The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972, succeeding the New Class Sedans, and currently in its eight generation.

The 5 Series was initially available as a sedan, with a wagon/estate body style (marketed as "Touring") added in 1991 and a 5-door fastback configuration (marketed as "Gran Turismo") available from 2009 to 2017. Each successive generation carries a distinct internal E- designation.

The first generation of 5 Series was powered by naturally aspirated four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines. Following generations have been powered by four-cylinder, six-cylinder, V8 and V10 engines that are either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Since 1982, diesel engines have been included in the 5 Series range.

The 5 Series is BMW's second-best-selling model after the 3 Series. On 29 January 2008, the 5 millionth 5 Series was manufactured, a 530d sedan in Carbon Black Metallic.

BMW's three-digit model naming convention began with the first 5 Series, thus the 5 Series was BMW's first model line to use "Series" in the name.

Since the E28, all generations of 5 Series have included an "M" model, called the BMW M5.

Common 1995 Bmw 530i problems

The BMW 530i 1995 is known for several common problems, primarily related to its engine, cooling system, and electrical components.

  • Oil Pump Bolts: Another less well-known problem with the V8 engines is that the oil pump bolts can come loose, leading to potential engine damage if not checked regularly. It is recommended to have these bolts checked every few years to prevent any issues.
  • Cooling System Faults: The cooling system in the E34 BMW is relatively robust but can suffer from cruddy OEM parts, leading to issues such as coolant level sending unit failures, water pump impeller disintegration, fan clutch locking, and leaking radiators. Regular maintenance and replacement of these parts can help prevent these issues.
  • Seat Recliners Not Working: This issue is caused by motor cables backing out of their plugs, requiring seat removal and patience to fix. It is a common problem in these models.
  • Cracked Intake Manifolds: The plastic intake manifolds used in these models are known to break down after 100k-150k miles, causing rough idle, CEL, cold weather starts, and loss of power.
  • Valvetrain Noise: If the car has over 100k miles and uses the recommended oil, it can experience valvetrain noise from the lifters. Using thicker oil and Lucas oil stabilizer can help quiet this noise.
  • Oil Leaks: Common places for oil leaks in these cars include VANOS gaskets, crank and cam seals, timing chain gasket, valve cover gaskets, and valley pan gaskets.
  • Fuel System Weaknesses: The fuel system in the E34 5 Series is known to be weaker than in other models, with the fuel filter needing regular replacement, especially if it has not been replaced in a long while .
  • Electrical Glitches: Many modern cars suffer from electrical issues, and the 5 Series is no different. Some drivers have reported intermittent problems with the indicators, radio switch, and dashboard cluster. The first thing to check is the fuse box, which could be at fault.

In summary, while the BMW 530i 1995 is a reliable car overall, it is prone to several common problems related to its engine, cooling system, and electrical components. Regular maintenance and replacement of worn-out parts can help prevent these issues and ensure the car's longevity.

  • Manufacturer: BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. A MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE OF A COOLANT SYSTEM COMPONENT, SUCH AS A THERMOSTAT, WATER PUMP, OR FAN BELT, CAN RESULT IN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED COOLANT TEMPERATURE AND SYSTEM PRESSURE. IF THE INDICATIONS OF A CRITICAL OVERHEATING CONDITION IS NOT NOTICED BY THE DRIVER, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT DAMAGE TO, OR FAILURE OF, A COOLANT SYSTEM COMPONENT COULD OCCUR.
  • Consequence: IF A CRACK WERE TO FORM OR A SEAM WERE TO SEPARATE IN THE HEATER CORE END PIECE, HOT COOLANT COULD SUDDENLY BE EXPELLED, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW DESIGN RADIATOR CAP TO CONTROL PRESSURE AND PROVIDE GREATER COOLANT OVERFLOW IN THE EVENT OF OVERHEATING.

  • Manufacturer: BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE
  • Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
  • Summary: THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THROTTLE CABLES ARE ATTACHED TO THE SAME THROTTLE VALVE ACTUATING LEVER AT THE THROTTLE HOUSING. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE PLASTIC BUSHING ON EITHER CABLE COULD BREAK DUE TO ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES COUPLED WITH VIBRATION. IF THE BUSHING BREAKS, THE OUTER CABLE HOUSING CAN SEPARATE FROM THE BUSHING. IN THIS CASE, DURING APPLICATION OF THE THROTTLE PEDAL WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL BEING ENGAGED, THE OUTER TUBE COULD CATCH ON THE EDGE OF THE BROKEN BUSHING.
  • Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE THE THROTTLE VALVE TO REMAIN PARTIALLY OPEN. IT HIS WERE TO OCCUR, THE CAR MIGHT NOT DECELERATE AS EXPECTED INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SPRING STEEL CLIP ON THE OUTER TUBE OF EACH CABLE IN THE AREA OF THE ADJUSTING SCREW AND PLASTIC BUSHING. THE CLIP IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE OUTER TUBE FROM DISLODGING FROM THE BUSHING.
