The Chevrolet dealership has inspected and verified this issue, and the system is available for inspection upon request. This is the same issue that NHTSA investigated in the 2013 model described below. This sensor failure results in a check airbag signal and prevents the deployment of the passenger frontal and knee air bags, posing risk of serious injury to passengers. The PSS may develop a malfunction due to bunching of the sensor mat in the seat trench. The bunching of the sensor mat could cause the mat to repeatedly fold in the same location. Over time, the repeated folding can cause an increased resistance in the sensor mat. An increased resistance in the PSS sensor mat is detected as a fault in the air bag system diagnostic. If this fault is detected, a diagnostic trouble code will be stored in the air bag control unit and the air bag MIL will illuminate. Further, if the fault is detected, the passenger frontal and knee air bags will be suppressed in a crash of sufficient severity to warrant a commanded deployment regardless of the nature of size of the occupant of the front passenger seat.

- Summary: Driving 75mph with cruise control during moderate traffic on freeway about 30 minutes after starting the car, my Volt shut off. There was a jolt of the car that felt like strong breaking and my dash along with everything electrical shut off for about 2 seconds then kicked back on with "Service Theft Deterent" on dash. I could not break or steer the vehicle. I had to come to a rolling stop on shoulder of freeway. Luckily I was in toll lane #1 next to the shoulder or I might have been in a wreck with other cars. I have a check engine light on now and a scheduled appointment at Chevy dealer made prior to today for tomorrow. I have had an issue with my Volt not charging at home/work for a few weeks. No breakers pop, the vehicle just wont complete the charge. The battery was replaced a week ago, driven over 250 miles with new battery, and it is still not charging properly. I have no messages on my vehicle regarding battery, engine, etc. Just the check engine light lit up.

THE SEMI-METALLIC BRAKE PAD HAD SEPARATED FROM ITS METAL BACKING PLATE. I BELIEVE THE TWO PARTS OF THE BRAKE PAD ASSEMBLY ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH AN ADHESIVE, AND THE ADHESIVE FAILED ON BOTH PADS IN SIMILAR FASHION. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THAT THIS BRAKE PAD SEPARATION HAS OCCURRED TO A NUMBER OF CHEVY VOLT VEHICLES. REGENERATIVE ELECTRIC BRAKING MEANS THAT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES (AND THUS THE BRAKE PADS) ARE RARELY USED ON THIS VEHICLE. THE BRAKES HAD NEVER BEEN SERVICED ON THIS VEHICLE, SO THE PADS WERE OEM. I HAVE RETAINED THE BRAKE PADS FOR REVIEW OR ANALYSIS.

ALSO I TOOK IT BY A CHEVY DEALERSHIP BUT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING IN THE ALLOTTED DIAGNOSTIC TIME WITHOUT HAVE TO CHARGE ME MORE TO REMOVE SEATS AND CARPET. I DECLINED.

FURTHER, ALL VEHICLE CONTROLS ASSOCIATED WITH WHEN TO CHARGE (CHARGE DELAY), SECURITY FEATURES SUCH AS AUDIBLE HORN WHEN LOCKING, WHICH DOORS TO UNLOCK WHEN UNLOCKING VEHICLE, NAVIGATION AND FUEL EFFICIENCY INFORMATION ARE INACCESSIBLE. RESEARCHING SIMILAR ISSUES, HAS RESULTED IN IDENTIFYING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND ISSUES WITH THIS CENTER CONSOLE. BECAUSE THE DISPLAY WAS NOT ON, THE AC DOES NOT WORK, NEITHER DO THE BACKUP CAMERA, SENSORS AND NAVIGATION SYSTEMS. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN I GOOGLED THE SAME PROBLEM, THERE ARE MANY VOLT OWNERS EPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CENTER INFORMATION DISPLAY NOT WORKING FOR BOTH GEN 1 AND GEN 2 CHEVY VOLT. IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT CHEVY HAS NOT FIXED IN A LONG TIME. VOLT OWNERS SHOULD GET TOGETHER TO FILE A CLASS ACTION ABOUT THIS.

