By the sixth-generation Accord at the end of the 1990s, it evolved into an intermediate vehicle, with one basic platform but with different bodies and proportions to increase its competitiveness against its rivals in different international markets. For the eighth-generation Accord released for the North American market in 2007, Honda had again chosen to move the model further upscale and increase its size. This pushed the Accord sedan from the upper limit of what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines as a mid-size car to just above the lower limit of a full-size car, with the coupe still rated as a mid-size car. In 2012, the ninth-generation Accord sedan, with smaller exterior dimensions, was once again classified as a mid-size car at 119 cubic feet (3.4 m3), falling just shy of the "Large Car" classification. However, the tenth-generation Accord sedan, with similar exterior dimensions, returned to full-size car status with its combined interior space of 123 cubic feet (3.5 m3); the coupe was discontinued in 2017.

In 1982, the Accord became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States when production commenced in Marysville, Ohio at Honda's Marysville Auto Plant. The Accord has achieved considerable success, especially in the United States, where it was the best-selling Japanese car for sixteen years (1982–97), topping its class in sales in 1991 and 2001, with around ten million vehicles sold. Numerous road tests, past and present, rate the Accord as one of the world's most reliable vehicles. The Accord has been on the Car and Driver 10Best list a record 38 times.

In 1989, the Accord was the first vehicle sold under an import brand to become the best-selling car in the United States. As of 2020, the Accord has sold more than 18 million units.

  • Summary: I've had head gasket failure twice and now turbo failure. I have documentation from John Eagle Honda to support as well as several others who are willing to do a Class Action Lawsuit in regards to the 10th generation Honda Accord 1.5 T and some of the other trims. I have a list of other owners like myself who have paid out of pocket constantly to get our vehicles fixed. My last straw for reaching out is when it stalled on me while on the interstate for the second time and almost getting in a horrible accident. Something has to be done, because at this point Honda has been called several times and acts if no one is reporting it when indeed they are. I have tons of documentation and proof to support my safety issue. I first paid for the head gasket in 2023, then again in 2024, now I'm being told the Turbo needs to be replaced of which it is in the shop currently and I was quoted 1700$. Something has to be done because of this issue I have spend a lot of money and none of my safety features worked during this time, the head gasket issue shuts down everything and can cause serious injury.

  • Summary: I took my car to be repaired because it was stalling and misfiring while accelerating, and 11 indicator lights were one (check engine, vehicle stability system warning, brake system warning, adaptive cruise control system). Also, my car smelled like radiator fluid was leaking from somewhere. The local Honda dealer’s service department could not get me an diagnostic appointment for more than 30 day, so I took it to a nearby mechanic shop that I had used before. First, they thought it needed a tune up, so that was done, the indicator lights were reset, and I was in my way. After returning 2 days later (because they weren’t open on Sunday), the mechanic notified me that my fuel injector needed to be replaced. The mechanic contacted the local Honda dealer for parts, and the parts/service member told him that part number for my specific make and model was updated, and he gave the mechanic an updated part number. Also, the parts dealers said that the part was on back order nationally. This was in February of 2024. In August of this year, I was able to get an diagnostic appointment at a dealer in another city, and they provided an update. They reported that there was an issue with the fuel system that needed further diagnosis, and that it would cost me an additional near $400 to do and that they might have to keep my car overnight to complete the diagnostic. Since the start of this issue, I still sometimes experience misfiring and jerking when I try to accelerate.

  • Summary: The issue I have been having since i bought the car has been a wobble/vibration from the front end. took the vehicle in to planet honda rt22 in union nj, where they told me my factory rims where bent which was false. i ended up selling my factory rims and buying a pair that i liked same size as factory. i put new wheels and tires on same problem. i then went back to the dealer ship for a second time told me they heard the bearings and proceeded to replace them as i approved the work. received vehicle drover for a couple days same issue went back for a third time and the technician stated my rims are bent again. i then became very upset as to if the tech knew how to diagnose a vehicle correctly. took car back drove it for almost a year with the vibration and wobble got car aligned several ties since the car started drifting and pulling both ways. went and took vehicle in to my personal mechanic where he showed me the front wheel bearings and intermediate shaft and bearing are bad. went back to honda on [XXX] with repeat concern with the same issue. took the dealership 5 hours to assign my vehicle to a tech that has no clue on how to inspect a vehicle bad for business. so dealership got back to me and stated that since vehicle was lowered they where not going to replace or fix the issues that are present i bought the vehicle used certified from them at 23k miles and have been having this issue since vehicle was purchased. i drive my wife and my 3 year old daughter in this car and with a car that has no control or stability and puts my family at risk just because they dont want to do a warranty job. i do have proof of bearings being replaced so they say also have proof of head gasket failure injector failure high pressure pump failure in tank pump failure. just have no way to upload. There were no warnings prior to the occurrence although the dashboard displayed the standard BRAKING warning when the ABS engages. This occurred just once at which point I have subsequently disabled the ABS whenever driving.

