Common 2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid problems
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2022 has been a popular choice for those looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, but like any car, it has its share of common problems reported by owners.
- Engine fails to start after running out of fuel: If the car runs out of fuel, it may not start again due to a fail-safe feature in all Toyota hybrids. The battery must be disconnected and reconnected to reset the system, and the code must be cleared before the engine can start.
- Electric-only mode unavailable: The Corolla Hybrid sometimes cannot run on pure electricity when "EV Mode" is engaged. An error message may appear stating, "EV Mode Unavailable Hybrid Battery Low," which is normal due to the small 1.3 kWh battery.
- Dead batteries: Owners have reported issues with the batteries dying in their hybrid sedans. This is because the car always has some electronics running in the background, such as theft deterrents and keyless entry systems, which constantly draw power from the battery. If the car isn't driven daily, especially in cold weather, owners may have trouble starting the car.
- Noisy brakes: Hybrid cars are often quieter than their internal combustion engine counterparts, but this can reveal other areas of the vehicle that went unnoticed. Many Corolla Hybrid owners have reported a "whirring/buzzing" noise when braking at low speed. This is part of the hybrid's pressurized regenerative braking system and is completely normal.
- Woodland critter-attracting electrical wiring: The wiring insulation in the Corolla Hybrid is a soy-based material, which can attract mice, rats, and squirrels. This is a minor issue but can lead to chewed wires and potential electrical problems.
These problems, while not significant, are part of the limitations of hybrid cars in general. Hybrids are more mechanically complicated than their internal combustion competitors, but reliability has improved immensely. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid has been rated best-in-class by many, and its reliability is similar to that of the non-hybrid Corolla.
What are the cons of the 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid?

- Summary: I bought a new Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2022. The interior driver door pull handle is so bulging, hard, and sharp, dangerous, that it hurts my left leg resting against it. It has already caused bruises and horrible leg pain. I've owned 2 previous Corollas from 2005 to present, but nothing like this. Toyota needs to go back to previous models or copy Honda Civic. They should relocate the door pull handle and make it more safe. Cars should get better, not worse. See pictures attached. Other friends who own this car have similar issue ! I would Corolla Product Engineers tell me a good solution ,or how to relocate handle, or give compensation for local upholstery change.

It's a shame that these cars are hard to come by. However, I was able to get an ordered Corolla that the customer was unable to buy. I absolutely love the 53 miles to the gallon and all the extras that come with it, such as the new cruise control and lane advisor. The Corolla heavy duty car mats complete the package. I'm so glad to be back in a Corolla after nine years. The changes were necessary and delivered. The only downside I found was that, being five foot five inches, I have to move my seat up more than taller people, which makes it hard to grab the seat belt. It's not a deal breaker, but it can be a bit of a pain.

Great MPG!
-
This is the best Toyota I've ever owned! The Corolla hybrid gets an amazing 58 miles per gallon combined and rides so smoothly. The safety technology, like adaptive cruise control, works flawlessly - you don't even need to keep your hands on the steering wheel! It can even drive and steer itself for about 10 seconds.
-
The car is incredibly quiet, and the gas mileage is unbelievable. Additionally, the 8-inch screen with the camera is awesome!

Save gas money!

I purchased my 2021 Toyota Corolla hybrid on January 21, 2021, and have driven 3k miles so far. The car runs perfectly and I absolutely love it. However, I have noticed some paint chipping on various parts of the car, including the back doors. As a result, I would rate it 3 stars. I bought the car from Dick Hannah in Kelso, Washington, and would recommend getting the extra layer of protection if you decide to purchase this car. It seems like I may need to get a new paint job for my car.

I'm so sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your 2021 Corolla hybrid. It's frustrating when you make an informed purchase and encounter problems like dark shadows in the headlights and a vibrating passenger seat. These issues can be safety concerns, especially when they affect your visibility and distract you from the road. Have you tried contacting the dealership again to see if they can offer any solutions? I hope you're able to find a resolution soon so you can fully enjoy your car.

I had the opportunity to test drive this car before ordering online, and I have to say, it didn't meet my expectations. In my opinion, the price doesn't match the quality of the car. It may be a good option for a teenager or someone who's just starting out, but it didn't meet my needs. However, during our search for a new car, we came across the Hyundai Sonata, which is in the same price range as the Corolla. We were blown away by the quality, space, and overall driving experience of the Sonata. We ended up purchasing it and absolutely love it! I highly recommend test driving both cars for yourself to see the difference in quality. Best regards,

Our 2021 Corolla is capable of achieving up to 50/51 mpg, however, it is important to note that actual mileage may vary depending on various factors such as driving conditions and habits. While we understand your disappointment with the current average of 41 mpg during your long trip, we assure you that our vehicle is designed to deliver exceptional fuel efficiency. We recommend consulting the owner's manual for tips on how to optimize fuel economy. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
