2023 Ford Mustang mach e problems

ford logo

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a battery electric compact crossover SUV produced by Ford. The vehicle was introduced on November 17, 2019, and went on sale in December 2020 as a 2021 model. The vehicle is in the Mustang series, with model name Mach-E inspired by the Mach 1 variant of the first-generation Mustang. The car won the 2021 North American SUV of the Year Award.

Overview

During development, the Mustang Mach-E was originally teased as the Ford Mach 1, but was retracted after strong public opposition, with Ford CEO Jim Farley describing the name tease as an evaluation.

The Mach-E has buttons that open the doors, and a small door handle protruding from the front doors, instead of door handles. Smartphones, or a keypad built into the B-pillar, can be used as a key.

The interior has a wide dashboard and built-in soundbar; the dash is equipped with a vertically mounted 15.5 in (39 cm) touchscreen infotainment system fitted with a rotary dial. The majority of the car's systems are controlled through the screen, which uses Ford's recent SYNC 4 operating system, updatable wirelessly. There is a 10.2 in (26 cm) digital cluster for the driver, and the steering wheel has several physical buttons.

The Mustang Mach-E uses the Global Electrified 1 (GE1) platform, which is a heavily reworked version of the C2 platform shared with the fourth generation Focus and third generation Kuga/fourth generation Escape. It offers a traditional cargo area at the rear offering a volume of 29 cu ft (821 L), and a 4.8 cu ft (136 L) waterproof trunk under the hood and can be charged by a home AC charger or by DC fast chargers at up to 150 kW.

Common 2023 Ford Mustang mach e problems

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E has been reported to have several common issues based on complaints from owners.

Another issue reported by owners is related to Android Auto, which can close and restart constantly, making it difficult to use.

The parking sensors in the front and rear of the car have also been reported to malfunction, making it difficult to park accurately. This can be a significant safety concern, as it may make it harder for drivers to avoid collisions when parking.

The driver side window has been reported to automatically go all the way down when it's supposed to go up, requiring the driver to wait until it's all the way down before they can raise it again. This can be an inconvenience, especially in cold or rainy weather.

The door button on the driver's side has also been reported to be unresponsive at times, requiring the driver to press it multiple times before the door will open. This can be a safety concern, as it may make it difficult for the driver to exit the vehicle quickly in an emergency.

It's worth noting that some of these issues may be related to software problems, and Ford has issued updates to address some of these concerns. However, it's unclear if these updates have fully resolved all of the issues reported by owners.

In summary, the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E has been reported to have several common issues, including electrical problems, issues with Android Auto, malfunctioning parking sensors, unresponsive window and door buttons, and other electrical glitches. Negative 2023 Ford Mustang mach e car reviews

  1. Lamont Dach 2025-05-23

The car abruptly came to a halt (from a speed of 50 to 5km) at one point, accompanied by a 'Stop Safety Now' message and four red lights - red battery, red turtle, exclamation point in car and exclamation point in circle. Despite the dealer's inability to reproduce the issue a week later, it is important to note that the car is a 2023 model, only 1.5 months old with 2400km on the clock, and the battery was at 28% at the time of failure. It is imperative that this issue is resolved as soon as possible to avoid any potential safety hazards on the highway. Rest assured, we will work with Ford to ensure that this issue is resolved in a timely and satisfactory manner.

I purchased my Mach E three weeks ago. Unfortunately, on the second day, I encountered an issue with the parking brake not releasing and was unable to move the car into gear. A warning message appeared on the screen, advising me to return the car to the dealer immediately for service. After several attempts at turning off the vehicle and restarting it, I was finally able to get the car to respond. My experience with the Walnut Creek Dealer has been frustrating, as they have had my car for a week and are still unable to resolve the issue, even with the help of Ford's engineering team. Ford even suggested checking for loose connections! Additionally, I experienced fast acceleration while using hands-free driving mode and was told that I need to be very attentive. If I had not swerved and hit the brakes, I would have collided with the cars in front of me. At this point, I am considering asking the dealer to take the car back. It is disappointing that only one technician is currently qualified to work on the Mach E, and my car is still in the service bay waiting for advice from Ford.

  3. Abel Blick 2024-09-08

This car has been plagued with electronic problems and defective seatbelts, making it an unreliable choice. From loud clunking noises in the drivetrain to strange tones going off in the car while driving, it is clear that this car has not lived up to its promises. The Ford pass app constantly reports issues, which is concerning. It is best to avoid this car at all costs.

