Toyota Avalon hybrid problems
The Toyota Avalon (Japanese: トヨタ・アバロン, Hepburn: Toyota Abaron) is a full-size sedan produced by Toyota. It is Toyota's largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship sedan in the United States, Canada, China and the Middle East. It was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion. The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.
Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation and subsequent Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom due to its extended-length chassis. From 2013, the Lexus ES was moved to the extended platform to match the Avalon.
As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.
Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend, fitting it in with Toyota's tradition of naming their sedans the word for "crown" in various languages (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla), types of crowns (Tiara), or other things associated with royalty (Scepter).

Common Toyota Avalon hybrid problems
The Toyota Avalon Hybrid is a popular car known for its luxurious feel and dependability. However, there have been some common problems reported by owners, primarily involving issues with the braking and acceleration of earlier models.
One issue that has been reported is unintended acceleration, which is usually caused by problems with the electronics controlling the car's powertrain. This most commonly happens when the car is shifting gears, when cruise control is disengaged, or when the brakes are engaged. If you experience this issue, it is recommended that you take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible.
Another problem that has been reported is issues with the suspension. Signs of suspension issues include the car leaning back, nose-diving or leaning to one side, or the wear on the tires being uneven. A damaged suspension can mean a bumpy ride, so it is important to diagnose and catch the problem early before it becomes a major inconvenience.
There have also been complaints about problems with the interior accessories of the Avalon Hybrid. However, there have been no major problems reported for the most recent models, which have received great reviews so far.
In addition to these issues, the Avalon Hybrid has been subject to several recalls over the years, including recalls for the accelerator pedal and airbag inflator. It is important to check if any used Avalon you are considering purchasing is still subject to necessary repairs as a result of these recalls.
Overall, while the Toyota Avalon Hybrid is a reliable and dependable car, it is important to be aware of these common problems and to have your car regularly serviced to prolong battery life and catch any early warning signs of problems.

They confirmed the fibers are from their machine but claimed the rust is caused by a pre-existing problem (there is a small gap between the side body that was noted in the pre-inspections), when asked if the rust was noted during pre-inspections as well, they refused to answer my question. There was no evidence of rust or corrosion on the car before this incident and there are other fibers stuck in the side body panels as well which i haven't taken out yet. The 2016 Avalon Hybrid Limited is a fantastic upgrade from the 2014 model. It boasts a plethora of safety features, including blind spot mirrors that help prevent accidents with passing vehicles. The GPS has been much improved, and the Zenon headlights are a standout feature. The front and rear perforated leather heated and cooling seats are a huge improvement over the 2014 model, which only had front heated seats. The 2016 model also has a rear shade that blocks out heads from behind, providing more privacy for rear passengers. The steering is even tighter than the 2014 model, which was already quite good. At $22k used, the 2016 model is a great bargain compared to its original price of $42k. Additionally, the car has a feature that reminds you to pull over and rest, which is a nice convenience for those who drive long distances. Overall, the 2016 Avalon Hybrid Limited is a superior car in every way.

I recently traded my wife's 2005 Acura TL w/Navi for the Touring edition Avalon Hybrid. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we only paid $3500 more than what we paid for the TL 8 years ago. The Avalon is a much more sophisticated and well-executed car. I must say that the owner's manual is a must-read as there are so many small items available on this model, but it is actually well-written and organized. Even during the first week of operation, it is easy to see that the vehicle will likely live up to the EPA rating. Toyota gently seduces you into becoming a fuel-efficient driver and supports that conversion with a sophisticated hybrid drive system. I love the ride, the quietness, spaciousness, and hybrid technology.

I noticed that you have driven 42k on a hybrid Avalon. That's impressive! I also drive a q7 and have owned BMWs in the past. I completely agree with you that the Avalon is a very comfortable and smooth ride. The interior has a luxurious appeal that I really appreciate. Although it's not a sports car, I find that the car is nimble and maneuvers quickly. Overall, I think the Avalon is a great sedan that offers solid value.

I love driving this car! It's my sporty, luxurious, and most importantly, economical ride. I actually own three other Toyota products - a 2007 Lexus, a 1999 4-Runner, and a 2011 Camry - but the Avalon is definitely my favorite. It has a smooth, quiet ride and handles traffic with ease, all while sipping gas. My Touring class has all the bells and whistles, which makes for a distraction-free and safe ride. And let me tell you, the Blind Spot Monitoring system is a game-changer! I can't believe I ever drove without it. Thank you, Toyota, for creating such a fantastic piece of machinery that's both fun to operate and easy on the wallet. Bravo!

