The Subaru WRX is an all-wheel drive sport compact car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru, originally based on the Impreza created for the World Rally Championship in 1992. Subaru claimed the name WRX stands for "World Rally eXperimental". Several limited edition first-generation coupés were offered in the late 1990s and early 2000s which were never sold in the US and are highly sought after by Subaru enthusiasts.
The second-generation WRX (GD/GG chassis codes for the sedan/wagon, respectively) was brought over to the United States domestic market for model year 2002, with the STI being brought over for model year 2004. The initial "bugeye" front end styling (2000) was superseded by the "blobeye" in 2004 and the "hawkeye" in 2006. Under an agreement between Fuji Heavy Industries and General Motors, Saab sold its own version of the WRX, marketed as the Saab 9-2X, for the 2005 and 2006 model years. The 9-2X was available in both a standard (Linear) and performance (Aero) package, the latter was essentially identical to the second-generation WRX wagon, mechanically.
The third-generation WRX were sold as chassis codes GE (sedan) and GH (hatchback, replacing the earlier wagon version) initially; the third-generation WRX STI was sold with a widened chassis and was available only as a widebody hatch (GR). For the 2011 model year, the third-generation WRX sedan and hatch were moved to the GV and GR wide-body chassis variants, respectively, and a widebody sedan version of the STI (GV) was marketed. The Impreza was redesigned and the fourth-generation was first marketed for model year 2012, making it a distinct model from the WRX, which continued on the third-generation GV/GR chassis until 2014 in most markets.
The fourth-generation WRX were given the VA chassis designation and marketed as a separate model from the Impreza starting in 2015.

THE FORCE REQUIRED TO PULL THE PARKING BRAKE TO 11 CLICKS IS MORE THAN MANY PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO APPLY IN A SINGLE MOTION AS REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW. IN ADDITION, AIR COMPRESSION IS EXPLICATED STATED IN FEDERAL LAW AS NOT ALLOWED AS A MECHANISM OF FORCE FOR USE IN A PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. AIR COMPRESSION IS WHAT IS USED IN THE ENGINE AS A MEANS TO PREVENT THE WHEELS FROM MOVING WHEN IN GEAR. FURTHER, THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM SHALL ACCORDING TO FEDERAL LAW, USE AN ACCUMULATION OF FORCE INDEPENDENT OF OTHER SYSTEMS FOR THE PARKING BRAKE, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE PER THE INSTRUCTION FROM SUBARU. - Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2015-2021 WRX vehicles. The backup light switch may corrode and become inoperative, which can result in the backup lights not illuminating and the rearview camera image not displaying when the vehicle is in reverse.
- Consequence: Inoperative backup lights and an inoperative rearview camera can reduce vehicle visibility and driver awareness, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the backup light switch, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 19, 2022. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRE-22.

TL;DR: The base model WRX is a simple and raw car that feels great to drive. Despite lacking some features like seat adjustment and heated seats, it doesn't feel like a cheap option. The only other options I would've liked would be the Performance Package which is only available from Premium Trim and up. However, that adds a lot of weight and price to the car which I can live without. Although the driver's seat is a basic manual adjustable, non-heated, fabric seat, it is lighter than motorized seats and manual adjustment is fine. The big issue I have with the seat is no lumbar adjustment at all and no adjustment for your thighs/knees. It's a common grumble amongst owners. Shifting the 6MT (mine has the short throw shifter as well) is satisfying, entertaining and rewarding. However, there are 3 things that make it somewhat challenging. First is the clutch and its travel which is sort of up and towards the dash rather than more of a natural forward push towards the firewall. Not a huge deal but it does play into the seat not being super comfy. Overall, I love this car to bits.One issue you may notice with the car's throttle mapping is that it's not linear. This means that 10% throttle does not necessarily equate to 10% of the engine's power or load. Additionally, the rev hang feature, which holds engine revs up when you depress the clutch, can be a bit of a hindrance. While it helps with downshifting, it can also make shifting from 1st to 2nd gear a bit tricky. However, with a bit of practice, it's not too difficult to master. Despite these minor issues, I find the car to be quite enjoyable to drive. The base model is simple yet exciting, and the visibility is excellent. There is also plenty of space, including in the rear seats which can accommodate full-size adults. Overall, I am confident driving this car in any situation and would recommend it to others.I'm a big fan of hydraulic power steering, but I must say that this electric steering is surprisingly good. The only difference I've noticed is the lack of a bit of 'rubber banding' feel from a hydraulic steering set up. Also, the car is undeniably beautiful and quick. There are tons of videos available for you to peruse showcasing its performance.

The 2020 STI is a fantastic sports car that brings back memories of the JDM analog legends of the 90s. It has quick, weighty, and communicative steering that is not tiring or twitchy. The hydraulic rack and pinion set up provides a connected feel for the driver, making it one of the best cars on the road. The engine has been updated in 2019, but still delivers a classic turbocharged punch with the torque coming into play once the turbo comes onto boil over 3.5k RPM. The precise 6 Speed transmission is the only available option and is a joy to shift. The legendary AWD system with actual mechanical limited slip differentials and a driver-controlled electronic center differential will carry you through any weather. Although a set of winter tires would be recommended if you're planning on really tackling ice and snow. This is a car for the enthusiast that you can use every single day. In the coming electric autonomous future, this is a car that still demands to be driven.

