU4H3
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: LAST YEAR,JUNE 2017, WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED WE NOTICED THERE WAS A HAIRLINE CRACK ON THE WINDSHIELD. WE RECEIVED SOME QUOTES SAYING IT WOULD BE ABOUT $900 TO FIX. SO WE DECIDED TO GO WITH AN ADHESIVE INJECTION AND PAID ABOUT $50 FOR SOMEONE TO COME FIX IT. HOWEVER, AFTER A MONTH, IT SPREAD. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD. LAST MONTH, SAME THING HAPPENED. CAR WAS PARKED, NOTHING HIT IT. SAME HAIRLINE CRACK. I HAVEN'T FIXED IT BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY EXPENSE. BUT IT HAS SPREAD. CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THE SAME ISSUE AND FOUND THERE'S A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THIS BUT IT'S FOR 2014-2016 TOYOTA PRIUS. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THIS PROBLEM FOR THE 2017 PRIUS. ALSO, THERE'S A RECALL FOR MY CAR FOR ANOTHER ISSUE.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-05-26
- VIN: JTDKBRFU5J3
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR I PURCHASED. THERE IS A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL MAKES WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I THOUGHT THIS WAS PART OF THE BEEPS THE CAR MAKES, BUT IT'S NOT. THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED, BUT THE BRAKE PEDAL CONTINUES TO MAKE A HIGH-PITCHED CHIRPING NOISE. I RETURNED TO TOYOTA SERVICE TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, BUT THEY SAID THAT THIS IS A NORMAL SOUND THAT OTHER PRIUSES MAKE. THIS CONCERNS ME THAT THE BRAKES ARE DEFECTIVE SINCE I'VE NEVER HEARD OF BRAKES THAT SOUND LIKE THIS.

I am thrilled to hear that you are enjoying your Prius Four Touring! With only 700 miles on it, the car already feels like a luxury vehicle that costs three or four times as much. The car is surprisingly heavy, which adds to the feeling of stability and quality. Getting in and out of the car is a breeze, which was one of the main reasons for my purchase. The eco mode is fantastic, and even on normal driving mode, I am still getting around 60 mpg. The car is both fast and quiet, and the comfort level is beyond belief. I love that the car even grades my eco-driving ability, which improves over time. The Four Touring model comes with safety connect, safety sensors, and a cruise control system that uses sonar to slow the car down if it gets too close to another vehicle. I have received many compliments on the car, and when I mention the mpg, people are amazed and start considering purchasing one for themselves. I would highly recommend the Prius to anyone who wants top mpg, reliability, speed, and comfort. After driving it for over six months and crossing the country twice, I can confidently say that it is comfortable, mpg efficient, and virtually trouble-free. Although it is not as good as my previous AWD in the snow, the traction control works fine, and the difference in mpg is obviously fantastic. Even in cold weather, I am still getting around 56.3 mpg on average. I use mid-premium gas on occasion and regular on most trips, and the mpg monitoring system is a great feature. The shiny black coat of the car is stunning and really sets it apart. I believe that purchasing a Prius was a wise choice for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs greater reliability, greater mpg, and greater comfort features. It is hard to imagine purchasing anything other than a Prius in the future. Even at 15,000 miles, my Prius is as good as ever. Despite hitting its fair share of potholes, the Bridgestone Eco Tires are holding up well. This car is truly outstanding and gives me the feeling of never wanting to let go.I absolutely love my Prius! It's such a sleek and stylish car, and I get compliments on it all the time. Plus, it's packed with all the latest gadgets to make my life easier and safer. The gas mileage is incredible, ranging from 54 to 60 mpg, and it even passed an environmental inspection with flying colors. I highly recommend the Prius to anyone looking for a reliable, comfortable, and safe ride. Even with Pennsylvania's potholes, the Prius handles like a dream and the tires still have plenty of tread after 24,000 miles. I can't imagine ever trading it in for a newer model. It's just that good!I love my Prius! It's the best all-around vehicle I've ever owned. I plan to buy another one in a few years, maybe a Rav Hybrid. I always choose hybrids or electric cars because I believe they are the future. My Prius has over 42,000 miles and is still running great. I get an average of 52.6 mpg and it only requires regular maintenance. Although there were some recalls, the dealers fixed them quickly during regular maintenance trips. I will always have a Prius in my garage, no matter how much I could afford more expensive cars. I'm almost at 47,000 miles and everything works fine except for the high beam on and off switch when on automatic set. Maintenance can be expensive, but it's worth it. I paid over $700 for my 45,000-mile check-up, which included replacement of a tire monitor, alignment, gas chamber cleaning, replacement of engine air filter and cabin filter, and an oil change. I even got new tires, which cost an additional $600. However, the Prius is a winner! I have over 76,000 miles on it and it's still running like new, dependable and reliable. When I moved to Florida, I was glad to see that Sun Toyota had the history of my car at their fingertips, so I didn't have to do maintenance items over again. I will probably buy a new Prius in 2023, but the auto insurance is so high in Florida because of lawsuits and greed that it really hinders one from trading and buying a new one.

