Nissan Rogue sport problems

The Nissan Rogue is a compact crossover SUV produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan. It made its debut in October 2007 for the 2008 model year. Beginning in 2013 for the 2014 model year, the model has been merged with the X-Trail sold outside the North American market, making them identical. It is currently Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the United States.

As of 2023, the Rogue was manufactured at the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant in Tennessee, United States and at the Nissan Motor Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka, Japan. Between August 2014 and March 2020, it was also built at the Renault Samsung Motors plant in Busan, South Korea under contract.

First generation (S35; 2007)

The first-generation Rogue made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on 7 January 2007. It replaces the Nissan X-Trail in Canada as Nissan's entry-level SUV and the body-on-frame Nissan Xterra in Mexico due to the Smyrna plant freeing capacity for the Suzuki Equator, although the Xterra continued on sale in the United States and Canada through 2015 after being withdrawn from the Mexican market after the 2008 model year.

The first-generation Rogue was available in three trim levels in the United States: S, SV and SL, available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Common Nissan Rogue sport problems

The Nissan Rogue Sport has been a popular choice for many drivers due to its balance of size, capability, and features. However, like any vehicle, it has had its fair share of problems, with some model years being more problematic than others.

One of the most common issues across various model years is related to the infotainment system, which includes audio, GPS, phone, rear entertainment, backup cameras, and sensors. Owners have reported problems with volume control, as well as issues with the touchscreen, GPS navigation, and phone connectivity.

The 2017 and 2018 Rogue Sport models have been particularly problematic. The 2017 model has 51 complaints and one recall, with the top issue being a loss of power while driving.

The 2018 Rogue Sport also received over 80 user complaints and two recalls, with issues similar to those reported for the 2017 model. These include transmission failure, loss of power, overheating, and jerking or shuddering sensations when accelerating.

Another significant issue across various model years is related to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has been reported to experience premature failure compared to regular automatic transmissions. This can result in the car no longer being able to change gears, effectively leaving the vehicle immobile.

Engine problems have also been reported, with issues such as engine rebuilds or replacements, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt, accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, and oil leaks.

Other common problems include issues with the climate control system, such as AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, and automatic climate system failures.

The 2017 and 2018 model years have also had issues with the braking system, including premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, and brake failure.

In summary, the Nissan Rogue Sport has had various issues across different model years, with the 2017 and 2018 models being particularly problematic. Common problems include issues with the infotainment system, CVT transmission, engine, climate control system, electrical system, and braking system. It is essential to be aware of these issues when considering purchasing a used Nissan Rogue Sport.

  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-18
  • VIN: JN1BJ1CR2KW
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: Hi. I was driving my Nissan car at around 45 to 50 miles per hour and the car abruptly/suddenly stopped in the middle of the road without any warning. I was about to be hit by other cars behind me but Thank God that didn’t happen. I am very scared of driving this car now. My kids also drive this car and I am extremely worried about their safety. I am hoping Nissan will do something. Extremely worried and scared.

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-02
  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-03
  • VIN: JN1BJ1CR8KW
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
  • Summary: The part that failed was the cooling fan. According to a litany of Google searches, and from a few dealerships, Nissan has known for years about faulty cooling fans and has done nothing about it. My cooling fan went out last night and sprayed coolant everywhere. Not only did the coolant become gaseous as it burned against the hot engine, this poses a huge safety issue as it can cause a vehicle to stall on the highway and become a safety hazard in the event that other vehicles ram into the stalled vehicle, and vice versa. This problem has been confirmed as an issue by the dealership that I go to and yet Nissan has refused to do anything about it. Prior to the failure, there were no warning lamps or signs, until it actually happened and then the check engine light came on. By then it was too late. This issue can cause problems if someone is driving on the highway and are none the wiser. After doing some research, there were class action lawsuits against a few 2013-2017 models of Nissan vehicles, but not for anything beyond that. Confirmed by the dealer, these issues are well known and could be fixed with a recall. Thankfully, my car was parked at the time of the incident, right before I started on a 45 minute drive back home from where I was at. I live in the Chicagoland area, where traffic tends to be high and had it happened on the highway, it could’ve caused an even bigger issue to those around me.

  • Summary: While in drive mode my car just shut off. The dash cluster, screen, etc remained on. I was able to put the car in park and start it again, however this could have caused me a horrible accident losing power while in drive like this. I just purchased this vehicle in June of 2024. It has 81k on it. I called the dealership which I bought it at Mccarthy Auto in Sedalia MO. They said I should call Nissan.

