The Lexus GS (Japanese: レクサス・GS, Rekusasu GS) is an executive car (E-segment in Europe) manufactured and marketed by Lexus across four generations — launched in 1991 as the Toyota Aristo in Japan and as the Lexus GS for markets outside the JDM beginning in February 1993. It continued with the Toyota Aristo name for the Japanese market until January 2005.

The GS featured six-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive, with a V8 engines offered forall generations, and all-wheel drive and hybrid versions debuted in 2005. Previously, all-wheel drive versions were already made available in the Japanese-market S140 series Aristo. The first two generations had a Japanese domestic market equivalent, the Toyota Aristo (aristo is Greek for "the best"), which was sold from 1991 until the Lexus marque's domestic debut in 2005. Though largely identical in exterior and interior design, the GS and the Aristo differed in their engine and transmission combinations as well as equipment packages. The GS name stands for Grand Sedan. However, some Lexus importers use the backronymic name, Grand Sport.
The first generation Lexus GS began sales in the United States, Europe and selected Asian markets in 1993. It was originally introduced with an inline-six engine and exterior bodywork designed by Italdesign Giugiaro. The second generation model premiered in 1997, using a new platform, in-house styling, and adding a V8 version for the first time outside Japan. The third generation GS, which premiered globally for the 2006 model year, was produced in V6, V8, and hybrid versions, the latter known as the GS 450h. The third generation models were the first GS sedans to be badged as such in the Japanese domestic market.
The fourth generation Lexus GS premiered in August 2011 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where models introduced included the V6-powered GS 350, hybrid GS 450h, and performance-tuned F Sport variants. A lower-displacement V6 model, the GS 250, premiered at the Auto Guangzhou Exhibition in November 2011, targeted at Asian and European markets. In some markets such as North America and Asia, the GS shares the mid-size sedan category in the Lexus lineup with the front-wheel drive ES, serving as its rear-wheel-drive counterpart.
The GS was replaced in Europe by the Lexus ES from December 2018. The seventh generation ES is the first to be sold in Europe, replacing the GS in spite of being a front-wheel drive car. It went on sale from September 2018 in Russia, Turkey and other CIS markets and from December 2018 in Western and Central Europe. Production ended in August 2020.

I SPOKE TO DEALER HENDRIX LEXUS NORTH OF KANSAS CITY WHO FOUND THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE ABS ACTUATOR AND THAT IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $3,000.00. THE NOISE I HAD HEARD ON THE CAR CONTINUES AND THE CAR IS BASICALLY A HAZARD TO DRIVE. LOOKING AT MANY OTHER LEXUS FORUMS, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I LOOKED FOR RECALLS AND FOUND NOTHING ON IT. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES THE VEHICLE AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. I WAS TOLD NO. THEY INFORMED ME THAT LEXUS DOES HAVE A WARRANTY OF THIS, HOWEVER I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A HIGH SAFETY PART, SO I CALLED LEXUS. I SPOKE TO CASE MANAGER MILES @ 800-255-3987. MILES INSISTS THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY FOR THE " WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT" THAT ENDED IN 2017 OF DECEMBER, AND 10 YEARS AFTER OPERATION OF VEHICLE. I HAVE NO RECORD OF RECEIVING A LETTER IN THE MAIL. THE PREVIOUS REP SAYS THAT THE LETTER CAN BE OVERLOOKED BECAUSE IT LOOKS MORE LIKE JUNK MAIL. THIS IS A PROBLEM AND THIS PROBLEM IS ON THE STREETS AND THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL, NOT A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT I FOUND IS ATTACHED. IN THIS PARTICULAR WARRANTY, MY CAR IS NOT LISTED AT FIRST BUT IF YOU SCROLL DOWN THE ATTACHED WARRANTY IT APPEARS. MORE THAN 736,000 VEHICLES ACCORDING TO THIS DOCUMENT ARE COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY, HOWEVER I AM PRETTY SURE THAT MANY WERE NOT FIXED AND THIS IS A CONCERN TO PEOPLE DRIVING. THE "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM, BUT WHAT IF THE ABS SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILS AND NOT ABLE TO REACT IN TIME TO STOP WHEN ONE IS DRIVING TO TAKE THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL, THROUGH SCHOOL ZONES, OR EVEN THROUGH BUSINESS DISTRICTS ON THEIR COMMUTE TO WORK, WHO MAY NOT KNOW OF THIS ISSUE. THIS WARRANTY I FOUND ONLINE AT A FORUM AND NEVER TO MY KNOWLEDGE RECEIVED THIS AT ALL IN THE MAIL AS LEXUS STATED THAT EACH CUSTOMER WOULD HAVE RECEIVED THIS AS A MATTER OF FACT TO THEIR HOMES ACCORDING TO THE DMV RECORDS THEY HAD ON FILE. I WAS NEVER VERIFIED THAT IT WAS SENT TO MY CORRECT ADDRESS OF RECORD ACCORDING TO MY PREVIOUS REP AND MILES, MY CASE MANAGER AT LEXUS.

