2015 Mitsubishi Mirage problems

The Mitsubishi Mirage is a range of cars produced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi from 1978 until 2003 and again since 2012. The hatchback models produced between 1978 and 2003 were classified as subcompact cars, while the sedan and station wagon models, marketed prominently as the Mitsubishi Lancer, were the compact offerings. The liftback introduced in 1988 complemented the sedan as an additional compact offering, and the coupé of 1991 fitted in with the subcompact range. The current Mirage model is a subcompact hatchback and sedan and it replaces the Mitsubishi Colt sold between 2002 and 2012.
Nameplate history
The Mirage has a complicated marketing history, with a varied and much convoluted naming convention that differed substantially depending on the market. Mitsubishi used the Mirage name for all five generations in Japan, with all but the first series badged as such in the United States. However, other markets often utilized the name Mitsubishi Colt and sedan variants of the Mirage have been widely sold as the Mitsubishi Lancer—including in Japan where the two retailed alongside one another. In Japan, the Mirage was sold at a specific retail chain called Car Plaza.
In the United States and Canada, the first four generations were sold through a venture with Chrysler as the Dodge Colt and the similar Plymouth-badged Champ and Colt. Later, the venture brought the Eagle Vista and Summit branded models which sold alongside the aforementioned. Confusingly, Chrysler has also offered an unrelated Dodge Lancer at various stages between the 1950s and 1980s. However, when DaimlerChrysler briefly controlled Mitsubishi through the DaimlerChrysler-Mitsubishi alliance from 2000 through to 2004, the license to the "Lancer" name was relinquished to Mitsubishi for usage in North America. Thus, after the fifth and final generation Mirage, replacement models in North America have adopted the new name.
Mitsubishi introduced replacements for the fifth series of Mirage, starting in 2000 with a new generation of Lancer—now larger, having moved up to the compact segment. Then in 2002, a subcompact five-door hatchback badged Colt globally became available. By 2003, the Mirage and its derivatives had been completely phased out of mainstream Japanese production. For the 2002-era Colt's replacement in 2012, Mitsubishi decided to resurrect the Mirage name internationally for a new sixth generation model.
With the rising popularity of boxy subcompact SUVs in Japan, the Mirage nameplate was used on a domestic market-only model called the Mirage Dingo, from 1999. The Dingo was facelifted in 2001 and canceled in 2003. However, New Zealand sold a very different Mirage from 2002—a rebadged Dutch-manufactured Mitsubishi Space Star labeled Mirage Space Star. This vehicle was not very popular and was discontinued in 2003.

Common 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage problems
The 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage has been criticized for several common problems that have affected its ownership experience. Here are the most pressing issues based on complaints from owners:
- Transmission hesitation: Some owners of the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage have reported transmission failure, with issues ranging from shifting hesitation to loss of acceleration.
- Faulty Bluetooth connection: Another common complaint is the inability of the infotainment system to remain connected to a user's smartphone. Owners say they can only reconnect by uninstalling the phone and reprogramming it from the beginning. This issue may be related to the brakes, as some owners have reported that their cars seem to drift and not drive straight. Tire problems seem to not have a remedy other than replacing them.
- Airbag recalls: The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) twice recalled the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage’s airbags. One recall was for a corroding airbag wiring connector, and the other was for a faulty restraint system control unit. Fortunately, the Mitsubishi remedied recalled examples free of charge.
Despite these issues, the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage has a relatively low average annual repair cost of $442, and its reliability is rated 4.5 out of 5.0, which is good for 7th out of 21 cars in the segment. However, there are many other model year Mitsubishi Mirages to choose from that have far fewer issues. Therefore, it is essential to weigh the pros and cons before purchasing the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage.
Is Mitsubishi Mirage a good car 2015?
There's a lot of engine noise no matter how fast you're going, and most of the interior materials are low in quality even for this fairly thrifty segment. For these reasons, we've given the Mirage an Edmunds "D" rating and strongly encourage shoppers to consider other choices in this price range.
What is the weakness of the Mitsubishi Mirage?
However, the weak, vibrating, and incredibly noisy three-cylinder engine provides sluggish acceleration, handling is clumsy, and the cabin is depressingly low-rent. Further lowering its standing is its poor score in the IIHS small-overlap crash test. The Mirage began as a small car with a jumpy, uncomfortable ride.
How many miles does a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage last?
How long do Mitsubishi Mirages last? Typically, a Mirage will survive 130,000-150,000 miles. Unfortunately, this means they aren't worth investing in if you find a used one with six digits on the odometer. Still, the Mirage might be the right choice for some people with proper care.
Is there a recall on 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage?
Electrical system: Wiring
(MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Mitsubishi Mirage vehicles manufactured July 27, 2013, to September 2, 2015.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-07
- VIN: ML32A3HJ4FH
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Vent Blower failure: Past 4 months on 4 occasions vent blower intermittently would not come on but would come back on after 15 to 30 minutes, approximately. The last 3 days of vehicle operation the vent blower motor does not come on at all with the first of 3 days the blower could be heard running at an extremely low speed. The vents at windshield and blower filter have remained free of obstruction and well maintained. The vent blower failure impacts safety to myself and others due to the inability to mitigating fogging on the windows which severely impacts visibility. The problem has not, as of yet, been addressed to my dealership/independent service center: Owner has extensive electronic & electrical background and is an expert troubleshooter. The harnesses at fuse panel and blower motor have been verified and appear proper and the fuse was not blown. I do not have a schematic of this electrical system and voltage at blower harness was not checked. (My thoughts on problem areas that may be impacting this safety concern whether it is an isolated case or widespread problem: Blower Motor - failed windings, thermal overload, bearings, and brushes/pitting as applicable. Vent Controller component failure. Wiring and harness issue.) I intend to bring this safety concern issue to manufacturer or dealership or independent service center as it is affordable. Symptoms: See first paragraph. The blower failure was 4 times at car start-up and once while driving.

