The Acura ILX is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda under the Acura brand, based on the ninth-generation Civic sedan. The ILX replaced the Canadian market exclusive Acura CSX. The gasoline-electric hybrid version was Acura's first.

Overview

The concept version was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the production version was presented in the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The ILX introduces a new design that Acura calls "aero-fused dynamics". Mass production commenced on April 23 at Honda's assembly facility in Greensburg, Indiana and U.S. sales began on May 22.

The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam. Compared to the Civic, the ILX uses Acura's "Amplitude Reactive" dampers and a larger more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality characteristics.

Options are grouped into Premium and Technology packages and include leather upholstery, 17" alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps. Both option packages include a multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes.

For the 2014 model year the ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-angle backup camera and audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation.

For the 2015 model year, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued due to slow sales. Through May of 2014, only 2,660 Hybrid units were sold since its introduction.

THE NEXT DAY, THE CONTACT WENT TO HER PRIMARY DOCTOR WHERE AN X-RAY DISCOVERED A BULGING DISC IN HER BACK AND BRUISES TO HER LEFT HIP AND LEFT SHOULDER. ACURA OF ORANGE PARK (7200 BLANDING BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32244) AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND NEITHER OFFERED ANY ASSISTANCE FOR THE MATTER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. While the reviewer has had some negative experiences with the car, it is important to note that everyone's experience is different. It is always a good idea to test drive a car before purchasing it to ensure that it meets your needs and expectations.I called the company regarding my issue, but unfortunately, they have not taken any steps to rectify the situation or offer me a more suitable car for my needs. It is disappointing to receive such a lacklustre response. It is my hope that the company will take my concerns seriously and work with me to find a satisfactory solution.     I purchased this car because it reminded me of my '07 Civic Si after test driving it, which I had to sell to go back to school. However, after spending a couple of months in it, I realized that any refinement I perceived was a false assumption based on the Acura badge. Let's start with the positives: The engine is great; it's a rev-happy Honda engine with an okay noise and feels quick enough. It's certainly not underpowered, although it can feel like it's working a little hard sometimes at 80mph and above. The transmission is pretty good too, but it's an automatic. This car would benefit from a manual transmission. Finally, it has the right balance between ride comfort and feel for the road. Now, onto the negatives: everything else. The worst is the driver's seat. The lumbar support is not adjustable. If you don't like to crank lumbar up to 11, you're not going to be comfortable. The upper part of the seat is even worse. There is absolutely no support for the shoulders, and consequently, zero lateral support. If you make a left-hand turn at more than 5 mph, you're going to fall into the passenger seat. And somehow my feet even seem to get lifted off the floor when making turns at a reasonable speed, giving an odd weightless feeling that leaves me grasping for something to brace myself on. This makes driving rather difficult. So, you can forget about any spirited driving on twisty mountain roads. Then there’s the fact that in the best position I’ve found, my head is about half an inch from the ceiling, which creates more than a few visibility problems. The rest of the interior just feels cheap, like it was made by Fisher Price. I had been driving a mid-level Ford Fiesta. I assumed that even the cheapest Acura would be a huge upgrade in quality. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Here are the things that were better in the 3-year older and $12,000 cheaper Ford: Steering/handling; leather wrap on the steering wheel; stereo (the stereo in the ILX is garbage); phone call quality.The phone controls and infotainment system could be more user-friendly, and the interior materials don't quite match up to luxury standards. Additionally, the trunk lid feels a bit cheap and lightweight. However, if you prioritize driving dynamics over these features, the ILK is definitely worth considering. It's important to note that the driver's seat may be an issue for some, and there is no proper 6-speed manual option. That being said, there are other cars in this price range that are worth exploring, such as the GTI, WRX, and even the Civic Si.

However, I must say that I never had any issues with the car's reliability, which is a big plus.

    I was excited to test drive this car because I really liked the styling and have owned two Acura TL's in the past. As a long-time Honda owner, I wanted to see what the ILX had to offer. While the cockpit was nice, I was disappointed to find that there was no lumbar support or adjustment, which made it uncomfortable for me due to my back issues. Additionally, the storage in the car was lacking compared to other cars I've seen. The console compartment was small and the door storage could barely fit a tennis ball. My main complaint, however, is with the CVT transmission. In my experience, it takes the fun out of driving and makes me feel like I'm a passenger in a very expensive lawn mower or sewing machine. While it's effective for fuel efficiency, it's not enjoyable to drive. Unfortunately, this made it clear to me that the ILX wasn't the car for me. The 8-speed transmission only made things worse. Overall, the car has great styling and will likely last for hundreds of thousands of miles, like all Japanese cars. However, I want to actually enjoy the driving experience, which is why I think the Civic is a superior car to the ILX and less expensive. I'll be going back to Honda or maybe even Subaru.

My husband and son-in-law, who are tall, fit fine with no complaints. It's a great looker, and I love this car. While I'm not too crazy about the Navi, I just use my iPhone. For me, the rest of the great pros override this one feature.

    I believe that the Acura ILX 2016 is a great car, despite some minor issues that have been highlighted in reviews. I recently purchased a used one with only 17K miles and it feels like a brand new car. The car looks great, is fast, luxurious, and gets great gas mileage. The Sport mode allows the driver to use paddles and it has excellent race car performance and handling. Although the car has some narrow views due to its streamlined design, it is still a great car overall. I am very happy with the premium leather interior and the 201 HP engine with 8 speed dual clutch makes this car much better than previous versions. Overall, I think this is a great car and I am very pleased with my purchase.

    I'm so glad to hear that your 2016 ILX has been flawless, just like your previous Hondas! While it may not have the same driving experience as a BMW or Audi, it handles very well and has a comfortable ride, except on rough pavement. The tech gadgets are amazing and the sound system is great. I'm impressed by the gas mileage, with over 40 mpg on the highway and an average of 36 in mixed driving. Even in the winter, it still gets a respectable 31 mpg on a tank of gas. It's great to know that you can use regular gas without any impact on performance.

    In October 2018, I bought a previously leased 2016 Acura ILX with over 23,000 miles on it. I absolutely love everything about it, except for the road and engine noise which can be a bit too pronounced.
