Lincoln Nautilus problems

The Lincoln Nautilus is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV marketed and sold by the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. The Nautilus was initially renamed from the MKX as part of a mid-cycle update in 2018 for the 2019 model year, as Lincoln phased out its use of "MK" model names. The name 'Nautilus' is derived from the ancient Greek word nautes, meaning "sailor," as in nautical or astronaut.
The first generation is based on the CD4 platform, and was manufactured at Oakville Assembly in Oakville, Ontario, Canada alongside the Ford Edge, Ford Flex, and Lincoln MKT and manufactured in Hangzhou Assembly in Zhejiang, China by joint venture Changan Ford from 2021 to 2023. The second generation is solely produced by Changan Ford in China, as Ford is retooling the Oakville Assembly plant to produce electric vehicles.
First generation (U540; 2019)
The Lincoln Nautilus was released as the mid-cycle revision of the second-generation MKX in November 2017 for the 2019 model year. Adopting the styling of the newly introduced Continental and Navigator, the Nautilus transitioned from the previous split-wing grille to a large rectangular grille with a large Lincoln star emblem.
The counterpart of the updated Ford Edge, the Nautilus is slotted between the Aviator and the MKC (which was replaced by Corsair for the 2020 model year) in Lincoln's lineup. A 245-horsepower (248 PS; 183 kW) 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four is the standard engine, with a 335-horsepower (340 PS; 250 kW) 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 carried over from the MKX as an option; both engines are fitted with start-stop capability. An 8-speed automatic transmission is paired to both engines (replacing the previous 6-speed).
For the 2021 model year, the Nautilus was once again refreshed with a new interior similar to the new Navigator, Aviator, and Corsair, featuring a larger 13.2" touchscreen and Ford's latest SYNC 4 system. Minor changes were also made to the front bumper.

Common Lincoln Nautilus problems
The Lincoln Nautilus, a luxury crossover SUV, has its fair share of common problems across various model years. While the vehicle is generally reliable, certain issues have been reported by owners, particularly with the 2019 model year.
One of the most common problems with the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus involves the transmission. Owners have reported jerky shifting, unexpected stalling, and complete transmission failure in severe cases. These issues can be particularly concerning for drivers, as they may lead to safety hazards on the road.
Electronic troubles are another common complaint among 2019 Nautilus owners. Problems with the infotainment system have been noted, including lagging response times, system crashes, and difficulties with navigation features. These issues can be frustrating for drivers, as they may affect the overall user experience and functionality of the vehicle's technology.
Interior concerns have also been reported for the 2019 Lincoln Nautilus. Some drivers have mentioned that certain interior parts appear less durable and show early signs of wear. This can be disappointing for owners, as they may expect a higher level of quality and durability from a luxury vehicle.
While these issues have been reported, it's important to note that the Lincoln Nautilus has generally received high-reliability ratings from sources like J.D. Power. The vehicle's performance, interior, and safety features have received positive reviews, indicating that the Nautilus is a reliable choice for those seeking a luxury midsize SUV.
However, it's crucial for potential buyers to consider the maintenance history and care of each used vehicle, as this can significantly impact its dependability. A well-cared-for Nautilus from a reliable model year could potentially offer a more reliable ride than a neglected one from a later year.
In summary, while the Lincoln Nautilus has demonstrated strong reliability overall, certain model years, such as the 2019 model, have shown more issues than others. Potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider the vehicle's maintenance history when purchasing a used Nautilus.

- Summary: Reported to Lincoln over a year ago about DEATH WOBBLE on this vehicle. Have taken to 3 dealerships to have checked out and have not found anything. BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENNING. Have suggested to have an engineer from the company to ride along. Not happening. The keep closing the case. September of last year we were driving through Richmond, Virginia on our way to Florida and, it went into the DEATH WOBBLE at 65mph. Shook so bad it snapped my front hitch system and could not tow the car and had to be trailer towed to a dealership. There are other reports out there on the web of other people having the same issue. Was told at one point it could be my equipment. After it broke my system last September and almost lost the car, my insurance company paid to have car repaired and installed a NEW Blue Ox system and it did it again. This time at slower speed and I was able to control. Told ALL DEALERSHIPS AND LINCOLN howitzer is happening and steering is not going back to zero after I make a turn or hit a bump. No reaction. One dealership told me I should not be towing that car, but the car is set up to be towed, according to owners manual. Repair documentation is with Lincoln and insurance company, with all reports. Have a date of September of last year because that was the big one, but started August of 2023, March of 2024, August of 2024 2 times. Each time reported to Lincoln and taken to shop. Could have been a serious accident if I didn't control the motorhome and car.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-09
- Date Complaint: 2024-07-13
- VIN: 2LMPJ8KP6LB
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When I took the vehicle in for service, I had to replace all 20 lug nuts as the dealer service department reported they were "swollen" and they were unable to complete the tire rotation. This also poses a safety risk as if I had a flat tire, I could not get them off to change a tire. They could also break causing stress on others and cause a wheel to come off of the vehicle. I was advised that this is a common problem with Ford/Lincoln vehicles, however there didn't seem to be any warranty coverage or safety recalls. If this is a common problem or some type of defect, it seems that I should not have had to spend $240 to replace them.

