1993 Chevrolet Caprice problems
The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-size car produced by Chevrolet in North America for the 1965 to 1996 model years. Full-size Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million sold. It was the most popular car in the U.S. in the 1960s and early 1970s, which, during its lifetime, included the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.
Introduced in mid-1965 as a luxury trim package for the Impala four-door hardtop, Chevrolet offered a full line of Caprice models for the 1966 and subsequent model years, including a "formal hardtop" coupe and an Estate station wagon. The 1971 to 1976 models are the largest Chevrolets ever built. The downsized 1977 and restyled 1991 models were awarded Motor Trend Car of the Year. Production ended in 1996.
From 2011 to 2017, the Caprice nameplate returned to North America as a full-size, rear wheel drive police vehicle, a captive import from Australia built by General Motors's subsidiary Holden—the police vehicle is a rebadged version of the Holden WM/WN Caprice. The nameplate also had a civilian and police presence in the Middle East from 1999 to 2017, where the imported Holden Statesman/Caprice built by Holden was marketed as the Chevrolet Caprice in markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Common 1993 Chevrolet Caprice problems
The 1993 Chevrolet Caprice has several common problems that owners have reported, which can be categorized into three main areas: engine performance, fuel consumption, and cooling system.
- Fuel Consumption: The 1993 Caprice has a reputation for drinking gas, which is not normal for a car of this type. This issue can be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor, which can give the engine control unit (ECU) false readings and cause the engine to run rich in fuel. Replacing the oxygen sensor can help solve this problem.
- Cooling System: The 1993 Caprice can have overheating issues, which can be caused by a sticky thermostat or a plugged heater core. A cooling system flush and replacing the thermostat can help solve this problem. If the car has over 150,000 miles, the catalytic converter might also be clogged, which can cause the engine to run hot and have no power.
In summary, the 1993 Chevrolet Caprice has several common problems that owners have reported, including engine performance issues, fuel consumption problems, and cooling system problems. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including bad sensors, timing chain issues, faulty oxygen sensors, sticky thermostats, plugged heater cores, and clogged catalytic converters. Addressing these issues can help improve the overall performance and reliability of the car.

The car is truly one of a kind, guaranteed to turn heads no matter what you drive. At almost 6 feet wide, it's the last of the real Land Yachts.
-
Oil was changed every 3,000 (as close as possible) miles. You'll be happy to know that I have never had to add any oil between changes. Maintenance was always performed as soon as possible. The vehicle was never in any major accident and only three very minor ones. The upholstery is in excellent condition.

I have a 1991 Caprice and I'm thinking of getting a 1996 Buick Roadmaster. I'm hoping it will be just as good as my Caprice, which gets an impressive 31mpg. The only downside to my Caprice is the driver's seat - it's not a power one and, being only 5'2, I have to use a cushion to see over the dash. Additionally, I find the seat uncomfortable on drives longer than 1/2 hour. However, I've been told that the Buick will fix these issues. The car has 370,000km on it and the only thing that doesn't work is the A/C. The engine has never been opened up and burns no oil. I'm only considering switching because of the newer year and the power seats.

This has really been the best car I have ever owned! For the first 6 months, I had absolutely no problems with it. However, after a while, some things started to wear out. I had to get the whole front steering done, then the intake manifold gasket, followed by shocks, and then the timing chain and valve cover gaskets. But since I did all the work myself instead of spending over $1250, I spent just under $350.

I had a 93' Caprice which was my first car and I loved it so much! The exterior styling is unique and admirable. I bought it used with the above mileage on it and it ran great. The transmission shifted smoother than a baby's bottom and the acceleration from the 16V 5 liter engine was fantastic. It was the most comfortable car I've ever been in. Sadly, I got in a bad wreck with this car and totalled it. I really miss it. It was a great car!!!
