Common 2001 Suzuki Esteem problems
The Suzuki Esteem is a compact car that has been known to have some common issues across various model years, including the 2001 model. Here are some of the most frequently reported problems based on complaints from owners of this car:
- Engine Problems: The Suzuki Esteem has been known to experience several engine issues over the years. For example, some owners have reported problems with the engine oil pressure, which could cause the oil light to come on or the engine to make a knocking sound. This is often due to a faulty oil pump or worn bearings, which require replacement. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the fuel system, including clogged fuel injectors or a faulty fuel pump, which can cause the car to stall or not start.
- Transmission Problems: Some owners of the Suzuki Esteem have reported problems with the transmission, including slipping gears or difficulty shifting. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced or rebuilt.
- Electrical Problems: Some owners of the Suzuki Esteem have reported electrical issues, such as problems with the ignition system, which can cause the car to stall or not start at all. This is often caused by a faulty ignition coil, which needs to be replaced.
- Suspension Issues: Some owners of the Suzuki Esteem have reported problems with the suspension, including axle and axle boot problems. These issues may be due to the fact that the car is driven in Canada, where the roads may be more challenging for the car's suspension.
- Brake Problems: Some owners of the Suzuki Esteem have reported problems with the brakes, including brake pedal pulsation and squeak-type noises.
These are just a few of the common problems that have been reported by owners of the Suzuki Esteem, including the 2001 model. It is important for owners to stay up-to-date on regular maintenance and address any issues as soon as they arise to ensure the longevity and reliability of their vehicle.

- Summary: 2001 SUZUKI ESTEEM. STEERING WAS SUDDENLY OFF CENTER SO I HAD AN ALIGNMENT COMPLETED WHICH FIXED THE PROBLEM. ABOUT 1 WEEK LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY OFF CENTER AGAIN. A FEW BLOCKS FURTHER (I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AT THE TIME, AT SLOW SPEEDS) THE FRONT PASSENGER SUB-FRAME BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL TO SLOPE AND THE SUSPENSION TO PULL OUT FROM THE TRANSMISSION, IMMEDIATELY MAKING THE CAR INOPERABLE. HAD THIS OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I AM SURE AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE ENSUED. FORTUNATELY IT OCCURS AS I WAS PULLING UP TO A STOP SIGN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP, WHERE I LEARNED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE FRAME RUSTING THROUGH AND BREAKING. WHILE THERE WERE SMALL RUST SPOTS ON THE BOTTOM OF ONE OF THE DOORS, THE CAR WAS NOT AT ALL RUSTY. DUE TO EXPENSE TO REPAIR, I SOLD THE CAR TO THE HORSEHEADS, NY PICK-A-PART USED CAR PARTS LOT AND PURCHASED A NEW CAR. *TR
