2008 Scion Xd problems
The Scion xD (also known as the Toyota Ist in Japan, and, as the Toyota Urban Cruiser in Europe and Latin America) is a subcompact hatchback that was marketed in the U.S. and Canada by Japanese manufacturer Toyota beginning with the 2008 model year, as a five-door subcompact hatchback — replacing the xA. The Scion xD and the second generation xB were first shown to the public on February 8, 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show.
The xD appeared in Scion showrooms in mid-2007 in the USA and in 2011 for Canada, and, was discontinued in 2014. It was succeeded and replaced by the Toyota C-HR, in 2017.
Features
The xD came standard with power locks, mirrors, and windows, and 16-inch wheels. The vehicle also has ABS, a tire pressure monitoring system, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRAC), dual stage driver and passenger airbags, seat mounted driver and passenger side airbags, and side curtain airbags as standard features.
For 2008, a choice of three new head units made by Pioneer are available. All sound systems feature six speakers and standard iPod connectivity. The base head unit has MP3, WMA, and AAC CD compatibility, and Scion's SSP equalizer presets, as well as orange lighting. The Premium head unit has all the features of the base unit, but also has a small LCD that can display pictures and movies downloaded from Pioneer's website in addition to the features on the base unit and has two different lighting schemes, blue and orange. A navigation system is also available. The SNS 100 system can play DVD movies in addition to GPS functionality and the features of the base system, aside from the backlit color choices.
For 2010, a choice of two new head units made by Alpine are available. Also, the iPod connectivity has been revamped in the form of a USB port, along with an AUX jack located together, on the driver side of the vehicle. Previous model years with Pioneer had two separate inputs on both sides of the cigarette lighter/accessory plug, with the AUX jack port being on the driver side, and the iPod connectivity (specially made for Toyota) port located on the passenger side. The upgraded Alpine head unit features a touchscreen, and HD radio tuner, along with an optional Navigation system upgrade.
For the 2011 model year, the Scion xD received a minor change to the grille, and sales began in Canada with the launch of the Scion brand there. 2014 was the last model year for the xD, although leftover new cars continued to be sold in the US market until 2016.

It separated at a weld and caused the entire wheel assemble to lean inward (extreme negative camber) and rub against the wheel well. Fortunately I was off the highway when the incident occurred and barely made it safely to my work place. If this had happened at a greater speed I fear for what may have happened to myself and others. It is UNKNOWN if this problem has been reproduced in other circumstances. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer or police. It was inspected by an independent service provider (mechanic). It is available for additional inspection if needed. There was no warning, message or any other symptoms prior to the issue occurring.

INSTALLED FRONT BRAKES LATE JUNE 2015 AT 58,652. MID JULY 2015 EXPERIENCE CLUNKING SOUNDS COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE UPON ACCELERATION. CLUTCH FEELS "LOOSE." INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSTALLS BOLT AND NUT ON MOTOR MOUNT. PROBLEM CONTINUED OVER WEEKEND. MECHANIC SAID DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM IS LOOSE AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. TOOK CAR TO DEALER WHO SAYS NEW MOTOR MOUNT IS BEING ORDERED, DESPITE NEWNESS OF ENGINE AND NO EVIDENCE OF CRACKING. THEY DENY CONTROL ARM NEEDS REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN CITY OR FREEWAY.

FATHER LOOKED AT WHEEL WHILE I BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED WHEEL SHIFTING FORWARD/BACKWARD WITHIN THE WHEEL WELL ABOUT AN INCH WHEN STARTING AND STOPPING. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL TIRE SHOP AND WAS TOLD BOLD ATTACHING LOWER CONTROL ARM TO BODY HAD CORRODED AND BROKEN OFF. SUGGESTED I TAKE CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR, AND MENTIONED THERE WAS A TSB ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 7 YEARS/100,000 MILES. DEALER REPAIRED VEHICLE AT MY COST ($422), SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED (MILEAGE). I BELIEVE THIS PART SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY MY FATHER NOTICED THE WHEEL MOVEMENT OR THE WHEEL MAY HAVE COME OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. *JS

