Common 2011 Mini Cooper countryman problems

The 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. One of the most prevalent issues is engine misfiring, which was experienced by a user just two weeks after purchasing the car. This problem can be caused by various factors, such as faulty spark plugs or ignition coils.

Another common issue reported is related to the electrical system. One owner mentioned that the electrical system blew out soon after purchasing the car. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty battery, alternator, or wiring issues.

A squealing noise coming from the engine compartment is also a common problem reported by Mini Cooper Countryman owners. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty serpentine belt, pulley, or tensioner.

Interior quality issues are also prevalent in the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman. One owner reported that the cupholders and mirror fell apart within a year of ownership. This issue can be caused by poor quality materials or subpar manufacturing processes.

Transmission problems are also common in the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman. Numerous models are susceptible to transmission issues, including abnormal noises, delayed shifting, excessive vibrations, and acceleration jumps. These issues can be caused by various factors, including low transmission fluid levels, faulty solenoids, or worn-out clutch plates.

Oil leaks are another noteworthy problem with the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman. Unlike common oil leaks, this issue is hard to detect outside the car, as the internal oil leak drips through the wiring sheath and may reach the electronic control unit (ECU), resulting in a short circuit and severe damage.

Finally, engine overheating is a significant issue reported by Mini Cooper Countryman owners. The 2012 model, in particular, has been reported to have an engine that tends to overheat, causing symptoms like illuminated check engine lights, coolant leakage, blown head gaskets, etc.. This issue is caused by faulty core plugs and coolant leaks.

In summary, the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman has several common problems, including engine misfiring, electrical system failures, squealing noises from the engine compartment, interior quality issues, transmission problems, oil leaks, and engine overheating. These issues can be caused by various factors, including faulty parts, subpar manufacturing processes, and poor maintenance.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-09-06
  • VIN: WMWZB3C54BW
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: The footwell control module has failed in my Mini which was discovered when it went in for service due to a multitude of dash lights coming on at start up and issues with getting the car to start. I was getting dash lights for to warn that the headlight control motors were off and then the headlights began to flicker around and then shut themselves off, the ABS brake system was off, traction control was off, the AC temperature was not holding a temperature and instead would swing constantly, and I would get a clicking noise in the passenger dash area when it failed to start. When it went in for service, they found that footwell control module was corroded due to water infiltration at some point. Previous to this, I had had an issue with water getting into the floorboards after heavy rains, contacting my local Mini dealership, I was informed to check the drain lines on the sunroofs of my car as this can become clogged and cause water to come into the interior of the car. These drain lines are known to introduce water to the location of the footwell control module to the point that other models of this same year have already had a recall.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-06-16
  • VIN: WMWZC5C51BW
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: A JUNE 2016 LEAK IN THE OIL PUMP SOLENOID VALVE RESULTED IN REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE DME (INCLUDING PROGRAMMING) AND THE ENGINE HARNESS. THIS ISSUE PRESENTED A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND RESULTED IN EXTREME SLUGGISHNESS OF THE ACCELERATOR. SAFECAR.GOV IDENTIFIED MINI SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETINS THAT ADDRESS THE LEAK FROM THE SOLENOID AS EARLY AS 2012. MORE THAN ONE SERVICE BULLETIN (SI M11 01 12 DATED 6/2012, 1/2013, 1/2014) WERE MADE AVAILABLE TO DEALERSHIPS THAT OUTLINED THE PROBLEM AND REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE. SINCE THIS ISSUE PRESENTS SAFETY PROBLEMS WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, WE ASSERT THE PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROACTIVELY FIXED. SINCE MINI USA HAS NOT DONE SO, THERE SHOULD BE A GOVERNMENT RECALL TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE, WHEN THE PROBLEM MANIFESTED IN OUR CAR WE WERE EXPECTED TO COVER THE REPAIR COST. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO US SINCE THE DEALERSHIP KNEW ABOUT YET WAS NOT PROACTIVE IN PREVENTING THE SAFETY ISSUE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT WHEN WE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REIMBURSED LESS THAN HALF OF THE REPAIR COSTS.

