2009 Infiniti Fx35 problems
The Infiniti QX70, formerly called the Infiniti FX until 2013, is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced by the Nissan-owned Infiniti luxury vehicle brand between 2002 and 2017. The FX replaced the QX4 as Infiniti's mid-size SUV. It shares the same FM platform as the rear-wheel drive Nissan 370Z, and it "made no claims of climbing mountains." Rather, its aggressive shape promised style and quick handling. The similarly sized Nissan Murano is based on the same D platform as the front-wheel drive Nissan Altima. The FX does not have a Nissan-branded equivalent and is not sold in Japan.
The FX introduced its second generation for the 2009 model year as the FX35 and FX50.
First generation (S50; 2003)
The nameplates FX35 and FX45 refer to the two available engines. The FX35 is available in two drivetrains, the RWD and the AWD, which are both fitted to a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 VQ35DE gasoline engine, with aluminum-alloy block and heads, electronically controlled throttle system, and low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons that makes use of the continuous variable valve timing which in part optimizes the opening of intake valves. This is also coupled with an electronically controlled super-wide ratio five-speed automatic with a manumatic shift mode that includes the option of sequentially selected manual gearshifts and downshift rev-matching.
The AWD FX45 incorporates a 4.5 L (4,494 cc) 32-valve V8 DOHC VK45DE gasoline engine with four valves per cylinder, microfinished camshafts with aluminum-alloy block and heads, low-friction molybdenum-coated pistons, titanium intake and exhaust valves, modular cylinder heads, microfinished crankshaft, lightweight pistons, super-silent single stage cam drive chain, and a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System that optimizes opening of intake valves. Development began in 1999 under newly appointed CEO Carlos Ghosn's NRP. Design work was completed in rapid succession in 2000, for late 2002 production. Designed prior to that, earlier on in 2000 under the "Bionic Cheetah" theme, the 2001 Infiniti FX45 Concept was introduced at the NAIAS in January 2001. From mid-2001, a new concept based on the production design was developed and completed in late 2001. Sketches were first released in late November 2001. The second-generation 2002 FX45 Concept was introduced in January 2002 at the NAIAS '02 as a thinly-veiled production FX (S50) and planned production was announced for early 2003. In January 2003, the 2003 FX45 made its debut at the 2003 NAIAS and went on sale January 24, 2003.
In 2003 for the 2004 model, changes were the addition of a standard eight-way power front passenger seat that replaced the previous four-way design, the availability of aluminum roof rails and chrome-plated 20-inch wheels. Also new were a dark silver metallic finish for the 20-inch wheels (non-chrome-plated), the addition of a standard HVAC filter for all models and the addition of a new Snow-Mode function.
In September 2004 for the 2005 model year, the FX range received enhancements such as a lane departure warning (LDW) system that helps alert drivers to an unintended movement of the vehicle out of a designated traffic lane. Infiniti's system monitored the lane markings to alert passengers via an audible buzzer that the driver is drifting unintentionally. The LDW system, which utilizes a small camera, speed sensor, an indicator, and an audible warning buzzer, was offered on models. The 2005 Infiniti FX was the first passenger vehicle to offer a lane departure warning system in the United States market. In addition to LDW, the 2005 Infiniti FX range was now equipped with standard roof-mounted curtain supplemental curtain airbags with rollover protection for front and rear outboard seat occupants.
Other changes included the addition of a dark chrome grille, headlight, and clear taillight accents to the FX45 (also available as part of the V6 Sport Package on FX35 models), a new key fob design for the Infiniti Intelligent Key system, and two new exterior colors, Sapphire and Sheer Platinum. Interior changes included a new standard etched aluminum trim.
Total 2007 sales of the FX45 were 1,598 units, about a tenth of the FX35s.

(Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2008 Infiniti EX35 vehicles equipped with the power tilt/telescope option included in the premium package, manufactured June 29, 2007, to April 25, 2008, 2009 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles manufactured October 31, 2007, to April 16, 2008, and 2009 Nissan GT-R vehicles manufactured March 14, 2007, to April 25, 2008. The steering column outer tube may not be round, resulting in extra stress being applied to the upper steering bearing. This stress may cause the bearing retainer to fracture, creating extra play in the steering wheel or a possible loss of steering.
- Consequence: Extra play in the steering wheel or a loss of steering may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering shaft on the Infiniti EX35, FX35, and FX45 vehicles, and will replace the steering column assembly on the Nissan GT-R vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on March 9, 2015. Infiniti owners may contact customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan owners may contact the GT-R hotline at 1-866-668-1487.

