EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-09-26
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: KMTF54PH3LU
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: ONE NIGHT SHORTLY AFTER I PICKED UP MY 2020 GENESIS G90, I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A CITY STREET WHEN I NOTICED SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY HEADLIGHTS. AS I WAS DRIVING I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THEM. I KEPT THINKING THAT THERE WAS AN OBSTRUCTION ON THE HEADLIGHTS THAT WAS CAUSING SOME DARKENED AREAS RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF MY FIELD OF VISION. WHILE TRYING TO DETERMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THIS, I WAS MOMENTARILY DISTRACTED AND I BRUSHED UP AGAINST A CURB CAUSING A NASTY INCIDENCE OF 'CURB RASH' ON MY FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL. SO MY BRAND-NEW G90 WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES ON IT WAS NOW DISFIGURED. THE GOOD NEWS IS I CAN GET A BRAND-NEW WHEEL INSTALLED FOR ONLY $1,025! AFTER DROPPING EIGHTY GRAND ON THE G90, THIS WAS ACTUALLY EXTRAORDINARILY BAD NEWS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED ADJUSTMENT. I WAS INFORMED THAT "GENESIS WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT". I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY DEFECT SINCE THESE DARKENED AREAS OBSTRUCT A CLEAR VIEW OF THE ROAD AT NIGHT.

ON 2/12/2020 (1 WEEK AFTER PURCHASE), CALLED THE DEALER TO REPORT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THEY TALKED TO GENESIS AND GENESIS SAID THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF A TIRE PROBLEM. ON 2/18/2020, A SECOND DEALER (SMYRMA, GA) REBALANCED THE TIRES. DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 2/23/2020, A THIRD GENESIS DEALER SAID THAT SOME CONTINENTAL TIRES HAD A PROBLEM AND WERE BEING REPLACED. ON 3/16/2020, CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALER TO INFORM THEM ABOUT THE TIRE PROBLEM AGAIN. ON 3/27/2020, WAS TOLD ,BY THE ORIGINAL DEALER, TO CALL GENESIS AND REPORT THE PROBLEM (CASE # 16932384). GENESIS SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING AND SHOULD CALL CONTINENTAL. ON 3/27/2020, CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALER TO HAVE THEM CALL CONTINENTAL TIRE. ON 4/2/2020, THE ORIGINAL DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT GET A RESPONSE FROM CONTINENTAL TIRE AND I SHOULD CALL CONTINENTAL TIRE DIRECTLY. ON 4/2/2020, CALLED CONTINENTAL TIRE AND THEY SAID I SHOULD GO TO A LOCAL TIRE DEALER. THE LOCAL TIRE DEALER, AFTER TALKING WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE, SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE TIRES, BUT I COULD BUY A NEW SET OF TIRES FOR 50% OFF.

Negative 2020 Genesis G90 car reviews

  1. Friedrich Kutch 2025-03-29

This car is undeniably a remarkable vehicle and an absolute joy to drive. Despite the unfortunate discontinuation of the Genesis brand by the dealership I purchased from in Jan 2020, I remain confident in the car's exceptional quality. While the Valet service was a significant selling point for me, I understand that it is provided by the dealership and is limited to a radius of about 50 miles from the dealership. Although I was disappointed to learn this, I remain satisfied with my purchase and the luxury experience it provides. My confidence in the Genesis brand remains unwavering, and I look forward to continuing to enjoy my exceptional vehicle.

  2. Dameon Considine 2025-01-01

Hi there! I recently purchased a brand new G90 at full MSRP from Genesis, who stated that they would provide required vehicle maintenance for 3 years and a loaner car. Unfortunately, I have discovered that loaners are not actually provided, and I have been struggling to get routine service and a serious warranty issue handled since June 16, 2020. Despite my efforts, the car was not picked up for service today, August 2, 2021, and I was informed that no loaner would be provided. Can you please help me resolve this issue? Thank you!

  3. Oran Beatty 2024-10-28

I have experienced poor customer service, particularly from Lisa in the case department (case #16737287). In the past, I have had to change the front tires three times within 8000 miles, resulting in significant delays. Based on my experience, I would advise against purchasing this car. However, I regret my decision to buy it.