I recently upgraded my trusty 2004 Prius to the 2016 model and I'm thrilled with the results! On my first fill up, I achieved an impressive 58 mpg, which only dropped to the low 60s until the colder weather set in. Even then, I still managed a respectable 54 mpg on average, which is fantastic considering we live at 6,000ft with plenty of subzero days. I'm happy to report that now that the weather has warmed up again, I'm back in the 60s! All of my figures are calculated using a calculator and gas pump readings, so you can trust that they're accurate. The ride is incredibly comfortable and the handling is great. Despite what some may say about the acceleration, I haven't had any issues passing anything on the road, not even a gas station! Unfortunately, I was injured in a fall and haven't been able to drive for the past 5 months, but I can hardly wait to get back into my little bugger and hit the road again. P.S. Last fall, I took it 200 miles into the mountains and went over a 12,000 ft pass twice in the same day, and it still managed to get 60 mph on the next fill up!

I've driven my 2017 Prius Two Eco for over 2500 miles, including a trip from Wisconsin to Wyoming, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations. The fuel economy is nothing short of amazing! The battery is used a lot to enable the car to run without the engine under light load. On my highway trip at 70 mph, including stops, I was able to average 55 mpg. Around home, at slower speeds on secondary roads, getting over 60 mpg is pretty easy. The engine turns on and off seamlessly while driving the car. The car has plenty of headroom, and I can completely stretch my legs (I'm 6' tall). The seat comfort is fine, although not quite as comfortable as my former VW on long trips. The available power is also fine, although it does not feel as effortless as my former turbodiesel 6-speed manual. The climate control is outstanding, very efficient, and intuitive to use, as are all the HVAC and radio controls. The adaptive radar cruise control worked well and is a nice feature. The automatic high beam dimming and lane drift warning work well too. When I picked up my car, it did not have any flaws, and I have not uncovered anything yet. Hopefully, the legendary Toyota reliability will continue to be the case. Update on Mar 21, 2018: My car has over 12,000 miles now and has been through a Wisconsin winter. I put dedicated Nokian snow tires on it, and it worked great. Of course, the mileage drops noticeably during winter, especially on shorter trips. The worst tank was 45 mpg, and the overall average to date is 55 mpg. The car has no reliability issues, starts instantly in cold weather, and the heater kicks out heat quickly. There is plenty of room for trips. I have no idea why this car isn't a best seller; people don't know what they're missing. Update Sep 22, 2018: My car has over 23,000 miles now, and I have done several interstate trips. The average mileage for the whole year is over 58 mpg. There have been no repairs required, except for a leaking tire due to a wood screw in it.My only complaint is that the warning light for low tire pressure on the dashboard is quite small and located off to the side among other indicator lights, making it easy to miss. I only noticed the low tire when I saw it on the car. However, I must say that this is an amazing vehicle that deserves to be a bestseller. As of September 24, 2019, the car has over 37,000 miles and has had zero problems in the past year. It averaged 58 mpg for the second year, even during the bitterly cold winter. I changed the air cleaner at 30K miles, which is a job that can be done in 30 seconds without any tools. In the summer, I average around 70 mpg on local roads, and in the winter, it's mostly in the 50s. I'm still impressed by the comfortable ride, HVAC system, and spaciousness. As of March 24, 2020, the odometer is now over 45K miles, and I have had only one failure. The automatic headlight high beam dimming stopped working, allegedly due to a film that collects on the windshield from interior plastic out-gassing. The car continues to perform as it always has. As of September 24, 2020, the car now has 49,258 miles and is just over three years old. There have been no failures since the last comments, and the mileage