I called the Honda dealer to check and see if it is ready to have recall service, the person I spokes to said my car is not under recall. told the person that I received the recall letter in the past, but she said not all cars are under recall but only specific models, which mine was not included. I visited website that letter provided to check the eligibility, it does say, my car is under recall. I chatted with Honda about this and they were still saying mine is not under recall. I called to nhtsa hotline, the woman I spoke to, said yes. my car is under recall and told me to call the federal agency about this. This honda dealer was keep refusing the recall service, I have all the evidence of chat messages that they were lying. this need to be addressed because it is definetely related to someone's safety and they were ignoring of what they supposed to do.

I started the car and I was turning around when the engine stopped. I tried to get it started again for over an hour. The Honda Dealership is saying that the high pressure fuel pump has failed and it will be about $1600 for fix it. I am glad that it failed in the parking lot and NOT while I was driving it! There was no indications of any engine problems or bad performance. The vehicle has less than 37,000 miles. It is scary to think if this had happen in rush hour traffic.

  • Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Accord Sedan, Accord Hybrid, and 2019-2020 Insight vehicles. A software error may cause intermittent or continuous disruptions in communication between the Body Control Module (BCM) and other components. This may result in malfunctions of various systems such as the windshield wipers and defroster, rearview camera, exterior lights, audible warning of a stopped vehicle, and power window operation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems" and number 111, "Rear Visibility" as well as FMVSS numbers 104, 108, 114, 118, and 305.
  • Consequence: Various system malfunctions such as inoperative windshield wipers, defroster, rearview camera, or exterior lighting can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the BCM software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 22, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X95.

    I purchased this car with the expectation of getting great gas mileage, but unfortunately it has not lived up to my expectations. Despite my efforts to drive efficiently, I have only been able to achieve a maximum of 36 mpg, which is less than what my previous non-hybrid car achieved. When I brought this issue to the attention of the dealer, they were unable to find any problems with the car and suggested that it may be due to my driving. However, I find this hard to believe as I was able to achieve better mileage with my previous car. In fact, during a test drive of the Camry hybrid, I was able to achieve 52 mpg, which is significantly better than what I have been able to achieve with my current car. While the Accord may be less expensive, the Camry's accurate mpg and superior interior make it a better choice. Additionally, I have experienced issues with the car's information screen shutting down while driving, which has been a major inconvenience. Despite these issues, I remain hopeful that a computer update will resolve the problem. Overall, while my experience with this car has been disappointing, I believe that it may be an isolated case and that other Accord Touring Hybrid models may not have the same issues.

    With over 3 million miles of experience in trucking, Greyhound, and taxi ownership, and currently putting high miles on my Honda via Uber, I have come across some potentially serious issues. While these issues may only be present in my particular car, I feel it is important to point them out in case they are more widespread. These issues are sporadic and only occur occasionally, which can make them difficult to address with service managers. For example, the lane control occasionally wants to follow an exit lane, usually if it has a well-painted line exiting to the right. While this 'bug' is momentary and corrects itself quickly, it could potentially lead to an accident for an inexperienced driver who overcorrects. Additionally, the lane control will 'react' to white or light-colored vehicles in the right lane when passing them, which could be a potential issue for new, distracted, or tired drivers. As someone who has put over 10,000 miles on this car in three months, I have developed a good understanding of the vehicle, and these issues are rare in occurrence, yet they can catch one by surprise due to their infrequency. The worst issue I have experienced is having the automatic braking system kick in, usually when passing under large direction signs overhead for a brief period, as it looks to me like the system interprets the signs as barriers! This event just occurred without any barrier, sign, or reasonable explanation, which left me a bit shaken up. (As someone who has experienced pretty much everything as a professional driver, being shaken up is not something I take lightly!) Lastly, my vehicle has a quirk that I find outright dangerous. It has only occurred a few times and would be very hard to replicate by a service department. On freeways, at speeds of 60-70 MPH, and with a sudden hard brake to avoid a potential collision, the right front brake applies before the left, pulling the vehicle to the right. While it quickly corrects itself, it is flat out dangerous.The car's breaks work perfectly under normal driving conditions, with no issues until high speeds and hard braking. On the positive side, the ride and comfort are superb. The sensors are a great help when parallel parking and provide warnings when backing up. The turning radius is below average, likely due to the electric motor and gas engine being side by side, leaving less room for wheel turns. Therefore, be careful when parallel parking and maneuvering in tight spaces. Overall, it's a good car. The high-tech features are a work in progress, though. For now, I find that I can drive the car better on my own than with the cute assists.