Positive 2020 Genesis G90 car reviews

  1. Charles Sporer 2025-06-29

After almost 4 years of ownership, I have driven my car for less than 24 thousand miles, but I still believe it is an excellent value. I purchased a brand new 2019 Genesis Ultimate G-90 V-8 all-wheel-drive sedan in February 2020. Previously, I owned two new Lexus LS Sedans, but I find the G-90 to be just as good. I was disappointed with the new LS sedan from Lexus, which removed the V-8 and made the styling unappealing. In contrast, the G-90 Ultimate V-8 AWD is a handsome and capable machine with an excellent ride, outstanding road feel, and impressive fit and finish. It is also a great value compared to similar models from Mercedes and Lexus, and I believe it is even better than the Lexus. With a 124-inch wheelbase, the ride is limousine smooth with a competent suspension. On our Southern Virginia back roads, my wife complains that I drive it like my Corvette, because it takes the curves and hills and high crowned roads at high speed with ease. The eight-speed transmission is silky smooth, and the 5-liter 420 horsepower fuel-injected V-8 makes passing on 2-lane backcountry roads a breeze. The cars being passed must wonder what that blurry Bentley-like car was because it went by so fast, they had no clue as to its make. The interior is incredibly comfortable, and I can load up the trunk with many hundreds of pounds of cargo without affecting the engine, transmission, or suspension. This all-wheel-drive V-8 powered silky smooth machine is a great value at $50,000 less than a Benz S-class, just like the original Lexus LS sedans in the early and mid-2000s before Lexus ruined them and upped the price. I recommend snagging a low mileage V-8 one because the turbo V-6 engine they are putting in the new Genesis cars is not as good as the V-8.The all wheel drive works wonderfully in slippery conditions at low and high speed. These cars are a joy and a steal. Everywhere I go and park, I return to find someone gawking at the car and inevitably asking me what it is and how much I like it. This car is a keeper. Along with the Lexus LX 570, the V-8 G-90 AWD Ultimate is a road car with manners that handles road imperfections with aplomb and carves through sharp hilly curves as if it was a train on railroad tracks. It is comfortable, handles excellently, has smooth and powerful acceleration, and amazingly good gas mileage. The service has been great at my local dealer. If I didn’t already have a G-90 AWD V-8, I would go looking for a 2022 today. Everything I said in the original review still pertains. We have taken this car on many long road trips and it performs almost as well as my Corvette ragtop, yet the ride is so silky smooth and comfortable that my wife with a just replaced knee can ride home from the hospital in it comfortably in the back seat as if she was in a stretched limo. The right rear seat has a 22 position adjustment with heat and cooling. 2022 was the last year for the naturally aspirated 420 horsepower 5 liter V-8, so if you can snag a newer low mileage G-90 Ultimate AWD, hurry up before they are gone. The 2023 and later models are V-6 ONLY and the price tag has gone up by almost $30,000. HURRY UP before the 2022’s with the V-8 are gone! You will not regret it. UPDATE in November of 2023: This is still a great touring sedan with impeccable road manners and an athletic suspension with an agile and responsive drivetrain. If you can find a used G-90 Ultimate all wheel drive with the 5.0 420horsepower V-8, BUY IT. That wimpy V-6 with turbos is no match for this car.

