The Infiniti M is a line of mid-size luxury (executive) cars from the Infiniti luxury division of Nissan. From 2013 (model year 2014) on it has been marketed as the Infiniti Q70, reflecting the company's new naming scheme.

The first iteration was the M30 Coupé/Convertible, which were rebadged JDM Nissan Leopard. After a long hiatus, the M nameplate was used for Infiniti's mid-luxury sedans (executive cars). First was the short-lived M45 sedan, a rebadged version of the Japanese-spec Nissan Gloria. The next generations, the M35/45 and M37/56/35h/30d, became the flagship of the Infiniti brand and are based on the JDM Nissan Fuga.

First generation (1989–1992)

The Infiniti M30 was a 2-door coupé based on the Japanese market Nissan Leopard (chassis code F31). It was launched in 1989 for the 1990 model year as a luxury coupe alternative to the Infiniti Q45, and was intended to be an alternative to the Lexus SC and Acura Legend coupe for the North American market.

Unlike its competitors that were designed with the American market in mind and were launched as brand-new models, the M30 was based on a somewhat dated platform that was originally designed for the Japanese market; when the Leopard was imported to the United States, few changes were made to the exterior but the interior was revised to better suit American tastes; a leather interior was standard in the M30, and several features in the Leopard such as a center-mounted television screen and a digital instrument cluster weren't available in the M30 as those features were perceived as gimmicks in western car markets.

The M30's angular design aesthetics and on-road performance were viewed as outdated, especially considering a redesigned Acura Legend coupe was launched in 1991. The interior came in for criticism for its outdated ergonomics and lack of room. While the Japanese-market Leopard had received a new dashboard along with the 1988 facelift, economics precluded making a left-hand-drive version of the new dashboard and the M30 was instead fitted with the LHD version of the R31 Skyline's rectilinear dashboard, first presented in 1985.

The M30 made up for these deficiencies in its somewhat lower price; whereas the 1990 Acura Legend coupe started at $27,325 before options and the 1990 BMW 325i started at $24,650 before options, the M30 started at $23,500, and had no factory options, per Infiniti's pricing structure used at the time. Dealerships offered an in-car cellular telephone and in-dash CD player as optional accessories, amongst other items.

The contact stated that while making a left turn from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle drove 2 MPH and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that as he released the accelerator pedal and depressed it again, he was able to drive the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure.   • Summary: Driveshaft malfunctioning. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Driveshaft malfunctioning is causing the vehicle to shake violently at speeds above 60 mph. My safety and others safety is put at risk when I'm accelerating above 60 mph and the vehicle begins to shake violently causing the vehicle to veering into on coming traffic or nearby lanes. This problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This problem first appeared about 4 years ago but progressively gotten worse. In December 13, 2020 — An Infiniti driveshaft recall includes more than 2,700 vehicles with driveshafts that may break. The recalled vehicles include 2011-2013 Infiniti M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014 Q70 and 2014 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid vehicles. Unfortunately, my vehicle wasn't included in this recall and it yet should.

THE PASSENGER JUST NEEDS TO SIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES TO EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY PROPERLY AS THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS FALSELY TRIGGERING A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR WILL SOMETIMES BE ON OR OFF WHEN THE SEAT BELT LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER TAKING THE CAR BACK AND FORTH ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND TO MULTIPLE INFINITI DEALERSHIPS, WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TO GET TO THE PROBLEM. ONE OF THE DEALERSHIP WAS FINALLY ABLE TO CONCLUDE IT WAS DUE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR. EVEN HAD AN INFINITI ENGINEER FROM THE NORTHER CA REGION CONFIRM THE ISSUE WAS INDEED DUE TO THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR. THIS ISSUE WAS FIRST REPORTED WHEN UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY HOWEVER INFINITI AND INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS WILL NOT HONOR THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. ALSO I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY JUST FOR THIS PURPOSE HOWEVER THIS PART IS NOT COVERED.

  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (INFINITI) is recalling certain 2011-2013 M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014-2018 Q50, Q70 Hybrid, 2014-2019 Q70, and 2015-2019 Q70L two-wheel drive vehicles. The driveshaft can fatigue and break.
  • Consequence: A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's numbers for this recall are R24A5 and R24A7.

    I hope you're enjoying your new car! It's definitely a lot of fun to drive. However, if you're looking for a car with good mileage, this might not be the best option for you. The 400 HP V8 engine is incredibly powerful, which is great if you're looking for speed and performance.

    We have owned this car for three years and unfortunately have had to take it in for multiple repairs. Recently, a piece broke off and caused shards of metal to go into the engine, resulting in the need for a new engine. Despite our request for assistance with the cost, Infinity declined to help. We are disappointed that a part was used that could cause such significant damage and that certain parts for this 2011 model are no longer available. We urge potential buyers to carefully consider these factors before making a purchase.

    I've been driving a BMW 550i since its first release in 2006 and I must say, I've had a lot of fun and appreciation towards my Beemer. However, I didn't notice any substantial improvement from the 2006 to 2008 model, even though the horsepower remained the same. This year, the horsepower has been increased to 400, but the price has also jumped to almost 1.5 times. So, I decided to take a look at other brands such as Audi, Lexus, and Acura. Eventually, I ended up at the Infiniti showroom. Although I wasn't initially thrilled about the exterior, the performance of the car is outstanding. The comfortable seating, smooth driving, and 420 horsepower really blew me away. Additionally, the navigation system, rearview camera, and gear mode changing are all excellent.

    I've owned many luxury and sports luxury cars, but this is my first Infiniti and it's been the most fun to drive. While the acceleration isn't as smooth as some competitors, the power is excellent. Overall, my ownership experience has been excellent, despite a few hiccups.

    Having previously owned a G-35X, I must say that the M-56X is quite a beast! While it may not have the same handling characteristics as the G-35, which were fantastic, the M is a bigger car with 420 ponies under the hood that are just awesome. Unfortunately, we had to get rid of it and replace it with an SUV, so now there is an Outback in the garage. I already miss the M!

    Although Infiniti has made significant improvements to the M for 2011, there are still some areas that require attention. While I am fond of my M56, I have noticed that certain features worked better on my '08 M45, such as XM NavTraffic, which is not as reliable on the M56 and other 2010+ Infiniti models. Additionally, some features are counterintuitive, like the armrest button that you press OUT to fold the side mirrors IN, and the song selection button that you press UP to switch to the next song DOWN on the list. The doors lock automatically at 15mph, which may not be ideal for everyone. Furthermore, there is limited ability to customize the warning/intervention systems, which may lead one to turn them off. Overall, I still enjoy my M56, but there is room for improvement.

    I had an E550 that I liked a lot, but it wasn't very sporty. However, the interior of the new car is much nicer than the E550 and the performance is about the same. I love the change, but I have nothing bad to say about the E550. I also like the larger feel of the Infinity. I think the E550 is more expensive when you consider option for option.
