Common Ford Fusion energi problems
The Ford Fusion Energi, a plug-in hybrid midsize sedan produced from 2013 to 2020, has faced several common issues that owners have reported. The most significant problem category for the Fusion Energi is electrical issues, with the 2013 model year being the worst due to its high repair costs and problems at lower mileage.
One of the most common issues across various model years is a loss of steering, which appeared frequently in the 2013 model year. This problem can be expensive to fix, with an average cost of $2,200 and an average mileage of 51,000 miles.
The 2013 Ford Fusion Energi also had issues with the transmission, including harsh or delayed shifting, squeaks and creaks when bumping or turning, swollen lug nuts, and transmission oil leaks. These problems can lead to expensive repairs and affect the overall driving experience.
Another common issue with the Ford Fusion Energi is rodent damage, which is caused by the vehicle's electrical system components being attractive to rodents that chew on the wires. This issue can lead to electrical problems and require costly repairs.
When considering purchasing a used Ford Fusion Energi, it is essential to be aware of these common issues and consider the most reliable model years. The 2013 model year is generally considered the worst due to its high repair costs and frequent problems at lower mileage. It is always a good idea to research the specific model year and check for any recalls or common issues before making a purchase.
What is the problem with the Ford Fusion PHEV?
Don't Charge Ford Fusion Plug-In Hybrids Until a Recall Repair Is Done, the Automaker Says. Ford is recalling nearly 15,000 Fusion plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedans from the 2019 and 2020 model years because they may not start, lose power when driving, and be at risk of catching fire.
What is the Ford Fusion Energi lawsuit?
This class action concerns the alleged negligent and dangerous design, manufacture and installation of the high-voltage battery energy control module in the 2019-2020 Ford Fusion PHEV vehicles. In June 2023, Ford Canada and Ford US disclosed the dangerous defect and commenced a recall.
How long will Ford Fusion Energi last?

Smooth ride! Great on gas! Beautiful interior and trim. (I get a lot of compliments). Trunk is small, but you can still fit a carry-on luggage, a large suitcase, and a backpack in the trunk for airport travel. I really hope Ford reconsiders and continues to manufacture this car. It's definitely a home run!

I bought this car in Q4 2018, just before the $7k rebate expired. My next car will be an EV, but I didn't have the budget for a Tesla. I test drove the hybrid model, but I wasn't impressed by its performance. I need a car that's fun to drive, and unfortunately, the hybrid didn't give me that feeling. However, the Energi model had everything I was looking for. The 'Energi Depletion Mode' gives the car that 'fun' feeling that the hybrid lacks, and I love using the 'L' button when I drive, which allows the Energi to drive with active regenerative braking. Some people have commented on the brakes being grabby, but I haven't had any issues with them since they've been worked in. I've driven 38k miles and they still feel fine. If you have the option, I highly recommend getting the Energi Titanium model, which comes with larger brakes and wheels. Although I have 17

We recently decided to transition to a one-car family due to the increasing expenses of owning two cars. As we both wanted to opt for an eco-friendly option, we began our search for a suitable replacement. After much research, we came across the Energi and decided to give it a try. While I had clear expectations, my wife was more flexible. We took the car for a AAA Pre-Purchase Inspection and went on two one-day test drives from the dealership before finally purchasing it with 82,000 miles on it. And we're so glad we did! The car is an absolute joy to drive - it's solid, quiet, and incredibly comfortable. As both of us have had back surgeries, the comfort of the seats is a huge plus for us. We've already put almost 200 miles on it and despite the 20 mile EV range, the gas tank needle barely seems to move. We're thrilled with our purchase and can't recommend this vehicle enough!

