2018 Nissan Rogue sport problems

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-12-17
  • VIN: JN1BJ1CR5JW
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Initial incident vehicle had failure to correctly advance when placed in drive after startup. Vehicle then suddenly jerked forward into drive and was able to proceed. Took the vehicle into the dealer that I purchased from and they told me that nothing was wrong and the vehicle was in perfect condition with no mechanical problems. About a month later (yesterday) while I was out shopping the vehicle suddenly started to make noise and was unable to pick up speed as normal. It would not accelerate as it should. It would start slowly and then jerk forward picking up speed. By the time I got home (about 8 miles) it would barely do more than 18 mph. Makes a whirring sound and just no acceleration. Luckily I was able to get it into my garage safely. So...this month is my last payment on this vehicle and at only 78,000 miles I thought I would be enjoying months of payment free usage before repairs were needed. WRONG! A friend told me that my vehicle was on a recall list but that was wrong too. Now I am waiting to get estimates on what a new transmission would cost. Not happy. Will never buy a Nissan again. I called the corporate recall number and they so gladly gave me the news that there is no recall. Sucks! Do I pay the price for a transmission or do I trade it in. Trying to retire but now might have to work to pay this bill. Sucks! Previously had Jeeps that ran for way over the 200k miles and had very few problems. Time to consider another vehicle brand. Any suggestions? This won't help get my vehicle fixed but it helps with the stress!

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2018 Nissan Rogue sport.

2023-02-16
  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:IMMOBILIZER/PROXIMITY:KEY/SENDER
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
  • Consequence: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

Negative 2018 Nissan Rogue sport car reviews

  1. Garrett Hammes 2025-02-20

I really wanted to like this car, but unfortunately it hasn't met my expectations. Although it's reliable and hasn't had any mechanical issues, I feel that for the price I paid, I could have found a better option. I have the 2018.5 SL, which has a sticker price of about 32-33k. If you're considering purchasing this vehicle, I would recommend doing so with significant incentives. For this price point, you could find a bigger, higher quality Jeep Cherokee with more features if you shop around. The car is underpowered, noisy, and takes a long time to warm up in the winter, which can be uncomfortable. The windshield defroster is not very effective, and the heated seats are barely noticeable. Additionally, I find the trunk cover to be inconvenient. Although it can be removed, I believe that an SUV/Crossover should have an open trunk with tinted windows, and I shouldn't have to disassemble my car just to transport larger items. While this car may suit some people's needs, I will be trading it in this year for something bigger and of higher quality, likely for a similar price.

  2. Elwin Sipes 2025-01-08

This vehicle has a really loud take off, even louder than most trucks. I sometimes feel a bit embarrassed at stop lights because I'm the only one that can be heard leaving. It's a bit smaller than the NISSAN ROGUE, so if you need extra cargo space, it might not be the best option. However, if you can tolerate the noise, it does get good gas mileage, which is definitely a plus.

  3. Moises Mosciski 2024-11-19

My windshield cracked and I'm not sure why. My Nissan Rogue is only two months old. I took the car to the dealership and they said that something might have hit it. I was disappointed because I expected a car that is supposed to be so good to withstand more than just a pebble (the dealership said it could be that) and not have the warranty cover it. However, Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield New Jersey offered to help with some of the charges, which was a positive experience. I'm considering other options for my next car purchase, maybe even a Toyota. Safety is a top priority for me and I want to make sure I'm driving a reliable car.

  4. Justyn Cassin 2024-06-10

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Rouge Sport that I bought in 2018 with only 11 miles on it. Although I haven't had it for a year yet, I recently received advice from a Nissan dealership in Texas that my car needs a new motor. While I admit that I didn't have regular oil changes, I'm surprised that my car is already experiencing such a major issue. I'm having a hard time understanding why this car wasn't built to last longer than a year of driving.

  5. Ronny Koelpin 2024-04-17

What a lovely car! It has only been driven for 17,500 miles, mostly on the highway, and I have taken great care of it by regularly maintaining it at a dealership. It has always been kept in my indoor garage. Unfortunately, after 3 years, the AC stopped working. I took it to the dealership and they gave me a quote for the repairs: 08NIZCONTR - HEATER A/C CONTROLS $175, A/C Horses: low pressure line off compressor $261.56, A/C condenser Replacement $963.99, OOMPI - PERFORM MULTI POINT VEHICLE INSPECTION $175, for a total of $1489.48. I believe that Nissan should consider issuing a recall, as unreliable climate controls can be a driving hazard in certain situations.

Positive 2018 Nissan Rogue sport car reviews

  1. Lewis Kautzer 2025-03-28

The car is a great smaller sized SUV with a spacious interior in both the front and back. I'm excited to take my family on many trips with it. Although it doesn't have the automatic stop back up feature or the foot activated lift up feature for the back hatch like the regular Rogue, it does have some nice safety features. Nissan, do you think you could add those features to the Sport in the future? The ride can be a bit bouncy at times, but overall I'm really happy with my purchase.

  2. Guy Koss 2025-03-23

I've been told that the CVT transmission is the reason why the car doesn't immediately respond when I press the throttle. However, I noticed that if I gradually press the pedal, it tends to respond better. Unfortunately, this isn't much help when I'm trying to merge onto freeway traffic. On the bright side, I got the Sun & Sound package, which included a sunroof and premium sound system. The SL trim level also included leather upholstery, which is a nice touch. I do wish that the Midnight trim package was available for the Rogue Sport, but unfortunately, it's only available for the larger Rogue. About six months after my purchase, I received a card from Nissan informing me that there's been a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) issued regarding a fault with the automatic braking system engaging for no reason. As it's still under warranty, I took it in for service, even though I hadn't experienced any problems. The loaner I used, however, did have this issue when mine was being prepped by the dealer. All that was required was a software update, which took about 30 minutes.

This is the best car I have ever owned! It's so much fun to drive and has the latest tech. Although I do wish the seats and interior were a little nicer and it had a bit more power, it's still a great car overall.

I recently purchased this car after my 2015 Toyota Corolla stick shift was wrecked. I test drove several other cars in this class, including Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, and Kia. While some outperformed the Rogue Sport in terms of power and comfort, I ultimately chose it for its affordable price and great features. Despite being labeled as a 'Sport' model, it performs well in both stop-and-go traffic and on steep mountain roads. The brakes are above average and the ride is comfortable in the front, although backseat passengers may feel cramped on longer trips. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and feel that I got an amazing deal. Thank you for considering my review!

Hi there! We've had the 2018 Rogue Sport for just 3 weeks now and so far, everything has been just as we expected. We bought it as a run-around-town SUV since we already have a larger one for family trips and big purchases. The Rogue can handle the same duties in a smaller package, which is really convenient. Although we would have loved a power tailgate and power passenger seat, unfortunately they weren't offered. On the bright side, it's great that it looks like a sleek SUV rather than a square box!