2008 Scion Xd recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2008 Scion Xd.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006-2010 Yaris vehicles manufactured August 22, 2005, through May 12, 2010, and 2008-2010 Scion xD vehicles manufactured April 4, 2007, through May 12, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the springs used for the seat rails on the driver's seat and the seat rails of the front passenger seat of three-door models may break.
- Consequence: If the spring breaks, the seat may not lock in position. In the event of a vehicle crash, the seat could move increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the seat rail, and replace it with a new one, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on July 3, 2014. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

- Summary: Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
- Consequence: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

I came across the Scion Xd while searching for a Honda Civic and Mazda 3. Although it differs from the Mazda, it shares similarities with the Civic in terms of reliability, fuel efficiency, and compact size. The car is well-built for a compact car, with many components shared with the Toyota Corolla (engine, transmission, etc.) and knobs and other items from the Rav4. For any 4-cylinder car without a turbo, I recommend the manual for better control and performance, especially when merging onto the freeway. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my Scion and glad that I found it.

After my car accident in my former Scion xA (where I hydroplaned at 60 mph, hit a guardrail and flipped over, yet walked away without a scratch), I had to go looking for another car. I wanted a car that was safe, reliable, and had great gas mileage. The xD was the perfect choice for me due to its unique style and great driving experience. It's rare to see another one on the road, and I average 37-40 mpg depending on where I'm driving. Its small design makes it extremely easy to move in and out of traffic, and its excellent crash test ratings and standard side airbags set my mind at ease. I plan on keeping this car for a long time.

I recently traded in my 2005 Ford Escape for a new xD, and I am absolutely thrilled with it! The gas mileage is fantastic - I drive about 10 miles every day to and from work, and I never get below 32 mpg. On longer trips, I get close to 40 mpg, if not more. I love everything about this car - the styling, performance, stereo, and more. I researched many other cars before settling on the xD, and I'm so glad I did. It offers great overall value and a standard list of features that can't be beat. Even though I switched from an automatic to a manual, I had no trouble adjusting to the gauges. The only extra thing I got were floor mats, which I'm very happy with. I couldn't be happier with my new xD!

Please take a moment to research this carefully. I have had some trouble with the Goodrich tires that came with my vehicle, as they needed to be replaced at 24K. Unfortunately, there are only two manufacturers who make a tire for this car, and both have not met my expectations. It's important to consider the reliability and fuel efficiency of a vehicle, but it's equally important to have tires that can keep up. I recently purchased new Dunlop tires for $600 at dealer cost. Additionally, I had an issue with the wheel bearing on my XA at 32K, which is something to keep in mind. As GM parts are used on these cars, it's important to be aware of potential issues. Although the gas mileage is not meeting my expectations, I have been able to achieve 22.3 MPG in mostly city driving with some highway. However, I have noticed some issues with the dashboard rattling, which can be distracting. Additionally, there are some blind spots due to the wide front struts and bulky side mirrors, which can obscure pedestrians in crosswalks and vehicles approaching on the right. Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my thoughts on the car my wife bought last Monday. Overall, it's not a bad car, but we did have a bit of trouble with the Scion dealers. They tend to add on extra fees, despite Scion's 'Pure Price' promise. But let's not dwell on that - let's talk about the xD! It's a small car, similar to a four-door Toyota Yaris, but it does come with standard side airbags which is a great safety feature. My wife found the ride to be okay, but I personally thought it was a bit bumpy and cheap-feeling, similar to the old Scion xA. However, the car does have about 23 more horsepower than the xA, although you can't really feel it on the road. Thanks for listening!

You made a great choice with your car! It has great gas mileage and is still able to haul a few things. It's perfect for both highway and city driving. The standard accessories are a nice touch, as they include most of the things you would have added anyway. It's a shame that the center armrest isn't included as a standard option, and the XM Ready radio is not as ready as it seems, as it costs an additional $500 to make it ready. That can be a bit deceiving, but overall, it's a great car!
