Described as a 'light-duty' version of the Land Cruiser by Toyota, it features a different design compared to the full-size model and, up until 2023, it remains the only comfort-oriented Land Cruiser available with a short-wheelbase 3-door version.
As of 2023, the full-size Land Cruiser was available in many markets. Exceptions include the United States (since 2021), Canada (since 1996), Malaysia (which receives the Lexus LX instead), Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Brazil, and most of Europe. In Europe, the only countries where the full-size Land Cruiser is officially sold are Gibraltar, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The Land Cruiser is hugely popular in the Middle East, Russia, and Australia, and also in Africa where it is used by farmers, the construction industry, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, national armies (often the pickup version), and irregular armed groups who turn them into "technicals" by mounting machine guns in the rear. In August 2019, cumulative global sales of the Land Cruiser family surpassed 10 million units.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2013 Toyota Land cruiser.

- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2008-2019 Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 570 vehicles. Over time, the seat belt tension sensor wire harness may break and deactivate the front passenger air bag, knee air bag, and passenger seat-mounted side airbag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, deactivated air bags can increase the risk of injury .
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will modify the front passenger seat belt assembly or replace it with an improved one, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 11, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are Lexus Interim J2L and Remedy JLL, Toyota Interim J15 and Remedy J05.

These vehicles may be equipped with an incorrect driver or front passenger air bag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
- Consequence: An incorrect driver or front passenger air bag may not deploy as intended in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bag assemblies, free of charge. The recall began September 29, 2017. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is H0S. Lexus' number for this recall is HLD.

The 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser is exactly what we were looking for! It's a classy and understated vehicle that can go anywhere, with all the creature comforts you'd expect from a $65K SUV. We considered the Land Rover LR3, Lexus GX470, BMW X5, and several other vehicles, but nothing matched our needs better than the Land Cruiser. It has Toyota's renowned reliability, a decent 3rd row seat, lots of technology, and creature comforts. Plus, it's trusted around the world to get people through any kind of terrain and weather. If you're in the market for a large SUV that doesn't feel gigantic like the Sequoia or Lincoln Navigator, and you're planning on some offroading or challenging environments, then the LC is definitely worth considering. You won't be disappointed!

This is my second Land Cruiser and I am impressed thus far. My last one was a 2006 (last generation) and I was not happy with it, trading it in after less than a year. However, the 2011 model has improved in MANY areas. Handling, comfort, conveniences, and performance are all significantly upgraded in this generation of the LC.

I'm so excited to share my experience with the 2010 Land Cruiser! This is actually my second one, after trading in my 2008 Land Cruiser. One thing I love about this model is that it uses a Denco gas pedal, which is different from other Toyotas that had issues with their CTS gas pedals. The handling of this vehicle off the road is truly exceptional. If you have the chance, I highly recommend taking it for a test drive off the road to get the full experience. Thank you for considering the 2010 Land Cruiser!

This SUV is a fantastic combination of truck and luxury. It's not too common on the road, which makes it stand out. The Land Cruiser is incredibly comfortable and enjoyable to drive, with all the amenities you need for long or off-road trips. Despite its weight, it handles exceptionally well, with tight and responsive steering. I had a great experience purchasing my Land Cruiser at Huntington Toyota in Huntington Long Island - they were wonderful to deal with.

The Land Cruiser is a solid performer both on and off the road, with plenty of power and reliable braking. It would be great to have front console cup holder lighting for night time driving, as well as lit overhead spotlight buttons. I've been getting a combined 17.2 mpg in the city and on the highway using premium fuel. While the exterior sheet metal seems a little thin, the vehicle is still sturdy. I did experience a clunking noise from the rear when starting from a dead stop or coming to a stop, but after visiting my Toyota dealer, I found out that a (TSB) Technical Service Bulletin had been issued for this problem. The drive shaft was replaced under drivetrain warranty at no cost, and since then, I have had no further issues. Overall, I am very satisfied with the new Land Cruiser!

The current model of this vehicle does not meet our expectations in terms of personality, character, instrumentation design, and exterior styling. Additionally, its similarity to the Highlander model and its price point do not justify its purchase. We recommend waiting for the next redesign.
