Genesis G90 problems

The Genesis G90 is a full-size car manufactured since 2015 by the South Korean company Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai Motor Company. A four-door sedan, the G90 is the successor of the Hyundai Equus and was known as the Genesis EQ900 in South Korea from 2015 to 2019.
First generation (HI; 2015)
The Genesis G90 debuted in South Korea on December 9, 2015 as the Genesis EQ900.
The US market debut took place at the 2016 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in September 2016 at Genesis retailers as 2017 model year vehicles. Powertrains available included the 3.3T, 3.3T HTRAC, 5.0, 5.0 HTRAC.

Common Genesis G90 problems
The Genesis G90 is a luxury sedan that has been praised for its comfort, interior, and performance. However, there are some common problems that owners have reported with this vehicle.
One of the most significant issues reported by owners is engine problems with the 5.0-liter engine in the G90 Ultimate AWD model. One owner reported that their car had a myriad of problems, including noise and vibration issues, and eventually went into limp mode after hard acceleration. The dealership was unable to identify the problem for over two months, and it was eventually found that a rocker arm was never installed in the #1 cylinder valve train. This issue highlights serious concerns with Genesis' quality control processes, and the owner ultimately hired a lemon law lawyer to seek a remedy.
Another issue reported by owners is anxiety-prone driver safety features. The 2023 Genesis G90 has a number of safety features that are designed to assist drivers, but some owners have reported that these features can be overly sensitive and cause unnecessary anxiety. For example, the lane departure warning system can be overly aggressive, causing the car to suddenly jerk back into the lane.
The new V6 engines in the 2023 Genesis G90 also have poor fuel economy. Genesis has ditched the 5.0-liter V8 for a pair of twin-turbo V6 engines for this year. While these engines produce more horsepower, they also consume more fuel. This can be a significant drawback for owners who are looking for a luxury sedan that is both powerful and fuel-efficient.
Consumer Reports expects the 2024 G90 to have about average reliability when compared to other new cars. However, it is important to note that the G90 has had some reliability issues in the past. For example, the 2018 Genesis G90 had below-average reliability, with owners reporting problems with the car's engine, transmission, and electrical system.
In summary, while the Genesis G90 is a luxurious and capable sedan, it is not without its issues. Owners have reported problems with the engine, safety features, and fuel economy. It is important for potential buyers to do their research and consider these issues before making a purchase.
What is the problem with the Genesis G90?
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023 Genesis G90 vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side, passenger-side, and rear seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
Is the Genesis G90 a reliable car?
That's only somewhat true. According to consumerreports.com, the Genesis G90 has a reliability rating of about two out of five. That's not very good, even compared to other luxury sedans. But not every source is as negative.
How long will a Genesis G90 last?
The Genesis G90 can last for more than 40,000 miles and even up to 100,000 or more miles without many issues.
Do Genesis have engine problems?
Genesis is recalling 2019-2022 G70 sedans, 2018-2020 G80 sedans, and 2017-2022 G90 sedans equipped with 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engines because an oil leak may develop and cause a fire. 28,349 vehicles are included in the vehicle. Earlier this month, Kia recalled some vehicles for the same issue with the same engine.

- Date Complaint: 2023-09-13
- VIN: KMTF34PA9MU
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: This is not about a tire failure but rather dangerous mis sizing of tires from factory.I bought the car new. It was never in an accident or had a flat tire and did not have service call until this week at 13000 or so miles.the service included tire rotation and balance, but the service man called and said he wasn’t going to do it because the driver rear tire was the wrong size!!!! It was supposed to be 275/40 R19 101W but was 245/45R19 98W. The two front tires are 245’s as they should be but BOTH rears are supposed to be the 275’s! Clearly this affects handling, wear, stability etc. I’m a very careful driver but someone less careful could roll over on a fast corner turn! How many more Hyundai/ Genesis tires are mis sized? No one checks that when you buy a car!

Genesis G90 2022
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-06
- Date Complaint: 2022-11-16
- VIN: KMTF34PA5NU
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Seat memory #1 was working when I purchased the vehicle on 9/30/2021. Meaning as I got into and started the vehicle the seat automatically went into the correct driver's position to safely drive the vehicle. It was later learned that one of the options on the vehicle was an easy out feature. Meaning the seat would move back all the way so the driver could easily exit the vehicle. The seat at this time did not go back all the way. So, the dealership installed the new part on April 6, 2022, to correct the easy out feature. After the new part was installed the seat memory for #1 would not work at all as before. Meaning the seat would not go into the number #1 position to drive the vehicle safely. Also, the new part after the installation did not correct the easy out situation either meaning the seat will not move all the way back at all for an easy out. Now when I get out of the vehicle, I have to manually repeat manually move the seat all the way back and down to force myself repeat force myself to hit the number #1 seat position when I get back into the vehicle to reset the seat in order to safety drive the vehicle. The dealership has said per Genesis the seat is operating as designed. I was not informed of this design flaw when I purchased the vehicle and if I was, I never would have purchased the vehicle.

