The Lincoln Town Car is a model line of full-size luxury sedans that was marketed by the Lincoln division of the American automaker Ford Motor Company. Deriving its name from a limousine body style, Lincoln marketed the Town Car from 1981 to 2011, with the nameplate previously serving as the flagship trim of the Lincoln Continental. Produced across three generations for thirty model years, the Town Car was marketed directly against luxury sedans from Cadillac and Chrysler.

Marketed nearly exclusively as a four-door sedan (a two-door sedan was offered for 1981 only), many examples of the Town Car were used for fleet and livery (limousine) service. From 1983 to its 2011 discontinuation, the Town Car was the longest car produced by Ford worldwide, becoming the longest mass-production car sold in North America from 1997 to 2011. While not a direct successor of the Town Car, the Lincoln MKS would become the longest American sedan until 2016 (overtaken by the Cadillac CT6).

From 1980 until 2007, the Lincoln Town Car was assembled in Wixom, Michigan, (Wixom Assembly) alongside the Lincoln Continental, LS, and Mark VI, VII, and VIII. After Wixom's closure, Town Car production moved to Southwold, Ontario, (St. Thomas Assembly) alongside the similar Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis. The final Lincoln Town Car was produced on August 29, 2011.

Within the Lincoln model line, the Town Car was not directly replaced; the nameplate was used from 2012 to 2019 to denote livery/limousine/hearse variants of the Lincoln MKT. For 2017, the revived Continental replaced the MKS, closely matching the Town Car in wheelbase and width.

Common 2010 Lincoln Town car problems

The Lincoln Town Car, produced in 2010, is known for its reliability and comfort. However, as with any vehicle, there are common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues:

  • Air Conditioning Problems: Some owners of the 1996 Lincoln Town Car have reported issues with the air conditioning system, which can lead to complete failure without warning. This issue may be caused by a faulty A/C compressor clutch air gap, which can be fixed by adjusting the air gap, costing around $60. This problem is common in models from 1990 to 2010.
  • Vehicle Control Issues: Vehicle control problems have been reported by owners of the 2003 Lincoln Town Car, which can cause the car to unexpectedly jerk or accelerate. This issue can be dangerous and may result in accidents. It is recommended to consult a mechanic immediately if any signs of this problem are noticed.
  • Acceleration Problems: Some owners of the 1999 Lincoln Town Car have reported issues with acceleration, where the car hesitates and loses power when the gas pedal is stepped on. This issue may be caused by faulty components such as the fuel filter, throttle position sensor, or catalytic converter.
  • Tire Pressure Warning Light: The tire pressure warning light may come on, indicating an issue with one or more of the tires, such as low or high air pressure, a slow leak, or a flat tire.
  • Lane-Keeping Assist Light: The lane-keeping assist light may come on, indicating that the system is working to keep the car in its lane and prevent it from drifting from side to side.
  • Anti-Lock Brake Light: The anti-lock brake light may come on, indicating an issue with the anti-lock brakes, which could be caused by a faulty speed sensor, low brake fluid, or total brake failure.
  • Engine Drone: Under acceleration, the engine drone can disturb the otherwise quiet cabin of the Lincoln Town Car.
  • Road Bumps: Road bumps can be too prominent for a luxury car, which can affect the ride quality.
  • Handling: The handling of the Lincoln Town Car is neither athletic nor graceful, which can affect the driving experience.

It is important to note that these common problems do not affect all vehicles of the same year, make, and model. It is recommended to check if your specific car has open recalls using your VIN or plate.

Negative 2010 Lincoln Town car car reviews

  1. Rafael Nienow 2024-10-11

Last year, my wife and I purchased a vehicle that we thought was decent. However, after shopping around, I realized that my decision may have been ill-advised. Recently, I came across the Acura RL and was impressed by its features, including over 300 hp from a V6 with all-wheel drive, superior interior quality, 10 airbags, independent suspension, and Honda reliability of over 200k miles. In comparison, my Towncar uses a body-on-frame design and a live axle, which makes for handling that is about as agile as a lumbering elephant compared to the Acura. Although my wife may not agree, I believe that with GM likely going under, the Towncar's time has come and gone.

