The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2014 Ford F-250 sd problems

The 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a heavy-duty pickup truck known for its power and towing capacity. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems based on complaints from owners.

One common issue with the 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a coolant leak from the radiator. This problem can lead to engine overheating and potential engine damage. The leak is typically caused by a faulty radiator or a crack in the radiator itself. It is essential to address this issue promptly to avoid further damage to the engine.

Another common problem with the 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a vibration issue between 65 and 70 mph. The vibration can be caused by various factors, including an out-of-balance drive shaft, aggressive tread on tires, or transmission issues. The dealers have been unable to find the problem, and some have suggested that it is a normal condition. However, many owners have reported similar problems, and some have found that replacing the front pump in the transmission resolves the issue.

The transmission in the 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty has also been reported to have issues, specifically with engaging into drive when the truck is cold. This problem can be caused by a loss of prime in the transmission, which can take a while to draw fluid back into the pump. This issue can lead to a delay in engagement, which can be dangerous in certain driving situations.

Some owners have also reported a lack of lubrication in the drive shaft, which can cause vibration. A Ford technical service bulletin has been issued to address this issue, and owners have reported that addressing the lack of lubrication has resolved the vibration issue.

Lastly, some owners have reported a pinion angle problem when towing with their 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty. This problem can lead to shuddering in first gear and can be caused by the weight of the trailer and the pinion angle. Some owners have reported that installing air lifts to re-establish the pinion angle resolves the issue, but others have argued that this should be the responsibility of the manufacturer.

In conclusion, while the 2014 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a powerful and capable heavy-duty pickup truck, it has its share of common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include coolant leaks, vibration, transmission engagement problems, lack of lubrication in the drive shaft, and pinion angle problems when towing. It is essential to address these issues promptly to avoid further damage to the vehicle and ensure safe driving conditions.
