Acura Ilx problems

The Acura ILX is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda under the Acura brand, based on the ninth-generation Civic sedan. The ILX replaced the Canadian market exclusive Acura CSX. The gasoline-electric hybrid version was Acura's first.

Overview

The concept version was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the production version was presented in the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The ILX introduces a new design that Acura calls "aero-fused dynamics". Mass production commenced on April 23 at Honda's assembly facility in Greensburg, Indiana and U.S. sales began on May 22.

The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam. Compared to the Civic, the ILX uses Acura's "Amplitude Reactive" dampers and a larger more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality characteristics.

Options are grouped into Premium and Technology packages and include leather upholstery, 17" alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps. Both option packages include a multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes.

For the 2014 model year the ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-angle backup camera and audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation.

For the 2015 model year, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued due to slow sales. Through May of 2014, only 2,660 Hybrid units were sold since its introduction.

  • Date Complaint: 2024-10-14
  • VIN: 19UDE2F74KA
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the safety recall (NHTSA Recall No. 21V-215) for the fuel pump on my 2019 Acura ILX, VIN [XXX] . While I appreciate that American Honda has issued this recall, I am deeply troubled by the lack of available replacement parts and the company's decision to prioritize repairs only for vehicles currently experiencing symptoms. This approach fails to adequately address the safety risks for all affected vehicles and owners. The recall notice clearly states that the defective fuel pump impeller can deform over time, potentially causing the engine to stall while driving and increasing the risk of a crash. By delaying repairs for vehicles not yet exhibiting symptoms, American Honda is placing owners like myself at unnecessary risk of experiencing a dangerous malfunction while operating our vehicles. I have contacted several Acura dealerships, all of which have confirmed they have limited or no parts available to complete this critical safety repair. This situation is unacceptable given the serious nature of the defect and the potential consequences of a fuel pump failure. I urge American Honda to take immediate action to: 1.Accelerate production and distribution of replacement fuel pump modules to all authorized Acura dealers. 2.Offer loaner vehicles or alternative transportation to all affected owners until repairs can be completed. 3.Provide a firm timeline for when all affected vehicles will be able to receive the recall repair. 4.Consider expanding reimbursement eligibility to cover preventative repairs owners may pursue given the delays. American Honda has a responsibility to promptly remedy this safety defect for all affected vehicles, not just those currently exhibiting symptoms. Failure to do so in a timely manner may expose the company to increased liability and potential legal action. Latest negative Acura Ilx car reviews

  1. Jovan Waters 2025-05-08

    Vehicle year: 2015

The vehicle may not have met the expectations of some customers due to its economy car classification. However, Acura has made significant improvements to the Civic model, including a great dash, engine and suspension tuning. Despite some concerns about the quality of certain materials and the driver's view, the car's performance is still noteworthy. While the stereo system may not deliver premium sound, the vehicle as a whole is a solid choice for those in the market for an economy car.

  3. Carey Jakubowski 2025-04-27

    Vehicle year: 2016

I purchased my car back in April of 2015. Although I had a minor issue with squeaky front brakes, which is a factory defect that Acura is aware of, I still believe it's a great car. Acura did not replace my brakes when I brought it in, but I understand they have their reasons. I was a bit disappointed, but I still think Acura is a great brand. I also noticed a few other things that could have been better, such as the rough ride over uneven pavement and potholes, the lack of a 40/60 rear fold, and the steering being a little numb. Additionally, there isn't too much headroom for tall drivers. However, for the price of $27k, you get a compact car that can go from 0-60 in less than 7 seconds, great fuel economy, decent handling, a sunroof, keyless entry, a dual clutch transmission, full LED headlights, adaptive cruise, a crush prevention system, auto dual climate, heated seats and mirrors, a back-up camera, and of course, the Acura badge. Overall, I think it's an enormous value and a great car for those who are looking for a compact car.

  4. Madyson Rempel 2025-04-19

    Vehicle year: 2020

We've owned three other Acuras, all from the TL family -- an '03, '07, and a 2016 TLX. This time around, we decided to downsize to the ILX, but unfortunately, we regret that decision. We chose Acura after comparing it to the Honda Civic, which wasn't as nice and had a much inferior engine-transmission package. However, the 2019 ILX, while nice, isn't as comfortable as the TLX. The memory seats don't remember me very well, and the seat heaters only have two settings - on or off. The ILX drives pretty well and can even feel a little sporty if you keep the revs up. Our biggest complaint is the size of the gas tank. It's barely over 10 gallons, whereas the TLX had 17+. With the TLX, my wife only had to fill up once every 6 weeks, but with the ILX, she barely makes it to three.

