Common Acura Tsx problems
The Acura TSX is a luxury midsize car known for its dependability, but it still has some common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most common issues based on model years:
- Faulty Tire Pressure Sensor (2012 Model Year): Some 2012 Acura TSX owners have reported problems with the tire pressure sensor, where the low tire warning light activates despite the tire pressure being accurate. Replacing the faulty tire pressure sensors with new ones is a common fix for this problem.
- Engine Problems (2010 Model Year): Some 2010 Acura TSX owners have complained about a variety of engine problems, especially during winter when the engine becomes colder than usual. Affected vehicles may refuse to turn on at cold starts, produce rattling noises, and need a jump start to get going. Once owners brought their car to the dealer, they were told the noise was caused by a bad VTC actuator. Replacing the failed actuator is a common fix for this issue.
- Excessive Oil Consumption (2009 Model Year): Some 2009 Acura TSX owners have reported problems with excessive oil consumption. Affected vehicles may have their check oil and engine light activated often, signaling a need to get their car’s engine oil checked or refilled. Some drivers report burning as much as a quart and a half of oil every 1,000 miles. Although there have been no recalls to address this issue, some Acura dealerships may cover repairs related to excessive engine oil consumption.
- Brake Problems: While not specific to any model year, brake problems are a common issue in the Acura TSX. Some owners have reported issues with the brake system, including brake pedal pulsation, brake noise, and brake rotor warping. These issues may require replacing the brake rotors, brake pads, or other brake components.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Acura TSX owners. If you're considering purchasing a used Acura TSX, it's essential to be aware of these issues and consider them when making your decision. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems or catch them early before they become more severe and expensive to fix.
Is the Acura TSX a reliable car?
The Acura TSX enjoys excellent reliability ratings, with some of its model years scoring better than others. RepairPal gave it a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0, ranking it 2nd out of the 31 luxury midsize cars in its category.
Which Acura TSX to avoid?
Although there are a few years that stand out as excellent, there are some Acura TSX years to avoid. We recommend staying away from 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2012 models. The biggest issue that appeared with these models was engine problems and transmission failure.
Why did Acura discontinue the TSX?
Another key point, the TSX was a popular car among consumers, but it was not as profitable for Acura as the TLX. Hence, Acura decided to discontinue the TSX in order to focus on its more profitable models.

- Date Complaint: 2024-07-18
- VIN: JH4CU2F44CC
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Check engine Transmission ABS VSA TPMS All lights went on suddenly. While I was driving suddenly all lights came on dashboard. I’ve used OBD scanner to find the root cause but the problem can’t be detected. I went to Acura dealer in NJ and paid $250. They inspected, and said it could be this Instrument cluster or that ECu. But they did not said anything concrete what could be faulty. Both are expensive to replace around $2000-$4000 each The lights comes and goes. These lights are not persistent. I’ve been driving with it. Sometimes when the lights are on AC DOESNT WORK, steering loses control for a second. When it loses control car swerves. It’s dangerous but I’ve been driving with caution ️ In past, electric power steering was malfunction and I had it replaced for $1500. I will never purchase Acura or Honda for lifetime It should be recalled

- Summary: I first reported this on July 7, 2023 under NHTSA ID#11530893. My wife was driving when the Continental tire size 225/50/R17 suddenly blew out at approximately 70 MPH. Immediately pulled to shoulder of highway. This was a very tense moment at speed running on the rim to get immediately off the road. Fortunately there was no vehicles in neighboring lanes as we swerved and got out of harms way. Continental Tire dealer was contacted and shown the 2 pieces of separated tire. We were informed there is an open recall for tread separating from side wall of Continental Tires. Also informed that my DOT Tire identifier was not listed under the recall. No recourse was taken/offered by Continental dealer.

- Date Complaint: 2023-09-10
- VIN: JH4CL96968C
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: 1. The rack and pinion steering rack is leaking power steering hydraulic fluid. The power assist is not working and the vehicle is undrivable. Putting in new fluid does not help as it just drains out from he pinion within half a day. 2. Luckily, the seals on the rack and pinion failed in the community as low speeds and power steering was lost. Drove back home. No one was hurt. Afraid to think of what would have happened if this had occurred at highway speeds. 3. Not yet confirmed by dealer as car needs towing, which costs money as closest dealer is quiet far away. But many reports of similar incidents across online communities for this vehicle, where folks had to shell out thousands to replace the entire rack and pinion system. The seals are sealed inside and cannot be serviced. 4. Component has not been removed from the car yet or inspected by anyone. Yet to be removed for replacement 5. There were no warning lights, sounds or indications of any kind. No warning of loss of hydraulic pressure or air in system. Just a weird whining noise began when negotiating a slow speed turn and within a minute, all fluid drained and all power assist was lost.

