2000 Dodge Ram van problems

The Dodge Ram Van (also known as the Dodge B-series) is a range of full-size vans that were produced by Chrysler Corporation from the 1971 to 2003 model years. Replacing the Dodge A100, the Ram Van transitioned to a front-engine drivetrain configuration. Mostly offered as a cargo van and a passenger van, the model line was also initially offered as a cutaway van chassis.
The B-series van line was produced across 32 years of production, making it among the longest-lived platform designs in American automotive history. Much of the exterior and chassis underpinnings saw only gradual changes during their entire production, with three distinct generations developed. Alongside its use by Dodge, the full-size van range saw rebranding during the 1970s for both Fargo Trucks and Plymouth (marking the debut of the Plymouth Voyager nameplate).
For much of its entire production run, Chrysler produced B-platform vans at the now-demolished Pillette Road Truck Assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; prior to 1980, the model line was also produced at Saint Louis North Assembly (Fenton, Missouri). In 2003, the Dodge Sprinter (a rebranding of its Mercedes-Benz namesake) was introduced, replacing the B-series van entirely from 2004 to 2009. Since 2014, the Ram division has offered the ProMaster to the full-size van market, a rebranded Fiat Ducato.

The water pump went out at 120,000 miles, which is not what I would call premature, but other than that, I've only had to replace the heater blower motor resistor, the turn signal flasher, and the bulbs in the overhead brake light. That's not bad in my opinion. It now has 170,000 miles on it and is still in great shape (except for the paint peeling). It's a workhorse and has only failed on me once. Keep up with regular maintenance and keep the fluids fresh, and it will run forever. By the way, it's a 1500 half-ton with a 318 5.2-liter V8 loaded about 1000 pounds over gross weight that I put 3500 one-ton springs on. I love my Dodge van!

Hi there! I'm happy to report that this vehicle has only had a few minor issues, such as the wiper intermittent relay and blower relay. With 110,000 miles on the clock, it's still running strong and performs well even when towing a kayak trailer. It gets about 12 mpg, which is great. Thanks for considering this vehicle!

We bought our van brand new in 1997 and it has been a reliable vehicle for our family. Although we had to replace the water pump every 3-4 years, which cost us $100 for the pump and $400 for installation, we never had to do a brake job until 2007. Unfortunately, with almost 150,000 miles on the van, we are experiencing more issues. We have already spent over $1000 on repairs and now the transmission is failing. The mechanic also informed us that the brakes need attention again and we have noticed a bad oil leak. Despite these issues, we are grateful for the 13 years of service the van provided us. Overall, it was a great family vehicle and if we had to make the choice again, we would still choose Dodge.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with this amazing van that I leased as a used conversion van from the dealer back in '99. It only had 20,000 miles on it at the time! Since then, my family and I have taken it on 2 trips to Florida and 1 to Green Bay Wisconsin from NY, and it has been an incredibly reliable vehicle. The 3.9 V6 and 3 speed auto tranny make for a smooth ride, and even in higher wind gusts, it handles much better than the Ford or Chevy. If you've ever driven a full-sized van, you know how scary it can be to feel like you're being blown all over the road, but this van is much more stable. I highly recommend it!

I recently purchased a 1998 vehicle that was in almost brand new condition. It was flawless, with no nicks, dings, scratches, or scuffs on it. The paint was in perfect condition, and the best part was that it only had 38,000 miles on it. It was a total score of a deal! The only downside is that it lacks power, so don't expect to gun it. Mine is the conversion style, and it is very comfortable. However, the passenger's seat doesn't go back very far and doesn't allow for big shoes. Lastly, it has a bench seat in the back that converts into a bed, which is perfect for a teenager, but not ideal for an average height male.

The 1996 Elk Conversion is an excellent choice for traveling with 5 or more people. While I also have a Suburban that is better on the highway and in winter driving, this van offers unparalleled passenger room. The driver visibility is great and I have experienced very few mechanical problems to date. Overall, this has been a reliable and enjoyable vehicle for our family.

The upper radiator hose in my van has a leak. While the engine design could use some improvement in terms of maintenance, I have the expertise to handle it. As an experienced aircraft mechanic, I have seen many engine designs, and this one could benefit from quick disconnects for the electric lines and an engine block extension for the thermostat installation. Despite these challenges, I am confident in my ability to fix the issue. While I have had some trouble with this van, I am considering other options, such as a Toyota van. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Dodge Wagon/Van that I bought back in 1998 for $23,000. While it looked great when I bought it, unfortunately, it hasn't lived up to my expectations. I think the dealership did a good job of making it look good, but I wish I had taken it for a test drive before purchasing. The van's big tires make it feel like it could tip over in even the slightest wind, and it's not the best in snowy conditions. Additionally, it has limited power with a 6-cylinder engine, poor fuel economy, and it's difficult to do a simple tune-up. The air conditioning is also not great. I wish someone at Dodge would take the time to address these issues. Thanks for listening!
