Chevrolet Caprice problems
The Chevrolet Caprice is a full-size car produced by Chevrolet in North America for the 1965 to 1996 model years. Full-size Chevrolet sales peaked in 1965 with over a million sold. It was the most popular car in the U.S. in the 1960s and early 1970s, which, during its lifetime, included the Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala.
Introduced in mid-1965 as a luxury trim package for the Impala four-door hardtop, Chevrolet offered a full line of Caprice models for the 1966 and subsequent model years, including a "formal hardtop" coupe and an Estate station wagon. The 1971 to 1976 models are the largest Chevrolets ever built. The downsized 1977 and restyled 1991 models were awarded Motor Trend Car of the Year. Production ended in 1996.
From 2011 to 2017, the Caprice nameplate returned to North America as a full-size, rear wheel drive police vehicle, a captive import from Australia built by General Motors's subsidiary Holden—the police vehicle is a rebadged version of the Holden WM/WN Caprice. The nameplate also had a civilian and police presence in the Middle East from 1999 to 2017, where the imported Holden Statesman/Caprice built by Holden was marketed as the Chevrolet Caprice in markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Common Chevrolet Caprice problems
Common problems with Chevrolet Caprice cars include:
- Loss of Electric Power Steering Assist: Model year 2015-2016 Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit and SS vehicles are at risk of corrosion on the connectors between the electric power steering modules and the torque sensor connectors. This corrosion affects conductivity and interferes with the torque sensor circuits, causing the cars to lose electric power steering assist.
- Engine Problems: 1993 Caprices may have engine problems, including running roughly under load, drinking gas, and overheating. These issues may be caused by a variety of factors, including a sticky thermostat, timing chain issues, or a faulty oxygen sensor.
- Transmission Issues: Some Chevrolet Caprices may experience transmission problems, including slipping, jerking, or failing to shift properly. These issues may be caused by worn or damaged transmission components, low transmission fluid levels, or faulty sensors.
- Suspension Problems: Suspension issues are also common in Chevrolet Caprices, including worn or damaged suspension components, leaking shocks or struts, and uneven tire wear. These issues may affect the car's handling and ride quality, and may lead to more serious problems if not addressed promptly.
- Brake Issues: Some Chevrolet Caprices may experience brake problems, including soft or spongy brakes, squeaking or grinding noises, and pulsating or vibrating brakes. These issues may be caused by worn or damaged brake components, contaminated brake fluid, or faulty sensors.
- Interior Problems: Some Chevrolet Caprices may have interior problems, including issues with the seats, door panels, or dashboard. These issues may be caused by wear and tear, faulty components, or design flaws.
- Exterior Problems: Exterior issues are also common in Chevrolet Caprices, including issues with the paint, body panels, or trim. These issues may be caused by wear and tear, environmental factors, or manufacturing defects.
It is important for Chevrolet Caprice owners to address these issues promptly to prevent more serious problems from developing. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify potential issues before they become major problems, and prompt repairs can help ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.

Are 2014 Chevy Caprice reliable?
User Reviews for the 2014 Chevrolet Caprice
Amazing cheap vehicle if you want something fast and reliable. Only downside is parts are harder to get and maintenance can be pricey so I do not recommend having one as a daily driver but as a weekend car they are great.
Is the Chevy Caprice rare?
While Chevrolet was selling hundreds of thousands of Caprices per year at the time, only a tiny fraction of them were ordered with the four-speed manual. There aren't precise production numbers to run by, but most experts agree that Chevrolet sold only a few thousand units per year.

Latest 5 recalls Chevrolet Caprice
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 96 recalls for different components of the Chevrolet Caprice. You can explore the year of the Volkswagen Jetta you are interested in by selecting it from the list.
- Model: Chevrolet Caprice 2014
- Report Received Date: 2015-10-09
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured August 14, 2013, to February 3, 2014, and Chevrolet SS vehicles manufactured August 15, 2013, to February 16, 2014. The affected vehicles received replacement seat base assemblies during repair service, but during the work, the seat position target bracket may not have been transferred from the old seat to the new one. Without the seat position target bracket, the air bag may deploy at a higher intensity than necessary.
- Consequence: An air bag that deploys at a higher than intended level increases the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and, if necessary, install a seat frame equipped with a target bracket, free of charge. The recall began on December 28, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 15567.
- Model: Chevrolet Caprice 2011
- Report Received Date: 2015-06-23
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured October 15, 2010, to October 22, 2013, and 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 vehicles manufactured July 25, 2007, to February 18, 2009. In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel cables that connect the seat belts to the vehicle at the outside of the driver seat and the front passenger seat may be bent from being sat on while entering the vehicle. This repeated bending may result in the cable breaking.
- Consequence: If the cable breaks, the seat occupant may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt tensioner assembly which includes the steel cable, free of charge. These replacement parts reposition the tensioner cable out of the path of entry into the vehicle and uses a more flexible cable, set at a more upright angle. The recall began on July 5, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 15206.

