Genesis G90 problems

The Genesis G90 is a full-size car manufactured since 2015 by the South Korean company Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Company. A four-door sedan, the G90 is the successor of the Hyundai Equus and was known as the Genesis EQ900 in South Korea from 2015 to 2019.
First generation (HI; 2015)
The Genesis G90 debuted in South Korea on December 9, 2015 as the Genesis EQ900.
The US market debut took place at the 2016 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in September 2016 at Genesis retailers as 2017 model year vehicles. Powertrains available included the 3.3T, 3.3T HTRAC, 5.0, 5.0 HTRAC.

Common Genesis G90 problems
The Genesis G90 is a luxury sedan that has been praised for its comfort, interior, and performance. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported with this vehicle.
One of the most significant issues reported by owners is engine problems with the 5.0-liter engine in the G90 Ultimate AWD model. One owner reported that their car had a myriad of problems, including noise and vibration issues, and eventually went into limp mode after hard acceleration. The dealership was unable to identify the problem for over two months, and it was eventually found that a rocker arm was never installed in the #1 cylinder valve train. This issue highlights serious concerns with Genesis' quality control processes, and the owner ultimately hired a lemon law lawyer to seek a remedy.
Another issue reported by owners is anxiety-prone driver safety features. The 2023 Genesis G90 has a number of safety features that are designed to assist drivers, but some owners have reported that these features can be overly sensitive and cause unnecessary anxiety. For example, the lane departure warning system can be overly aggressive, causing the car to suddenly jerk back into the lane.
The new V6 engines in the 2023 Genesis G90 also have poor fuel economy. Genesis has ditched the 5.0-liter V8 for a pair of twin-turbo V6 engines for this year. While these engines produce more horsepower, they also consume more fuel. This can be a significant drawback for owners who are looking for a luxury sedan that is both powerful and fuel-efficient.
Consumer Reports expects the 2024 G90 to have about average reliability when compared to other new cars. However, it is important to note that the G90 has had some reliability issues in the past. For example, the 2018 Genesis G90 had below-average reliability, with owners reporting problems with the car's engine, transmission, and electrical system.
In summary, while the Genesis G90 is a luxurious and capable sedan, it is not without its issues. Owners have reported problems with the engine, safety features, and fuel economy. It is important for potential buyers to do their research and consider these issues before making a purchase.
What is the problem with the Genesis G90?
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023 Genesis G90 vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side, passenger-side, and rear seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
Is the Genesis G90 a reliable car?
That's only somewhat true. According to consumerreports.com, the Genesis G90 has a reliability rating of about two out of five. That's not very good, even compared to other luxury sedans. But not every source is as negative.
How long will a Genesis G90 last?
The Genesis G90 can last for more than 40,000 miles and even up to 100,000 or more miles without many issues.
Do Genesis have engine problems?
Genesis is recalling 2019-2022 G70 sedans, 2018-2020 G80 sedans, and 2017-2022 G90 sedans equipped with 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engines because an oil leak may develop and cause a fire. 28,349 vehicles are included in the vehicle. Earlier this month, Kia recalled some vehicles for the same issue with the same engine.

- Date Complaint: 2023-09-13
- VIN: KMTF34PA9MU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: This is not about a tire failure but rather dangerous mis sizing of tires from factory.I bought the car new. It was never in an accident or had a flat tire and did not have service call until this week at 13000 or so miles.the service included tire rotation and balance, but the service man called and said he wasn’t going to do it because the driver rear tire was the wrong size!!!! It was supposed to be 275/40 R19 101W but was 245/45R19 98W. The two front tires are 245’s as they should be but BOTH rears are supposed to be the 275’s! Clearly this affects handling, wear, stability etc. I’m a very careful driver but someone less careful could roll over on a fast corner turn! How many more Hyundai/ Genesis tires are mis sized? No one checks that when you buy a car!

Genesis G90 2022
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-06
- Date Complaint: 2022-11-16
- VIN: KMTF34PA5NU
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Seat memory #1 was working when I purchased the vehicle on 9/30/2021. Meaning as I got into and started the vehicle the seat automatically went into the correct driver's position to safely drive the vehicle. It was later learned that one of the options on the vehicle was an easy out feature. Meaning the seat would move back all the way so the driver could easily exit the vehicle. The seat at this time did not go back all the way. So, the dealership installed the new part on April 6, 2022, to correct the easy out feature. After the new part was installed the seat memory for #1 would not work at all as before. Meaning the seat would not go into the number #1 position to drive the vehicle safely. Also, the new part after the installation did not correct the easy out situation either meaning the seat will not move all the way back at all for an easy out. Now when I get out of the vehicle, I have to manually repeat manually move the seat all the way back and down to force myself repeat force myself to hit the number #1 seat position when I get back into the vehicle to reset the seat in order to safety drive the vehicle. The dealership has said per Genesis the seat is operating as designed. I was not informed of this design flaw when I purchased the vehicle and if I was, I never would have purchased the vehicle.

