The Cadillac ATS (ATS as an acronym for Alpha Touring Sedan) is a compact executive car (D-segment) manufactured by General Motors and marketed by Cadillac from 2012 to 2019, available in both four-door sedan and two-door coupé body styles. In the US, it is the brand's first locally-built entry-level premium car since the Cimarron, and in Europe, it is the successor of the Swedish-built Cadillac BLS. The ATS was developed at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and assembled the ATS at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan.
The ATS is based on General Motors' Alpha platform and is offered in either rear- or all-wheel drive configurations. The ATS base engine had been a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter I-4 gasoline engine that produces 202 hp (151 kW), until the 2016 model year. Optional engines include a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline engine that produces 272 hp (203 kW) and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine that produces 321 hp (239 kW). The 2.0-liter engine replaced the 2.5-liter engine as the base engine for the 2017 model year. All versions were equipped with a 6-speed GM 6L45 Hydra-Matic automatic transmission as standard until the 2015 model year. An 8-speed automatic transmission was introduced for the 2016 model year. The 2.0-liter turbocharged, rear-wheel drive version can be mated to an optional 6-speed Tremec M3L TR-3160 manual transmission.
Prior to the debut of the ATS, Cadillac's smallest vehicle was the E-segment CTS. The CTS was comparable in price to D-segment competitors like the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series, the Lexus IS and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, however was comparable in size and weight to the more expensive BMW 5 Series. Although Cadillac believed that customers would favor a Mercedes-Benz E-Class-sized sedan at the price of a 3 Series, this assumption was proven to be incorrect. Cadillac's research found that target customers who already owned vehicles like the 3 Series or A4 did not want a larger vehicle.
Cadillac debuted the ATS to the press in the United States in January 2012, placed the ATS into production in July 2012 and began selling the ATS in the United States in August 2012 as a 2013 model. GM began selling the ATS in China in November 2013. Cadillac sold the ATS in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, and South Korea. The ATS was replaced by the Cadillac CT4 in 2019 for the 2020 model year.

- Summary: My rear differential completely stopped on the freeway, not moving and saying over 100 mph and my car was barely rolling I am extremely lucky that I did not get rear ended because I was very close to that happening, a few cars had swerved to not crash. Luckily I was able to push my car to the exit and get off of the freeway to wait for the flatbed to pick me up. It is available to be inspected it’s just parked until I can get it fixed, the part is $1800 and I have not been able to afford it. I had a mechanic come and look at it and I was told what part it is. There was absolutely no warning lights for this issue.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V203000 (Steering). The failure mileage was 87,000.

The contact decelerated and pulled into the driveway of a business. However, the contact was able to park on the side of the driveway. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering gear motor bolts were fractured. Additionally, the independent mechanic diagnosed that the failure was associated with GM Campaign Number: N202301950 (Loss of Power Assist, Steering-Gear Motor Bolts Broken). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under the recall as the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 49,500.

The contact stated that while his son was exiting his driveway, the vehicle lost power steering assist with the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the bolts holding the steering motor had corroded and fallen out of the rack and pinion. The contact called the dealer and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle; the dealer referred him to the manufacturer for assistance. The contact immediately called the manufacturer and was informed that there was a warranty on the vehicle for the rack and pinion; however, the vehicle no longer qualified under the warranty. THE FIRST TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LONG CADILLAC DEALER LOCATED IN SOUTHBOROUGH, MA WHERE THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

GM HAD A REPRESENTATIVE INSPECT THE CAR AND PULL THE "BLACK BOX" DATA ON OCTOBER 8, 2015. MAXIMUM SPEED DURING THE INCIDENT WAS 38MPH. WERE ABLE TO JACK UP THE CAR. FRONT WHEEL HANGING LOOSE AND EASY TO MOVE BY HAND. STRUT/SHOCK/SPRINT TOWER ATTACHMENT BROKEN AT WHEEL HUB BEHIND BRAKE DISK. FRONT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE-AXEL BROKEN. ANTI-ROLL BAR LINKAGE BROKEN.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2015 Cadillac Ats.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS sedan vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to September 2, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the coil antenna module that powers the rear defogger system may generate excessive heat due to excessive cycling or continuous operation.
- Consequence: If the coil antenna generates excessive heat, there is an increased risk of a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the Electronic Climate Control module to remove the automatic rear defogger "on" function, free of charge. The recall began on October 16, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15299.

