The BMW 5 Series is an executive car manufactured and marketed by BMW since 1972, succeeding the New Class Sedans, and currently in its eight generation.

The 5 Series was initially available as a sedan, with a wagon/estate body style (marketed as "Touring") added in 1991 and a 5-door fastback configuration (marketed as "Gran Turismo") available from 2009 to 2017. Each successive generation carries a distinct internal E- designation.

The first generation of 5 Series was powered by naturally aspirated four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines. Following generations have been powered by four-cylinder, six-cylinder, V8 and V10 engines that are either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. Since 1982, diesel engines have been included in the 5 Series range.

The 5 Series is BMW's second-best-selling model after the 3 Series. On 29 January 2008, the 5 millionth 5 Series was manufactured, a 530d sedan in Carbon Black Metallic.

BMW's three-digit model naming convention began with the first 5 Series, thus the 5 Series was BMW's first model line to use "Series" in the name.

Since the E28, all generations of 5 Series have included an "M" model, called the BMW M5.

Common 2006 Bmw 530i problems

The BMW 530i 2006 is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which has undergone three different specifications during its production

. The first version, the M54, was used until 2005 and produced 228 horsepower. From 2005 to 2007, the N52 was used, which increased power to 255 horsepower. Finally, in 2007, the N53 was introduced, which further increased power to 268 horsepower.

One common problem with the N52 engine is a ticking noise from the camshaft lifters on cold starts, caused by insufficient air-free oil reaching the lifters

. This issue can be resolved by replacing the lifters with part number 11 33 7 605 330.

Another common problem with the 530i 2006 is failed coils and high-pressure fuel pumps, which are more likely to occur as the car ages

. Additionally, high crankcase pressure can result in valve cover leakages, a problem that has been addressed by BMW through Technical Service Bulletin SI B11 08 03.

In terms of transmission, some owners have reported abrupt shifting from first to second gear. However, the overall reliability of the transmission is not specifically mentioned in the search results.

The 530i 2006 can also suffer from various cosmetic and functional issues, such as a rough idle, vibrations that can be felt in the passenger seat, loud grinding noises from the brakes, squealing brakes, a popped-up chrome covering on the left side driver's seat window glass, and a right side rear door that does not open from the inside. These issues may require attention from a dealer or mechanic.

In summary, the BMW 530i 2006 has several common problems, including engine issues with the N52 engine, transmission shifting problems, and various cosmetic and functional issues. Owners and potential buyers should be aware of these problems and consider them when purchasing or maintaining this vehicle.
