2013 Nissan Nv problems

nissan logo

The Nissan NV (Nissan Van) is a full-size van produced by Nissan from 2011 to 2021. It was developed and marketed for the United States and Canada, where Nissan had not previously been present in the full-size segment. Until the introduction of the Nissan NV, Mexico was the only country in North America selling a full-size Nissan van, as the Nissan Urvan was sold there.

The NV nameplate was previously used by a small pickup truck sold in Thailand.

Development

The NV used the same F-Alpha platform as does the Nissan Titan full-size pickup, but due to the need for a flat loading floor it is highly modified and they end up sharing mainly powertrain pieces and some of the design language. The NV was also only available with rear-wheel drive, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission (later also a seven-speed). The NV was not targeted directly at the (mainly fleet) buyers of the Ford E-Series and Chevrolet Express, but rather at private buyers including contractors and small business owners who are looking for a vehicle that is both capable and comfortable.

The 4.0-litre V6 engine outputs 261 hp (195 kW) and 281 lb⋅ft (381 N⋅m) of torque, while the 5.6-litre V8 engine outputs 375 hp (280 kW) and 387 lb⋅ft (525 N⋅m) of torque. The V8-engined versions are also electronically limited to a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).

Common 2013 Nissan Nv problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2013 Nissan NV200, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Tire Wear Issues: Owners have experienced premature tire wear, with tires needing replacement at low mileage, such as 25,000 miles. Complaints include cupping and uneven wear, leading to unexpected expenses and safety concerns. The suspension design has been highlighted as a contributing factor to these tire problems.
  2. Alignment Problems: The 2013 model year has been associated with alignment issues, leading to uneven tire wear and alignment-related safety concerns. Owners have reported issues with tires leaning in at the top, indicating alignment problems that affect tire longevity and vehicle stability.
  3. Transmission Malfunctions: Some owners have reported transmission problems, including issues with gear changes when the vehicle is cold. Instances of the transmission not shifting properly, even after warming up the vehicle, have been noted. These transmission issues can lead to driving difficulties and potential safety hazards.
  4. Suspension Concerns: Inherent suspension problems have been reported by owners, affecting the vehicle's handling and ride quality. Complaints about rear tires wearing out on the insides and cupping have been linked to suspension issues, highlighting potential safety risks and the need for corrective measures.
  5. OCS Recalls: The Occupant Classification Systems (OCS) in certain 2013 Nissan NV200 models have been subject to recalls due to faulty sensors that may incorrectly classify occupants, leading to airbag deployment issues. These recalls emphasize the importance of addressing safety-related defects promptly to ensure passenger protection in the event of a collision.

These common problems reported by owners of the 2013 Nissan NV200 highlight various safety, reliability, and performance issues that have affected the driving experience and ownership satisfaction of this particular model year.

What is the recall on the 2013 Nissan NV?

Nissan is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 NV vehicles manufactured from December 20, 2010, through January 4, 2013 and are equipped with steering column-mounted transmission shift levers. The transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip may have been installed incorrectly.

Why did they stop making Nissan NV?

The decision to stop production comes as Nissan shared that sales did not reach market share goals. Enterprise Fleet Management recommends that clients using these impacted Nissan models work to place orders to meet Nissan's deadline or to consider other comparable vehicle options.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2012-2017 NV Cargo and NV Passenger Van, 2013-2015 Titan and Armada and 2011-2012 Infiniti QX56 vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the air bag inflator may not function properly or may rupture during deployment.
  • Consequence: An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driver air bag inflators, free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or Infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

  • Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
  • Summary: Nissan is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 NV vehicles manufactured from December 20, 2010, through January 4, 2013 and are equipped with steering column-mounted transmission shift levers. The transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip may have been installed incorrectly. As a result, normal road vibration may cause the gear position indicator to not match the gear shift lever position.
  • Consequence: As a consequence of the incorrect display, although the gear indicator may display that the vehicle is in Park, the vehicle may not be properly secured allowing the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, increasing the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will correct the installation of the transmission lever gear selector plate lock clip, free of charge. The recall began on April 15, 2013. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261.

Chemicals used in the manufacturing of the shift lever assembly may result in the malfunction of the brake shift interlock allowing the transmission shift lever to be shifted out of Park without depressing the brake pedal.
  • Consequence: If the vehicle is unintentionally shifted out of park, it could roll away and lead to personal injury or a vehicle crash.
  • Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will remedy the vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on April 15, 2013. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service at 1-800-647-7261.

Negative 2013 Nissan Nv car reviews

  1. Sofia McGlynn 2024-09-17

Although we had a negative experience with our previous truck due to persistent electronic problems, we were fortunate to have a dealer who worked with us to find a better solution. We are now driving a used Sprinter high top, which has already proven to be an improvement.

Positive 2013 Nissan Nv car reviews

  1. Jimmy Gutkowski 2024-05-24

When it came to choosing a cargo van, I did my research and looked at various options such as the Promaster, Transit, and Sprinter, both new and used. After careful consideration, I decided on a used 2013 NV2500 high roof v6 SV with 73K, now 109K. For me, reliability was the most important factor, and I found that buying a used NV was still a more reliable option than buying any of the other three new. I took the time to read real consumer reviews from people who have lived with these vans for years, rather than just relying on professional car journalists who test them for a day. It was clear to me that the Promaster and Transit had significant issues, while the Sprinter was more expensive and offered less. Whenever I see a fellow cargo van owner in a parking lot, I always ask them what they think of their vehicle, and I've learned a lot from these conversations. In my experience, the NV has been incredibly reliable, with only a few minor maintenance items needed such as a belt idler pulley, accessory belt, air filter, and oil changes. It has great heat in the winter and great A/C in the summer, and I can even stand up in the rear. It's so convenient that I use it as both my work vehicle and my everyday car. I've towed up to 6K pounds and barely noticed the weight. My usual cargo is about 1500 pounds, and even with that weight, I still get 20mpg on the highway. The SV version also has some nice upgrades such as cruise control and audio controls on the steering wheel. Overall, I've been extremely satisfied with my NV and have never had a vehicle that I could drive for 6 hours without any discomfort.I recently made some modifications to my van, including installing a factory leather steering wheel, adding a 'double' seat from the rear of a Transit to the front (which now allows for 3 across seating), and extending the overhead front shelf by about 2ft to add more storage space. The van is easy to maintain, with a large engine bay and hood that make checking fluids, changing oil, and replacing belts a breeze. While the van may look a bit long and unusual, the benefits of the modifications far outweigh the downsides. I typically get 20mpg on the highway and 15mpg in the city, although traffic congestion can sometimes affect my fuel efficiency. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase and would buy again if I needed another van. It's worth noting that the NV1500/2500/3500 may no longer be available after 2021. As of June 2021, my van has 120K miles and I have not experienced any issues since my last review, although I do have a slow leak in the differential that I have yet to resolve.

2012 sv2500 high roof 5.6 V8 with all the options. It's got great leg room and is the most comfortable truck I have ever owned. The inside is insulated and paneled. The fuel mileage isn't the best, but if you try to drive for the best fuel mileage, you can get up to 13.2 mpg with hand calculations.