2015 Mitsubishi Mirage recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage.
- Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Mirage vehicles. The internal acceleration sensor in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) can misinterpret vibrations such as those from poor road conditions or a flat tire to be a sensor error thereby disabling the air bags from deploying in a crash.
- Consequence: Air bags that do not deploy as designed in a crash increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the SRS-ECU software, free of charge. The recall began on November 10, 2017. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-17-006.
- Manufacturer: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Mitsubishi Mirage vehicles manufactured July 27, 2013, to September 2, 2015. If the driver enters an affected vehicle with their feet covered water and salt, it may soak through the carpet and cause corrosion to a wiring connector located in a junction box behind a kick panel to the left of the driver's footrest.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, corrosion of the connector could delay deployment of the frontal air bags, increasing the risk of injury to the driver and the front seat passenger.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected connectors, replacing any found to be corroded. A waterproof sheet will be installed over the connectors to prevent future corrosion. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in February 2016. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-16-001.

I have a 1998 Mirage that I still own and it's still running great with over 150,000 miles on it. That's one of the reasons why I was interested in the 2015 Mirage. I absolutely love how compact it is and how easy it is to park and turn around. The MPG is amazing and has a huge impact on me. I got 42.5 mpg just from city driving so far and I can't wait to take it on a longer trip to see how it does. The temperature setting is fantastic, you can adjust it as low as 61 and as high as 89. I got the ES model with Bluetooth, cruise control, and a driver's seat that adjusts in height. I love that feature because it's not as low to the ground that way, making it easier to get in and out of. I also love the fact that I don't have to use the remote if I don't want to, I can simply push the button on my car and get in, as long as I have the fast key remote on me. I absolutely LOVE my new car!!!! I'm so glad I went with my gut feeling and got what I know and trust. Plus, you cannot beat the warranty. Now for the cons: There's no center console, but I can probably fix that problem and buy something to work as others have. Especially for long trips, it would be nice to have that. It has all sorts of warning lights that come on when there is a problem. I like those, however, I already dislike the TPMS light for low tires. I'm having an issue with that coming on even though the dealer just filled my tires 2 days ago, so back to the dealer I go with that issue. That wouldn't sway me from buying this car, it's just an annoyance. The back seat isn't very big, it's okay for children but I don't think adults would be too comfortable on a long trip. It does take a bit to get used to the steering, my first day was horrible and I felt like I was all over the place. But now, I've got that figured out and I'm happy with it.I hope this message finds you well. I just wanted to let you know that I would definitely buy this product again and recommend it to anyone who is looking for something small, great on gas, and comes with a great warranty. Thank you for providing such a wonderful product!