- Summary: I HAD MY 2015 VOLT (AT ~95000 MILES) SERVICED AT AMERICAN CHEVROLET(MODESTO, CA) ON JUNE 19TH FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE. I HAD 2 MILES EV CHARGE LEFT LEAVING DEALERSHIP PARKING. 2 MIN OUT OF DEALERSHIP, JUST BEFORE STOPPING AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, I SAW AN ERROR: "PROPULSION POWER IS REDUCED" ON DISPLAY. THEN I REALIZED THE CAR HAD NO POWER AT ALL. TURNED OFF ENGINE, AND TURNED IT BACK ON, THE SCREEN SAYS "INITIALIZING....." AND IT LASTED MORE THAN 20 SECONDS, STILL NO POWER. ALL CARS WERE MOVING AGAIN, AND I WAS STUCK ON THE SECOND TO THE RIGHT LANE WITH NO POWER! I POWER CYCLED AGAIN, STILL NO POWER. EMERGENCY LIGHTS DIDN'T LIGHT UP DURING INITIALIZATION. THIS MEANT CARS BEHIND ME WOULDN'T SEE MY LIGHTS. I HAVE A CAMERA FACING THE REAR, AND IT SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE. NOW CAME THE SCARY PART, I SAW A BIG SUV DRIVING AT PROBABLY 60MPH CAME RIGHT BEHIND ME!! LUCKILY THE SUV WAS ABLE TO BRAKE REALLY HARD AND SWERVED TO MY RIGHT LANE BEFORE REAR ENDING ME. I GOT OUT THE VEHICLE, AND STARTED SIGNALING TO CARS BEHIND ME, AND ALL THE CARS NOW COULD SEE ME AND CHANGED LANES. I CALLED DEALER, AND TWO ADVISORS ARRIVED IN JUST A FEW MINS. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY AND GAVE ME A RIDE BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND TOLD ME THE CAR WOULD BE TOWED BACK AND DIAGNOSED. MY VOLT HAS BEEN STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP BEING TEST SINCE JUNE 19TH. TODAY, JUNE 24TH, MY CHEVY ADVISOR, JUAN MORENO CALLED SAID THEY'VE DONE ALL TESTS, AND EVERYTHING HAS BEEN FINE, AND THEY WOULD DO SOME MORE TESTING, AFTER WHICH I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK IT UP TODAY. ON JUNE 19TH, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM ABOUT A SOFTWARE UPDATE, HPCM2. I REQUESTED DEALER PERFORM THE UPDATE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE SOFTWARE DEFECT CAUSED MY VOLT LOSING POWER. BUT NOW I REALLY HAD CONCERN OVER THE SAFETY OF THE VOLT AS IT WAS A FAMILY CAR TO HAUL FAMILY.

- Summary: I RETURNED HOME FROM VACATION. MY CAR HAD BEEN SITTING IN THE GARAGE. WHEN I STARTED IT UP AND PUT IN REVERSE THE BACKUP CAMERA WAS BLACK, THE BACK UP LIGHTS FAILED TO COME ON. I CHECKED ONLINE AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING THAT WAS CAUSED BY A SHORT IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR THAT IS ON THE SAME FUSE AS THE BACK UP CAMERA AND LIGHTS. I TOOK IF TO THE DEALER, WHEN THEY REPLACED THE FUSE, IT BLEW IMMEDIATELY. THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS THEN REPLACED THE VISOR. THE DIAGNOSTICS COST OVER $350, THE NEW VISOR $80. THE CAR HAD 38000 MILES ON IT. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE AND BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN OF THE CAR, THE BACK UP CAMERA IS CRITICAL TO DRIVING SAFELY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM.

