2017 Cadillac Escalade problems
The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury SUV manufactured by General Motors and marketed by their luxury division Cadillac. It was the luxury brand's first major entry into the SUV market. The Escalade was introduced for the 1999 model year in response to an influx of new luxury SUVs in the late 1990s such as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, Range Rover, Lexus LX, and (especially) Ford's 1998 debut of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project went into production only ten months after it was approved. The Escalade is built in Arlington, Texas. The term "escalade" refers to a siege warfare tactic of scaling defensive walls or ramparts with the aid of ladders or siege towers. More generally, it is a French word which is the noun-equivalent form of the French verb escalader, which means "to climb or scale".
The Escalade is currently sold in North America and select international markets (Europe and Asia) where Cadillac has official sales channels. The Escalade ESV (Escalade Stretch Vehicle) is sold in North America, Russia, and the Middle East, but is only available by special order in some international markets. The right-hand-drive Escalade and Escalade ESV are available through third-party conversion specialists without official agreement with Cadillac in Australian, Oceanic, and Japanese markets.
On August 8, 2023, GM unveiled the Escalade IQ, an all-electric version of the Escalade, and the third model in Cadillac's EV line, after the Celestiq, and Lyriq. It is expected to go on sale in late 2024 for the 2025 model year, with a starting price of $130,000.

- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I have a 2017 Cadillac Escalade that is all black. This vehicle is now sitting a 140,000 miles now. but before the 140,000 miles I was experiencing horrible peeling, and discoloration of the black paint on the hood, and roof of my vehicle. This particular issue should not be happening in such a highly luxury vehicle. I have driven Lexus, Nissan, and other vehicles, that are way older, im still possession of those vehicle, and still have not experienced such issues, with the paint or coating. This paint peeling and discoloration began well before the 140,000 miles. I want to say at about 90,000 miles I observed issues with the paint located on the top of my hood, and roof. I have also done research on the class action law suit for such issues as well. So I have seen I’m not the only person experiencing the paint discoloration or peeling problem

In looking online there is a recall with this exact issue that I’m having but it start at the 2018 model in which mine is a 2017. I feel the 2017 should also be part of the recall since I’m having the exact same issue.

I was really close to smashing into the back of a semi truck. There was no warning prior to it happening and my service advisor at the GM dealer said GM knew about the issue with the brakes and have not issued a recall in relation to the incident, ONLY a bulletin that it is to be covered if it breaks. However I could have died if I hit the semi considering I was going highway speeds. My vehicle is currently at the GM dealer and I have not heard back from them yet. As of now they have not inspected it and it is available for inspection if need be.

SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-11-07
- VIN: 1GYS3CKJ6HR
- Components: SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: •available for inspection. Unknown exact system failure •issue regularly occurs •dealership service. Transmission had to be replaced at around 10k miles and covered by warranty. •no lights indicating any problems. Forward collision alert activated. Vehicle has a lag between the time pressure is applied to the gas pedal and it causes a delay in acceleration resulting in the vehicle sort of lunging forward unexpectedly. About 15-20 seconds after the gas pedal is pressed it will have a sudden burst of quick acceleration. It only lasts a few seconds and there’s no time to correct the sudden acceleration by braking. I finally realized the seriousness of the issue after I very close to being in an accident today as a result of the delayed acceleration. I was stopped at a red light and pressed the gas once it turned green, another driver happened to change lanes as soon as we crossed the intersection, moving to the front of my vehicle, probably closer than they should have but more than able for me to react under normal circumstances if needed. However, it occurred at the same time my vehicle randomly had a burst of acceleration and I had to swerve into the next lane to avoid hitting the car, because I wasn’t expecting to speed forward and did not have time to correct by braking. It happens about 40% of the time when going over 15-20mph (estimate) after I come to a complete stop and then press the gas to begin moving again. For example it won’t do it if I’m letting off the break to movie forward at a stop sign or lines, etc. It only happens when I accelerate with the intention of being able to reach the posted speed limit before I’d need to make another stop. Stop lights are the primary issue, as well as when exiting somewhere to get back onto the road, for example the gas station.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-10
- VIN: 1GYS4CKJ9HR

The dealership has replaced the seat memory module, battery cables, fuse block and driver mirror. The dealership was unable to correct the issue and says there is nothing else they can do. The problem seems to occur wen the vehicle has been driving for 2 or more hours then goes away if the vehicle has sat for a few days.
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-15
- VIN: 1GYS4CKJ3HR
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: The contact owns a 2017 Cadillac Escalade. The contact stated that the vehicle would either fail to perform this function or would fail to readjust to its proper position once the vehicle was in drive(D). The contact also noted that the mirrors would also adjust upwards which obstructed the contact from using both side view mirrors while driving. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer where he was informed that a software update could be performed to correct the failure however, if the software update failed, the contact had to pay for the repair. The software update was performed; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-16
- VIN: 1GYS4HKJ4HR
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Purchased a new set of 4 in May of 2020 with 50,000 miles on the vehicle - just one year, 8 months ago and only 10k miles on the new set. Walked out yesterday morning and the RR tire was flat. Tried to add air and heard a rushing sound coming from the outside sidewall from a 3-4" broken, jagged slit. The car was driven yesterday and all was fine until it just blew. And no it was not cut by a ne'er do well overnight. The sidewall clearly failed as reported by so many with this Alenza tire. Many others were driving when the dangerous Alenza sidewall failed. I was lucky as we often drive this vehicle on Interstate highways...and it Texas that means 75 and 80 mph speed limits. I shudder to think what would have happened with a failing defected tire blowing at 80 mph!