  • Summary: On Wednesday [XXX], I brought my car to AutoNation Nissan in Pembroke Pines Florida due to non-functional windshield wipers. By Wednesday, August 21st, I was informed that not only were the windshield wiper motors inoperable, but a part called the engine harness was also required for repairs, and this part was not available. . I also reached out to my extended warranty program and spoke with Siena at Nissan Corporate, who provided me with case number [XXX]. The part number needed is ASSY-24012-6 MA OC. Despite my repeated follow-ups every three days with Sienna, I have been informed each time that the part remains on backorder with no estimated arrival date and that a loaner vehicle cannot be provided. Consequently, I am now forced to drive my car without windshield wipers, which is unsafe. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-21
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-21
  • VIN: JN1BJ1CRXHW
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: Rogue Sport 2017, 52K miles: The A/C was not blowing and I took it into Firestone where they said it was a weak air compressor (this shouldn't be the case on a low mileage car). A week later the hood started smoking and upon inspection the coolant level was 1/4 tank and the engine malfunction light was on. I took it to and independent service center, Bass Auto (Nolensville Road, Nashville TN) and they said it was NOT SAFE to drive (engine can overheat and catch fire) due to a Radiator Coolant Fan (part # 214816MA0B or 214816MA0A) and that they have had to fix many of the these. The fan is responsible for blowing the cold air from the AC and keeping the engine cool so poses risk of engine failure. Looking at Reddit and facebook groups there are many people that have this issue on low mileage Rogue/Rogue Sports (Years 2017 - 2020) and there is a class action lawsuit that was filed in the State of Tennessee for this issue (XXX et al vs. Nissan - link below). I am having to spend > $1K to repair and this is a common issue that is unsafe and not recalled. [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-10
  • Date Complaint: 2024-08-12
  • VIN: JN1BJ1CV7LW
  • Components: STEERING,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: On Saturday [XXX] while driving on [XXX] while in cruise control mode and set approx. 71 mph I know that my right knee made minimal contact with keyfob and the engine seemed to shut down and the vehicle decelerated immediately, I had no desire to brake due to my seeing my speed was near 30 mph. Traffic was not directly behind and all I was trying to locate was the 4 way hazard to engage which having only recently purchasing [XXX] and I had driven maybe 60 miles I located but with seeing a couple of vehicles approaching and being in the #2 lane my steering was stiff with little chance to get over safely to the #1 lane or to the further left HOV lane, I reached down w/ right hand and made very minimal contact with ignition/ keyfob area and the vehicle had power and was able to regain speed. I absolutely did not attempt to turn the key that was still fully in place. I can not say that other than making contact with no aggressive action or intent was I to believe the vehicle would again be running as it had prior and I proceeded the remainder of my trip (approx. 15-18 miles) with no further issues and without a clue other than I had been made aware of the recall prior to purchase and told it was not anything to be concerned with that the jackknife keyfob seemed to lock in the open position fine, and to just leave it in that position, which I did not agree with that opinion as I read about this safety issue and have brought up on at least 4 occasions prior to and after the sale. We were actually informed by the finance mgr. upon signing there were NO RECALLS on this vehicle, which we made him aware of and he commented that it would be nice if somebody would let him know that! And I informed sales person on two separate occasions as well asking that it receive the final Nissan remedy yet never being taken very seriously and now unhappy with this event when I that my knee making such slight contact is disturbing! Latest negative Nissan Rogue sport car reviews

  1. Joel Raynor 2024-11-23

    Vehicle year: 2021

I test drove the Rogue Sport and found the acceleration and overall ride to be underwhelming. However, I ultimately decided to purchase the Rogue Platinum, which I find to be a much more enjoyable ride.

  2. Moises Mosciski 2024-11-19

    Vehicle year: 2018

My windshield cracked and I'm not sure why. My Nissan Rogue is only two months old. I took the car to the dealership and they said that something might have hit it. I was disappointed because I expected a car that is supposed to be so good to withstand more than just a pebble (the dealership said it could be that) and not have the warranty cover it. However, Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield New Jersey offered to help with some of the charges, which was a positive experience. I'm considering other options for my next car purchase, maybe even a Toyota. Safety is a top priority for me and I want to make sure I'm driving a reliable car.

  3. Domenick Kreiger 2024-09-10

    Vehicle year: 2017

I purchased my Rogue Sport in August and experienced issues with the Forward Emergency Braking system by October. Despite taking it to Downtown Nissan in Nashville and involving Nissan USA, the problem could not be identified. However, I have evidence of the issue occurring while driving. I am disappointed with Nissan's response to my concerns and their inability to resolve the issue. I urge caution to those considering purchasing a Rogue Sport and suggest exploring other options. It is important to feel confident in the safety of your vehicle and the support of the manufacturer.

  4. Reese Bogisich 2024-08-29

    Vehicle year: 2017

I purchased this car in February 2018. While the LED headlights are great, I have had some issues with it. Unfortunately, Nissan USA and the local dealership did not respond to my complaints. The road noise is excessive, making it difficult to hear the warning beeps for the blind spot or lane departure even with the radio off. The Intelligent Lane Intervention feature is not reliable and can be unsafe. It sometimes misses the lane departure without warning and wanders too far over the lane before reacting. I notified Nissan USA and the local dealership of this defect in writing, but never received a response. The Econ button is located below the dash and has to be activated every time when starting the car, which can be inconvenient. The

Although I appreciate having a car to drive, I must admit that I miss my 2017 Escape more than I thought I would. The speakers in the Rogue Sport are not great, the acceleration is subpar, and the technology is minimal. Even the gas refueling process is a bit annoying, as I have to push a button inside the car to open the gas tank and then unscrew the cap. I wanted to share my thoughts on this car because it's really not my favorite, and I'm not enjoying driving it. However, I do recognize that this may be the base model, and my Ford Escape is not, so that could be making a difference. Nonetheless, the features on this car are pretty lackluster, even for a base model.

Just purchased a used 2019 rogue sport with only 1000 miles. It's a great vehicle to drive, but the back seats could be more comfortable as they don't have much cushioning.

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that the car you're interested in has a really smooth ride and handles great in the snow, even with the stock tires. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I love this car. It drives smoothly, but I wish it had more bells and whistles.

Great little SUV! It has a slightly underpowered engine, but the looks, fit and finish are impressive and well above some of the competition. The 360 degree monitor is a phenomenal feature and it makes parking in tight spaces a breeze. Mine is the SV trim with the all weather and technology package. The heated steering wheel is an awesome feature. The seats are supportive without being overly firm and the cabin is extremely quiet for a vehicle in the class. I will definitely be financing it once my lease is over. This one is a keeper!