Vehicle year: 2017
When Covid first hit, I found myself sequestered inside like many others. However, I decided to make the most of my time by researching luxury cars. I visited dealerships and test drove various models, including those from MB S class, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Lexus, Infinity, Cadillac, and Tesla. After months of searching, I narrowed down my choices based on three key factors. Firstly, I wanted a driver's seat that would keep me comfortable even after an all-day drive. Secondly, I wanted a car that would make me smile every time I looked at it and drove it. And finally, I didn't want to spend a fortune on scheduled maintenance. After careful consideration, I focused on the Lexus LS, the Lincoln Continental, and the Genesis G90. I researched customer reliability and cost of ownership, and ultimately chose the Lexus LS for its reliability and comfortable seats. I hope this information helps you in your own car search! With many of the cars, my top two choices were fulfilled. However, in the end, the Lincoln with its pilot engineering, 30 adjustable seats, and massage feature that takes only 20 minutes to dial in to your exact body type, and the Genesis, which offers everything you need in one package, including Apple Car Play, won me over. No more trim levels or hidden costs! This is why I decided to drop the Lexus. Although Lexus has proven to be dependable over the decades, I couldn't justify spending 100 grand after tax on a car that doesn't even come with a decent stereo system. The Genesis G90, on the other hand, exceeded my expectations. All I had to do was link my Apple phone through Bluetooth and I could listen to any music I wanted, from Rachmaninoff to the Carpenters, Billie Eilish to the Beatles. The G90 also has great looks, although it may seem like a mishmash of other luxury top lines, it has the best features and its cabin is quieter than any other car I've driven. Although the seat is not as good as the Lincoln's, the G90 has more power, a smoother transmission, and it gave me that extra smile factor. I love all the little things that come with these cars, but the G90 offers the best value for money, reliability, and all the wonderful little things that others charge much more for. During the pandemic, I almost gave up on my car shopping adventure due to low income, but then I received a call from a dealer I had contacted four months earlier, informing me that they had a black G90 with only 15k miles. I negotiated for a couple of hours that night and bought it the next morning. I've had it for a little over two years now and I absolutely love it!I love driving my Genesis! It's always waiting for me with its ears (side mirrors) perked up and ready to go. Even at night, it shines the Genesis logo (which kind of looks like the Batman symbol) on the ground beneath my feet. And when I turn it off after listening to my favorite artists, it sings a chime that makes me smile. Driving is such a big part of life, so why not make it fun and enjoyable? Plus, I got mine for a great price of $31,500, which is less than a new Prius. With gas prices so high, it's a great investment that will pay off in the long run. I understand that some people have had issues with their local Genesis dealer, but I've had a great experience so far. It's been a couple of years now, and my G90 still puts a smile on my face every time I get in it!

I love just getting into the car, never mind driving it. It's luxury at a great price. Even though it's 3 years old, people still say what a great looking car it is, and my response is always 'wait until you drive it' - it's even better!

I've only had it for a week, but I absolutely love the ride and the abundance of luxury it offers! Everyone at work has been complimenting it, which is great. Learning the many features wasn't too hard either. As for reliability, I can't confidently speak on that just yet.

I recently test drove the G90 Ultimate AWD and was thoroughly impressed. Having previously driven the Equus, I noticed a significant improvement in refinement, particularly in the comfortable seats and updated electronics. The drive itself was superior to any other car I have experienced. At such a great price point, I cannot recommend the Genesis G90 enough. If you are in the market for a luxury large sedan, I highly suggest taking the G90 for a test drive. You will be pleasantly surprised!

This car is undeniably a remarkable vehicle and an absolute joy to drive. Despite the unfortunate discontinuation of the Genesis brand by the dealership I purchased from in Jan 2020, I remain confident in the car's exceptional quality. While the Valet service was a significant selling point for me, I understand that it is provided by the dealership and is limited to a radius of about 50 miles from the dealership. Although I was disappointed to learn this, I remain satisfied with my purchase and the luxury experience it provides. My confidence in the Genesis brand remains unwavering, and I look forward to continuing to enjoy my exceptional vehicle.

Hi there! I recently purchased a brand new G90 at full MSRP from Genesis, who stated that they would provide required vehicle maintenance for 3 years and a loaner car. Unfortunately, I have discovered that loaners are not actually provided, and I have been struggling to get routine service and a serious warranty issue handled since June 16, 2020. Despite my efforts, the car was not picked up for service today, August 2, 2021, and I was informed that no loaner would be provided. Can you please help me resolve this issue? Thank you!
