Common Acura Tsx problems
The Acura TSX is a luxury midsize car known for its dependability, but it still has some common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most common issues based on model years:
- Faulty Tire Pressure Sensor (2012 Model Year): Some 2012 Acura TSX owners have reported problems with the tire pressure sensor, where the low tire warning light activates despite the tire pressure being accurate. Replacing the faulty tire pressure sensors with new ones is a common fix for this problem.
- Engine Problems (2010 Model Year): Some 2010 Acura TSX owners have complained about a variety of engine problems, especially during winter when the engine becomes colder than usual. Affected vehicles may refuse to turn on at cold starts, produce rattling noises, and need a jump start to get going. Once owners brought their car to the dealer, they were told the noise was caused by a bad VTC actuator. Replacing the failed actuator is a common fix for this issue.
- Excessive Oil Consumption (2009 Model Year): Some 2009 Acura TSX owners have reported problems with excessive oil consumption. Affected vehicles may have their check oil and engine light activated often, signaling a need to get their car’s engine oil checked or refilled. Some drivers report burning as much as a quart and a half of oil every 1,000 miles. Although there have been no recalls to address this issue, some Acura dealerships may cover repairs related to excessive engine oil consumption.
- Brake Problems: While not specific to any model year, brake problems are a common issue in the Acura TSX. Some owners have reported issues with the brake system, including brake pedal pulsation, brake noise, and brake rotor warping. These issues may require replacing the brake rotors, brake pads, or other brake components.
These are some of the most common problems reported by Acura TSX owners. If you're considering purchasing a used Acura TSX, it's essential to be aware of these issues and consider them when making your decision. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent these problems or catch them early before they become more severe and expensive to fix.
Is the Acura TSX a reliable car?
The Acura TSX enjoys excellent reliability ratings, with some of its model years scoring better than others. RepairPal gave it a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0, ranking it 2nd out of the 31 luxury midsize cars in its category.
Which Acura TSX to avoid?
Although there are a few years that stand out as excellent, there are some Acura TSX years to avoid. We recommend staying away from 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, and 2012 models. The biggest issue that appeared with these models was engine problems and transmission failure.
Why did Acura discontinue the TSX?
Another key point, the TSX was a popular car among consumers, but it was not as profitable for Acura as the TLX. Hence, Acura decided to discontinue the TSX in order to focus on its more profitable models.

- Date Complaint: 2024-07-18
- VIN: JH4CU2F44CC
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: Check engine Transmission ABS VSA TPMS All lights went on suddenly. While I was driving suddenly all lights came on dashboard. I’ve used OBD scanner to find the root cause but the problem can’t be detected. I went to Acura dealer in NJ and paid $250. They inspected, and said it could be this Instrument cluster or that ECu. But they did not said anything concrete what could be faulty. Both are expensive to replace around $2000-$4000 each The lights comes and goes. These lights are not persistent. I’ve been driving with it. Sometimes when the lights are on AC DOESNT WORK, steering loses control for a second. When it loses control car swerves. It’s dangerous but I’ve been driving with caution ️ In past, electric power steering was malfunction and I had it replaced for $1500. I will never purchase Acura or Honda for lifetime It should be recalled

Fortunately there was no vehicles in neighboring lanes as we swerved and got out of harms way. Continental Tire dealer was contacted and shown the 2 pieces of separated tire. We were informed there is an open recall for tread separating from side wall of Continental Tires. Also informed that my DOT Tire identifier was not listed under the recall. - VIN: JH4CL96968C

Putting in new fluid does not help as it just drains out from he pinion within half a day. 2. Luckily, the seals on the rack and pinion failed in the community as low speeds and power steering was lost. Drove back home. No one was hurt. Afraid to think of what would have happened if this had occurred at highway speeds. 3. Not yet confirmed by dealer as car needs towing, which costs money as closest dealer is quiet far away. But many reports of similar incidents across online communities for this vehicle, where folks had to shell out thousands to replace the entire rack and pinion system. The seals are sealed inside and cannot be serviced. 4. Component has not been removed from the car yet or inspected by anyone. Yet to be removed for replacement 5. There were no warning lights, sounds or indications of any kind. No warning of loss of hydraulic pressure or air in system. Just a weird whining noise began when negotiating a slow speed turn and within a minute, all fluid drained and all power assist was lost.