I have owned and driven luxury vehicles from Lincoln, Cadillac, and Audi, but I must say that this one is the best deal ever! While it may not have the same level of execution as my Audi's, which had better handling, ride, fuel economy, and technology, the cost to achieve that level of luxury is not justified. Genesis has done an excellent job creating a seriously comfortable car with lots of goodies to wow you. Despite the challenges that Genesis faces in moving these cars due to the popularity of SUVs and a lack of brand prestige, I was able to make an awesome deal at the end of the year because of incentives and get one for over $10K below list. What was already a great deal, became an awesome deal. At this price, I can sacrifice not having a perfect luxury and I don't need to impress anyone with a spiffy badge on the car. This car is amazing, and I love the comfort it provides. While it may not have the same performance as German automobiles and the fuel economy is not up to par with the competition, I am still getting an average of 23-24 mpg highway on ethanol blends, and 25-26 mpg on no ethanol premium. I can sacrifice some fuel economy for what I paid. The one big knock is the sound system, which occasionally shuts off on long trips. However, I have found a solution to this problem, which is to stop the car, turn it off, walk away to get the key fob out of range of the car and come back, start it up and go again. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable luxury car.I checked out the Genesis owners blog and noticed that many people have had similar experiences, but unfortunately, Genesis has not provided any solutions as this is a non-replicable problem. Despite this, I am still very pleased with my G90 after 3 years and 24,000 miles. The only other issue I have encountered is an occasional problem with the trunk release button on the dash not activating the trunk decklid. Other than that, this car has been a dream. It is incredibly comfortable, even on long road trips of 10 hours or more, unlike other vehicles I own. We have taken this car on 1000+ mile trips at least 4 times and have always loved the comfort it provides. The car does sit a bit low, especially when fully loaded, and can bottom out when going over some obstacles like speed bumps in parking lots. However, this is a minor issue compared to the overall satisfaction I have with this car. Although the new models have more eye appeal and refined features, I still believe that my purchase was an awesome value. The new models are now listed for $20K more than when I bought mine 3 years ago, but much of that can be attributed to inflation and increased brand recognition since Genesis has successfully launched Motor Trend winners like the G70, GV70, and this year the G90. Genesis' parent company, Hyundai, is now working with dealerships to require a separate facility for Genesis and Hyundai sales and service. As a result, there will be fewer Genesis dealerships as many have decided not to incur the expense of building a new facility for Genesis. In my opinion, not having separate facilities for the Genesis brand has hurt sales. Upscale buyers may not have wanted to feel like they were in a 'budget' facility that lacked upscale amenities available at other luxury dealerships. I believe this should be changed over the next couple of years.

I purchased a 2017 Genesis G90 5.0 AWD off the showroom floor in May 2017 and I absolutely loved that car! When I saw the 2020 refresh, I knew I had to have one. However, wanting one and getting one were two different things. First, they were sold in Korea and Canada long before I could even order one in the United States. Finally, in late January 2020, I was able to order one in Uyuni White with the Beige and Havana Interior. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and South Korea shut down the Genesis factory. I had actually given up hope of ever getting one, but low and behold, I finally got my car on May 20th. Even with the COVID scare, I went to the dealership and relinquished my 2017 for a brand new 2020 G90. The only thing that could get me out of the 2017 G90 5.0 AWD Ultimate was a 2020 G90 5.0 AWD Ultimate. It might be my imagination, but the 2020 seems to actually ride better than the 2017. Of course, a brand new car will probably always ride better than a three-year-old car, everything else being equal. Having said that, I loved the 2017 and I love the 2020 for all the same reasons - ultimate luxury, power, and coddling interior with lots of features. Really, this is a fantastic bargain for the price. Yes, $79,000 for a car can hardly be called a bargain unless you compare it to the German top-end cars that cost north of $100,000 (usually WAY north!). The 2017 was a fantastic car with no major problems (except for a mass airflow sensor) for 3 years and 32,000 miles, and I expect this one will be as trouble-free. If it isn't, they have a great warranty and free loaner cars along with concierge pick-up and drop-off. I have had a lot of nice cars in my 72 years, but the 2017 and now the 2020 rank right up there at the top, and I include a couple of Germans in my past. These are great cars at a great price that is not well advertised, and most people have no idea what a I've noticed that not many people seem to be familiar with the 2017 and 2020 models, as I've received a lot of blank stares when mentioning them. Admittedly, with many people staying home, there are fewer opportunities for questions. However, I believe that if the Genesis Division of Hyundai were to build stand-alone dealerships and increase their advertising efforts, they could potentially sell more. In the three years that I owned the 2017 model, I only saw two other G90's on the road or in parking lots. As for the 2020 model, I have only seen one, and it happens to be in my garage!

  4. Dewayne Ruecker 2025-03-11

I've been driving a fully loaded Audi A8 for the past 3 years and recently decided to check out the G90. I've had it for about a month now and I'm very happy with it. It has all the features of the A8 and provides a quieter, smoother ride. Although it may not have the same brand recognition as the A8, it offers everything else at a much more affordable price!

  5. Ashton Douglas 2025-02-25

I love just getting into the car, never mind driving it. It's luxury at a great price. Even though it's 3 years old, people still say what a great looking car it is, and my response is always 'wait until you drive it' - it's even better!
