The Infiniti G Line is a series of compact executive cars manufactured and marketed by Infiniti, a luxury division of Nissan, for the 1991–1996 and 1999–2016 model years — across four generations.

The first two generations of the Infiniti G (P10 and P11) were sedans based on the Nissan Primera. Beginning with its third generation (V35), the Infiniti G have been rebadged versions of the Nissan Skyline line of sedans and coupes that were exported to the United States and Canada. The fourth generation (V36) introduced the hardtop coupe convertible. The Nissan FM platform, used with the third and fourth generations (V35 and V36) of the Infiniti G, also underpins the Nissan 370Z and has shared components with the Infiniti M, Infiniti EX, and Infiniti FX.

Infiniti established a new naming convention beginning with the 2014 model year; all passenger cars are designated by the letter "Q," while sport-utility model names begin with "QX." The Infiniti G was to have been replaced by the Infiniti Q50, but the G37 was revived as the Q40 beginning with the 2015 model year.

Common 2002 Infiniti G35 problems

The Infiniti G35, introduced in 2002, is a mid-size sedan known for its performance and luxury features. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners.

  • Airbag Light Illumination: Another common problem with the Infiniti G35 is the airbag light illuminating and refusing to turn off. This issue has been reported by several owners, with some stating that the light has been on for three years despite recall repairs.
  • Engine Stalling: Some owners have reported that their Infiniti G35's engine stalls while the car is parked and in motion. This issue is often accompanied by the check engine light illuminating, indicating a problem with the crankshaft and crank sensors.
  • Excessive Brake System Noise and Seizing: The brake system of the Infiniti G35 has also been reported to have issues. Some owners have reported excessive noise from the brake system, as well as the brakes seizing up, making it difficult to stop the vehicle safely.
  • Exterior Lighting: The exterior lighting of the Infiniti G35 has also been reported to have issues. Some owners have reported that their third brake light fails while the car is in motion, making it difficult for other drivers to see the car when it is braking. This issue has been reported to occur repeatedly, even after replacement.
  • Crankshaft and Cam Sensors: The crankshaft and cam sensors of the Infiniti G35 have been reported to have manufacturing errors, causing the engine to stop running abruptly. Nissan has issued a recall for some of the affected model years, and dealers may replace the faulty part along with the variable timing control sensor, depending on the sedan's model year.
  • Ignition Coils: The ignition coils of the Infiniti G35 have also been reported to have issues. If the DTC P0300 lights up, it means that the ignition coils are malfunctioning, and the spark plugs need to be replaced. This issue can be fixed by taking the car to a shop and paying around $200 or by following the DIY approach using the DTC P0300 guide.
  • Oxygen Sensor Heating Element: The oxygen sensor heating element of the Infiniti G35 has also been reported to have issues. If the DTC P0307 lights up, it means that there is a problem with the oxygen sensor heating element. This issue can be fixed by taking the car to a shop and paying around $150-$300.

In conclusion, while the Infiniti G35 is a reliable vehicle, it is not immune to common problems. Owners have reported issues with the engine electrical system, airbag light illumination, engine stalling, excessive brake system noise and seizing, exterior lighting, crankshaft and cam sensors, ignition coils, and oxygen sensor heating element. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2012-10-02
  • VIN: JNKDA31A52T
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: DURING MY EVENING DRIVE HOME ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY / TOLL ROAD I SMELLED A STRONG PUNGENT BURNT OIL SMELL THRU THE AIR VENTS. AS I WAS AT THE END OF MY COMMUTE I PARKED THE CAR AND NOTED OIL DRIPPING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT AREA OF THE CAR. AFTER IT COOLED OFF I TRACED THE LEAK TO A POWER STEERING LINE UP HIGH AT THE BULKHEAD. I PULLED THE OUTER CHAFE GUARD BACK AND ADDITIONAL POWER STEERING FLUID POURED OUT ONTO THE GROUND. THE RIGHT SIDE BULKHEAD AREA WAS SOAKED IN POWER STEERING FLUID. THE ENTIRE AREA WAS BATHED IN FLUID HOWEVER THE OUTER CHAFE GUARD ON THE HOSE ACTED AS A BARRIER TO PREVENT THE HOSE FROM SPRAYING POTENTIALLY COMBUSTIBLE POWER STEERING FLUID ONTO THE REAR BANK EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE NEXT DAY I REPLACED THE HOSE. I HAVE RETAINED THE OLD HOSE IF NEEDED FOR INSPECTION. IT APPEARS TO BE LEAKING AT THE METAL CRIMP. THIS SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE ACURA AND HONDA ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE IS A ONE OWNER VEHICLE, MANUFACTURED NOVEMBER 2001 AND PURCHASED NEW MARCH 2003. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD COLLISION DAMAGE, IS VERY CLEAN AND WELL CARED FOR. IT IS DRIVEN AS A DAILY COMMUTER VEHICLE. *TR

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 1997-05-10
  • VIN: JNKCV51E13M
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: I HAVE A G35 2003 AND HAD TO REPLACE THE RADIO 28041-AM883 CIRCUIT BOARD ON 5/10/07 (IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT THAT TIME). ALSO, WHEN I WAS TRAVELING UP NORTH THE CAR WOULD NOT START LAST WINTER I TOOK IT TO A INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DISCONNECTED THE RADIO - CHARGE THE BATTERY - AND IT WORKS FINE NOW. TODAY 06/30/09 I AM HAVING EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DID IN 2007 - THE AIR IS RUNNING A FULL BLAST AND I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER IT OR MY RADIO. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AND INFINITI IS WILL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AS ARE ALL THE DEALERSHIP!! ALL THEY ARE DOING IS RAKING IN MORE MONEY FOR A DEFECTIVE PART - I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS CIRCUIT AND INFINITI SHOULD BE FINED!! *TR