Vehicle year: 2019
I had a 2106 Avalon Hybrid and was quite pleased with it. The mileage was close to advertised, but we live in mid-Michigan and between wind, hills, and the weather, you don't always hit the mark. Summers were around 39 mpg and winters around 35 mpg. That being said, the 2019 has a different electric motor configuration and it attains the mileage with greater ease. I had originally always driven it in ECO mode until a recent trip to Florida where I switched to standard mode. Through the mountains, a little over the speed limit the entire time, it averaged 41 mpg! In Florida, driving a little fast, it averaged 43.5 mpg. I am back home and the first tank full leaving it in standard mode was 43.7 mpg. There are some minor concerns as listed by others and one I have not seen. The radio did lock up once and I restarted the car it never happened again. I just had the 20,000 mile service and they said they did an update. Putting gas in the car when the temperature is freezing and the front detection camera was not working, it would not let me fill the tank with gas. Once the front camera was working, I could gas it up. This has occurred three times, so it is not a fluke or one station in particular. I have told the dealer and waiting for a fix, but the weather has changed and it may be tougher to find. The USB for the CarPlay should be up front where you can lay your phone, not in the center armrest, or at least a second one up front. Lastly, the cup holders are a little too far back for a 6-foot-tall person as it makes it awkward when two people are using them. Otherwise, the car does everything well it is claimed to and I love it!

If you're thinking about buying the current generation of Avalon, please take a moment to read this and other reviews before making your decision. I drove my previous vehicle for almost 11 years before choosing the Avalon Limited Hybrid, and I was hoping that this car would last just as long. However, after driving it for nearly 20,000 miles in the last 8 months, I've come to the conclusion that the car might last, but it won't be with me. On the positive side, the car is beautifully styled, has awesome gas mileage for its size, and the interior is just really nice to be in. Unfortunately, that's about where the positives end. Here are some negatives that I think you should consider before making your purchase. Firstly, ride comfort. Every person who has driven or ridden in my car has complained about the seats, both front and back. They are dreadfully hard, and there's an extra feature in the driver's seat that feels like a lump resting between your butt bones. I hope you're catching the sarcasm because I'm laying it on thick. The driver and passenger seats both feel as though there's a baseball tucked under about 3/4

Since 1969, I have only purchased new vehicles, but unfortunately, this Toyota has been the worst experience. The Service Department even admitted that Toyota knew about a manufacturer's defect in the Headliner but failed to disclose it. Only four months after purchasing it, the headliner around the sunroof came loose. Toyota initially suggested tearing apart the car, keeping it for a week, and installing a new one. Then, they came up with a 'fix' involving a magnet that only lasted four more months. After waiting 12 days for the parts to arrive from 3M, Toyota decided not to honor it and insisted on taking out the seats, disconnecting all the electrical, and installing a new headliner. What's next? I will never buy a Toyota again. They need to buy the car back. In 2017, I found out that the hands-free charger for my cell phone, which was supposed to be a 'feature,' never worked. They said it needed a special adapter, which they do not sell. Then, when I inquired about why the e-mail function stopped working, they blamed it on Apple since I have an iPhone. It's frustrating that I have to buy a new phone to fit the car or vice versa. They told me it wouldn't work. Although the car is comfortable and fuel-efficient, it's not what it was cracked up to be. On a positive note, the service department is friendly and good. After three years, the car has served me well, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth relative to some misrepresentations made at the time of purchase. I just wouldn't trust the dealer again to buy a new vehicle. I'm getting ready to trade in the car in 2021.It's great to hear that your vehicle has been reliable for you! However, I understand that you may have some negative feelings towards Toyota as a company. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

With 74,000 miles and 4 years, 8 months of ownership, I can confidently say that my 2014 Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring is a reliable car. Although the driver's seat was initially too firm for my liking, I took the initiative to have additional foam padding added to it at a reputable upholstery shop, and now it is very comfortable. The car provides a smooth and quiet ride on the highway, and while the suspension can be harsh on rough paved streets in the city, it still handles bumps well. Recently, I experienced a loud interior rattle, which turned out to be a defective moonroof. However, I was able to have it repaired for $1859.00. Overall, I am confident in the quality and performance of my car.

Then, they came up with a 'fix' using a magnet that only lasted four more months. They told me it won't work, and I have to buy a phone to fit the car or vice versa. The dialing function has also become very cumbersome. I am counting the days until I trade this vehicle and get something else. On a positive note, the fuel efficiency is great, and the car is comfortable, but it is not what it was cracked up to be. In 2020, other than the initial woes leaving a bad taste, I must say the car has served me well, and the service department is good. However, I just would not trust the dealer again to buy a new vehicle. In 2021, I am getting ready to trade. It's great to hear that your vehicle has been reliable for you!
