The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a battery electric compact crossover SUV produced by Ford. The vehicle was introduced on November 17, 2019, and went on sale in December 2020 as a 2021 model. The vehicle is in the Mustang series, with model name Mach-E inspired by the Mach 1 variant of the first-generation Mustang. The car won the 2021 North American SUV of the Year Award.
Overview
During development, the Mustang Mach-E was originally teased as the Ford Mach 1, but was retracted after strong public opposition, with Ford CEO Jim Farley describing the name tease as an evaluation.
The Mach-E has buttons that open the doors, and a small door handle protruding from the front doors, instead of door handles. Smartphones, or a keypad built into the B-pillar, can be used as a key.
The interior has a wide dashboard and built-in soundbar; the dash is equipped with a vertically mounted 15.5 in (39 cm) touchscreen infotainment system fitted with a rotary dial. The majority of the car's systems are controlled through the screen, which uses Ford's recent SYNC 4 operating system, updatable wirelessly. There is a 10.2 in (26 cm) digital cluster for the driver, and the steering wheel has several physical buttons.
The Mustang Mach-E uses the Global Electrified 1 (GE1) platform, which is a heavily reworked version of the C2 platform shared with the fourth generation Focus and third generation Kuga/fourth generation Escape. It offers a traditional cargo area at the rear offering a volume of 29 cu ft (821 L), and a 4.8 cu ft (136 L) waterproof trunk under the hood and can be charged by a home AC charger or by DC fast chargers at up to 150 kW.

We were deciding between a Model 3 Tesla and the Mach-E. Since we already have a Model Y, we were going to have two EVs either way. We had the Model 3 on order and the car was ready for us to buy if we put the money down, beyond the $100. A friend suggested that we consider the Mach-E. We test drove it and it was pretty fun. The pick up is maybe a hair less fierce than the Tesla but not by much. There are some aspects we prefer and some we like less. The good thing is the build quality. Decades of building cars with tight tolerances on panel gaps etc shows. Simple things such as the car in the blind spot indicator on the mirror are tried and tested and seem better than Tesla's red car on the big screen system. Control of the air vents is easier, as is having the limited display in front of the steering wheel rather than everything on the big monitor in the middle. The door handles are great and make the look very sleek. The cabin is spacious and headroom is very good. The car handles very, very well and we like the aero wheels. The driving-influenced feedback on range (heavy foot less range) feature is a time-tested feature that Tesla does not really have. That is more relevant in the Mach-E because we did not get the extended range (back-ordered for months), so we have 300 miles on Tesla vs. 200 on the Mach-E. Charging infrastructure is not something we are familiar with yet because we are just charging at home. We have the adapter to plug the Tesla plug into the Mach-E but that will not yet work with the Tesla superchargers. At home, it works fine and the non-Tesla EV infrastructure will definitely improve. The connectivity of the Mach-E to Apple Car Play is better than the Tesla, but otherwise, the software is where the Tesla pulls away. Configuring profiles and phone as a key features in the Mach-E is not nearly as intuitive as in the Tesla: it is fiddly. The Tesla is just very Apple-like in its operation.The platform was designed from the ground up with a focus on incorporating the Tesla ethos into Ford's existing platform. In comparison to the Tesla, the Mach-E feels more like driving a car rather than a sleek iPhone on wheels. While the Mach-E may offer better access to features through the screen, the Tesla has an advantage with its online sales and showroom demos. Buying the Mach-E can feel like a more traditional car showroom experience, which can be unpleasant. However, it is great to have both platforms to compare. We had a great experience at Stevens Ford in Milford with a salesman who was referred to us and did not mark up the MSRP due to demand. Overall, we are happy to have the Mach-E and appreciate the opportunity to compare both platforms.

Such a fun car after driving a family truckster for 30 years. It's my first EV so there’s a learning curve but I'm really enjoying the ride, the quietness, and the beautiful interior. I'm glad I decided on the extended battery, it's been a great choice. There are so many apps available to help with charging and more, and I've found a lot of helpful answers to common questions in Facebook groups too.

For the naysayers, it’s not a real Mustang, l know. I had a 18 Mustang. (No comparison) The name does start a lot of conversation. Ordered my Space White AWD Premium extended range battery June of 21. Took delivery December 16th of 21. EV cars are not for everyone. Mine is perfect for me. Normally drive 30-40 miles a day locally. Occasionally take it for a local ride of a 100 miles. Charge at home. Cost me $30-$35 a month to drive. Everyone that I have taken for a ride in the car are totally impressed. Even the naysayers. Never have had a problem. You’ll never know till you ride in or drive one.

Great riding and more than sufficiently quick. It handles well too. The motor sounds just right, giving you a little sense of acceleration, but still nice and quiet. It feels like a normal car, except for the center screen which may take some getting used to. The sunroof is unnecessary as it lets in heat, but very little light. I would suggest adding some normal buttons for easier control access. However, be careful with the center screen as it may get caught on someone's clothing someday and require a costly repair.

I noticed that the range of 270 miles was not displayed when we bought the car on 11/29/2021. While some may find this acceptable, I personally disagree. As an experienced EV owner, I would not have purchased this car if I had known about this issue. Additionally, I found the array of buttons that control basic functions to be confusing, despite being a member of Mensa for over thirty years. The intuitive engineering of this car deserves an F minus. I have never owned a Ford before, and if my IONIQ 5 or ID.4, which I ordered many months ago, had a chance of being delivered, I would not have purchased this car.

Have you tried giving them a call? They might be able to help you resolve any issues you're having with starting your car. It sounds frustrating to have to keep providing your information and not getting a solution. It's also inconvenient to only have one key, especially if the phone key doesn't work reliably. It's understandable that you're feeling regretful about your purchase, especially when compared to Tesla's superior customer service. Hopefully, the customer service team can help improve your experience.

You may experience some discomfort due to the vehicle's tendency to sway on even roads and the sudden stops caused by the brakes. Unfortunately, connecting to Apple Car Play can be challenging and some features are locked into the large screen. Additionally, the artificial Engine Sounds may not be to everyone's taste. While Ford's current model has some shortcomings, it is a promising start. We hope to see improvements in the future.