NOR DID THEY SUBSEQUENTLY EMAIL IT TO US AS REQUESTED. IN ADDITION, WE REQUESTED THE SAME DOCUMENTATION ON THE MINI USA WEBSITE AT MINIUSA.COM AND IT WAS NOT FORTHCOMING AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS. • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MINI COOPER COUNTRYMAN. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT FELT THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFT. IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FUNCTIONED INDEPENDENTLY AND DIFFERENT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-06-02
  • VIN: WMWZB3C59BW
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: REFERENCE MY CALL IN REPORT REF. # 10598125: THE "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" LIGHT (LOCATED IN THE OVERHEAD CONSOLE) REMAINS ILLUMINATED AFTER THE SYSTEM DOES IT'S INITIAL CHECK AT START UP. IF ANYONE SITS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE LIGHT GOES OUT. THE SYSTEM DID NOT OPERATE THIS WAY UNTIL THE CAR REACHED APPROXIMATELY 15,000 MILES. ORIGINALLY THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AT START UP THEN GO OUT. AFTER CHECKING SEVERAL OWNER BLOGS ONLINE, I FOUND OUT THAT ALL OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING A DEFINITIVE EXPLANATION FROM THEIR DEALERS. SOME DEALERS REPAIRED THE ISSUE BY REPLACING THE SEAT PAN SENSOR OR REPAIRING THE UNDER SEAT CONNECTOR. SOME DEALERS HAVE SAID THE CONDITION IS NORMAL. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY DEALER, "SOUTH MINI OF MIAMI" AND WAS INITIALLY TOLD THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM AND SCHEDULED THE CAR FOR TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR. AFTER THE SCHEDULED SERVICE, I WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM WAS CHECKED AND THAT ALL COMPONENTS WERE OPERATIONAL AND NOTHING WAS FAULTY. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE LIGHT REMAINING ON WITHOUT A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT WAS NORMAL. MY CONCERN IS THAT NONE OF THE USA MINI DEALERSHIPS CAN DEFINITIVELY EXPLAIN THE CORRECT OPERATION OF THE SYSTEM OR WHY IT SUDDENLY STARTED WORKING IN A DIFFERENT WAY. IT CAN'T BE CORRECT BOTH WAYS; IT WAS EITHER FAULTY FOR THE FIRST 15,000 MILES OR IT IS FAULTY NOW. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH SEVERAL MINI COOPERS AND SOME BMW MODELS. I BELIEVE FURTHER INVESTIGATION IS WARRANTED GIVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE "SMART AIRBAG SYSTEM" . *TR

TIRES,WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-03-07
  • VIN: WMWZC5C5XBW
  • Components: TIRES,WHEELS
  • Summary: AT A WARRANTY SERVICE FOR AN EXTERIOR TRIM ITEM, THE MINI TECH WENT TO VERIFY MY MILEAGE AND ALSO EXAMINED MY RUN-FLAT TIRES IN DETAIL (GOODYEAR 225/45 R18 EFFICIENT GRIP). HE ADVISED THAT TWO TIRES HAD DEFECTIVE SIDEWALLS AND SAID THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE EVEN RECOMMENDED A DIFFERENT BRAND. THE TIRES WERE UNDER WARRANTY AND I REALLY HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO HAVE THEM REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY TERMS. BECAUSE IT WAS AN AWD VEHICLE, I CHOSE ALSO TO HAVE ALL FOUR REPLACED. 4000 MILES LATER, I NOTICED A SIDEWALL BULGE ON ONE OF MY FRONT TIRES. I COMPLAINED TO MINI THAT THE TIRES THEY WERE PROVIDING WERE DEFECTIVE AND HAD I THOUGHT MORE ABOUT THE MINI TECH'S ACTIONS IN THE BEGINNING, I WOULD HAVE SUSPECTED THAT MINI WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AT THE OUTSET. MINI USA RESPONSE WAS AS EXPECTED, GIVING ME A LECTURE ON WHAT CAUSES A TIRE TO WEAR AND FAIL ETC., AND ADVISED THE PROBLEM WAS BETWEEN ME AND GOODYEAR. I TOLD THEM THAT THEIR RESPONSE WAS NOT ADEQUATE AND I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY, WHICH I DID. MY SITUATION CONCERNS ME. I NOTICED ON-LINE THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT RUN-FLAT TECHNOLOGY AND WONDER IF THIS IS A FAULTY CONCLUSION THAT THE WEIGHT SAVED BY ELIMINATING SPARE TIRES, JACKS, ETC JUSTIFIES THE GAS CONSUMPTION OBJECTIVES. I AM NOT SURPRISED HOW "STAND-OFF-ISH" THE TIRE DEALER AND MINI ARE, SIMPLY BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE TO BOOT. *TR