- Model: Chevrolet Caprice 2011
- Report Received Date: 2014-09-09
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured October 15, 2010, to December 6, 2013, and 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 vehicles manufactured July 25, 2007, to February 18, 2009. In the affected vehicles, the driver may accidentally hit the ignition key with their knee, unintentionally knocking the key out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position could cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will remove the key blade from the original flip key/RKE transmitter assemblies, and cut and fit a revised key blade and housing assembly, in which the blade has been indexed by 90 degrees, to the original RKE transmitter assembly. GM issued an interim notification to owners on December 31, 2014. The recall began on February 4, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14445. Note: Until the recall has been performed, it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key.
- Model: Chevrolet Caprice 2011
- Report Received Date: 2014-09-09
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL)
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Chevrolet Caprice vehicles manufactured March 24, 2011, to December 6, 2013. The affected vehicles are Police Patrol Vehicles (PPV), equipped with a specific transmission selector lever that contains two pins that can become displaced. If the pins get displaced, the driver may be able to shift the vehicle from "Park" without depressing the brake pedal or remove the ignition key without the transmission being in "Park." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards No. 102, "Transmission Shift Position Sequence, Starter Interlock, And Transmission Braking Effect", and No. 114, "Theft Protection And Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If the transmission can be moved from "Park" without depressing the brake pedal, unintended motion may occur increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the ignition key can be removed without the transmission being in "Park," the vehicle may roll away, increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the shift lever roll pin, replace the base pivot pin and attach a Brake Transmission Shift Interlock retention enhancement clip, free of charge. The recall began on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14549.

The car is truly one of a kind, guaranteed to turn heads no matter what you drive. At almost 6 feet wide, it's the last of the real Land Yachts.

Vehicle year: 1995
I bought this car with 69,000 miles on it. I chose the Chevy over a Crown Vic because it's more fuel efficient and a little bit bigger. Plus, the car's fit and finish is more of an everyday working man's finish. It can even tow up to 5,000 lbs! And with the 4.3 litre engine, there's plenty of power.

Vehicle year: 1995
What can I say? It's a Caprice! I've had mine for 3 years now and put 45k miles on it. It's been very reliable so far, with only a few minor electrical issues. This car has never broken down on me and left me stranded. The L99 (4.3L), which is identical to the LT1 (5.7L) but with a smaller stroke and bore, is very adequate for city driving, especially with some power programming. The gas mileage is very good for a 2-ton vehicle.

Vehicle year: 1992
Oil was changed every 3,000 (as close as possible) miles. You'll be happy to know that I have never had to add any oil between changes. Maintenance was always performed as soon as possible. The vehicle was never in any major accident and only three very minor ones. The upholstery is in excellent condition.

Great car! I really respect it because it looks like a police cruiser. Although it can be expensive to repair, I've found it to be one of the best cars I've owned. I've had it for about 4 years now, since it had 72,000 miles, and it currently has 209,000 miles. I do a lot of highway driving and I'm hoping to get it up to 300,000 miles. Overall, I'm really happy with it!

Vehicle year: 1990
I purchased this car with 73K miles from a private seller who ran a body shop where the car was repaired after being sideswiped. Although it runs well, over the past seven years, the paint has dulled, the headliner has detached from the ceiling, the dash cover has split apart, weatherstripping has torn, and electrical problems have developed. On cold days, the wipers won't come on for a minute or more and they continue sweeping when you shut them. Additionally, the engine nearly stalls each time you come to a stop, but you get used to that. I have replaced engine gaskets, carburetor, tranny, exhaust, brakes, tires, springs, shocks, alternator, water pump, radiator, in the 40K that I have owned this car.

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that these cars aren't really fond of corners.
Felipe Williamson 2024-05-09
Vehicle year: 1990
I purchased this car from a family member who took great care of it and hardly drove it. It currently has only 180000KM's, but unfortunately, it has been experiencing some issues lately. It's important to note that the car has a 307 W/OD engine and gets around 12MPG. Additionally, it seems to be consuming oil at a higher rate than usual. While I have been taking excellent care of the car, the engine is still struggling. We suspect that it may be due to the valve guide seals, carburetor float, or piston rings. Unfortunately, the cost of repair is quite high, ranging from $700-1200. Please keep this in mind if you are considering purchasing this car.
Nikolas Beahan 2024-02-23
Vehicle year: 1990
The alternator has failed for the third time on this car, despite having only 68,000 miles on the clock. The replacement part cost $117, which I found to be excessive even with a discount. I also noticed that the car's interior components, such as the armrest and power window buttons, seemed to be of lightweight construction and were prone to breaking. Additionally, the body of the car was easily dented and the seats were uncomfortable. The radio was also difficult to operate and unreliable.
