Gmc Sierra 2500 problems

The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.

The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.

History

The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).

For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.

In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common Gmc Sierra 2500 problems

The GMC Sierra 2500 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequent issues is related to the 4WD Transfer Case Position Sensor/Selector Switch, which may fail. This can lead to problems with the transfer case, affecting the vehicle's four-wheel-drive capabilities.

Another common problem area is the fuel system, with issues such as faulty fuel cooling hoses and pumps. These problems can lead to check engine lights, reduced engine power, and even engine failure. In some cases, these issues have been attributed to supply chain shortages, making it difficult for owners to obtain necessary parts for repairs.

The exhaust system has also been a source of complaints, with issues such as muffler, pipe, and catalytic converter problems. These issues can lead to reduced performance, increased noise, and even safety concerns.

The braking system has also been reported to have issues, with problems such as premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, and antilock system problems. These issues can lead to longer stopping distances and even accidents, posing a significant safety concern for owners.

Finally, the headlights have been a source of frustration for many owners, with complaints about dim headlights and even complete failure. This can lead to reduced visibility and safety concerns, particularly when driving at night or in low-light conditions.

These are just a few of the common problems reported by GMC Sierra 2500 owners. While some of these issues may be covered under warranty, others may require costly repairs, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction among owners.

  • Date Complaint: 2024-09-09
  • VIN: 1GT49NEY1PF
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: 2023 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel with 10 speed Allison Transmission with 28,000 miles can't be driven. Currently at the dealership due to a transmission valve body problem, codes P0700 & P0747. While driving I felt a hard shift and the truck jerk. The engine light came on and my truck went into low power mode. Let it sit over night and truck would shift fine. This happened 3 times over a 1 month period. After getting to the Chevy dealer they told me the issue is with he valve body and said they have been having multiple trucks come in with the same problem. They have a truck in there since May (4 months!) They told me there is no ETA for the part. I've read this is a common issue happening on 2023 & 2024 trucks like mine. I've read that the problems have been going on for over 1 year. This is ridiculous for a $90,000.00 truck. GM should be putting new transmissions in them or buying the trucks back. I'm considering contacting an attorney to inquire about the lemon law or what other avenues I can take regarding getting the truck fixed, and fixed properly.

This GMC may not be the flashiest ride, but it's got some power under the hood with a 6.0 liter engine and 4.10 rear end. While it may not be the most fuel efficient, averaging around 14 mpg, it has the potential to get up to 15 mpg on a flat highway. There have been a few minor issues, such as a jerky transmission, radio failure, rattle in the steering shaft, center console latch, and noisy heater fan, but overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase and hoping for a long run.

I bought this 5.7L extended cab with an extended bed new, with an experimental paint. It wasn't bad, but it wore early. I absolutely love the truck, it can tow and haul anything in 3/4 ton, and the fuel economy is decent. I get better fuel economy than the 454, but worse than the turbo diesel... I do wish I had gotten the turbo diesel now. I love the truck to death!

The drive train is performing very well at this point. However, the ride is a major disappointment. Have you noticed that they come with such small tires for this size truck? It's a shame.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my GMC. I bought it with 141,000 miles and it had been well taken care of. I've never had any issues with it and the maintenance has been very minimal. In fact, I find it more enjoyable to drive than my Lincoln Continental! It has an excellent ride and handles heavy loads with ease. It's definitely the best pickup I've ever owned. The four wheel push button has been a lifesaver on numerous occasions and works flawlessly. The only issue I've had was with a rear tail light, but it was an easy and inexpensive fix at only $30.00. Overall, I highly recommend the GMC and have had a great experience with it. Let me know if you have any questions!

The truck performed well overall, but the idler arm needed to be replaced within the first year.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that the 1994 GMC Sierra SLE Extended Cab Pickup has been performing really well for me, especially when it comes to 5th wheel towing - which is exactly why I bought it!

Lately, I've been experiencing an issue where the 4WD light comes on intermittently. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting procedures from the Chilton manual didn't help much, and I ended up replacing the front diff actuator motor unnecessarily. After some investigation, it turns out that the real culprit is a sticky selector switch. It seems that humidity may be affecting this switch, causing the resistors to fail for each position and lose the ability to keep a voltage signal to the transfer case module. On the bright side, the original battery lasted an impressive 6 years! Additionally, I discovered a leak at the front differential. At first, I thought it was the output seal, but it ended up being the plastic vent cap that screws into the diff.

I've been a truck owner for years and I must say, the motor size used to spook me at first. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that for its size and power, it gets a decent 15mpg in the city! Not only that, but it's also incredibly comfortable and has never let me down. Currently, the motor has 210,512 miles and it's still going strong. I've noticed that it seems to be happiest running loaded. I'm really hoping that it lasts as long as my last truck, which was a 78 Chevrolet 1/2tn. That one made it all the way to 475,000 miles before I sold it, and it was still running great. By the way, I call my trucks by names, and this one is well on its way to matching the old Beastly!