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-09-14
  • VIN: WMWZB3C55BW
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY,ENGINE
  • Summary: THE 2011 MINI COOPER COUNTRYMAN HAS A POORLY DESIGNED CUP HOLDER THAT PUNCTURES CUPS CAUSING LIQUID TO LEAK. THIS CUP HOLDER IS NOT PROPERLY SEALED AND ALLOWS FLUID (CONDENSATION) INTO THE GEARSHIFT ASSEMBLY. THIS CAUSES THE INABILITY TO SHIFT GEARS PROPERLY. IT WILL ALSO CAUSE THE KEY TO BE STUCK IN THE IGNITION. MINI WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE LABOR TO FIX THE ISSUE AND WILL ALSO NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM FROM RECURRING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS WELL AS A VERY EXPENSIVE FIX FOR THE CONSUMER. WHEN I CALLED MINI USA THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS LANGUAGE IN THE MANUAL THAT PROVIDED A WARNING ABOUT WHAT CUPS WERE APPROPRIATE BUT I FOUND NO SUCH LANGUAGE. THERE WAS BARELY A REFERENCE TO THE CUP HOLDERS. THEY MAY HAVE UPDATED THEIR MANUAL SINCE I PURCHASED MY CAR BUT MINE DID NOT HAVE ANY REFERENCE TO SUCH A PROBLEM. *TR

  • VIN: WMWZC5C56BW
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH WHEN I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD AND FOUND FLAMES IN THE ENGINE BAY. I DIDN'T HAVE AN EXTINGUISHER IN THE CAR AND THERE WASN'T A HOSE IN SIGHT, SO IT BURNED FOR A FEW MINS BEFORE A BYSTANDER STOPPED AND GAVE ME AN EXTINGUISHER. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME SHORTLY AFTER AND DOUSED THE STILL SMOLDERING ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH WATER. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON IN THE DASHBOARD BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THIS FIRE. MY COUNTRYMAN, BUILT IN APRIL 2011 AND PURCHASED IN MAY, HAS ABOUT 5700 MILES ON IT AND HAS OTHERWISE HAD NO PROBLEMS. MY RESEARCH ONLINE INDICATES THAT OTHER MINI MODELS (COOPER S, CLUBMAN) HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, AND THAT THE NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING SOME OF THESE. PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING THE COUNTRYMAN TO YOUR INVESTIGATION OF MINI SPONTANEOUS ENGINE FIRES. *TR