Subaru makes the best cars ever! I have always loved them, especially because they come in AWD and last forever. I even passed my 2005 WRX, which had 155,000 miles on it, to my son and it still runs perfectly to this day. Recently, I got myself the 2019 WRX and it's such an amazing car! The handling, speed, and acceleration are all top-notch. The new racing style seats are so comfortable and keep you centered in fun turns. Plus, you don't need to pay extra for GPS because it uses all the features of your phone when connected through USB. With the WRX, you get more for your money, including AWD, turbo, and a touchscreen entertainment center. There's even more cabin space than in previous models, so my three kids fit in the back seats just fine. The only thing I could complain about is that the speakers could have been better, but it's not a huge deal.

I've owned my 2019 STI for about a year now and I have never regretted my decision. Although some reviews mention that the clutch can be tough to get used to, I personally find it to be smooth as butter after the fifth time driving it. If you want smoother shifts in the city, I recommend switching to Intelligent mode, and for long drives, switch to Sport Sharp to easily overtake any car. While it's true that the suspension is tight and you may feel some big bumps, the 310 hp engine more than makes up for it when it comes to handling smaller bumps.

There are many great things about this car that make up for some of its negative aspects. I chose the base model for several reasons. At 2k rpms, the turbo starts taking off and at 2500 it’s fully active. The car handles corners with ease, but the tires are only suitable for summer. The car looks beautiful and appeals to the inner child that wants a race car, and it has a nice amount of power. The 6mt is pretty good as well, although the clutch pedal is uncomfortable with the seats provided. It causes my right leg to throb and hurt when driving for longer than an hour. Luckily, that’s usually only once a month on a 4-hour trip. I'm trying to figure out a solution, most likely by replacing the bottom padding with something more comfortable. The upper part of the seat is perfectly fine for me, a 190lb 6'3The car is not very loud, but installing a Boomba BPV (not BOV) will make you fall in love with it every time you let off the throttle. The FA20 engine is reliable and I have yet to see anyone have real issues with a stock one. My only complaints are the clutch engagement and the seat padding. If you're coming from an Impreza, you'll find them very stiff, but you'll get used to them within the first day or two. The interior of the 2020 base model is really nice. I don't know what kind of interior others are looking for, but for me, it looks amazing. I also liked the base Impreza hatch interior. The fake carbon fiber still looks cool. The headlights are actually bright enough in my small town that I didn't have to replace the bulbs like I did on the Impreza. We don't have many lit up roads, so I'm glad the base headlights perform well. They don't look that pretty, but $400 can get you a nice pair of aftermarket headlights. Overall, it's an extremely fun car. On the highway, I've been averaging 32 mpg at around 80 mph, even with some hills. In the city, I get about 28 mpg. If I'm driving spiritedly, then it drops about 2 or 3 mpg. So it has really great gas mileage either way. It gets way more than advertised, and I'm not even trying much to get good gas mileage. The FA engine deserves some credit. If you're thinking about this car and you're not sure, I'd say go test drive one and take a day or more to think about it. The summer tires are the only downside depending on where you live. Since I just got mine and it's almost fall, I need all-season or winter tires very shortly here. Sadly, I've got to cough up more money on that since I live in Colorado and it can snow heavily here. I've driven a 2018 Mercedes G-Wagon with 566hp and similar torque numbers. While it was faster, it didn't feel as good as this WRX does. And it's not even close to the $180k price tag for the G-Wagon.I absolutely love my 2018 WRX! Even though the steering was a bit all over the place, I heard that the 2019 and newer models have a different steering rack. The stock performance of this car is simply amazing, especially considering its cost. It's hard not to smile when driving it! Subaru did a great job making it more approachable for those who aren't familiar with turbo cars. In the future, these cars may become more affordable for those who want a solid car but don't have much experience with them. However, we'll have to wait and see if any issues arise with the FA20 engine. So far, I've owned it for 9 months and haven't had any problems.

My 2020 STI has had several issues, including difficulty shifting into second gear and rattling or clunking noises due to loose bolts or screws. Despite bringing it in for repairs every month, the dealer has been unable to resolve these issues. Additionally, the air conditioning lost its charge after only two months of use. While I had been considering purchasing this car for years, I regret my decision and will not be buying another Subaru.

If you're thinking about the WRX, it's worth considering whether you really need AWD. If not, a Ford Focus RS or VW GTI could provide a more enjoyable driving experience. Unfortunately, the rev hang can be problematic and you may find yourself having to slip the clutch into gear. Additionally, the shifter on the base model can be clunky and imprecise, sometimes requiring up to 10 pounds of pressure to engage a gear. Personally, I'm looking forward to selling this car once the insurance policy expires, but I hope you find the right car for your needs!
