Common Mercury Mariner hybrid problems
The Mercury Mariner, a compact SUV produced by Ford Motor Company, has been known to have several issues, particularly with its transmission and hybrid propulsion system.
Transmission Problems:
The Mercury Mariner has faced significant transmission problems, with the 2006 model year being the worst for transmission issues.
Hybrid Propulsion System Recall:
The Mercury Mariner hybrid electric vehicles from model years 2005-2008 were recalled due to a coolant pump failure in the hybrid system, which could result in the hybrid electronics overheating.
Visibility Recall:
The Mercury Mariner was also affected by a recall for windshield wiper motor issues. Certain trucks, passenger cars, and sport utility vehicles, including the Mercury Mariner, were found to have windshield wiper motors that may have been produced without grease being applied to the output shaft gear.
In summary, the Mercury Mariner has faced significant issues with its transmission and hybrid propulsion system, leading to recalls and numerous complaints from owners. These issues can result in costly repairs and may affect the vehicle's safety and reliability.

How many miles will a 2009 Mercury Mariner last?
We had this car last us over 300,000 miles. We put it through a lot of work in a decade because we were a single-car family and made quite a few road trips in it around the country. We had to replace the transmission around 220,000 miles and did some front end work after that.
When did they stop making Mercury Mariner?
2011
For the 2011 model year, the Mariner featured HD Radio as a standard, but continued with the same features as the 2010 models. This version of the Mariner was its last, as Ford discontinued the Mercury brand due to declining sales. Ford ended production of the Mariner in October 2010.

- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- Date Complaint: 2024-02-04
- VIN: 4M2CN9HG9AK
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The power steering assist is malfunctioning and it is available for inspection upon request. The steering wheel is very difficult to turn, it's as if the power steering assist is keeping the wheel from turning. No, but I spoke to someone at Ford and they said that it sounded like my car should be in the recall that was announced for my vehicle type but my VIN was not included in the recall. My car has not been inspected by anyone but it says right on the dash board digital display that there is a "Power Steering Assist Fault". Ford does this with many vehicles they recall, a lot of vehicles that should be included in the recalls are not and we're supposed to foot the bill for their lack of concern for public safety? It's going to cause an accident but it's my only working car and I can't afford to pay for their mistakes. How many have died due to their negligence I'm wondering.

- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I recently purchase 2010 Mercury Mariner. There is a few errors appearing on the screen in front of the steering wheel. One of the error is "CHECK FUEL LINES." It also has an error about the tire pressure sensor. It also rides roughly, but the wheels are like new, so it feels like the suspension or shocks have something wrong with them. Also, there is a lot of play in the steering wheel when driving it. When I went to check on the recalls in the system by putting in my VIN, it shows that there are no recalls on my vehicle. However, these errors and issues are connected to the recalls for my vehicle. I am sure that these recalls have not been taken care of for this vehicle and they need to be fixed.

- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-14
- Date Complaint: 2022-06-05
- VIN: 4M2CN8B78AK
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: When the weather is hot (close to 100 degrees or more) and I am driving with the a/c - my vehicle on 3 occasions will not start after parking the vehicle and trying to restart it. The red padlock sign blinks and it won't start. At first it is trying to turnover but then will continually sound worse and all other warning lights go haywire. I leave the car alone for half a day and it starts up again like nothing happened. On the fourth occasion, the car stopped while driving, just a quiet shutdown and the car glided. This time it did not work for over 24 hours and then started up again like nothing happened. Multiple mechanics and also the dealership cannot figure out the problem because by the time i have it towed to shop, it works again. They did a full check on the car and cannot find anything wrong and there were no diagnostic codes. This issue happens when the weather is hot and poses a safety concern as now it is shutting off while driving and I become stranded each time. (First incident happened 8/25/18, last incident 5/14/22) Total of 4.

I researched this vehicle for over 6 months. After so much anticipation, I wondered if it would live up to my expectations. However, I took the keys in Aug 07 and have never been happier. It surpassed my dreams! It's really fun to drive, but you do need to be watchful. I have scared folks when running on the electric motor, all you can hear are the tires on the ground, which can be a bit eerie. The kids tease me that it's quieter than the 'Barbie' Car! We even took it on a major vacation, driving 700 miles one way for 12 hours, and it did great, getting 31 mpg. It saved us 1/3 of the cost in gas compared to our Windstar, without losing any comfort. It handled the mountain curves with ease. The navigation system was helpful, but it gave warnings in some areas. Overall, I think Ford has outdone themselves with this one!

I sold my Hummer H-3 and bought the Mercury Hybrid with 4-wheel drive. It gets twice the mileage and I can see the other cars better. It's not great off-road, but surprisingly quick on the street. My old black lab finds it easier to hop into the back. So far, I haven't had any problems. I got 30+ MPG on my last fill-up. Overall, it's a really nice truck!

This is my 5th SUV/truck, and I absolutely love driving it! It's hard to believe that it's made by Ford. The only issue I've had is that it's so quiet when driving in a parking lot that no one hears me coming.

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you were searching for a good value in a used Hybrid car and were concerned about performance, price, and reliability. I did some research on this car and was very impressed with its performance, handling, features, and style. If you're interested, I highly recommend taking one for a drive and seeing what I mean. I also have a Fusion that I like, but this car has been a great choice! It performs like a powerful 6 cyl, but gets 30+ MPG combined mileage (my real experience). It's also very comfortable and gets positive comments from my family and friends, who think it looks like a new car!

I really like my mariner so far. It has good power and is smooth, making it fun to drive at freeway speeds. The audio system sounds pretty good, depending on the quality of your CDs and MP3s. Although I'm not sure if it's an option or not, it would be nice to have an outside temperature gauge. Best of all, it gets 30 MPG even though I have a bit of a lead foot.

I'm glad I found this SUV because it met all my needs perfectly. It has great fuel economy, four-wheel-drive, and is still spacious enough for me and my belongings. Although, I must admit that the ride can be a bit bumpy and there is some engine, wind, and road noise. The exterior styling may not be the most exciting, and the interior materials could be of better quality. I'm currently getting around 30 MPG in the winter and 35 MPG in the summer (mostly highway driving), which is impressive. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, but I think there are other cars out there that are more comfortable and almost as fuel-efficient, such as the Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, or even a new 2012 Ford Focus. What do you think?

The price was $33K, but I did manage to get 5 years of 0% financing. It's important to remember to change the oil, filters, and headlight bulbs periodically, but overall I've had no major issues in the 12 years that I've owned it, despite putting 96K miles on it.

The vehicle's Nav/radio system has some issues that need to be addressed. Despite being advertised as Satellite capable and MP3 compatible, it does not function as expected. Additionally, the Nav system is not user-friendly and lacks accuracy. These issues are disappointing, especially considering the $3700 price tag for this TECHIE Vehicle. However, Ford provided a solution by offering an aftermarket Satellite radio that was attached to the dash with Velcro. While the sound quality was not great, it was a helpful alternative. It's worth noting that the vehicle does not have auto headlamps or an outside temperature gauge. Overall, there is room for improvement in this vehicle's technology features.

I drive 2500-3000 miles a month. It works well for all the city driving that I do. It has enough room for my dogs and stuff in the back, and it's comfortable to ride in. It's a very functional car for me, even though it's not necessarily a 'fun' car.