  • VIN: WMWZC3C53BW
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
  • Summary: WE PURCHASED A BRAND NEW MINI COOPER COUNTRYMAN IN EARLY AUGUST 2011. HOWEVER, BY AUGUST 24,2011. WE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING. WE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY AGREED THAT THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING AND CHANGED THE BACK BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS AND WE EVENTUALLY HAD TO GO BACK THE SECOND TIME BECAUSE THE GRINDING WAS STILL THERE; THEN THEY CHANGED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS & ROTORS. HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT HELP THE ISSUE. THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO HAVE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND WE WENT BACK THE THIRD TIME WITH THE DEALERSHIP OFFERING THAT THEY HAVE SOMEONE IN THE FACTORY VISITING THE SHOWROOM AND WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THE BRAKES AGAIN BUT AFTER THEIR THIRD INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP REFUSE TO ASSIST FURTHER ON THIS ISSUE. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE CALIFORNIA STATE NEW VEHICLE BOARD WHO RECOMMENDED THAT WE MAKE A STATEMENT TO THE NHTSA. I FEEL THAT GRINDING BRAKES ARE A SAFETY CONCERN AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

Negative 2011 Mini Cooper countryman car reviews

  1. Kenyon Stamm 2024-10-09

I regret purchasing this car as it has required two trips to the shop within a month of purchase due to issues with the thermostat caging. Additionally, the front cup holders have plastic spikes that puncture styrofoam cups, causing liquid to spill into the shifter cables and resulting in the shifter getting stuck. Despite the fact that the cup holders were designed this way, the dealer and Mini USA held me responsible for the $900.00 repair cost. It is important for Mini Cooper owners to be aware of this issue and the potential expenses that may arise.

  2. Adolph Simonis 2024-08-23

This car is quite expensive and may not be the best choice for those looking for a practical SUV. The placement of the mirror controls, window switches, Sport Mode, ESP, and door lock buttons may not be the most intuitive. It can be difficult to operate these toggle switches without taking your eyes off the road. Additionally, the car can be quite noisy and bumpy. However, it can still be a fun and enjoyable ride for those who are looking for a toy car. Reliability may be a concern, but it ultimately depends on individual experiences.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car since January. Unfortunately, it has been in the shop three times due to check engine lights. The first time was at 2k, the second at 4k, and currently, it is in the shop at 7k. I have been informed that the parts are coming from Europe, so it may take from 5-10 days to get the necessary parts. I must admit, it has been frustrating, but I'm hopeful that everything will be resolved soon. If you're considering purchasing a car, I would recommend looking into other options for reliability.

The car is a blast to drive! It's especially great for those over 6 feet tall, as there's plenty of legroom. The sport mode is a real treat, giving you a fantastic exhaust note. And let's not forget the highlight of the car - the 6 speed Getrag transmission. While I haven't been able to achieve the advertised gas mileage, I must admit that my driving style may be partly to blame. The best I've achieved is 25 MPG, which is not bad, but not great either. One thing to note is that the steering is fantastic, but it can be a bit disconcerting if you hit a rut in the road. However, I've never lost control, even on some of the rougher roads in Southern California. Overall, it's a great car that's sure to put a smile on your face!

Positive 2011 Mini Cooper countryman car reviews

The All4 Countryman is my fourth vehicle, although it's not your typical SUV. It's more like a 4-door Mini with all-wheel drive, making it a rally car at heart. The all-wheel drive system is smart and only engages when necessary, rather than being a full-time 4-wheel drive system that the driver can control. This car may not be the best choice for those seeking a traditional SUV, but for those who want a smaller, sportier vehicle that's designed for the driver and is an absolute joy to drive, the Countryman is the perfect choice.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I drove this car during the blizzard at 70 Mph and I never felt so secure. The car is driving very well in all weather conditions and feels very stable at any speed.

This is my second Mini that I've owned and I must say, it's a fun car to drive! The Countryman S is roomy enough for four people and it's incredibly fast, especially in curves. It's also super agile and easy to maneuver in town, making it a breeze to park. I've owned two Minis and have had no reliability issues with either of them. Although my Clubman got better gas mileage (28 city and 37 hwy), the Countryman S is still a great choice. The ride can be a bit rough, especially on city streets in West Virginia where I live, but that's to be expected from a sports car. The interior layout of controls could be better, but it has been improved in 2014 and later models. Overall, I really like all Minis and have had no problems with mine even after 35000 miles.