I bought this car to replace my old Volvo S70 as my daily commuter. I was looking for a reliable, comfortable, sporty, and fuel-efficient car. I have only driven the TSX for 700+ miles, but it's been a blast to drive. It has more creature comforts than any other car in its class, and I'm getting an impressive 32.6 actual MPG in 80% highway and 20% city Boston commuter traffic. I decided not to get the navigation system since I already know how to get to and from work, and the top-of-the-line Garmin is $1300 less than the Acura nav system. The car is perfect for weekend trips with my family of four. Although it's not as fancy or stylish as the IS-250/BMW 3 series, it still looks great and is also about $7-9k less!

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new silver tsx special edition automatic! It sounds like it's exceeding all of your expectations with its rock solid build quality, luxurious comfort, and ultra responsive steering, acceleration, and brakes. It's great to hear that you're having a blast driving it and that the special edition package has really taken this already great car to another level. Thanks for sharing your positive experience!

I recently traded in my '04 Honda Accord for the new '09 TSX and I am absolutely loving it! The car has great performance, a stylish profile, and fast pickup with its 201 hp. The interior is sleek and modern, starting with the textured dash and easy-to-read display on the dash. The XM/radio sounds great and the Bluetooth feature is so handy. There are plenty of storage areas and the trunk space is large. I cannot say enough good things about this car! I highly recommend this sleek and fun-to-drive car that will definitely turn heads wherever you go.

It's great to hear that you're enjoying your TSX! Although it may not have all the luxury features of your previous Saab, it sounds like the TSX is still a great value. The car drives great and it's wonderful to hear that the voice recognition and bluetooth features are working flawlessly. It's interesting to note that you had to adjust your driving style coming from the Saab, but it's great to hear that the TSX never feels underpowered.

This is a fantastic car! It's good-looking, extremely reliable, and offers the best lease value. Plus, it comes with a power moonroof, xenon headlights, foglights, bluetooth, leather, and adjustable heated front seats as standard. The stereo is decent, and there are even A/C vents in the rear and a cooled center storage bin. The 4 cylinder 200hp engine is powerful enough for highway passing and delivers great gas mileage. I test drove several cars to try something different, but none compare to the TSX's overall balance of price, standard equipment, fuel efficiency, quality, and style. I completely disagree with the reviewer who listed the

The TSX is a great luxury car, but unfortunately my experience with Acura of Ocean has been disappointing. The dealership could improve their customer service as they have been difficult to work with and not very attentive to customer needs. After a very expensive service, my car broke down on the Garden State Parkway due to a dead battery, which was supposed to have been checked by Acura of Ocean just a day before. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I hope that Acura of Ocean can improve their service in the future.

The 2009 TSX has a spirited feel with a responsive engine, but there are a few issues that need to be addressed. Although the dealer attempted to fix a known issue with a service bulletin, the noise from the rear shelf area persisted. Additionally, the Navi system has been malfunctioning. The on-center feel at highway speeds is poor and requires constant steering correction. The seats are also too firm and can cause discomfort during long road trips. These issues need to be resolved to ensure a top-quality driving experience.

Although the experience with this car has been disappointing, it is important to note that it has only been driven for 5k miles in 19 months. While there have been some issues with the car's performance, it is important to consider the potential factors that may have contributed to these issues. It is also worth noting that the writer has owned several other car brands in the past, which may have influenced their expectations. Overall, it is important to approach this situation with a balanced perspective and consider all factors before making a final judgement.

I purchased this car last December and after two weeks of driving, I noticed a whistling noise coming from the dash. The noise only occurred when the AC was on and the car was in motion. It was a high-pitched noise that came and went in intervals of seconds, which was very annoying. I contacted the dealer, who was great and did everything in their power to fix the issue. It took three attempts to identify the problem, but finally, they heard it. To cut a long story short, my car was out of commission for 60 days, 30 of which were consecutive. The dealer replaced the expansion valve and evaporator, performed a recovery/vacuum/charge of the system, and even replaced the Bluetooth as it was not working. After several phone calls and sending letters, the issue was finally resolved.

The TSX makes a great first impression during the test drive. However, after driving it for a month or two, some rattles and squeaks may develop and the precise handling may lose alignment. Additionally, the fuel economy may not meet advertised standards, even under optimal conditions. The seats may be narrow and uncomfortable for some, and there is no side-body protective molding. While the car has some fancy features, some of them are poorly implemented, such as the power seats without position memory and the lack of a 'mute' button for the stereo.