  5. Stanley Welch 2025-04-18

    Vehicle year: 2020

I've had the car for two weeks now and overall, I think it looks great. The engine has plenty of pep and the steering is effortless, although the road feel is a bit distant. On the plus side, the LED lights are bright and it has many safety collision warning features. However, I must say that the build quality is not up to par. The hood uses a metal rod for support and there is no shock/stay hood lift. Additionally, the floor mats are of very poor quality - even Walmart's cheapies have rubber backing. What's more, there's no spare tire! Instead, they give you a small air compressor and no jack or lug wrench, but it does have wheel locks. So, if you experience a sidewall blowout or a flat with a hole bigger than a finish nail, make sure you have someone who can bring you a new tire. Alternatively, you can remove the foam parts holder where the spare goes and buy a temporary spare and scissor w/lug wrench and put it in its place. By the way, I'm the original owner of a 2003 CL-S 6cyl v-tech 6spd manual, which is a much sounder and more exhilarating car to drive, and I'm keeping it for fun.

You've got yourself an excellent car there! It boasts top-notch performance and looks that are sure to turn heads. What's more, even with the fully upgraded packages, it's still cheaper than other entry-level luxury car base models with no upgrades (such as Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, and Audi). It's a great entry-level luxury car that offers fantastic value for the price. The only downside is that the infotainment system is a bit outdated and could look better, but that's just a minor issue.

I recently traded my 2016 RDX Base for the 2016 ILX Premium. While I'm losing the utility and AWD of the RDX, I'm gaining more features, a slightly lower payment, better gas mileage, and a car that's easier to park. The 2016 ILX is a huge improvement in every category compared to the 1st gen. The car looks much better with a more pronounced front end and a less frumpy tail end. The amount of tech and features you get are way up from the 1st gen, and the performance of the 2.4 direct injection 8 speed DCT is awesome. While the performance is much improved, the car might be a tad racer boyish for some with its loud exhaust for those who prefer quiet luxury. The ILX isn't as luxurious and doesn't perform as well as the Lexus IS 200T, BMW 320i, Mercedes CLA250, or Audi A3, but it costs thousands less (up to $10,000 less). I negotiated my premium edition with an MSRP of $30k to $26,260, and the highest trim Tech with A-Spec only adds up to $35k. For me, the ILX has just the right amount of luxury, tech, and value that I can ignore not having AWD, real wood accents, or a German branding. However, I'm not a huge fan of the back seats being a 1 piece fold down and not a 60/40 split, nor am I a fan of the car requiring premium fuel and the fact that AcuraLink only supports iOS. Also, while Acura would love to capture a young audience, the base and base with AcuraWatch are pointless because the Civic Touring features and price beat those models. Acura should focus on selling the Premium and Tech Versions, which are still reasonably priced at $30k-35k MSRP. The Premium with Blind Spot, cross traffic alert, real Milano leather, and the two-tier screen system are worth every penny.

In my opinion, for about the same price, you can get an Acura ILX which is based on the tried and true 9th Generation Civic. This model is known for its reliability, unlike the current 10th Generation Civic which has received mixed reviews. The Acura ILX also comes with a VTEC engine, which is more reliable than the Earth Dreams engine found in the Civic, and a dual-clutch transmission which is less expensive to repair than the CVT transmission. The Acura ILX also has a refined and stylish design that is less polarizing than the Civic. In summary, the Acura ILX offers the reliability of a Honda Civic Si without the reported problematic components, and comes with a better warranty. It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing!

When I first looked at this car, it seemed pretty average on paper. The acceleration, handling, and mpg were all acceptable, but it didn't really stand out. However, I decided to take a test drive because manual transmission cars are becoming harder to find and they were offering big discounts. After the test drive, I realized that this car was something special. The more I drive it, the more I like it. I'm happy to say that this car has a much higher fun factor than I originally expected. The clutch and transmission are just a pure joy to use. It's definitely the nicest manual transmission I've ever had, including multiple VWs, a Saab, and multiple Subarus. The engine also loves to rev and has a wonderful sound for a 4 cyl. It's not a track monster, but for real road driving, I can't think of a car that was more fun (even more than my WRX) to drive around without doing illegal speeds. Lastly, I find that the EPA gas mileage is easily exceeded without trying. If I had to criticize anything, it would be the road noise. For a 'premium' badge, I would have expected it to be quieter. However, if you are okay with the normal noise levels found in Hondas/Acuras, this is a great choice for a little sporty car!

I've always admired this car whenever I saw it driving or parked, so I decided to visit the dealer and take it for a test drive. I was thoroughly impressed with its acceleration, steering feel, handling, and overall ride quality. Although the interior isn't luxurious, it has a sporty and upscale aura to it. The exterior lines and design also look quite sporty. I ended up leasing it for much less than the competition, including the Audi A3, BMW 3 series, Mercedes Benz CLA, Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, and others. Overall, it's a fun car to drive, and I feel like it offers great value in the crowded and highly competitive entry-level compact sedan category. The base model offers everything I wanted, including a peppy 2.4/201 HP engine (more than some of the more expensive competitors), a moonroof, heated leatherette seats, power driver's seats, heated mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, steering wheel controls for Bluetooth, audio, cruise, and more. If you want more options like navigation, safety features, and various other upgrades, the payment rises accordingly, but it's still less than every other competitor. I also test drove mainstream compact sedans such as the Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, and Mazda 3, all of which drove terrifically as well, but the prices were too close to the more powerful Acura ILX.