  4. Robert Thompson 2024-07-24

That car is fast and looks good. The sound system is decent and it has a beautiful glass roof, but it comes at an extra cost of $1500. Unfortunately, the GT with Performance package is currently priced at around $70k, and finding an honest car sales agent is rare. The delivery fee is also higher than usual, ranging from $1100 to $1400, which is non-negotiable. The interior of the car is not up to par, with cheap-feeling steering wheel and unattractive seats. Despite the tax incentive, the monthly payment at 5% interest is still high. The advertised 276 miles of range is only attainable if you drive conservatively. The car is overpriced and not worth more than 57-62k for the GT PERFORMANCE model plus the incentive. While it is a Mustang, paying more just for the emblem is not worth it.The Tesla Model Y is a great car overall. It has a higher range and better quality batteries, giving you more range. Although it may not look as good from the outside 🤷🏻‍♂️, it's still a fantastic car. I think the MACH E base models should be priced at around 50k and the GT should come with the performance package included at around 58k - 62k, PLUS incentives. It might be worth waiting a few months to see how the interior holds up. The range changes abruptly, but it's still a powerful car. Who needs 500 horsepower anyway? If that's the case, you might as well get an ICE vehicle and wait for battery technology to improve. I'm not a fan of the BMW I4 or the ix4's kidney grills, but that's just my personal preference. Sorry, Mustang enthusiasts, but I think the hype is overrated - don't be fooled.

  5. Jerel Gutkowski 2024-07-09

The car is really fun to drive, but it can only go 135 miles on a single charge. However, Ford has promised that it will improve, so let's wait and see!

Positive 2023 Ford Mustang mach e car reviews

  1. Arnold Dibbert 2025-09-21

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your Mach E! It's unfortunate that you're experiencing a significant loss of range during the winter months. Additionally, it seems that there is a lack of charging stations in the Midwest, with only one rapid charger available between Chicago and Indianapolis. During your last visit, it appears that there was only one charger putting out over 50KwH, which resulted in several cars waiting. It's clear that the infrastructure for EV's still has a long way to go before it's ready for prime time. It's understandable that you're unsure about the big 3's decision to eliminate ICE vehicles, especially given the current state of charging infrastructure. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

  2. Ned Mohr 2025-09-18

Hey there! Just wanted to give you all an update on my Mach E. I recently went on a 1,700 mile round trip vacation from NC to Vermont and Canada and I'm happy to report that my car handled the cold and snow really well. Even better, I haven't had a single issue or defect with it yet and I receive OTA updates frequently. On my trip, I averaged 3.4 mi/kWh with BlueCruise set at 72 mph and temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. I got about 230 miles on a full charge! The Mach E is almost as good as my old Porsche Taycan, but significantly less expensive. The only downside is that I struggle to reach 200 miles driving 75-80 mph on the highway with the Standard 70 kWh battery and AWD. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it to others!

  3. Benny Renner 2025-09-07

I have the GT with extended range and AWD. The car has excellent acceleration, especially from a start or passing. The handling is very good for what is really a crossover. The interior is spacious, which is a common feature of EVs. While the large touch screen may draw too much attention, you get used to where things are. There is plenty of room in the back and a nice extra storage up front (aka “Frunk”). However, it's important to note that it’s not an SUV as advertised, and it has no tow bar nor roof rack capabilities. In New England winters, the range drops to about 180 + reserve (haven’t pushed it below 20 miles of range yet), so you really have to plan your travels if this is your only car. The good news is that Ford has a good estimating algorithm, so you can at least count on the range displayed.

  4. Roger Strosin 2025-09-06

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Mach-e! It sounds like it's a great fit for your needs, especially with the AWD for New England weather. The car's reasonable range and good pickup are definitely a plus. I can understand why the quiet and comfortable ride sold you on the car. It's great that you find the dashboard easy to use and the large monitor helpful for navigation. The hatch is also a great feature, providing ample cargo space for trips to the grocery store and home improvement store. I love the idea of using the frunk to keep things cold on your way home from the store in the winter, and filling it with ice for summer drives is a great idea too!

  5. Adolph Quigley 2025-08-24

I've always wanted a Mustang ever since I saw “Goldfinger”. Recently, we unexpectedly needed a new car and decided to go electric. Based on reviews, we bought the Mach E and we absolutely love it! We have the GT in bright blue and people often stop us to ask about the car. The pick up is incredible and really helpful when merging onto the highway. The screen is easy to read and use. There are so many cool features, like the frunk with the drain so you can use it as an ice chest, the “puddle light” with the Mustang logo which appears on the ground when you open the door at night, and the overall styling. My only complaint is the circular shift, which takes a while to get used to. Overall, this is the best car we have ever bought!