- Components: VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 25, 2012, to June 25, 2015. The affected vehicles may experience the roof panel closing automatically when the non-recessed switches are pressed and the roof panel is open. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 118, "Power-Operated Window, Partition, and Roof Panel Systems."
- Consequence: Because the switch is not recessed, the roof panel switch may inadvertently be pressed resulting in unintended auto-closure of the roof panel, increasing the risk of personal injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners and dealers will replace the roof console accessory switch trim plate, free of charge. The recall began on August 19, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15568. Note this recall supersedes 15V-106.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:PEDALS AND LINKAGES
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Cadillac ATS and CTS vehicles. The affected vehicles have a bracket between the brake pedal assembly and the rod that actuates the brakes that may fracture during normal brake pedal operation.
- Consequence: If the bracket fractures, the driver would not be able to apply the brakes, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle and replace any affected bracket, free of charge. The recall began July 6, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 15352.

As an owner of four consecutive 3 series BMWs, I was disappointed with the latest model. However, I found the perfect fit with the Cadillac ATS. It has wonderfully direct steering, a stiff chassis, and the perfect balance of sporty handling and comfort. Although there has been much talk about the CUE system not being as easy to use as others, I found it perfectly usable once I got used to it. While the fuel economy is not meeting its EPA estimate, I believe it may have something to do with the way I drive it.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I recently purchased a used car with very low mileage. It's a 2-door model that I chose after selling my Corvette. It’s been a great car. I’ve never had any engine trouble. There had been just some minor recalls but service has been on par and always had a brand new loaner. Cue system was under warrant and had been replaced as Wes the rear view camera. I’ve most had any trouble since. The lower on this little devil is great and the ride is smooth and quite. Love the nose sound system. My only qualm is that the rear seating is a little tight. But don’t usually have anyone to transport. The way I drive I’m a little heavy on the peddle or my mpg would be accurate at 22.5mpg

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to say that I'm so glad I purchased my 2014 ATS4 with 74K miles in 2020. I absolutely love it! The only thing to keep in mind is that the backseat can be a bit tight, but there's ample trunk space. It's also really easy to maintain and I haven't had any issues with it. Overall, I highly recommend the ATS4 (all wheel drive) - it's phenomenal!

The 2015 ATS 2.0T Luxury model has not met my expectations, despite owning two previous Cadillacs. The door pillar can make it difficult for average to large individuals to get in and out of the driver's seat. Additionally, the passenger room is limited and uncomfortable for four adults. The maximum load capacity for passengers and cargo is just over 800 lbs. While the moonroof can be noisy when open, the vehicle itself is not excessively loud. Although the 2.0 claims to have good mileage, I have only been able to achieve just under 20 mpg. While the Luxury model may not meet the standards of foreign cars' standard models, it is still a quality vehicle. While I have driven my 2006 Ford Ranger more than my ATS, I believe that the Cadillac still has its merits. If you are considering a small sedan, it may be worth exploring other options.

I bought a car for my son a year ago, thinking it would last him through high school and college. Unfortunately, in the 14 months since then, it has been at the dealer 7 times. Every time I turn around, there seems to be a sensor going out or the thermostat acting up. They replaced the thermostat once and charged me about $400, but then 2 months later we had trouble again and they told me it needed a new one because the original one had gone bad. Then, 4 months later, they told me the same thing. Luckily, I kept all the receipts. Just 2 weeks ago, we had to replace the fuel rail sensor for $753, and now it's still having the same problem. It even left my son stranded once. My advice is to stay away from ATS. Most people I have spoken to have had the same issues. It's just junk. I got rid of it.

I reached out to the dealership who sold me the run flat tires and also tweeted GM, but unfortunately, no one seemed interested in hearing me out. After my crash on August 11, 2014, I discovered that several other ATS owners had experienced the same issue. It's concerning that no action has been taken by GM, the tire manufacturer, or the safety organizations. Are they waiting for someone to lose their life? My daughter and I were lucky to survive the crash, but it was a close call. I'm hoping to raise awareness about this issue and prevent others from experiencing the same trauma. Hi there! I've had this car for 15 months and wanted to share my experience with you. It's had a few recalls, but the dealership has been great about taking care of them. I also had to get new brakes, new tires, and a rear end alignment, but now it runs like a dream! I do have to say that the room inside is a bit tight, but overall I'm happy with my purchase.