I have owned six Lexus vehicles and a Kia K900, but the Genesis is by far superior for the money and tops the others in all respects. I have had it for about five years and have only experienced one problem with the brakes locking. I have now had my G90 for three years and have had zero problems. In fact, it is one of the best cars I have ever owned, and I have owned about twenty-five cars. I find this Genesis to be overall better than a Lexus. A comparable Lexus vehicle would cost about $25,000 more. If you are considering buying a Genesis, I highly recommend that you do so. I hope you will not be disappointed.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with the car I recently purchased. I noticed that when driving at speeds above 35 mph, the ride was a bit bumpy and the steering wheel and front seats were shaking. I took the car back to the dealer and unfortunately, there was a bit of miscommunication. The dealer had let out 5 lbs of air from the tires, which actually made the ride considerably better. However, the car manual called for about 35-36 lbs. of air and the dealer had lowered it to 32 lb. They tried to convince me that 32 was the proper amount and that I shouldn't pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions. I appreciate their effort to help, but I decided to return the car and look for something that better suits my needs. Thank you for your time and understanding.

I recently attended the Phoenix Auto Show this Fall and had the opportunity to compare 12 different high-end car brands. As a snowbird who frequently drives back and forth from AZ to IND, I was looking for a car that was both spacious enough for hauling and comfortable enough for a 2,000 mile trip. Unfortunately, many of the competitors I sat in were lackluster and overpriced. However, there were a few that stood out with their comparable room, comfort, and features. The Genesis G90 was one of them. Despite being next to the noisy Toyota booth, the G90 was impressively quiet and comfortable. My wife and I were sold on the G90 after sitting in it and experiencing its supportive passenger seat. On our recent 750-mile trip to AZ, we were amazed at how comfortable and powerful the G90 was. We weren't even tired after back-to-back 750 mile days! I've seen the early pics of the 2020 model and I'm not surprised that there are no changes to the interior. It's already terrific!

My 2018 G90 is a remarkable vehicle, offering state-of-the-art features and unparalleled comfort. Although I have experienced some issues, such as the trunk not opening by itself on day one, I was able to fix it myself by lengthening the rubber stops to preload the lid. When the battery died and wouldn't take a charge, I was relieved to find that it was still under the 3-year valet warranty, and the dealer promptly picked it up, replaced the battery, and returned it to me. However, I was disappointed to learn that the connective service will no longer work on my vehicle after Dec. 2022 due to 3G going away. Despite this setback, I remain confident in the quality of my vehicle. I am currently working with my local service department to replace a defective right tail light, but I am optimistic that this issue will be resolved to my satisfaction. With just under 9,900 miles on the clock, my G90 has been well-maintained and always garaged, and I am looking forward to many more years of driving pleasure.

If you're a fan of older Lincoln Continentals or Cadillacs, you'll find that this car is equally luxurious and filled with high-tech features, providing a similar ride. Unfortunately, since the delivery of the vehicle with less than 100 miles on it, there have been some vibration issues. Despite a dozen alignments and road force balancing, a new front axle, new drivetrain, new front tires, and transfer case, the vibration still persists. Additionally, there is wind noise from the driver's window that has persisted even after FIVE attempts to repair it. However, it's worth noting that I also own a Genesis G80 that has been pretty much bulletproof. It seems that I may have just gotten a lemon, although steering and chassis vibration is a persistent complaint amongst G90 owners.

I recently had an experience with a car dealership where I encountered some issues with the vehicle I purchased. Although there were some initial problems, the dealership was able to resolve them and provide me with a replacement car. Unfortunately, the second car also had some issues, including water leakage and problems with the tires. I was even locked out of the car due to electronic problems. The dealership had to bring in engineers to fix the car, which took a few months. During this time, I was provided with a loaner car, which was not in the best condition. When I received my car back, I noticed some greasy handprints on the white interior. While my experience was not ideal, I was eventually able to receive a buy back and get my money back. Overall, I believe that the dealership did their best to resolve the issues I encountered.

I have been a loyal Lexus owner for the past 5 years, but recently I have been feeling a bit disappointed with the direction the brand has been taking. The new models seem to be geared towards a younger audience, which is great, but I prefer the refined and elegant style of the older models. When it was time to replace my 2008 Lexus LS600hL, I decided to test drive the Genesis G90 and I was blown away! The exterior is conservative yet classy, and the interior is simply amazing. The safety features are comprehensive and standard, which is a huge plus. Although the dealership experience was not as good as my Lexus dealer, my salesman went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. He even delivered my car to me and will provide me with a loaner whenever I need service. Overall, I am thrilled with my decision to switch to the Genesis G90!I chose to lease this car because I was concerned about the high depreciation hit potential. However, the lease price for a $71K car was very reasonable, and I will probably just get another new Genesis when this lease is up. If you currently drive a Lexus LS, BMW 7-series, Mercedes S, or Audi A8, you owe it to yourself to take the G90 for a test drive. This car is sure to make a splash once it becomes more widely understood!

This car is undeniably a remarkable vehicle and an absolute joy to drive. Despite the unfortunate discontinuation of the Genesis brand by the dealership I purchased from in Jan 2020, I remain confident in the car's exceptional quality. While the Valet service was a significant selling point for me, I understand that it is provided by the dealership and is limited to a radius of about 50 miles from the dealership. Although I was disappointed to learn this, I remain satisfied with my purchase and the luxury experience it provides. My confidence in the Genesis brand remains unwavering, and I look forward to continuing to enjoy my exceptional vehicle.