Our FX35 was purchased last February and has been a great investment. Although my partner had some reservations, I have been thoroughly satisfied with our purchase. The car is an absolute joy to drive and the interior is top-notch. While the exterior may take some getting used to, the car's performance more than makes up for it. Although there were a couple of issues, such as the poor rear visibility and the transmission's tendency to shift roughly, these have been resolved with the available transmission re-flash (ITB09-032). I highly recommend asking about it. Thank you, Infiniti!

After driving 1500 miles, I can confidently say that this SUV is a joy to drive. The steering and braking are responsive, and the power and torque are ample. The quilted leather seats with side bolsters and memory positions are very comfortable. Although it's not as quiet as some luxury cars, the excellent Bose system compensates for any exterior noise that does intrude. The all-around cameras make tight parking a snap, and I'm able to attain a reasonable 20 mpg combined. While the power latch on the rear hatch is nice, I do wish it had an auto-close feature like the competition. Additionally, upgrading maps in the future will require Infiniti service due to the built-in nav DVD. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

Favorite car I have ever owned. Considered and test drove many other high end cars, but wisely chose the FX. It's an eye catcher on the main roads, and a performing BEAST on the back roads!

Our 3rd FX35 since 2003 and 8th Infiniti overall since then. This model surpasses my previous 2003 and 2007 FX35 in every way. However, there are two areas that require improvement. The compass on the mirror has been removed and the compact flash reader is not fully functional. Unfortunately, there is no current support for this issue. The compass was particularly useful when navigation did not have an address in its database. Despite this, the little compass on the nav screen is still available to determine direction. The CD hard drive takes a considerable amount of time to copy songs into memory, rendering it essentially useless. Additionally, the compact flash reader can be quite selective and temperamental.

We purchased this car from a dealer and have been the only owners since it was leased. During the two years that we have owned it, we have only needed to perform regular maintenance as recommended by the dealer. This car has proven to be very reliable, as is often the case with Japanese cars. Recently, we had the transmission firmware updated and the transmission power flushed and changed, which has greatly improved its performance. In contrast, we have found that European cars, such as BMWs and VWs, often require frequent repairs that can cost between $100-300 each. The FX, on the other hand, has been a dependable car that has not required constant repairs or maintenance.

This is my second Infiniti after the '04 FX, which I really enjoyed. However, I am disappointed with the performance and fuel economy of my new 2009 FX35. Despite driving mostly in the city, my old car was showing about 13-14 mpg, and unfortunately, the new one is showing the same. The driving experience has been less than ideal, with shifting issues in slow traffic and a feeling of choking on fuel when starting to drive. I have taken the car to the dealer a few times, but despite their re-programming efforts, I have not seen any improvements. I hope to find a solution soon, as I have always been a fan of Infiniti cars.

Hello! Thank you for considering the Infiniti crossover. While it has some great features like a nice exterior and beautiful interior, I wanted to share my personal experience with the transmission. Unfortunately, I found the 7-speed transmission to be a bit disappointing. It shifts into 7th gear at only 25 mph, which can be frustrating. If you're looking for a similar car, I would recommend checking out the BMW x5 or x6, or the Mercedes ml 350. Of course, everyone's experience is different, so it's important to do your own research and make the best decision for you. Thank you for reading!

I recently purchased a fully loaded FX35, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with the car. While driving on the highway, I have noticed that the car hesitates to shift to a lower gear during acceleration, which can be frustrating. I reported this issue to the dealer and they informed me that Infiniti is aware of the problem but does not have a fix for it at this time. Additionally, there was a recall on the replacement of the Steering Column Electrical Tilt Motor. I also had to bring my car in to the dealer after only 5000 miles because the rear window needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, the dealer did not have the spare part in inventory at the time, which was disappointing. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the dealer will be able to resolve them soon.

This is my third Infiniti after driving an '04 FX and an '05 G35, which I enjoyed tremendously. Although I was excited to get the new and improved FX for '09 with its incredible new styling, I have unfortunately been disappointed with its performance. In slow and go traffic, the shifting is all over the place while it attempts to find the right gear, which can be frustrating. Unless I'm able to drive aggressively, I find the 7-speed transmission unacceptable. However, from a stop it performs great. Once at about 22 mph is where I realize issues. Several times, when coming to a stop I thought I got bumped from the rear as the car has lunged - it's just not smooth. :(

The transmission not only fails to upshift smoothly, but it also causes the engine to rev up to 5k as I am pulling in to a stop, which is a dangerous situation. This issue is similar to the one experienced by others and reminds me of the mid-80's Audi. In addition, the Nav screen functions intermittently, the iPod does not charge, and the brakes pull to the left and right. Despite being on a 4-year corporate lease, I would not recommend this machine.
