First generation (S35; 2007)
The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.
The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

- Summary: Initial incident vehicle had failure to correctly advance when placed in drive after startup. Vehicle then suddenly jerked forward into drive and was able to proceed. Took the vehicle into the dealer that I purchased from and they told me that nothing was wrong and the vehicle was in perfect condition with no mechanical problems. About a month later (yesterday) while I was out shopping the vehicle suddenly started to make noise and was unable to pick up speed as normal. It would not accelerate as it should. It would start slowly and then jerk forward picking up speed. By the time I got home (about 8 miles) it would barely do more than 18 mph. Makes a whirring sound and just no acceleration. Luckily I was able to get it into my garage safely. So...this month is my last payment on this vehicle and at only 78,000 miles I thought I would be enjoying months of payment free usage before repairs were needed. WRONG! A friend told me that my vehicle was on a recall list but that was wrong too. Now I am waiting to get estimates on what a new transmission would cost. Not happy. Will never buy a Nissan again. I called the corporate recall number and they so gladly gave me the news that there is no recall. Sucks! Do I pay the price for a transmission or do I trade it in. Trying to retire but now might have to work to pay this bill. Sucks! Previously had Jeeps that ran for way over the 200k miles and had very few problems. Time to consider another vehicle brand. Any suggestions? This won't help get my vehicle fixed but it helps with the stress!

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.
- Consequence: Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Consequence: The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. 31000 miles/52000 kms. The AWD makes a real difference in the snow and on ice. The fit and finish is holding up well with no rattles or leaks. The safety features are really nice to have, especially in parking lot areas, with the audible alerts. I am pleased with the gas mileage, mid 30 mpg and up on long hauls. I would definitely buy another one. UPDATE: This is a nice, reliable vehicle that is good on fuel and well-appointed with safety features. I purchased it new from the dealer and have had no issues in 40,000 miles.

I've had my 2018.5 Rogue Sport S for almost three years now and I absolutely love it! One of the things that drew me to this car was its incredible value, especially considering the safety features that come standard. It's hard to find front crash avoidance and true blind spot monitors in an entry-level package, but this car has it all! Additionally, after test driving several other vehicles in this segment, I found that the Rogue Sport S was the most substantial and solid feeling of them all. The driving performance is also much better than what professional reviews indicate. While it's not a sports car or a luxury ride, it's a competent small SUV that can easily merge with traffic in any conditions. It also has no problem passing on the highway or cruising at 75 to 80 mph. Overall, it's a fantastic car at a great price. The only downside is a troubling A/C issue that my local Nissan dealer has not fully diagnosed. My car appears to have some faulty AC controls, or perhaps a bad evaporator thermostat. Other than that, the car has been great. **Update 2022: the climate control situation is still there, and a quick check of the internet indicates it's fairly common in Rogues and Rougue Sports. Since I live where it is always hot, I tend to be able to just leave it on full A/C without too much trouble. But, if I switch to defrost, I run the risk of losing A/C for several hours. It's a bit weird and annoying, but quite infrequent in my case. I wish Nissan would issue a recall, as not having reliable climate controls can be a driving hazard in some situations.

I have leased my Rogue Sport for almost three years now and I still absolutely love it. The SUV is just the right size for me and it provides very comfortable seating with plenty of room both in the front and back. The trunk has a deep storage area and my dog loves riding in the back seat. Although I had a scare with the Emergency Braking system during the first few months, I had Nissan turn it off and have had no other issues since. The vehicle has great pick up and the exterior looks sporty, especially the headlights which I love. I am seriously considering buying it out at the end of the lease.

This vehicle has a really loud take off, even louder than most trucks. I sometimes feel a bit embarrassed at stop lights because I'm the only one that can be heard leaving. It's a bit smaller than the NISSAN ROGUE, so if you need extra cargo space, it might not be the best option. However, if you can tolerate the noise, it does get good gas mileage, which is definitely a plus.

My windshield cracked and I'm not sure why. My Nissan Rogue is only two months old. I took the car to the dealership and they said that something might have hit it. I was disappointed because I expected a car that is supposed to be so good to withstand more than just a pebble (the dealership said it could be that) and not have the warranty cover it. However, Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield New Jersey offered to help with some of the charges, which was a positive experience. I'm considering other options for my next car purchase, maybe even a Toyota. Safety is a top priority for me and I want to make sure I'm driving a reliable car.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Rouge Sport that I bought in 2018 with only 11 miles on it. Although I haven't had it for a year yet, I recently received advice from a Nissan dealership in Texas that my car needs a new motor. While I admit that I didn't have regular oil changes, I'm surprised that my car is already experiencing such a major issue. I'm having a hard time understanding why this car wasn't built to last longer than a year of driving.

What a lovely car! It has only been driven for 17,500 miles, mostly on the highway, and I have taken great care of it by regularly maintaining it at a dealership. It has always been kept in my indoor garage. Unfortunately, after 3 years, the AC stopped working. I took it to the dealership and they gave me a quote for the repairs: 08NIZCONTR - HEATER A/C CONTROLS $175, A/C Horses: low pressure line off compressor $261.56, A/C condenser Replacement $963.99, OOMPI - PERFORM MULTI POINT VEHICLE INSPECTION $175, for a total of $1489.48. I believe that Nissan should consider issuing a recall, as unreliable climate controls can be a driving hazard in certain situations.

Despite my car being only 2 and a half years old, I have been unable to find any cooling fan parts to fix it. However, I am confident in my ability to resolve this issue. Although the Extended Warranty Nissan office has not been helpful, I am determined to find a solution. My car has been in the shop since July 12, 2021, and although the extended warranty has expired, I am still committed to getting it fixed. Despite the lack of a loaner car, I am determined to find a way to get to work. After all, this is a car that I paid off last year, and I am not willing to let it go to waste.