Vehicle year: 2011
The V6 TSX is a fantastic vehicle, it's really enjoyable to drive and the acceleration is impressive. According to Edmunds, the 0-60 sprints are timed at 6.4 seconds, but in reality, it's more like 5.7-5.8 seconds, with 1/4 miles coming in at about 14.5 seconds. These times were measured in sport mode. Overall, it's a great car that's really fun to drive!

Vehicle year: 2012
I recently traded in my Honda Accord with 199,000 miles on it. I really appreciated the reliability and fuel efficiency of the 4-cylinder Accord, and I was able to find a TSX for about the same price. I'm not quite sure if it's a sporty, economical car or an economical, sporty car, but it's definitely smaller than the Accord and comparable in size and appointments to the BMW 3 series. While the engine performance isn't quite up to par with the BMW, it's still a great car. The 'Technology' package is fantastic, and even though there are a lot of features I don't use, the stereo is amazing! I'm looking forward to driving it for another 199,000 miles. In another review, someone mentioned that with 93 octane gas and a K&N air filter, the car runs like a dream even with over 60,000 miles on it. They also added a pair of front slotted rotors and pads from Tirerack. The only downside is that the backseat is a bit tight for adults, and taller drivers over 6'2 might feel cramped. In yet another review, someone mentioned that even with over 70,000 miles on it, the car is still running great. They're getting a bit tired of paying for premium gas, but the performance difference is definitely noticeable.

Vehicle year: 2009
We've owned this car for a year now and it has been a fantastic experience. It's comfortable, sporty, and fuel efficient, and we haven't had a single issue with it. We were looking for something upscale, safe, and completely reliable, and this car delivered on all fronts. We also feel that it offers the best value in its class. While some other cars may have better performance specs, we don't need a lot of power or acceleration in our urban environment. That being said, we've never had any issues accelerating onto the highway from an on-ramp. The only downside is that the taupe interior looks great but can be difficult to keep clean.

Vehicle year: 2006
I purchased my 2006 TSX in 2009, and it was pre-loved. It was a significant upgrade from my Mazda6, and I found the car to be very reliable. Essentially, it was a Honda in a different skin all the way around. I trusted the car to go for at least 200k. However, I took a friend to buy a new car, a BMW, and ended up trading it in for one as well. The TSX was a great, safe car, and I loved the standard Bluetooth in a 2006! Additionally, all the standard features were impressive compared to the not-so-standard features on the BMW :(

I recently purchased a lightly used 2012 TSX with the Tech Package and I am extremely satisfied with it. The reviews I read prior to buying were spot on. The more I drive it, the more I appreciate its efficiency. The handling is similar to that of a sports car with nimble steering response and smooth acceleration. I highly recommend getting the Tech package as it really enhances the already handsomely designed cabin.

The exterior side panels along the windshield of this car have defective clips that repeatedly come off. Despite the dealership claiming that I was the first to experience this issue three times, it appears to be a common problem. Additionally, I have noticed that the trunk and hood are very thin and light, causing them to vibrate at speeds between 60 and 70mph. The air conditioning system also seems to have a mind of its own, turning on high without any input. However, I agree with all other comments regarding the car's comfort, good road feel, and nice pick up. While the voice command feature needs improvement, the navi-lighting and paint quality also require attention as they show minor scratching too easily.
Ernie Ruecker 2025-04-13
Vehicle year: 2005
The car drives great, but unfortunately, the paint quality is not up to par. Acura has not been able to provide adequate support for this issue. If you are considering purchasing a red car, I would advise against it, as the paint may turn pink over time. Additionally, it is important to note that this car requires premium fuel, which can be more expensive than regular fuel. Overall, owning this car may be more costly than owning a Honda.
Keven Treutel 2025-03-25

This vehicle has been back to the dealership multiple times for service, with issues such as noises, rattles, loose parts, and defective seat brackets. The door trim also experiences noises, creeks, and vibrations/rattles, which may indicate a design defect in the TSX design. Despite seven attempts, the problems have not been corrected, and the seats are wearing prematurely. It is disappointing to see a decline in Japanese quality. However, we can hope that Honda/Acura will take steps to improve their quality control processes.
Marquis West 2025-03-17
Vehicle year: 2004
Although I was initially impressed by the price/value of this car, I have unfortunately experienced numerous issues with it, including problems with the brakes, AC, stereo, and console lights. It appears that the car was not designed with affordability in mind when it comes to servicing. As a result, the total cost of ownership has been comparable to more expensive cars that I had considered, which come with better warranties. In hindsight, I should have opted for a BMW.
Loyal Mosciski 2025-02-23
Vehicle year: 2007
I've owned two new Acuras so far, and while I enjoyed my previous one for 9 years, my current 06 TSX has been a bit of a disappointment. While the performance, looks, and features are good, I've experienced a multitude of rattles and squeaks in the interior within just 6 months of owning it. Additionally, the wiper system on the driver's side has been ineffective, with fluid dribbling onto the windshield and the wipers smudging and smearing instead of clearing it properly. These quality issues have been surprising and distracting from the overall driving experience.