    I purchased a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring a month ago. Although it seemed like a nice car at the time, I experienced some issues with it. I noticed a squeak in the dash on the third day, which persisted and grew worse. I took the car back to the dealer for repairs, but unfortunately, the issue persisted. Despite my attempts to resolve the issue with Honda of the Desert and American Honda, I was unable to find a satisfactory resolution. As a result, I made the decision to sell the car after 3.5 months of ownership. While I had some issues with the car, I am confident in my decision and would not recommend this particular model. When I dropped my car off for service on a Friday, I was assured by the service manager that everything was ready and that it would be ready by the next day. However, the next day came and went without any communication from Honda of the Desert. I decided to call them at 4 pm and was informed by the service rep that Honda did not approve the repair. This was completely inconsistent with what I was told before bringing the car in. Additionally, the quality of the vehicle was questionable at best. The stereo was subpar, and the material on the dash rubbed against the HUD trim, making a squeaking sound. The electronics with the lane keep and adaptive cruise were also not smooth in operation. Despite multiple attempts to fix these issues, they persisted. As a busy individual, I did not have the time to deal with a brand new car that was clearly a lemon. Unfortunately, Honda was more interested in putting up barriers than resolving warranty issues on a brand new car. I was frustrated by their resistance to resolve issues, and after careful consideration, I decided to sell the car. Although it was a difficult decision, it was ultimately the best one for me. I will be exploring other car brands in the future.I strongly advise anyone interested in purchasing a car to consider other brands besides Honda. Despite owning four Hondas over the years and conducting thorough research on the Honda Accord Hybrid, I have been sorely disappointed with my ownership and service experience. Honda's reputation, which initially guided my decision to purchase, has not been upheld in this case.

    I've read a lot of reviews and based on my own experience, I'd like to share my opinion on the 2019 Accord hybrid touring. First and foremost, let's talk about gas mileage. This car is a hybrid and it really does hit 48-50mpg. If you're wondering how to achieve high gas mileage, the secret is to use regenerative braking with the paddle shifters. The left (-) paddle shifter increases the brakes and pumps more power to recharge the batteries, while the right (+) paddle decreases the regenerative power and provides a small bump in speed. Now, let's move on to the pros of this stunning, aggressive-looking car. It's packed with lots of technology, and the one thing that it's missing is to show all 4 tire pressures on the screen live. However, it makes up for it with its smooth, luxurious ride. The car is extremely roomy and has lots of space, and the HUD is really cool. There are also lots of small but very useful features, such as auto-lock and auto-unlock by touching the door handle. The auto-dimming rearview mirrors and LED headlights with auto-high beam are great too. Honda sensing is good and the engine is not as loud as some make it seem. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by this car and highly recommend it.- This car has top-notch safety features and feels super safe without any sacrifices. However, the handling is mediocre compared to my old 2014 Accord and 2015 BMW. Although, I have used regen braking on turns and it's fine. Still not stellar though.- The braking distance is long WITHOUT regen braking. But, if you brake correctly using the Regen braking on the paddle shifters, braking distance is perfectly acceptable and should never be a problem. It also drastically increases mileage because the battery will be used more. As a bonus, using the regen braking also saves $$ because the pads will last longer. Note: The gas engine in this car is mainly used as a generator for the battery power. It is also used for A/C and for going at speeds above ~50mph. There is no transmission. I've driven 200 miles (on and off) and have only used about 1/5 a tank of gas around the city and highway. This car is amazing. However, it would be great if Honda could add more tire pressure instrumentation.

    After conducting extensive research online, I found myself struggling to choose between the standard Accord and the hybrid and standard Camry, as well as being unsure about the different trims. However, I am thrilled to say that I ultimately decided to purchase the Accord Hybrid base model, which I have now owned for three weeks. It has been an absolute pleasure to drive, surprisingly quick, and most importantly, it brings me peace during my long commute. The car is incredibly smooth and the interior is functional without being overly busy. Additionally, it is a significant improvement over the 1.5t, and I appreciate that the gas engine is naturally aspirated. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I'm happy to report that I'm consistently getting over 50 MPG, which is fantastic! In my opinion, this car is even better than my previous Toyota Avalon and Audi A4. The technology in this car is top-notch and really suits my needs. It's comfortable, easy to drive, and has the power to handle any situation safely. If the reliability of this car lives up to Honda's reputation, it will easily become my all-time favorite car!

    When we were looking to buy a car two years ago, we test-drove several brands including Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Mazda. However, when we got to the Hondas, we were blown away by the interior. It felt just right with excellent window visibility all around, clean and simple dash and control layout, and by far the best seats. The human factors engineering was really impressive. Although most data on hybrid cars shows that their actual fuel economy comes in at 15-20% below the EPA, due to differences between the EPA testing protocol and true driving conditions, especially in mountainous areas like where we live, we are still getting a great 42 mpg (compared to the EPA rating of 48/48 mpg). After a year of use, we have consistently been getting 50 mpg in our rural/suburban area with most driving at 50mph or under. The only exceptions are when we cruise on the interstate at 70 mph, where the mileage drops to 45mpg due to wind resistance, and during winter when the engine runs more for heat, causing a drop of 5mpg or so. However, now that it's spring and no heat is required, we're back to 50mpg. We have had no problems at all in 1 year / 10,000 miles. One thing to note is that the owner's manual that comes with the car is just the basics. However, you can download the full 600+ page manual that explains all of the gauges and settings in great detail for free on Honda.com. It's well worth doing!

    The 12 volt battery has been replaced twice in 3 years and 45,000 miles, both times covered by warranty. However, it seems to be a common issue among owners. While the EPA estimates 48 MPG, it is unlikely to achieve this. The hybrid version still achieves a respectable 39 mpg, but falls short of the advertised 48/48/48. The ride is great and very quiet, with awesome safety features. It is important to shop wisely as out the door prices can vary widely.
