The Cadillac ATS (ATS as an acronym for Alpha Touring Sedan) is a compact executive car (D-segment) manufactured by General Motors and marketed by Cadillac from 2012 to 2019, available in both four-door sedan and two-door coupé body styles. In the US, it is the brand's first locally-built entry-level premium car since the Cimarron, and in Europe, it is the successor of the Swedish-built Cadillac BLS. The ATS is based on General Motors' Alpha platform and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. Optional engines include a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline engine that produces 272 hp (203 kW) and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine that produces 321 hp (239 kW). The 2.0-liter engine replaced the 2.5-liter engine as the base engine for the 2017 model year. All versions were equipped with a 6-speed GM 6L45 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission as standard until the 2015 model year. An 8-speed automatic transmission was introduced for the 2016 model year. The 2.0-liter turbocharged, rear-wheel drive version can be mated to an optional 6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual transmission.
Prior to the debut of the ATS, Cadillac's smallest vehicle was the E-segment CTS. The CTS was comparable in price to D-segment competitors like the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, the Lexus IS and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, however was comparable in size and weight to the more expensive BMW 5 Series. Although Cadillac believed that customers would favor a Mercedes-Benz E-Class-sized sedan at the price of a 3 Series, this assumption was proven to be incorrect. Cadillac's research found that target customers who already owned vehicles like the 3 Series or A4 did not want a larger vehicle.
Cadillac debuted the ATS to the press in the United States in January 2012, placed the ATS into production in July 2012 and began selling the ATS in the United States in August 2012 as a 2013 model. GM began selling the ATS in China in November 2013. Cadillac sold the ATS in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and South Korea. The ATS was replaced by the Cadillac CT4 in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

- Summary: The contact owned a 2016 Cadillac ATS. The contact stated while driving 40-50 MPH and entering the expressway, she engaged the turn signal and verified that the road was cleared. The contact stated that while she was making the turn, an 18-wheeler truck suddenly hit the vehicle, causing the vehicle to crash into another vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was hit three times and spun onto the median, where the vehicle continued to spin until it hit the fence. The contact stated that her sister was occupying the front passenger's seat at the time of the accident. The air bags failed to deploy. Both the contact and her sister were transported to the hospital by emergency units. The contact stated that she sustained injuries on the left side of her body. The contact sustained severe pain on the left shoulder, left arm, left wrist, lower back, on and the neck down to under the shoulder blade. - Summary: Reporting a case for GM recall N182161890. I bought my vehicle in 2022. I was informed that my car had all the recalls completed on that vehicle. My vehicle had exactly what this recall was for happen to it on 10/20/23. After contacting Cadillac, they informed me that this recall was never completed on my vehicle. Cadillac then told me that this recall was expired so it can no longer be completed. They said that the recall expired on 11/30/2020. I was under the impression that recalls do not expire, especially ones that can cause lose of power steering and could lead to collision or injury. Cadillac told me it expired because it was a "Customer Satisfaction Program" recall and not a "Product Safety" recall. I'm confused on how the lose of steering is not a product safety issue. Cadillac is unwilling to fix the recall at this time, even though they have confirmed it had never been completed.

I contacted Cadillac and they started Case #9-9552142107. I had the car inspected at my dealership on 3-11-23. They filled out the report on this case number to support the findings of a current recall already in place. Recall date 2015-09-03 Recall no.15V558000 General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS sedan vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to September 2, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger system may generate excessive heat due to excessive cycling or continuous operation. When I contacted Cadillac they said I needed to contact NHTSA with the info to have my car put on the recall

IF DRIVEN ON RUN FLATS APPROX 15 MILES TO REPAIR FACILITY, TIRES CAN ALSO BE DAMAGED AND HAVE TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS MY SITUATION. DURING THE TIME OF THIS ACCIDENT, THE ROAD WAS IN GOOD SHAPE, VISIBILITY WAS GOOD, THE WEATHER WAS GOOD, IT WAS AROUND 60 DEGREES OUTSIDE, I HAD JUST GOT ON TO THE FREEWAY, AND WAS TRAVELLING AROUND 60 MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED (I.E. NO SPEEDING), AND I WAS DRIVING WITH MY LEFT ARM (IT IS A MANUAL, AND MY RIGHT HAND WAS NOT ON THE STEERING WHEEL AT THE TIME) AND DUE TO THE POSITIONING (MY LEFT ARM RESTING ON THE ARMREST), IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO HAVE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL ENOUGH TO HAVE SPUN OUT.

THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT COULD NOT FIND A FAILURE. THE CONTACT WENT TO THE SAME DEALER AFTER THE CRASH AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN FEATURE IN THE VEHICLE THAT FAILED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF PRIOR TO THE CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE SENIOR ADVISER STATED THAT THE PRODUCT DIVISION WOULD BE NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT CALLED BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO RED NOLAND CADILLAC (719-633-4633, LOCATED AT 990 MOTOR CITY DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO ONE AVAILABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO ALPINE BUICK GMC SOUTH (719-301-2573, LOCATED AT 1313 MOTOR CITY DR, COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80905) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE INSPECTED RIGHT AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXHAUST PIPE DETACHED AND CAUSED CARBON MONOXIDE TO BLOW INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO DEALER THAT WAS WILLING TO TAKE THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING AROUND LOOKING FOR DEALERS, THE CONTACT BECAME ILL AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE DOCTOR INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HER ILLNESS WOULD HAVE BEEN FATAL HAD SHE NOT RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED TO SEND A TOW TRUCK. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WAS NO NEED FOR A TOW TRUCK, RATHER SPEAK WITH EITHER OF THE DEALERS TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO LEWIS CHEVROLET CADILLAC OF GARDEN CITY (620-275-7171, LOCATED AT 1903 US-50 BUS, GARDEN CITY, KS 67846) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND STATED THAT SHE DID NOT FEEL SAFE RETRIEVING OR DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,700.

ON MY WAY HOME I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR WAS DOING THE SAME THING AND ABOUT A FEW MILES FROM MY HOUSE I STARTED TO SMELL ELECTRICAL BURNING. I WAS PULLING OVER WHEN SMOKE STARTED BILLOWING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THERE WHERE FLAMES SHOOTING FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT. I SLAMMED THE CAR IN PARK AND JUMPED OUT JUST IN TIME AS THE CAR WAS CONSUMED IN FLAMES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED 911 AND BEDFORD FIRE AND POLICE RESPONDED WITHIN MINUTES. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS. I BELIEVE THERE WAS AN ISSUE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR THE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT. I'M JUST HAPPY I DIDN'T HAVE ANYONE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT.

- Components: VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS sedan vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to September 2, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger system may generate excessive heat due to excessive cycling or continuous operation.
- Consequence: If the coil antenna generates excessive heat, there is an increased risk of a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the Electronic Climate Control module to remove the automatic rear defogger "on" function, free of charge. The recall began on October 16, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15299.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 25, 2012, to June 25, 2015. The affected vehicles may experience the roof panel closing automatically when the non-recessed switches are pressed and the roof panel is open. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems."
- Consequence: Because the switch is not recessed, the roof panel switch may inadvertently be pressed resulting in unintended auto-closure of the roof panel, increasing the risk of personal injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners and dealers will replace the roof console accessory switch trim plate, free of charge. The recall began on August 19, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15568. Note this recall supersedes 15V-106.

When I first got the car a few months ago, I was more excited about the electronics than the feel of the car. However, after a few weeks of driving, I noticed that the transmission shifting was quite erratic. You can actually feel the car going into gear and, in some instances, the engine downshifts, which I consider unsafe. Even with the 'stop engine' mode disabled, you can still feel the noticeable changes in shifting. Unfortunately, this has made for an unsatisfactory ride. It's worth noting that I've owned or leased over 40 GM cars.

I really appreciate the handling of this car! As an owner of a Porsche 911, I can say that this is the only sedan that can compare. The exterior look is fantastic, it's clean, timeless, and interesting. However, I must admit that I'm not a fan of some aspects of this car. The CUE is unintuitive and talks too much when in voice prompt mode. My wife's Audi has a much better interface. While the 2.0ilter engine has reasonable power, you have to overcome both turbo lag and a slow transmission (mine has the 6 speed auto) in order to get good performance. Even then, it sounds pretty bad - a bit like an overworked and muffled lawnmower. If you ignore the sound and run the car in manual mode then it's fine, but who wants to do that? These two things are irksome enough that I decided to sell the car. Unfortunately, the resale value is not great, which is partially due to the fact that the car was overpriced in the first place. I knew that going in, but I wanted to buy American. If you still want to buy the car, I would recommend getting the V6, making sure it has the new 8 speed auto, and negotiating a hefty discount on this overpriced car. Overall, I hope this review helps you make an informed decision, and I wish you the best of luck in your car search!

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that this car doesn't come with a CD player and it can be a bit bumpy on rough roads. You might also notice some road noise. The tires can be a bit pricey to replace, but it's definitely worth it for the quick acceleration you get from the turbo engine. Just keep in mind that premium gas is required. The 2015 ATS 2.0T Luxury model has not met my expectations, despite owning two previous Cadillacs. The door pillar can make it difficult for average to large individuals to get in and out of the driver's seat. Additionally, the passenger room is limited and uncomfortable for four adults. The maximum load capacity for passengers and cargo is just over 800 lbs. While the moonroof can be noisy when open, the vehicle itself is not excessively loud. Although the 2.0 claims to have good mileage, I have only been able to achieve just under 20 mpg. While the Luxury model may not meet the standards of foreign cars, it is still a quality vehicle. While it may not have any unique features, it is still a reliable option for those in the market for a small sedan.

Before committing to buy or lease, we recommend test driving this ATS on the highway or interstate instead of city streets. While it may not feel like you are driving a Cadillac due to the noise and rough ride, the fold down back seats are a great feature. However, the back seat may be difficult to enter and too small, and the trunk is also on the smaller side. Additionally, the Cue system for driving directions has frequent errors and may not understand voice commands. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope this information helps in your decision-making process. As longtime Cadillac drivers, we have had mixed experiences with this particular model.