It seem fine so I went to grocery store and when I turned to go into a parking space it would not move as almost it was in neutral. Then my AWD Malfunction light came on so I called my husband and we were 5 minutes from dealer ship so we took it there and dropped it off. Monday, I called dealer ship to have them look at it and they told me that my rear differential motor had to be replaced at a cost of $1800 and it was not covered under power train warranty because the part did pop up when it was entered. Car only has 44K miles on it...Waiting on someone from Ford to call back to see why it is not covered.

***UPDATE*** Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2023 Nauitlus Black Label. It has been 9 months since I got it and I must say, it is still my favorite vehicle! As I mentioned in my original post below, I absolutely love the power from the V6, the gorgeous and comfortable interior, and the handsome exterior profile. What's even better is that this generation of Nautilus is one of the best and most reliable mid-size luxury SUV/Crossovers you can buy, according to multiple automotive resources including but not limited to Motortrend, U.S. News, Consumer Reports (a recommended buy!), etc. I did come across a review from Car & Driver that wasn't too positive, but I believe that everyone has their own preferences and not everyone wants a German corner carver. Some of us prefer a little bit of relaxed luxury, right? Car & Driver did praise it for its comfort, power, and refinement though. All that aside, I'm still so pleased with my purchase and I highly recommend putting Lincoln on your radar.Original Post: I purchased a 2017 Lincoln MKX when new and fell in love with it before and after the sale. I had the Reserve model back then, still with the 2.7 liter V6. It was a wonderful car and gave me several years of trouble-free/worry-free enjoyment. In 2022, I sold it to my sister who coveted it since the first day she saw it. I was happy to sell it to her, but immediately missed it when I started driving our Jeep on a daily basis. A little over a year went by and I saw the redesigned 2024 Nautilus debut and although I love the redesign, I was very disappointed to learn that it would no longer be available with a V6 option. That coupled with the fact that production was being moved to China made me re-think buying one. Having said that, I made the decision to purchase a 2023 Nautilus Black Label because I knew what I was buying....The Lincoln Nautilus is an incredibly luxurious and comfortable vehicle with outstanding performance. While some may criticize Lincoln for being nothing but gussied-up Fords, this is a common practice among luxury auto manufacturers and their mainstream counterparts. In my opinion, the new Nautilus is a great value, offering all the trappings one could want in a comfortable cruiser with some slight performance chops (with the V6, I'm not a fan of the four-banger). The 22-way massaging seats are a real treat because they not only massage the seat back, but also the seat bottom, and they're highly adjustable. Soft touch material is laid out everywhere except for the lower door panels, which is a smart move to protect from scuffs, etc. The Bridge of Weir leather is some of the softest leather I've ever experienced in a vehicle. If I had to nitpick, and it's a small issue, it's that the rearview/360 degree cameras are not high-definition. I don't know if it was a supply chain issue that prevented them from putting them on the Nautilus, but I know other Lincolns and Fords with the Sync 4 system have better resolution. However, it's not a dealbreaker for me, and maybe they will be able to retrofit better cameras down the road. I'm sure the 2024 model will alleviate this issue. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, and although no vehicle is perfect, I'm confident that I will have the same wonderful experience with this vehicle as I did my 2017 MKX. If you haven't driven one, I highly recommend cross-shopping it with other midsize luxury SUV's, such as the Cadillac XT5, Lexus RX, etc. You might be pleasantly surprised when comparing apples to apples.

I had originally planned on purchasing a Cadillac XT5, which I had taken a liking to. However, on my way to finalize the deal, I decided to stop by the Lincoln dealer. I am so glad that I did! As soon as I drove the Lincoln, I fell in love with it. I ended up buying it that same afternoon and have been excited to drive it anywhere for the past month. The drive is incredibly smooth and the interior is exceptionally quiet. Although there is a lot of tech to learn, Lincoln has done an excellent job with this car!

Looks really good on the outside but a mix bag on the inside. The leather is really nice but the transmission buttons are cheap plastic and out of place for a CUV that cost me 65k! This price range opens the door to some really nice cars. Overall, I love the size and the American Luxury comfort. Definitely take it for a test drive, it's worth a look.