for the third year is 57 mpg, down one. I attribute this to relatively more winter driving compared to summer driving due to Covid. I haven't driven nearly as much since March. As of March 24, 2021, all is well with my Prius, and there are no issues to report. The odometer has passed 53,000 miles, and the gas mileage is unchanged. With rising gas prices, more people will probably wish they owned this car. I'm happy! As of September 24, 2021, I'm now at almost 60K miles, and I've only done one repair since last March. I replaced the front brake disks, which had become very rusty and noisy.I hope you're doing well! From what I understand, the reason for the light rust and road salt build-up is due to the regenerative braking system. However, the back brakes seem to be working just fine. It's great to hear that the repair was successful and didn't cost too much. Your gas mileage is still impressive at over 58 mpg! As of Mar 23, '22, you've driven almost 66,000 miles with no new issues and consistent fuel economy. That's amazing! At 71,400 miles on Sept 24, '22, there were still no issues and your gas mileage remained steady. It's a shame that some people have been convinced that this car is ugly and that SUVs are the way to go. On Mar 26, '23 at 77060 miles, there were still no issues, but you mentioned that the Bridgestone Ecopia tires were a bit noisy. Finally, on Mar 27, '24 at 94,000 miles, you had one issue with the rear brake dragging, but you were able to fix it yourself at no cost. It's great to hear that the original rotors and pads are still in good shape. It sounds like you plan to keep this car indefinitely, and I don't blame you! It's roomy, comfortable, reliable, and gets great gas mileage. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

The car's handling is a major improvement over my previous 2005 Prius. The exterior styling is bold and original, which is a refreshing change from the stale styling of previous model years. The interior passenger space provides a large amount of room for a small car, making it more comfortable than many larger sized vehicles. For me, the seats are comfortable and provide good support. The car is very quiet inside, which is a major improvement over my older model. The transition from battery mode to gas engine mode and vice versa is seamless and silent. The audio system produces excellent sound and is easily balanced between front and rear. However, visibility could be better. The front windshield posts still result in blind spots in the front corners' visibility fields, but a bit less so than in my older model. The headrests on the rear seats obscure visibility out of the back and rear corners, but I am thankful for the rearview camera. The basic instrument readouts are conveniently located and easy to read. There are multiple views for monitoring fuel economy and other performance parameters, which are available by scrolling through a large number of screen views using buttons and arrows on the steering wheel. These are interesting but confusing, and they create a major distraction if one attempts to change views while driving. It is best to find the view you like before starting to drive. The voice recognition technology is very poor, particularly if one is used to Siri or Google's voice recognition. Getting it to provide navigation directions is an exercise in frustration, and I find myself defaulting to the map apps on my mobile phone. Toyota's Ensue applications system is a puzzle at best. One wonders why Toyota did not opt to use Apple Car or another system from a technology provider who knows how to build these systems so that they are convenient, intuitive and helpful. The Navigation app in the car could use some improvement in its voice recognition system, but I'm sure there are ways to work around it. The manual that comes with the vehicle is quite thick, but I'm confident that with some time and patience, I'll be able to figure it out. On the bright side, the car has some great safety features like lane departure warning, collision and pedestrian avoidance systems. Although I haven't had the chance to test them out yet, I'm sure they'll work well when needed. Based on my previous experience with Toyota models, including the Prius, I'm expecting this car to be very reliable.

