Daewoo Lanos 2000 problems
The Daewoo Lanos is a compact / sedan car produced by the South Korean manufacturer Daewoo from 1997 to 2002, and thereafter produced under license agreements in various countries worldwide. It has also been marketed as the Daewoo Sens, ZAZ Sens and ZAZ Lanos in Ukraine, Doninvest Assol and ZAZ Chance in Russia, FSO Lanos in Poland, or Chevrolet Lanos in Ukraine, Russia, and Egypt.
It was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and initially featured three body styles: three-door and five-door hatchbacks and a four-door sedan. The Lanos was designated the T100 model code at launch; the T150 code applies to the updated models introduced in 1999. In 2006, a panel van version, produced in Ukraine by ZAZ, was also introduced. The Daewoo Lanos was designed to replace the Daewoo Nexia in the Daewoo line-up and was itself replaced by the Daewoo Kalos.
Production of the Daewoo Lanos ended in 2020.

Common Daewoo Lanos 2000 problems
The Daewoo Lanos, introduced in 1997, has received mixed reviews from owners, with some praising its reliability and others reporting frequent problems. One common issue is the difficulty in finding parts for the car, which can make repairs challenging and expensive.
A significant number of owners have reported problems with the engine, including misfiring, lack of compression, and issues with spark plugs and wiring. For example, one owner reported that there was no compression on the first piston, despite power and injector functionality.
The brakes on the Daewoo Lanos have also been a source of concern for many owners. Rear brakes, in particular, have been reported to seize, causing the brake shoes to sit tight against the drums. This issue is caused by a fault with the rear brake cylinders, which need to be replaced to resolve the problem.
The car's transmission has also been criticized, with some owners reporting problems with the automatic transmission, including gear failure and difficulty engaging certain gears.
Despite these issues, some owners have reported positive experiences with the Daewoo Lanos, praising its reliability and low maintenance costs. However, it is clear that the car has had its share of problems, particularly with parts availability, engine and electrical issues, and the brakes.
What happened to Daewoo Lanos?
The Lanos was finally phased out after the 2002 model year, superseded worldwide by the Daewoo Kalos. Daewoo ceased operations in North America. After GM took over Daewoo to become GMDAT, Chevrolet began importing the Daewoo Kalos, rebadged as the Aveo, to North America beginning with MY 2004.

So far, your experience with your Lanos sounds excellent, except for three minor issues. Firstly, the passenger seatbelt tends to get too tight as you travel, and it can be difficult to loosen the strap. Secondly, it seems that the air conditioning unit may be leaking water onto the passenger side floor. Lastly, the chrome-colored paint on the hubcaps is coming off. However, overall, it's great to hear that you are very satisfied with the excellent performance of your vehicle!

After 20 years, I finally parted with my beloved 2000 Daewoo Lanos. It was still working great, but it was finally too small for my family and I needed a bigger car. I gave it to a friend and it is still going strong. It has never broken down, not even once in 20 years! I was HARD on it - I used it to carry heavy sound equipment all the time, and construction supplies. (The rear seats fold down and the trunk is HUGE.) That said, I drove short distances and it's only at about 120K miles. I performed the recommended engine belt replacement (every 60K miles) and I changed the oil every 8K miles or so when I remembered. I have replaced the usual wear and tear items like fluids and the battery, and also the alternator and tires occasionally. Air conditioning coolant had to be replaced at year 18. The only things that ever actually went wrong were the light inside the trunk went out after about 12 years, and I broke off the exterior lever of the door handle (very simple to replace though). If you see one used, know it is a reliable car. It's simple, cheap, but so very reliable. Any Japanese or Korean car repair place will be able to do the routine maintenance. It isn't a complicated car. Also, a bonus is that no one steals them for parts because there is no market for that. Hint: avoid red paint colors when possible because those don't hold up as well as other colors. The only downside is that Daewoo is out of business and you rarely find Daewoos anymore. But if you're looking for a reliable car, it's definitely worth considering.

In my opinion, I believe that cars tend to depreciate over time. Therefore, I prefer not to spend a lot of money on them. I look for a car that can get me from point A to B with dependability and economy, and this car fits the bill perfectly. When I sit behind the wheel, I don't feel like I'm in a tin box. I purchased my warranty through General Motors, and although I had some transmission slippage problems, the dealership caught it during regular servicing and resolved the issue with no cost or hassle to me whatsoever.
-
I was so pleased with the quality and performance of my Daewoo Lanos, especially considering how affordable it was. The car is incredibly responsive and handles beautifully. The interior is comfortable and thoughtfully designed. I do a lot of driving on the highway and in the city, and my gas mileage is fantastic. I looked at a lot of options before choosing my Lanos, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I truly believe that the Lanos is an exceptional value, with its impressive performance, design, features, and price.
-
This car has been an absolute joy to drive. It's surprisingly spacious, fuel-efficient, and packed with features that make it an incredible value for the price. I've taken it on long road trips from South Carolina to New Jersey, Alabama, Florida, and Washington DC, and it has never let me down. While it may not be a BMW 5-Series, I have to say that for the price I paid ($9000), I definitely got more than my money's worth. Overall, I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable option.

Although some people have had good results with their Daewoo's, I have unfortunately experienced a number of issues with my car's engine. Despite seeking assistance, the problem has not yet been resolved. It is important to note that Daewoo is currently bankrupt and no longer producing parts for their cars. As a result, it is recommended to ensure that your local Daewoo dealer has the necessary parts in stock before making a purchase. Thank you for considering this information.
Sanford Weimann 2024-07-17
As a college student, I purchased this car with high hopes after reading positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience has been quite the opposite. Although I bought it for a reasonable price of $2,800, I have had to spend almost half of that amount on repairs. Unfortunately, the engine had to be replaced at only 72,000 miles due to a broken piston. It was a challenging task to find a used engine as parts for Daewoo cars are no longer manufactured and very few people in the US are familiar with them.
Davin Mann 2024-07-13
Although my experience with this car has been challenging, I have identified several areas that could be improved. The car's fuel economy could be better, and it struggles to climb hills with multiple passengers. Additionally, the dashboard frequently displays the Check Engine light, which can be frustrating. However, with proper maintenance and care, these issues can be addressed. It is important to note that every car has its strengths and weaknesses, and this car is no exception. With the right adjustments, it can still be a reliable mode of transportation.
Lula Hauck 2024-05-23
This vehicle has consistently underperformed since its inception. It has proven to be hard on brakes and tires, and has failed to meet expected fuel economy standards. Additionally, when warranty parts were needed, they were not readily available nationwide.
Dale Predovic 2024-04-13
It is highly recommended that you replace your timing belt as soon as possible. Unfortunately, many Daewoo cars have experienced issues with their timing belts, which can cause significant damage to the engine. If the belt fails, it can result in 16 bent valves and costly repairs. It's important to note that the rubber parts of this car may be weaker than other models. Please take this into consideration and prioritize the maintenance of your vehicle.
