The fourth generation of the BMW 3 Series range of compact executive cars is designated under the model code E46, which was produced by the German automaker BMW from 1997 to 2006, and was the successor to the E36 3 Series which ceased production in 2000. First introduced in November 1997, the E46 was available in sedan, coupé, convertible, station wagon and hatchback body styles. The latter has been marketed as the 3 Series Compact.

The M3 performance model was introduced in June 2000 with a 2-door coupé body style, followed by the convertible counterpart in April 2001. The M3 is powered by the BMW S54 straight-six engine with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed SMG-II automated manual transmission.

The E46 line-up was phased out starting from late 2004, following the introduction of the E90 3 Series sedans. However, the E46 coupé and convertible body styles remained in production until August 2006.

Common 2005 Bmw 325ci problems

The BMW 325ci 2005 is known for several common problems that owners have reported. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the cooling system, which can start causing problems around 80,000 miles.

Another common problem is related to the engine, specifically the M54 engine, which is known for its reliability. However, some parts may need to be replaced periodically, such as the oil gaskets at the main pan, filter housing, and valve covers, which can cost around $250 each.

The climate system can also be problematic, with issues such as electrical failure, refrigerant leakage, and problems with the AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, and automatic climate system. These issues can result in the heater or air conditioning system not working properly, and may require expensive repairs.

Finally, it's worth noting that BMWs are generally more expensive to maintain than other cars, such as Hondas or Toyotas, due to higher parts costs and more frequent replacement of suspension components and electronic sensors. However, many BMW owners find the driving experience to be worth the extra cost.

In summary, the BMW 325ci 2005 is known for common problems related to the cooling system, engine, climate system, and overall maintenance costs. It's important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to budget accordingly for maintenance and repairs.
