Common 2023 Porsche 718 boxster problems

The Porsche 718 Boxster has been known to have several common problems, as reported by owners of the 2023 model. One of the most frequently reported issues is with the electrics and engine, with some owners experiencing a range of problems that required multiple trips to the dealership for repairs.

Another common issue reported by owners of the 718 Boxster is with the gearbox. Some owners have reported that the gearbox constantly changes into low gears, which can make for a frustrating driving experience. This issue has been reported on both manual and automatic transmission models, and it is not clear whether it is a software or hardware problem.

The interior of the 718 Boxster has also been a source of frustration for some owners. One owner reported that the 'improved' PCM music system only takes up to 3,000 tracks until you account for the album covers that take up so much memory. This can be a significant issue for music lovers who want to have a large library of songs available to them while driving.

Another issue reported by some owners is water leakage into the car due to poor design of the channels along the roof when you open the door. This can be a significant problem, particularly in rainy weather, and it is not clear whether it is a design flaw or a manufacturing defect.

Finally, some owners have reported problems with the coolant system, including leaks and failures. This can be a serious issue, as it can lead to engine overheating and damage.

In summary, the Porsche 718 Boxster has several common problems, including electrical and engine issues, gearbox problems, interior design flaws, water leakage, and coolant system failures. These issues can be frustrating for owners and can lead to significant repair costs. It is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to consider them carefully before making a purchase decision.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-05-10
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: WP0CA2A80PS
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: I was traveling North on the 127 expressway in Michigan on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in my brand new Porsche Boxster. It is a manual transmission. There was not a lot of traffic. It was maybe around 4:00 pm and the weather was fine. In the distance I could see a lane closure marked by orange and white barrels. I was going 70 mph. I tried to slow down, but when I pressed down on the brake pedal, NOTHING. There was no resistance and the pedal went all the way to the floor. I hit the brake multiple times and nothing...... Eventually, I rear ended a car in front of me; the driver stated he was going 60-65 miles an hour. My car kept going because there were no brakes. I traveled a long distance before the car came to a stop. The young man and I drove our cars (unbelievably, my brakes worked fine) to the next exit 1&1/2 miles, and we waited for the police to come. Luckily, neither I nor the young man in the car I hit were injured. Neither of our airbags went off. His car didn't even have a dent, but his rear bumper was scratched up. My car has almost $9,000 in damage. On request the car is available for inspection. The service department at the Porsche Dealership in Okemos says the brakes are fine, nothing is wrong with them. At this point, an agent at State Farm, my insurance company, is trying to get permission to hire an Origin and Cause Expert to look at the car. But the insurance company hasn't actually inspected the car (in person) for brake failure or damage assessment.

Negative 2023 Porsche 718 boxster car reviews

I have been a proud owner of a Boxster for 25 years now. Prior to this, I had three 911s, two 4S coupes, and one Targa S, all of which were great cars. I have had the Boxster for two years now, having bought it new. Unfortunately, the battery died less than 6 months ago and again yesterday. I was relieved to find out that the tire/wheel warranty covered the replacement of two tires. However, I was surprised to learn that the dealership had to wait for approval from Porsche in Germany to replace the battery, which is under warranty. As an owner/driver, I do not have control over the frequency of flat tires and failed batteries. I am sure you can understand my frustration with the situation. I have owned Hondas, Lexus, BMW, and many Mercedes, and never had to wait for approval to replace a part under warranty. In addition, they always had spare tires in stock. I am disappointed that Porsche's service and warranty do not meet the same standards. Despite this, I must say that the car itself is great. It has excellent handling, smooth acceleration, and great cornering. The controls are simple and perfect. I hope that Porsche can improve their service and warranty in the future, as I would hate to have to switch to another brand. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Positive 2023 Porsche 718 boxster car reviews

Our first Porsche was a 914-4 when we got married 50 years ago, BK (before kids). It was so much fun! We promised ourselves that we would get more Porsches when we could. A few years ago, we bought a 2011 Cayman S Black edition, which we loved, but had to let go of to make room for the grandkids. After retiring, we moved back to our hometown and started a 'Tops Down' club with our lifelong friends. We toured remote parts of Oregon in our Mini Cooper S convertible for a year or so, but we still missed our 914-4. That's when we found the 718 Boxster S at Porsche Beaverton and fell in love with it. This car is perfect - it's so much fun to drive and has great power. I thought I would miss the 6 cylinder of the Cayman, but I don't. The 718's turbo 4 has more power, is definitely faster, and the PDK is a dream. The sound of the 4 reminds us of the 914, but the 718 demonstrates 50 years of constant improvement. We couldn't be happier with the 718!

Your 2020 Porsche Boxter S sounds like an amazing car! It's great to hear that it's your daily driver and that you've had such positive experiences with it. It's clear that you have a lot of experience with Porsche models, so it means a lot that you think the Boxter is the best one yet. The performance sounds fantastic and it's no surprise that people have commented on how great it looks!

  3. Dedric Thompson 2025-04-23

This is my third Porsche and I must say, it's the best one yet! The performance and road handling are even better than a new corvette, and it's $20k less! Plus, the fuel economy is better than the 13 model. I test drove the new corvette and the BMW, but the Porsche was the clear winner in terms of ride comfort, controls, and handling. We love taking this vehicle on long trips because not only is it fun to drive, but the fuel economy and comfort are top-notch. And let me tell you, the local service from Porsche is absolutely first-rate compared to other dealerships (the corvette dealer is terrible). Trust me, if you buy a Porsche, you won't be disappointed!

The performance of the turbo four is excellent, and the 4.0 NA engine is a different beast. The Boxster simply drives and does exactly what you ask of it, and feels wonderful doing so. Add in the flat 6 (even with the GPF pipes that Europe gets) and it sounds and drives amazing. The engine note is a little muted versus the 981 (2012 - 2016) Boxster, but has actually grown on me over that engine's note when on the boil, not to mention the added punch through the whole rev range. Put it in Sport Plus with the PDK, and the engine sings along from 3500 to redline the whole time, and feels natural and comfortable doing so. It is not an inexpensive Porsche, and honestly, after a couple of air cooled 911s, I never thought I'd have a Boxster, but the 718 is borderline exotic, and to me feels more like the old air cooled 911s than the current 911 (which to me feels more of a GT, especially at +/- 500 lbs more than the Boxster). All in all, I think it's a great car, and I feel lucky to have one of these somewhat rare beasts in my garage.

  5. Jordi Hirthe 2025-02-04

We are thrilled to introduce our Carrera White PDK 718 Boxster S, which is our fourth Boxster and undoubtedly the best one yet. The new series boasts a powerful motor that delivers an intoxicating performance throughout the rev range, although the sound may be less compelling at lower RPMs. Compared to the 987 series, the 981/982 series has always felt more refined, which may translate to a bit less connectedness at times. However, the new 718 takes this refinement to the next level of sophistication and driving excellence. The car's smoothed-out and refined demeanor translates to a smoothness in effort on the road, along with a maturity that is hard to match. It's almost impossible not to enjoy this car when driving on a backroad. Additionally, the interior and exterior are subjectively the best-looking yet. Overall, we are extremely pleased with this next generation, which truly delivers everything one expects or needs in a sports car.