I just wanted to update my original review because a lot has happened since January! I've driven to Cincinnati and Nashville from Indianapolis, so I have a little more knowledge about my Mirage. I read a lot of professional reviews, and one of the many things they criticized was the acceleration. However, I have had no problem merging into traffic, and moving with traffic (or passing it) was not a problem either. Long distance driving was fine, except I wish I had cruise control. My leg got pretty tired after 200+ miles in the same position. I drive 22 miles to work each day, and I have no problem moving in and out of rush hour traffic. After driving my mom's 2015 Chevy Cruze, I will say my car doesn't take off as quickly as hers, but I haven't had any issues. I also read a lot about handling, but it was an easy fix! I bought a $10 wheel cover, and I can't believe the difference in the handling. The steering wheel is a little on the skinny side, so sometimes it felt like the car was getting away from me. Turns out it's all about the grip. There was also something said about braking, which mentioned coming to a complete stop from 60 mph. Really! If you find yourself doing that more than once in a while, you need to retake Drivers Ed! My sturdy little racecar has taken a beating. I've been rear-ended, my windshield cracked by a rock flying off a truck, and I've run over a couple of pretty huge curbs. I have a few scratches, but no major damage. Gas mileage is awesome, parking is so easy, and my cargo space was adequate when traveling with my two grandsons and all their belongings last month. The interior has survived several spills (including nacho cheese on the carpet), and cleaned up very nicely. Overall, buying this car has turned out to be an unexpected blessing. Like I said back in July, ignore the haters! I'm still loving my Mirage! (Read my original review below) Three weeks ago, I walked into the Suzuki/Mazda/Mitsubishi dealership after having totaled my beloved 2004 Suzuki Vitara, needing a cheap car quickly! I don't care about features, technology, bells, and whistles. I just need a reliable piece of transportation for getting to and from work and comfortable enough for my twice-yearly 1,300-mile road trip to visit my grandbabies. The dealer told me he had a 2015 Mirage with 1,200 miles on it. My salesman took me for a test drive, but I was too busy chatting to pay attention to the actual

When my 14-year-old Hyundai Sonata hit 180,000 miles, I knew it was time to start looking for a small car with great gas mileage to avoid significant repair costs. I considered the Chevy Spark, Honda Fit, and Toyota Yaris, but finding one in my price range with low mileage was a challenge. I briefly looked at a Smart Fortwo, but the size was a concern. Eventually, I found a 2015 'Sapphire Blue' Mitsubishi Mirage with 14,000 miles on it. After a test drive and some negotiation, I purchased it for $8750. It's been 30 days since I've owned the Mirage, and here are my thoughts. While it's louder, slower, and less responsive than my old Sonata, it gets almost twice the miles per gallon. The key to owning the Mirage is to have realistic expectations. It's not a car that can do a 9-second quarter-mile, handle like a sports car, or provide the quiet comfort of a luxury vehicle. However, it has no trouble getting on highway entrance ramps and merging with traffic. Although there is some wind noise at higher speeds, it's not loud enough to affect a conversation or listening to the stereo. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase and would recommend the Mirage to anyone looking for a budget-friendly car with good gas mileage.I'm thrilled with my purchase of the Mirage! It consistently gets 45 mpg in real-world driving, which saves me almost 1/3 of my monthly car payment in gas compared to my previous Sonata. Although the CVT transmission takes a little getting used to, I've found that slow, steady increases in accelerator pressure work best. The Mirage is an amazing engineering feat, allowing for 45 mpg while still providing a comfortable driving experience.