We bought this car because my wife has nerve issues in her back and after sitting in almost every SUV available she liked these seats the best. She couldn't ride a mile in her Mercedes without hurting. She just drove 200 miles in the Nautilus and felt great. We are very pleased with the performance and ride of the car. Besides the seats, we find the car to be very luxurious inside. We opted for the upgraded seats and they are fantastic. She drives in sport mode most of the time because it feels tighter, but standard mode is definitely smoother. Although we were initially unsure if this car was worth $60k, we are surprisingly pleased with it overall. It's worth noting that the trim we got is not listed in the drop-down menu - we got the V6 AWD Reserve.

This is my first SUV, and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed! After driving luxury sedans for the last 30 years, I was hesitant to switch to an SUV, but the Nautilus Black Label has exceeded all my expectations. It provides all the comfort of a luxury sedan, while also delivering the power and performance of a sports car, and the utility of an SUV. I am absolutely in love with this vehicle! The twin turbos make it incredibly quick off the mark, and the leather seats are so luxurious, especially with the added bonus of the massaging feature. But the real standout feature for me is the stereo system - it is simply amazing! With a V6 twin turbo engine, active airbag suspension, and 21-inch wheels, this luxurious SUV delivers an exceptional performance on the road. I can only hope that I can drive this vehicle for 100k miles without any issues - that would be a dream come true 😊

Vehicle year: 2019
I purchased this car in 2020 and initially loved it for its comfort, spaciousness, and luxurious features as a Black Label model. However, I have encountered some issues that have caused me concern. The turning radius is not up to par, making it difficult to park in tight spaces. Additionally, the excessive number of 'convenience' features can be more of a hindrance than a help, such as the variable speed automatic wipers that do not always function as intended. I have also experienced some unusual problems, including hard clunking sounds when shifting from Park to Drive and the engine or turbos dropping out during acceleration. These issues have raised concerns about potential future problems. Finally, I experienced a serious safety event on the interstate last year when the car suddenly did a panic stop from 75 mph to 40 mph for no apparent reason. While I still appreciate the car's positive attributes, these issues have caused me to consider trading it in.The truck's shadow cast into my lane as I was passing it, causing the car to perceive it as an obstruction. This was an extremely dangerous and frightening experience. Despite reporting it to the NHTSA, I never received any follow-up, including from Lincoln. As a 55-year-old, I find the amount of technology that requires human involvement to adjust or use overwhelming. For instance, turning on or off the massaging seats requires swiping 2-3 times over and clicking two more times on the touch screen. Although there are buttons on the side of the seat, they are not visible while driving, making it difficult to adjust them. It would be better to have dedicated, tactile buttons on the center console. On the other hand, the button to manually retract or extend the side view mirrors is in a terrible location, right in front of the driver's power window button on the door. I have lost count of how many times I have accidentally folded in the mirrors instead of rolling down the window while driving. The button should have been on the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel, away from any other frequently-used buttons. I am still undecided about keeping this car. It is not a decision I should have to make for a $55k car. Update: I sold the car due to the transmission issues that many people are experiencing. I did not want to be stuck with an expensive repair bill. Although I like Ford vehicles, this one was a miss for me.

The rattles were fixed within eight months. However, there are currently issues with the seats tearing along perforations, tailgate gasket failing, and rear 'Lincoln' emblem falling off. Despite being a longtime Lincoln customer, Lincoln corporate has refused to address these issues. It is disappointing to receive such poor service, especially when out-of-town.

I understand that the author of this text has had a negative experience with their 2019 Nautilus, and I would like to assure them that their concerns are valid and important. It is unfortunate that they have had to deal with multiple issues with their vehicle, and I can understand how this would be frustrating. However, I would like to emphasize that Lincoln is committed to providing high-quality vehicles and excellent customer service. I would encourage the author to reach out to Lincoln directly to discuss their concerns and explore potential solutions. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I hope that we can work together to address these issues and improve your overall experience with Lincoln.

The transmission issue has been brought to the attention of the service team on three separate occasions, with each visit resulting in a reprogramming of the system. However, the problem persists, and the latest suggestion is that I should drive the car more frequently to allow for a smoother gear change. As a luxury vehicle, it is reasonable to expect a high level of performance from the outset, without the need for a learning period.

This beautiful car would be great if the voice commands worked properly. I understand how frustrating it can be when they don't. Additionally, there seems to be too much unnecessary information on the screen, making it feel cluttered. However, the most important issue is the voice activation, which barely works. I hope this feedback is helpful to you.