I SEARCHED ONLINE AND THERE'S A CERTAIN RECALL DESCRIBING EXACTLY WHAT MY CAR IS DOING. THE RECALL NUMBER IS 10V309000- TOYOTA RECALLS 2006-2008 LEXUS MODELS DUE TO POSSIBLE ENGINE PROBLEMS DUE TO MICRO-FOREIGN OBJECTS IN THE VALVE SPRING THAT CAN CAUSE IT TO BREAK. THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO FAIL SUDDENLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

- Summary: CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED IN TWO LEXUS DELAERSHIPS IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS....CAR STARTED BLINKING THE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS AND STEERING STARTED INTERMITTNETLY WORKING AND THE BRAKES WERE AT 50%. I WAS ABLE TO THE STOP THE CAR AND SHUT IT DOWN WHEN I RESTARTED THE NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON. THE STEERING FEEL WAS BACK TO NORMAL AND SO WERE THE BRAKES. I ACCELERATED UP TO ABOUT 5 MILES PER HOUR...AND THE LIGHTS WENT OFF WITH ALARMS AND THE STEERING AND BRAKES COMPLETELY MALFUNCTIONED AND WOULD NOT WORK AND I HIT A PARKED CAR BECAUSE OF NO ABILITY TO CONTROL THE CAR. NO WARNING SIGNS BEFORE THAT. THIS WAS ON A SMALL CITY SIDE STREET IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE HEADLIGHTS WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

I really enjoy driving my GSh more than my 911. It's just so much more comfortable and handles really well in the city. The factory stereo is second to none and the cooled seats are amazing - something my Porsche doesn't have. Of course, when I want to have some fun driving up to Whistler, I take the Porsche. Overall, I prefer the GSh about 8 out of 10 times.

I migrated from an '06 Corvette C6, and was pleasantly surprised by the performance of this car. It is extremely fun to drive, and I am averaging around 26 mpg, compared to 19 in the much-lighter Corvette. This is my first Lexus ever, and I am totally satisfied with it.

This car is amazing! My wife and I both love driving it so much that we often argue over who gets to take it out. It's definitely a challenge to keep the speed under 100 mph, and we're always on the lookout for a good race.

This car is one of the fastest I've ever owned. It's so quiet that you might not even realize you've turned it on. If you're not familiar with it, you might turn it off and on 30 times before realizing it's already on. It's a very classy car and I love the way it handles.

I have owned or leased at least five vehicles since 1993, including a 1998 GS 400. However, I must say that this particular model does not meet my expectations. The gas-electric-gas kickin/out sensation at speeds around 59 mph is extremely annoying, and the trunk is minuscule. I am currently trying to find a way to get rid of this vehicle. It is worth noting that the mileage is only 4-5 mpg better than my GS 400.

I bought this car after owning 3 BMWs because I found the service on BMWs in Southern California to be quite awful. I must say that Lexus service is truly amazing and far ahead of any other car type, which is hard to believe. However, I have noticed that this car handles quite loosely and due to the continuously variable transmission, it feels more like driving a motor boat than a car.
