The Scion xB is a compact car (subcompact car in its first generation) made by Scion, a now-defunct fully owned division of Toyota, for the United States market. It is a box-shaped, 5-door hatchback.
First generation (XP30; 2003)
The first-generation xB was a lightly modified and rebadged version of the Japanese-market subcompact Toyota bB. It was a small hatchback based on the Toyota Echo/Yaris platform. To create the first-generation xB, the bB was modified from right- to left-hand drive, the front passenger area was also changed significantly with the bB's front bench seat replaced with bucket seats and the column-mounted shifter changed to a floor-mounted shifter.
The available drivetrains also differed. The bB was available with either the 1.3 L I4 2NZ-FE engine or the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE, mated exclusively to a 4-speed automatic transmission with available all wheel drive. The xB was only available with the 1NZ-FE that produced 108 hp (81 kW) and 105 lb⋅ft (142 N⋅m) in US spec, but offered both a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. All-wheel drive was not offered on the xB.
The Toyota bB was equipped with a compact spare tire under the floor of the luggage area. On the Scion xB, a compact spare tire was stored under the left side of a raised rear cargo floor. Since the spare tire raised the cargo floor by several inches, a storage bin was added to the right of the spare tire to reclaim some of the lost storage space. A jack was stored under the driver's seat of the xB.
The Toyota bB had a pull-out storage tray under the passenger seat that the xB lacks.
The bB went on sale in February 2000, whereas the xB went on sale in June 2003 for the 2004 model year. Sales of the first-generation bB ended in December 2005, whereas the first-generation xB ended sales in June 2007.

- Summary: I purchased my 2011Scion XB 09/08/2010 and in the last 12 months, my scion XB has been burning oil extremely fast. I have to add oil to the vehicle approximately every 4-5 weeks. I’ve taken it to the the Toyota dealership and was advised that the only way to fix the issue is by getting a new engine. Also, every time I break, there is a grinding sound even if with new break pads, and the steering column shakes. The tires sensors have malfunctioned because even after having the tires professionally replaced or filled, the light never goes off. Lastly, the vehicle door sensors are also not working properly.

During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
- Consequence: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. - Consequence: An inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires. An overloaded vehicle can result in a tire failure which may result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or property damage.
- Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners and provide a corrected label with instructions concerning its installation. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share that I recently purchased a car on Monday and I'm absolutely loving it! When I first signed the papers, I wasn't completely sold on it, but now I couldn't be happier. Despite having a small engine, it really has a lot of kick. The only thing I've noticed is that it doesn't handle perfectly when driving next to a semi, as you can really get blown around. Overall, it's a great vehicle though!

I purchased a 2011 Scion XB in 2020 and so far, I have had no problems with it. The car has good acceleration, great gas mileage, and plenty of interior space. It's also really fun to drive, which I love. Overall, I'm really happy with this car!

When I heard that the xB was no longer being produced in the U.S., I knew I had to act fast and get the 8.0 that I had always wanted. I was really hoping that they would continue to make xBs, and maybe even come out with one that I would like even more. The RS 8.0 is definitely my favourite xB. In 2016, I was lucky enough to find a used one with only 41k miles on it and a 3 month warranty. I absolutely love driving it - it's so much fun! It hugs the corners just as well as my 2003 Miata used to. As for the wind vortex review, I've found that cracking open the sun roof does the trick. Some cars just have this issue. I rated the transmission as poor because I think that adding an overdrive gear would have greatly improved the gas mileage, like my old Camry used to have. It's a bit bouncier than my Lexus ES, but I still enjoy driving it for other reasons. I recently put some Michelins on it and it drives much smoother than it did with the old tires. I can't say enough about how much I appreciate the simplicity of the xB compared to my ES350. It's so easy to change the transmission fluid and tune it up. I've put 20k miles on it since I bought it with around 35k miles on it, and the brake pads still look new.

I think it would be great if a 6-speed Auto transmission was available for the XB, as the gas mileage could be improved. I have noticed that the fuel level drops quite quickly after filling up, unlike my Camry where I could get around 200 miles when it reached half tank. I am currently getting around 20-22 mpg in the city, but I have yet to test it on the highway. Despite this, I really like the car. It would be even better if it had a bigger tank and 6sp A/T, and high back front seats for taller drivers like myself. Additionally, a rearseat armrest with cup holder like the Camry would be a nice touch.

I had to return my last car and spent a month checking every dealership I could think of. Eventually, I ended up at Toyota and test drove the Matrix. I came close to signing but then I saw the Xb close by and had to try it. I loved it, and a week later I am driving it. It has nice looks, is fully loaded, and is smooth to drive.

The car initially seems nice, but there are some issues that need to be addressed. When only the rear windows are down, there is a strong vortex that can be uncomfortable for your ears. While Scion claims that this is normal for all cars, many drivers would disagree. Additionally, when using cruise control on a flat road, the car tends to speed up on its own, which can be concerning. The brakes also require pumping to stop smoothly, and there is a noticeable clunk when downshifting. Finally, the windows rattle and the plastic can come loose. Overall, these issues detract from the car's appeal and should be addressed by Scion.