- Summary: WE BOUGHT A USED CERTIFIED CALIFORNIA LEMON FROM A CHEVY DEALER IN WISCONSIN 2 YEARS AGO. THEY CLAIMED THE CAR CAME FROM CALIFORNIA AND RESULT OF ITS 3 STRIKE LEMON LAW. THEY CLAIMED THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD BEEN TOTALLY REPLACED. AS OF TODAY WE HAVE HAD TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE TWICE, FIRST TIME THEY AGAIN REPLACED THE COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM. RIGHT NOT THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER, WAITING TO HERE BACK. THE DEALER CLAIMS THIS IS THE SECOND VOLT THIS WEEK WITH THE SAME ISSUE. TO OUR KNOWLEDGE THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 5 TIMES WITH OUR CAR, TWICE WITH US AND THREE TIMES PRIOR IN CALIFORNIA.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 1 recalls for different components of the 2015 Chevrolet Volt.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles manufactured November 8, 2013, to March 12, 2015, and 2015 Chevrolet Volt vehicles manufactured April 11, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the inner tie rod may not be tightened to specification allowing the tie rod to separate from the steering gear.
- Consequence: Separation of the tie rod from the steering gear could result in the loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear assembly, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15386.

Great car, poor resale.

The driver's seat may feel a bit snug for those with a wider build. I personally find that my left leg tends to rest over the seat bolster, which can be uncomfortable due to the seam in the top of the bolster pressing into my thigh. However, this is my only issue with the car and overall it is a great vehicle.

The car is amazing! I commute over 100 miles every day and only spend $40 a week on gas. It has over 140,000 miles and is still going strong, with only one repair needed besides tires. I did have a problem with one of the windows, but that was the only issue. Overall, it's been a fantastic car!

The Chevy Volt is an amazing driving experience. It's smooth, quiet, and quick. The added battery mass provides the car with a weight balance that allows it to corner like it's on rails. After 40 miles, the performance is still great, but the quiet goes away when the gas engine starts charging the battery. This car is perfect for daily short commutes within the electric range. The all-electric battery range is from a low cold weather 25 miles to 50 miles in warm weather. After that, using the gas engine allows a range of 400 miles. The few minor warranty issues I had were covered under the 8-year 80,000-mile Voltec warranty. The liquid-cooled batteries have shown no degradation in the 5 years I've owned it. According to the Facebook Chevy Volt Owners Group, my experience is typical, with one member claiming no degradation in range after 400,000 miles. The hatchback and folding rear seats allow you to carry large loads. It also works well as a little camper, with the rear seats folded, offering an air-conditioned room with an electric plug-in site. If you're looking for the experience of driving a luxury electric vehicle at a very low price, the Chevy Volt is the perfect choice for you.

Although I was initially disappointed, I realized that my issues were caused by a dealer lot problem and not the company itself. In my experience, the Volt is a superior car to the Prius. It is smoother, quieter, and feels safer to drive. It is important to read the manuals to fully understand the operational side of the vehicle. While I don't believe it's a five-star car, it comes very close. I would rate its performance as a four, and its comfort as a four, although it could benefit from better seats. The value is also a four, but the price needs to come down. As an economical car, it is fun to drive and gets a four. The interior/exterior gets a three due to missing some things on the assembly line. The build quality is a three, and reliability is too soon to tell.

This car has many pros, including great fuel economy, acceleration, cargo space, and reliable transportation. However, there are some areas for improvement. The interior design lacks visibility due to the side airbags obstructing the view, and the touchscreen can be unresponsive at times. Additionally, the key fob can be a hassle if it fails to detect the signal. Despite these issues, the car has been well-maintained and serviced, and I am confident in its overall performance.The physical backup seems redundant if it still requires a signal to start the car or prevent alarms from going off. It should only be used when the key battery has died. I have researched this issue extensively and even reset my car, but unfortunately, nothing has resolved it. While Chevy has missed some key backup and safety points, this car still has a lot of potential.

I have a 2014 Volt and really like the car. However, I think there may be room for improvement in GM and its dealers' commitment to customer satisfaction, especially when it comes to the Volt. In December 2014, GM issued a 'Customer Satisfaction Program', which it also referred to as a 'recall', regarding a liftgate strut. Unfortunately, six months after the program started, GM dealers reported that they needed at least two weeks to get the part, and the GM Recall Center said that the part was 'back ordered'. It's possible that GM and its dealers (such as Koons in Northern VA) don't stock the part, which could make it harder for people to get the repair made. However, I remain optimistic that GM will continue to improve its customer service and support. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
