It is Lexus' largest and most expensive luxury SUV. Four generations have been produced, all based heavily on the long-running Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs. The first-generation LX 450 started production in 1995 as Lexus' first entry into the SUV market. Its successor, the LX 470, premiered in 1998 and was manufactured until 2007. The third-generation LX debuted at the New York International Auto Show in April 2007. The fourth-generation LX debuted in October 2021.
The first-generation LX 450 had a straight-six engine and seats for seven passengers. The second and third-generations had a V8 engine powertrain, a welded steel body-shell combined with full-size steel ladder frame (body-on-frame construction), and seats for eight passengers. The fourth-generation model has a twin-turbocharged V6 engine powertrain and seats for seven passengers as standard and four passengers as an option. The second-generation LX 470 shared exterior styling with the Japanese domestic market Land Cruiser Cygnus.
According to Lexus, the "LX" name stands for "Luxury Crossover". However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, "Luxury Four Wheel Drive".

This is a huge cruiser with a great ride quality. I've driven the Infinity QX, Benz GL, BMW X5, and Range Rovers/Land Rover. While the LX 570 may not have the best acceleration, handling, or looks, it does have the best ride quality and reliability. I've heard some horror stories about the MB GL and Range Rover/Land Rover, as dealers make more money on fixing these cars than selling them. However, I haven't heard too many horror stories about the BMW's. At the end of the day, my wife and I wanted the Porsche SUV, as it's the only car we're willing to forgive for less than a reliable history. If you've ever driven a Porsche, you'll know what I'm talking about. But, as always, my wife won, so we got the Lexus LX.

I recently traded in my Mercedes GL450 for the LX570 and I must say, it was a great decision. The LX570 offers a more luxurious ride and has a lot more interior space, which my three kids noticed right away. We no longer have to deal with the constant bickering of 'stop touching me!'. We recently took a road trip in the car and found it to be extremely comfortable and pleasurable to drive. The car comes with lots of extras, including an outstanding and easy-to-use navigation system, a great sound system, and a built-in DVD player that my kids absolutely loved. Overall, we found the LX570 to be a very nice car and we actually prefer it over the Mercedes and the Range Rover.

The LX-570 replaced an Acura MDX and a Lincoln Navigator before that. After 125,000 miles, it still rides like new. Unlike the MDX, which had a rough ride and sloppy handling at 80K, and the Navigator, which had recurring service problems that were never completely fixed and was dumped after 60K, the LX has proven to be a reliable and comfortable ride. I have taken it from California to Connecticut and back three times, and it felt like riding in first class on a plane. I am confident that this car will last me 200K miles or more, as it still looks brand new. Additionally, Lexus service provides top-notch quality without breaking the bank.

Love everything. Rides and drives like a dream. Pulls boat, camper, and utility trailer with ease.

I'm on my third Lexus now. The first two were LX 470's. After I sold the last one, I decided to switch things up and get a two-year-old Range Rover Sport (supercharged). It looked great and was reasonably comfortable, not to mention incredibly fast with that supercharger. However, I was horribly let down by reliability issues, including overheating problems, brakes binding requiring new pads and rotors after 30,000Km, and a leaking sunroof that caused a wiring short inside the passenger side quarter panel. That's why I decided to go back to something I know would be reliable, like my two previous Lexus's. I wasn't disappointed and have found the LX 570 to be many times nicer than the 470.

I am delighted to be leasing this LX. While my wife wanted to lease a new GL, I was looking for something different. We almost got a Range Rover, but with three children (aged 5, 3, and 6 months), it was a little small. There were two reasons why we decided to lease this SUV: firstly, we got a pretty good deal because I knew the GM at the Lexus dealer, and secondly, we had never had a Lexus SUV before. However, after driving 3100 miles, I have to say that I am not entirely satisfied with this SUV, especially considering the price range. If it were in the $50k range, it would be acceptable, but not for an SUV that costs over $70k. Here's why: firstly, it doesn't feel as solid as the GL; secondly, the Bluetooth connectivity is terrible - the other person can't hear well; thirdly, there is more road noise compared to the GL; and finally, it doesn't feel like a luxury SUV that costs $75k.

If you're looking for a car that combines the reliability and quality of a Toyota with the luxury of a German SUV and the low maintenance of a Japanese car, the Lexus is a great choice. It comes with a lot of advanced technology and offers a decent ride. While the seats could be improved and the ride and handling could be better, it still competes with other SUVs like the Range Rover, BMW X5, and Mercedes ML. However, like any other SUV, it has its own set of shortfalls.

I purchased this vehicle on July 30, 2013 and unfortunately, I have experienced a number of issues with it. On the first day, the tire pressure warning light came on, and although the dealer repaired it, the light came on again after only 8 miles of driving. I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the sensors. However, on Thursday September 12, the car completely shut down which was a very scary moment for me. I lost all power and the SCRA light, warning lights, and engine lights all came on. I couldn't restart the car, and the headlights stayed on. I was locked in park and couldn't do anything, not even lock the doors to call Lexus. Thankfully, Lexus service sent out a tow truck and they had to put the car on dollies in order to tow it back to the dealer. The Newport Lexus Sales Manager explained that the vehicle is dangerous and refused to replace it.