Congratulations on your recent purchase of this vehicle! I completely agree with you that the Edmunds review is spot on. I can understand how the price difference between the Energi and regular Fusion Hybrid may have given you pause, but I'm glad to hear that you went forward with the Energi version and that it hasn't disappointed you so far. It's great that it appears as a normal sedan and that it has all-electric weekend performance. I can imagine that your commute in DC Metro is usually a long one, which will inevitably tap the battery after anywhere between 16-20 miles. While the economics of gas/electricity vs. price point of this car may not pay for itself against the Fusion Hybrid, it's definitely a convenience to not have your weekend in-town trips result in a fillup on Monday morning for work. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

We purchased this car brand new in February 2016 and it has been a fantastic ride ever since. The interior quality is top-notch and we got a great deal on it, paying only $29,000 after a $4,000 federal tax credit and a sales tax exemption for electric and plug-in vehicles under $35,000 in Washington State. This is a significant saving compared to gas-only luxury sedans that would have cost us over $40,000. While the trunk space is a bit small, it still fits our groceries and carry-on luggage for two people. We used to get 15 to 22 miles in EV mode, which was better in the summer months, but now it's down to about 10 miles. However, over the 8 years we've owned the car, we've averaged an impressive 75 MPG. We've had a couple of repairs, including a new throttle body and a new engine off pump for the transmission, which cost around $1600 each. While this is a bit higher than the repair costs for our previous Acuras, the car is still in excellent shape with only 55,000 miles on it. We're now debating whether to replace the motor drive battery pack for $7,500 or buy a newer car that's 1 to 4 years old. While I'm leaning towards replacing the battery pack, my wife is considering a newer car. We'll miss the convenience of only having to go to the gas station once every 4 to 6 weeks, but we're excited to see what the future holds.

I waited to purchase the 2017 model to take advantage of the latest technology, but unfortunately, I have been disappointed with the navigation system. Despite paying $700 for it, the system has been unable to locate major interstate exits, such as those on Highway 5 that runs from Canada to Mexico. Despite contacting Ford, they have refused to provide any assistance. In comparison, free alternatives such as Waze and Android Auto have proven to be more reliable and efficient. The navigation system has also been unable to recognize voice commands and has lost important downloads and contacts. It has been frustrating to use, and I have been unable to uninstall it. I would not recommend purchasing this system, even if it is offered at a lower price. Additionally, it has been interfering with my use of Android Auto, which has been a source of constant frustration.

Although some people seem to love the Ford Fusion, I have had a very different experience with it. In my opinion, the car is too heavy and lacks sufficient storage space. Additionally, the cup holders are poorly placed and the sound system and heating/cooling controls are not user-friendly. The electric charge on my Ford Fusion has decreased significantly, making it not worth charging at all. Furthermore, the car is expensive to repair and often requires multiple visits to the mechanic. Unfortunately, I have had a number of negative experiences with this vehicle. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences when it comes to cars and I respect those who enjoy driving a Ford Fusion.

Although this car may have its drawbacks, it is not suitable for a family of three due to its limited trunk space. However, it still provides a decent fuel economy of 32 to 35 mpg, and has some advanced safety features. While there may be some occasional struggles between the electric motor and gas engine, the car still performs well overall. We are currently exploring other options that may better suit our needs, but we appreciate the car's strengths and capabilities. Thank you for your understanding.

I've owned this car for a year and a half now. I purchased it used and it was in good condition. While there are a few things that have been bothering me enough to consider trading it in, I wanted to share my thoughts in this review. Firstly, the trunk space is quite limited due to the hybrid battery taking up most of the space. Secondly, the buttons for the gas and electric ports are in an awkward spot and are quite sensitive, which can be frustrating. Thirdly, the electric plug-in feature doesn't perform well in the winter and the car struggles in the snow due to its low ground clearance. However, the car has good acceleration and the leather seats are comfortable with decent leg room. It's important to note that the car doesn't come with a tire changing kit, which could be problematic for those living in rural areas. Overall, I would recommend this car for city commuting in the summer, as it has excellent fuel mileage. However, it may not be suitable for those who require more trunk space or live in areas with harsh winters.

I purchased this car brand new in 2017 and it has been a great driving experience. However, after 5 years, the battery capacity has decreased to 50%. While this may seem concerning, it is important to note that this is a normal occurrence with electric vehicles. It is not comparable to a gas car losing half of its fuel efficiency over time. It is also worth noting that the warranty covers total failure. Overall, I am confident in the capabilities of electric vehicles and would consider purchasing one again in the future.
