1996 Toyota Land cruiser problems

The Toyota Land Cruiser (Japanese: トヨタ・ランドクルーザー, Hepburn: Toyota Rando-Kurūzā) (also sometimes spelled as LandCruiser) is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. It is Toyota's longest running series of models. As of 2019, the sales of the Land Cruiser totalled more than 10 million units worldwide.
Production of the first generation of the Land Cruiser began in 1951. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon and cab chassis body styles. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity have led to huge popularity, especially in Australia, where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback – considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain. In Japan, the Land Cruiser was once exclusive to Toyota Japanese dealerships called Toyota Store.
Since 1990, the smaller variation of the Land Cruiser has been marketed as the Land Cruiser Prado. Described as a 'light-duty' version of the Land Cruiser by Toyota, it features a different design compared to the full-size model and, up until 2023, it remains the only comfort-oriented Land Cruiser available with a short-wheelbase 3-door version.
As of 2023, the full-size Land Cruiser was available in many markets. Exceptions include the United States (since 2021), Canada (since 1996), Malaysia (which receives the Lexus LX instead), Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Brazil, and most of Europe. In Europe, the only countries where the full-size Land Cruiser is officially sold are Gibraltar, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The Land Cruiser is hugely popular in the Middle East, Russia, and Australia, and also in Africa where it is used by farmers, the construction industry, non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, national armies (often the pickup version), and irregular armed groups who turn them into "technicals" by mounting machine guns in the rear. In August 2019, cumulative global sales of the Land Cruiser family surpassed 10 million units.

Just bought this 1995 with 98150 on the clock. It's amazing how tight and rattle-free it is! As an ex-1999 Chevy Tahoe owner, I can say that while the Tahoe had more interior room and power, it lacked the manners, handling, and off-road capability that this older Toyota has. I've heard that this is the last year of the really heavy-duty suspension, but so far, I would buy this vehicle again and again!

Congratulations on your purchase of the '95 LC! It sounds like a solid and reliable vehicle with great safety features to protect your family. The third row jump seats are a great addition, giving you the flexibility to take them out or fold them up. The interior seems well-equipped with all the necessary accessories without any unnecessary ones. While the gas mileage may not be the best, it's understandable given that it's a full-time 4WD vehicle. Overall, it seems like a great choice! Enjoy your new ride!

I bought my LC a month ago with 155k miles on it. I've since put 5k on it, both highway and city. It still runs flawlessly. I've owned BMW Ms and many other sports cars, but none make me smile like the LC. I'm not sure what people gripe about in regards to gas MPG. Fuel economy isn't the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of an LC.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some details about our SUV with you. We bought it in Abbotsford, BC Canada for $11,000 and have put $7,000 into the drives. It has 248,000 miles on it and we even drove it all the way to Costa Rica - a total of 6,000 miles! However, we've had some trouble with the brakes and have had to replace them three times this year while driving in the mountains here. The gas mileage is only 8 MPG with a straight 6 engine, and gas here in Costa Rica is quite expensive at $3.43 per USG. Diesel engines are definitely a better choice here. In North America, gas is king (insane, right?). Currently, our SUV has 272,600 miles on it. We have a steep hill and stream to climb to get out of our property, but we've towed many 4 wheel drive vehicles up this hill. We've had two SUVs, both 4Runners, and they have been fantastic vehicles. Thanks for listening!

After 9K miles in four months, I am still in awe of this vehicle. I picked this over brand new Envoy/TrailBlazer and Yukon/Tahoe and I am very happy with my choice. The extremely capable full time 4 wheel drive did not skip a beat during some fairly adverse winter driving conditions. I am already thinking in terms of the

I am confident in stating that the maintenance costs of this vehicle are higher than expected. Despite purchasing the vehicle used at 78k miles, the catalytic converters had to be replaced at 86k miles, along with the front knuckle seals which cost a staggering $1200. Although the dealer covered the converters under warranty, the VSV valve is now faulty and will cost over $400 to repair.

I bought the Land Cruiser because I heard of its great reliability. It has been a good car, able to haul kids up skiing and having no trouble with snow. However, I have had some issues with maintenance. It goes through brake pads and rotors quite quickly, and I have had to replace the rotors twice in just 80,000 miles. Additionally, I had the head gasket blow out in Vail, which was extremely expensive. I have spent far more on maintenance for this car than any other I've owned, including my Fords. Despite these issues, I still leave it in the garage except to haul kids skiing. Overall, I have mixed feelings about my LC, but it has served its purpose well.