  2. Braulio Carter 2024-10-04

Since I bought the car, I've put about 5000 miles on it. The next day, I noticed that it would periodically hesitate or jerk when cruising at almost any speed. Although subtle, I drove it on some smooth roads and continued to notice the jerking. I've taken it to the dealer three times, but unfortunately, they still cannot figure out what is wrong. The shop foreman and a mechanic rode with me twice and they both felt what I was telling them. I think it might be a computer flaw that the average driver does not feel, but Ford is telling them that it is a nuance of how the car drives.

  3. Tracey Schulist 2024-06-03

I purchased a used 2008 car in 2011 with 33,000 miles. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with Napleton in West Palm, but after reaching out to the corporate and Lincoln corp., the situation improved. Now, in July 2015, I am facing a big bill at the Ford/Lincoln dealership for necessary repairs. The fuel gauge, fuel pump, fuel lines, battery, and A/C fan all need to be replaced, costing more than $2000. Despite the unexpected expenses, we still love the car. We always brought the car in for check-ups, and everything seemed fine. However, problems started right after we started getting gas at Costco. I am wondering if there is a connection here?

  4. Emmet Bode 2024-04-06

For our vacation, we rented a Signature Limited Town Car from Hertz. Although I had rented Town Cars in the 90s, I was excited to try out a new one. The car we rented had just been built in June 2009 and had only 6000 miles on it. While the engine had power, it didn't quite have the same thrust as a Cadillac. Additionally, the air conditioning didn't seem to be as cold as a Cadillac's. The stereo had Sirius satellite reception, but the sound quality was just adequate. The seat had lumbar support, which was a great improvement from previous versions, but the seat cushion on the bottom was a bit flat and could have used more cushioning. The ride was a little harsh on bumps, which I think may be due to the air suspension in the rear. Overall, it was a decent rental experience with some minor drawbacks.

  5. Jules Kuhic 2024-02-08

I was driving the Lincoln Towncar and unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected. During the drive, my dentures were rattling, which was quite uncomfortable. Additionally, after a long trip, I felt like someone had been sitting on my lower back for hours.

Positive 2010 Lincoln Town car car reviews

  1. Korbin Cummings 2024-11-26

This car is built to last longer than any other car on the road. It gets an impressive 26 mpg on the highway for a V8. It's also designed with safety and comfort in mind, making for a reliable and enjoyable driving experience.

  2. Kevon Ondricka 2024-11-04

I have owned 15 Lincoln Town Cars since 1986, and my 2008 Dark Cherry Signature Limited edition is by far the best luxury car I have ever driven. The ride, handling, and performance are unparalleled, even when compared to other luxury brands such as Bentley, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, and Cadillac. The car's stately and elegant look is enhanced by its HID headlights, chrome wheels, trunk organizer, and white sidewall tires. I have been getting 24 miles per gallon on the highways and 18 in the city, which is impressive. In my opinion, there is no other car on the market that can match the Town Car. I am already excited about my next Town Car in 2010!

  3. Scottie Adams 2024-08-18

Hi there! We often get stopped by people who want to buy our car. We take great care of it and it takes great care of us - it's been the lowest maintenance car we've owned in 50 years! The only issue we've had is with the cooling system, which requires a little help now and then. We love this wondercar so much that we would never dream of selling it. Plus, it's really fuel efficient, especially on the highway!

  4. Dangelo Hayes 2024-06-16

I've owned 2 town cars now. The first was a 1998 model that unfortunately I was rear-ended in and it totaled my beloved ride. I just purchased a 2010 Continental with 29,000 miles on her. I could have purchased any car I wanted, but I specifically hunted for a low mileage Lincoln TC! I am older now, but I have always loved the town car. When I see one on the road, not many on the streets these days, but I always get a smile when I drive mine! The person who wrote this blistering review of these TC is crazy and uninformed on these great rides! I give them 5 stars! All the way! 🇺🇸

  5. Keenan Walker 2024-06-14

I got this car for 2 reasons- Status and Space. However, I have found many more reasons why I should get rid of this car. It handles like a tank, has no technology, has a pathetic engine, and feels like you're driving over grenades when you go over a bump. It is also overpriced for what you get. I could go on all day. On the bright side, it is simple to fix. All you need to do is get rid of the body on frame construction and remove the solid rear axle. Then it would be the perfect car!