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000. The VIN was unavailable.

- Summary: The brake assist function has been very sketchy and coming on unexpectedly and the emergency braking when reversing is malfunctioning and coming on unexpectedly with no need in error in a very hard/ fast stop. Yes its available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This puts my saftey as well as others at risk because the brake system is malfunctioning and at times unpredictable, and making quick/hard stops when not expected or necessary. The car was just in the dealership for repair of the break assist and I am sending it back in again because it is still malfunctioning. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership. The brake assist light was coming on and off , sometimes but not all of the time and now that the car was serviced by the dealership the light is not coming on but their are still malfunctions. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-26
- VIN: 1GYS3HKJ8HR
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I was travelling down the highway and the brakes failed to respond. I was able to deliver the car to a Cadillac dealer in Holland Michigan. At highway speeds with no breaks I believe my families lives were in danger. We have brought the car into the dealership multiple times for electrical system issues and I believe these unresolved issues have culminated in the failure of the braking system at high speeds. The dealer has stated that it was a vacuum pump and it has now been replaced but found no other issues with the electrical system. There was a warning light for the brake assist feature during the drive prior to the brakes not functioning. We reported this to the dealer during the drive and they made an appointment for the following Thursday (this was on a Saturday). We were not notified at the time of the call that this issue could put our lives in danger or that we should stop driving the car.

2017 Cadillac Escalade recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2017 Cadillac Escalade.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
- Consequence: As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.

Hi there! I just wanted to share that this is actually my second Escalade. I traded in my last 08 Escalade with over 240,000 miles on it, and it was still running great! I decided to upgrade to a 2017 Escalade, and so far, I've put almost 150,000 miles on it. The only issue I've had was with the touchscreen, which stopped working and unfortunately was out of warranty. But, I was able to order a replacement from an aftermarket company for about $150 and change it myself. Problem solved!
-
I finally got my caddy and I'm really satisfied with the dealer. It's comfortable to drive and has great fuel consumption compared to its peers (with V4 V8 shifting). Perfect for spring break!
-
In my opinion, the Escalade is a luxury truck. Despite some jitters from road bumps, engine drones, and the transmission drones under acceleration, the plush seats and upscale interior make for a comfortable ride. If you have ever owned a truck, you will appreciate its handling on every road condition. The Escalade makes a strong presence with its huge size, powerful engine, big LED taillights and headlights. Maneuvering into a normal parking spot can be a challenge, but the front, rear, and top-down view cameras do help with parking. I love the feature that vibrates your seat to warn you before you back into an obstacle. The audio system has clear sounds, and the interior is quiet enough even when blasting down the freeway at 80mph. The GPS and radio have a nice big screen, and the buttons are intuitive. The Escalade only lets you see small arrows and turn instructions on the dash and on the minimalist HUD display. The air-vented and massaging seat is a nice touch. The lane departure control that vibrates your seat as a warning is a nice touch. I appreciate your comparison between the Z06 Vette and the Escalade. It seems that you have a preference for European SUVs due to their refined interior. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
-
It's an amazing car.
-
Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that the ride is even better now. While it doesn't have the throaty exhaust, it actually makes it feel more like a car.

For years, our family has relied on Escalades as our go-to car for our three competitive cheerleader daughters, as we travel a lot. They are classy, stylish, comfortable, and easy to drive, making them pretty much perfect. However, we have been disappointed with the latest model due to its jerky and harsh gear changes, as well as occasional shaking. Despite taking it in for repairs several times, the process Cadillac requires is a joke, with no real solutions offered. It's frustrating to have to go through this process, especially when it's a common issue. We hope Cadillac can address these issues and improve their customer service, as we have been loyal customers for years. While it's understandable that mistakes happen, it's important to handle them with care and respect for the customer. We hope to see improvements in the future.

I bought this Cadillac Escalade used about 2 months ago. During the short test drive, I didn't notice any issues. However, after purchasing it, I experienced some transmission issues. The car would lunge when I stopped and when it was in park, it would want to go. Additionally, the cue system screen would freeze up and not work properly. I contacted Cadillac's main number and the dealership in Spring, but unfortunately, they were unable to help me as there is no recall for these issues. I found out that there is a civil action lawsuit, the second one for the cue screen. I may have to file a lemon law before this car actually hits someone. I also own a BMW X5 that I love and have had no issues with. I previously owned a Mercedes and I don't think I will ever go back to a Cadillac again. I suggest that no one purchase a Cadillac due to the numerous issues and lack of willingness to fix them.

The vehicle had several issues, including A/C, transmission, lifters, camshaft, and others, which were all replaced at 70k. Additionally, the black hood paint has completely worn off. However, I am confident that with proper maintenance and care, these issues can be avoided in the future.

The car had some issues that made it difficult to drive. However, I recently traded it in for a new Tahoe, which has been a blessing. I hope the next owner of my old Escalade has a better experience with it.

Despite the challenges I have faced with my 2017 CPO Escalade, I remain confident in its potential. While it has required several repairs, including a transmission failure on the first day of ownership, I have faith in the expertise of the dealer to address these issues. I have experienced some transmission shift problems, but I trust the dealer's assurance that they are normal. Additionally, I have had some brake and electrical issues, as well as some rattles and squeaks, and the front end collision prevention system is no longer functioning. However, I am optimistic that these issues can be resolved and I am committed to working with the dealer to ensure that my vehicle is in top condition. Overall, I am still satisfied with my car and believe that it has great potential.