This surprisingly roomy vehicle has great fuel economy, is comfortable, and boasts very high feature content at any price point. While there are some negatives that might not be immediately apparent, such as the lack of memory seats for multiple drivers, inadequate audio adjustment to ambient noise, and a somewhat noisy interior, the car has proven to be incredibly reliable over the years. The Touring trim does not come with a spare tire or an automatically closing hatch, and taller drivers may find the thigh and lumbar support to be mediocre. However, after 2 years, the car has required nothing aside from scheduled maintenance, and after 4.5 years, only one dead 12v starter battery, which is not usual for its age. It would be nice to have some warning or battery voltage gauge on the dash or in menus. Overall, this vehicle is a great choice for those looking for a spacious and reliable car with impressive features.

In May 2018, I rented a 2017 Toyota Prius Three with Technology Package, including Heads Up Display (HUD), moon roof, and satellite radio, for a week of long distance and local travel from a local dealership. I wanted to purchase a Prius, so I thought this would be a good way to test it out. On the last day of the rental, a rock hit the windshield and created a small hole, less than the size of a dime. When I returned the car to the dealership, they informed me that the windshield needed to be replaced. The dealership estimated that it would cost $850.00 from their vendor and $1,400.00 from the Toyota parts department to replace the windshield. After researching the issue, I discovered that there is a class action lawsuit against Toyota due to faulty windshields on 2016/2017 Toyota Prius's. I am not sure if this issue was corrected for 2018 models. If a vehicle has the HUD, you cannot replace it with a regular windshield. It must be a certain type of windshield that has a film on the interior side of the windshield for the HUD to display. I highly recommend that you research this vehicle and windshield issue before purchasing. Online forums have stated that Toyota dealerships will not replace faulty windshields even if the vehicle is under warranty. Although the gas mileage was great at 65 MPG plus, I am not sure about the reliability of the windshields. Some insurance companies will replace the windshield for no to low cost, but after spending $20K plus on a vehicle, is this something you really want to deal with?

For the past 18 months, I have been using a 2018 Prius (version One) for my work, driving short urban pick-up & delivery journeys with 25-30 stops per day. I have found the reliability to be 100% over 34,000 miles, which is exactly what I expect from a Japanese-built Toyota. During the cooler months, I can get almost 50mpg on my daily route, but this drops a lot with a/c use in summer, to under 40mpg, which is a bit disappointing, given the EPA urban cycle rating is 50mpg. The drivetrain is impeccably smooth and responsive in its transitions between electric drive and the gasoline engine, although that engine is surprisingly coarse and thrashy when extended. The hatchback and rear seat areas are spacious and practical, with a useful power socket for passengers in the back. Despite a lot of hard plastics throughout the cabin, it's all nicely assembled and free of rattles. However, the all-black trim and carpet show every tiny little speck of dust, dirt, hair and fluff, which can be a bit of a nightmare to keep clean. A mid-beige color would have been much more practical. My main concern is that this car DOES NOT have a spare wheel. I have been very fortunate to have no punctures thus far, but I am worried about what will happen when that sidewall puncture comes along. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get anybody at the local dealership to explain this to me. The instruments and switchgear are not the best, considering Toyota has had almost 20 years, through various model cycles and updates, to make them more user-friendly and attractive. Who on earth wants a Casio watch-style speedometer or an LED fuel gauge? No thanks. And the HVAC controls are not the simple three-knob setup found in the Yaris and Corolla, but a combination of tiny push-buttons and three very awkward silver plastic rocker switches, which require taking your eyes off the road to make any adjustments. Both the Corolla and Camry Hybrids get this stuff right, so why can't we have conventional switchgear and analog gauges in the Prius? The standard, old-school cruise control is actually better than the radar-controlled adaptive version, which wastes fuel by speeding up and slowing down constantly, which can be infuriating. However, overall, it has been a superbly engineered, very smooth, quiet and comfortable car to drive, and ultra-reliable. If Toyota had the will, those few annoyances could very easily be fixed.