Just wanted to let you know that the car is a 2014 model. I did a lot of research on this car and I am truly grateful for all the owners who posted their honest opinions, likes and dislikes. Their feedback was more informative than the jaded opinions of professional reviewers. I absolutely love this car! I belong to the generation that wished for a simpler, inexpensive car that got great gas mileage with manual roll down windows. If I could have fit this car into that one Corvair body year I liked it would have been perfect. I have owned over 10 cars in the last 45 years and have driven about 40,000 miles per year. I know what the pluses and minuses of each car are, so I don't think I can be accused of having low expectations. I don't know if Consumer Reports has some sort of issue with their own evaluations of vehicles, but I have reasonable expectations when buying a new car. It's almost as if they're being prissy about it as if they're being put-upon by having to explain to us lesser mortals what should be obvious to everyone. Well, it may be obvious to them, but not to me. If I want something that is a definitive sports car I'll get a Corvette; if I want something that defines luxury maybe one of those in the class of a Lexus, top-end Hyundai, etc. I wanted something this time as an economical alternative to the wife's very nice SUV as a practical matter. For 14 thousand, contrary to Consumer Reports, the car handles well-enough, has enough power if you drive it intelligently on the road, the CVT works well with the non-hybrid 3 cylinder without the extra weight, added costs and complexity of a hybrid, has proximity sensors and a decent radio with mapping and Bluetooth. The fit and finish on this car is better than all of my previous new cars, despite being made in Thailand. I took the time on the lot to find the one that looked the best to me in terms of fit and finish and took it for a test drive. Although it doesn't have a center console, I found that I didn't need it with the space savings. It also doesn't have Corinthian leather, but that saves me from attempting to patch it when the dog attempts to claw it to death. While it doesn't handle potholes and bumps well, it rides as well as my wife's SUV on a decent road. It leans on turns and I would have preferred to have a sway bar, but it's not dangerously so unless you try to drive it like a sports car. The car has 14 inch tires and I would have preferred 15 inches, but it actually drives pretty well in the snow. Although it doesn't like strong crosswinds and the CVT intrudes in the cockpit on heavy acceleration, I'll take that for 50 mpg with the air off. It even has a spare tire, unlike some other low-end models. The only downside is that it doesn't have hooks to hang laundry like my last car, but I ordered a hanger from Amazon that attaches to the back of the front passenger seat. All is good. As an update, the CVT has been properly matched with the engine and is very smooth. For a 3 cylinder, noise and vibration are better than most of the 4 cylinders from other cars in that class. The doors have stayed aligned unlike previous cars and there are absolutely no creaks or rattles. I have never had that with any other car, even on the really bad roads in NJ. I can't understand why Consumer Reports and other 'professional' reviewers are trashing this car...One of the few objective evaluations I have seen of this car came from MotorWeek, as well as individual assessments from actual owners found on the internet. I really appreciate the ground clearance the car has, considering it is a small car, which works well in snow, unlike an earlier Honda I had that acted like a snow plow. In regards to the third update requested by Edmunds, I cannot provide a negative review that agrees with the professionals. There were no squeaks or rattles from their genius testers who were using vehicles that were pounded to a fair thee well in their tests. When an economy car has been so railed against by a so-called consumer agency and it has worked so well for me at my age and perspective, I begin to wonder if it's not the cars but the people that evaluate them that should be called into question. As of the requested Edmunds update on 11/26/20, the car is still perfect.

If you're looking for a car that offers great reliability, fuel economy, and easy parking, then the Mirage is the perfect choice for you. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of other cars, it more than makes up for it with its impressive 5-year, 60,000-mile basic warranty. I've taken this car on long road trips and have been blown away by its fuel economy, which has reached up to 52 mpg at some points. Even during the harsh Erie, PA winter, I've had no issues thanks to my snow tires and the Mirage's reliable performance. In comparison, my previous Chevy Malibu was stuck all last year and had a cheap, plastic interior. The Mirage, on the other hand, is a brand new car that offers great value for its price. The Mitsubishi dealer in Erie is also fantastic, providing excellent service and even loaning me a car for an oil change. Overall, the Mirage may not be the fanciest car out there, but it gets the job done and does it well. I highly recommend it!

Nothing fancy. Just good economical transportation. Great in the city. Very easy to turn around and fit into any parking spot.

undefinedThe car's eco mode can cause some lurching when it shuts off, which can make braking difficult. Unfortunately, there is no option to turn off the eco mode. Additionally, the 165/65/r14 tire size is an uncommon size, making them more difficult and expensive to find. While switching to a 175/65/r14 tire may save some money, it can cause the car to shake quite a bit on the highway. The car's 3-cylinder engine can cause acceleration to lag when running the A/C, so it's best to avoid using it and opt for open windows instead. The hub caps are flimsy plastic and can easily get scratched up, so it's recommended to leave them off. Overall, this car is a reliable and affordable option for getting from point A to point B, especially considering the new engine was covered under warranty. However, it's not the best choice for extended road trips on highways due to inconsistent acceleration and braking. As a result, it may be worth considering a Yaris or Micra for future purchases.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the Mirage's CVT transmission. I've found that I get the best gas mileage (48 MPG!) when I stay at 55 mph or less. I've noticed that using cruise control at freeway speeds of 65+ mph or on mild to steep hills can cause the RPM's to go over 4500 and instantly kill your gas mileage. In fact, I've seen my gas mileage drop as low as 30 MPG at speeds of 65 mph. Personally, I wish I had bought the 5-speed instead. Overall, I think the Mirage is a great car and reminds me of everything the Geo Metro should have been. Thanks for listening!
