2017 Nissan Nv problems
The Nissan NV (Nissan Van) is a full-size van produced by Nissan from 2011 to 2021. It was developed and marketed for the United States and Canada, where Nissan had not previously been present in the full-size segment. Until the introduction of the Nissan NV, Mexico was the only country in North America selling a full-size Nissan van, as the Nissan Urvan was sold there.
The NV nameplate was previously used by a small pickup truck sold in Thailand.
Development
The NV used the same F-Alpha platform as does the Nissan Titan full-size pickup, but due to the need for a flat loading floor it is highly modified and they end up sharing mainly powertrain pieces and some of the design language. The NV was also only available with rear-wheel drive, coupled to a five-speed automatic transmission (later also a seven-speed). The NV was not targeted directly at the (mainly fleet) buyers of the Ford E-Series and Chevrolet Express, but rather at private buyers including contractors and small business owners who are looking for a vehicle that is both capable and comfortable.
The 4.0-litre V6 engine outputs 261 hp (195 kW) and 281 lb⋅ft (381 N⋅m) of torque, while the 5.6-litre V8 engine outputs 375 hp (280 kW) and 387 lb⋅ft (525 N⋅m) of torque. The V8-engined versions are also electronically limited to a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).

Common 2017 Nissan Nv problems
The 2017 Nissan NV has been reported to have issues with the transmission, particularly slipping out of gear, losing power, and revving up the engine sporadically at both city speeds and on the highway. This problem seems to be related to the transmission's inability to handle the heavier weight of the NV, which is causing it to slip out of gear and lose power. The issue has not been officially recognized by Nissan, and dealership mechanical shops are working on solutions, but there has been no corporate response so far. Owners of 2017 NVs are growing increasingly upset, and it is recommended to join the Nissan NV Families Facebook group for more information before purchasing a 2017 or older model.
Additionally, the 2016 Nissan NV Cargo has been identified as the worst year for the Nissan NV Cargo, with substantial engine issues, roof leaks, body and paint troubles, seat belt/airbag issues, and brake troubles. These problems can lead to a frustrating and expensive ownership experience. It is recommended to avoid the 2016 model and opt for a more reliable year instead.
The Nissan NV Cargo has also been reported to have common issues across all years, including trouble with leaks, faults with the braking system, electrical issues, and a lack of enough cargo space. It is essential to keep an eye out for these issues when considering a Nissan NV Cargo, regardless of the year.

- VIN: 5BZAF0AA3HN
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: On July 4, 2023 I was backing out of a driveway and put my vehicle back into Drive. A piece out of the steering column fell at my feet. I pulled back into the driveway and could not get the vehicle to shift into park to be able to remove the keys from the ignition. We used the emergency brake. The cover had to be removed from the column and a piece was found to have stripped. We made a makeshift piece to hold it together to shift the vehicle into park and remove the keys. The white piece in the picture had a steel bolt that had stripped the aluminum housing threads and both had fallen out. They helped control the shifting. Nissan was contacted and they agreed to cover half of the repair. This should have been completely covered since it is not an item that can be covered by a warranty and never should have failed in the first place.
