As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.

- Summary: I was pulling into a parking spot when my car suddenly accelerated to a very high speed. I traveled over a curb, on some pavement, through some bushes, knocked down a light pole and miraculously came to a stop. My foot was pumping the brakes to no avail. My entire car was damaged but miraculously no one was hurt. Car was towed to a mechanic who confirmed that the car accelerated with him as well. Front, back, underside, roof, tires and frames were all badly damaged.

This makes it very, very, hard to see anything out the rear window at night, also pretty hard when it's raining or cloudy out. I understand this has happened to quite a lot of these cars and is a VERY expensive repair cost. No rock found impacting mirror, no bird found at impact point, no dead animal found at impact point. If passenger window had not been up then mirror remains would have entered the car cabin. The mirror has been replaced and is not available for inspection. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center to my knowledge. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of a problem prior to the failure. The problem occurred on March 22nd, 2022 at 10:30 AM eastern time zone approximately.

I was able to get off the road safely although the brakes did not feel normal. Had the car towed to Capitol Toyota in San Jose the following morning for repair. They diagnosed the problem as a failure in the Master Cylinder Booster Unit and replaced it. Note: the attached invoice misstates the issue as "check engine light" which is incorrect.

- Summary: My Avalon is trying to kill me. I promise I have done nothing wrong! When going down the highway at 85mph I have had people cut in front of me. When pushing on the brakes to avoid collision, the brakes lock up and do not release for about 5 seconds. Naturally, this is quite unnerving for myself, passengers as cars that scatter around me when the Avalon takes control --- slamming on the brakes --- and wont hand control back until it has caused quite a mess. This has happened three times now and no one can tell me what is wrong. I am told to get a brake job at the Toyota dealership even though the pads still have plenty of life.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LIA TOYOTA OF ROCKLAND (618 NY-303, BLAUVELT, NY 10913) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND A TEST DRIVE WAS PERFORMED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD A THIRD-PARTY TEST DRIVE AND DIAGNOSIS THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

TURNS OUT THAT THE FUEL PUMP STOPPED WORKING WITH NO WARNING. MY LAST AVALON WENT ALMOST 300,000 MILES ON THE SAME FUEL PUMP. THE PUMP, IN MY OPINION, IS FAULTY BUT OUT OF WARRANTY. TOYOTA IS CHARGING OVER $1,000 TO FIX IT. I TRIED TO GET TOYOTA MANAGEMENT CONTACT INFORMATION (DISTRICT MGR.) FROM THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WOULD NOT SUPPLY IT IN ORDER FOR ME TO DRAW ATTENTION TO TOYOTA OF THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF A KEY COMPONENT OF THE CAR. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS, GOT THE SAME RESPONSE AND FELT LIKE THEY COULD CARE LESS THAT THERE MAY BE A DEFICIENCY IN THEIR COMPONENTS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN ONLINE OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS EARLY FAILURE OF THE FUEL PUMP. THEY DID SAY, THE PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY THE PCS MISREADING OBJECTS ON THE ROAD, WHICH IS WHAT YOUR RECALL NOTICE STATES. CAN YOU PLEASE INCLUDE MY VEHICLE IN THIS RECALL. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR THIS WARNING SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE, FALSELY NOTIFYING OF EMERGENCY WHEN THERE IS NONE. I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ON 5/3/2019 AS A TOYOTA CERTIFIED USED CAR. WITHIN DAYS OF PURCHASING I BEGAN HAVING THIS PCS WARNING LIGHT AND BEEPING GOING OFF AND THE BREAK LIGHT COMING ON. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2014 Toyota Avalon hybrid.

- Components: AIR BAGS: AIR BAG/RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2011-2019 Corolla, 2011-2013 Matrix, 2012-2018 Avalon, and 2013-2018 Avalon Hybrid vehicles. During certain crashes, the air bag electronic control unit (ECU) may malfunction, possibly disabling the deployment of the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash, air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners that do not deploy as intended may increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ECU and install a noise filter between the air bag control module and its wire harness, as necessary, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety risk beginning March 2, 2020. A second letter notifying owners of the remedy repair will be mailed between March 16, 2020 and June 27, 2020. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are 20TB03, 20TA03 and 20TA05.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid vehicles manufactured October 19, 2012 to October 27, 2015 and 2013-2015 Lexus ES350 and ES300h vehicles manufactured June 18, 2012 to July 6, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) as optional equipment. In these vehicles, the PCS may unexpectedly activate and apply the brakes when the radar detects a steel joint or plate in the roadway as an object.
- Consequence: A vehicle that unexpectedly brakes increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace certain PCS components, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this campaign are F1V and F2E.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my XLE Premium hybrid. While it's true that the 2013-2015 Avalons are known for having a rough ride, I found that installing struts and springs from the 2018 model year made a noticeable improvement. Although it's not quite a luxury ride, it's definitely better. At 130k miles, the hybrid system isn't as smooth as it used to be, and the car idles a bit roughly and burns a small amount of oil between changes. The auto start and stop feature and road noise are noticeable, but not too bothersome. Throughout my ownership, I've averaged 32 mpg, which I calculate very carefully. Overall, while this year of Avalon doesn't feel particularly special, it's still a great car. If you're in the market, I'd recommend a 2016 or newer model with a V6 over the hybrid. Alternatively, a newer Camry is also a great option that won't leave you feeling like you're missing out on much. Thanks for reading!

Although there are some minor issues, the car is a gem with great mileage! The touch controls can be very sensitive, but this is a small concern. Additionally, I find it somewhat difficult to get in and out of the back seat due to the low position of the driver's seat. However, these issues do not detract from the overall quality of the car.

I wanted to share my experience with the Toyota Avalon Hybrid. While I have noticed some steering wheel vibration between 38mph to 44mph, Toyota claims it is within acceptable tolerance. However, I have found that the vibration disappears at 45mph and the fuel economy greatly improves until about 60mph. On airport trips of 80-90 miles, I have been able to achieve an average of 53.4mpg by not exceeding 60mph. Even at the speed limit of 70mph, I still get an impressive 42.8mpg. The car has a maximum range of 623 miles per tank and I typically refill at 580 to 590 miles. With less than 16 gallons, I can easily make 3 airport trips with a fully loaded car and still have a smooth, quiet, and comfortable ride for all passengers. The car is not a sports car, but it has ample acceleration when needed and great fuel economy on trips. I would highly recommend it to anyone who frequently makes road trips. Additionally, the EVO mode is a great bonus feature that allows you to enjoy all-electric mode for a few minutes or 2 miles when driving below 26mph. Overall, I believe this car is worth every penny of the $32,800 price tag (or just over $40k out the door with tax and title). The ride is far better and quieter than the Camry, which is also an excellent car.

There's a lot to like about this car, but unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. During my test drive, I found the ride to be a little stiff but acceptable. However, after driving it for a month, I have noticed that the harshness of the ride has become increasingly annoying. Every rut, crack, and bump on the road is telegraphed through the chassis, making it difficult to enjoy the ride. On rough roads, the ride can be quite jarring. It is my hope that Toyota will address this issue and make improvements to the suspension. Thank you for considering my experience with this car.

Overall, the car is okay, but it can be quite noisy and the Nav/Radio function is unresponsive at times. It also takes a while to turn on. While the mileage is good, it's not quite up to the advertised standards. Additionally, the side visibility is poor and the Nav location is not ideal. However, we appreciate the effort put into this car and hope that these issues can be addressed in future models.
