The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972, succeeding the New Class Sedans, and currently in its eight generation.

The 5 Series was initially available as a sedan, with a wagon/estate body style (marketed as "Touring") added in 1991 and a 5-door fastback configuration (marketed as "Gran Turismo") available from 2009 to 2017. Each successive generation carries a distinct internal E- designation.

The first generation of 5 Series was powered by naturally aspirated four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines. Following generations have been powered by four-cylinder, six-cylinder, V8 and V10 engines that are either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Since 1982, diesel engines have been included in the 5 Series range.

The 5 Series is BMW's second-best-selling model after the 3 Series. On 29 January 2008, the 5 millionth 5 Series was manufactured, a 530d sedan in Carbon Black Metallic.

BMW's three-digit model naming convention began with the first 5 Series, thus the 5 Series was BMW's first model line to use "Series" in the name.

Since the E28, all generations of 5 Series have included an "M" model, called the BMW M5.

Common 2007 Bmw 530i problems

The 2007 BMW 530i is known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include:

  • Radio malfunction: Some owners have reported issues with the radio, such as it not working or displaying incorrect information. This problem could be due to a faulty radio unit or a wiring issue.
  • Passenger mirror and steering wheel not coming back to memory: This is a known issue with the 2007 530i. The passenger mirror and steering wheel are supposed to return to their previous positions when the car is started, but sometimes they do not. This issue might be due to a malfunctioning memory function or a problem with the electrical system.
  • Squeaky window during operation: This problem can be caused by a lack of lubrication in the window tracks or a faulty window regulator. Regular maintenance and inspection can help prevent this issue.
  • Transmission gear selection only in manual cars: Some manual transmission 530i models have reported issues with gear selection, which can lead to difficulty shifting gears or engaging the clutch.
  • Axillary fans quitting: The auxiliary fans are responsible for cooling the engine and other components. If they fail, it can lead to overheating and potential engine damage.
  • VANOS solenoid issues: The VANOS system is responsible for adjusting the valve timing to optimize engine performance. A malfunctioning VANOS solenoid can lead to reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, and rough idling.
  • Thermostat sticking open: A thermostat that sticks open can lead to reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and difficulty maintaining a consistent temperature.
  • Power steering lines leaking: Leaks in the power steering lines can lead to a loss of power steering assist, making it more difficult to turn the steering wheel.
  • Clunking or rattling in the rear: This issue can indicate ball joint premature failure, which can lead to a decrease in ride quality and potential safety issues.
  • Spare tire area prone to moisture collection and flooding: This issue can be caused by clogged sunroof drains, which can lead to water accumulation in the spare tire well.
  • Rapid battery drain or frequent dead batteries: This problem can be caused by various factors, such as a faulty battery, a malfunctioning alternator, or an electrical system issue.

It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the longevity and reliability of the 2007 BMW 530i. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these problems and ensure the vehicle remains in good working condition.
