Acura Ilx problems

The Acura ILX is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda under the Acura brand, based on the ninth-generation Civic sedan. The ILX replaced the Canadian market exclusive Acura CSX. The gasoline-electric hybrid version was Acura's first.
Overview
The concept version was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the production version was presented in the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The ILX introduces a new design that Acura calls "aero-fused dynamics". Mass production commenced on April 23 at Honda's assembly facility in Greensburg, Indiana and U.S. sales began on May 22.
The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam. Compared to the Civic, the ILX uses Acura's "Amplitude Reactive" dampers and a larger more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality characteristics.
Options are grouped into Premium and Technology packages and include leather upholstery, 17" alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps. Both option packages include a multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes.
For the 2014 model year the ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-angle backup camera and audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation.
For the 2015 model year, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued due to slow sales. Through May of 2014, only 2,660 Hybrid units were sold since its introduction.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-14
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-14
- VIN: 19UDE2F74KA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the safety recall (NHTSA Recall No. 21V-215) for the fuel pump on my 2019 Acura ILX, VIN [XXX] . While I appreciate that American Honda has issued this recall, I am deeply troubled by the lack of available replacement parts and the company's decision to prioritize repairs only for vehicles currently experiencing symptoms. This approach fails to adequately address the safety risks for all affected vehicles and owners. The recall notice clearly states that the defective fuel pump impeller can deform over time, potentially causing the engine to stall while driving and increasing the risk of a crash. By delaying repairs for vehicles not yet exhibiting symptoms, American Honda is placing owners like myself at unnecessary risk of experiencing a dangerous malfunction while operating our vehicles. I have contacted several Acura dealerships, all of which have confirmed they have limited or no parts available to complete this critical safety repair. This situation is unacceptable given the serious nature of the defect and the potential consequences of a fuel pump failure. I urge American Honda to take immediate action to: 1.Accelerate production and distribution of replacement fuel pump modules to all authorized Acura dealers. 2.Offer loaner vehicles or alternative transportation to all affected owners until repairs can be completed. 3.Provide a firm timeline for when all affected vehicles will be able to receive the recall repair. 4.Consider expanding reimbursement eligibility to cover preventative repairs owners may pursue given the delays. American Honda has a responsibility to promptly remedy this safety defect for all affected vehicles, not just those currently exhibiting symptoms. Failure to do so in a timely manner may expose the company to increased liability and potential legal action. Vehicle year: 2015
Hi there! I was on the lookout for a good commuter car with a manual transmission that I could use for the next 15 years. As a proud owner of 3 Hondas, I have seen first-hand how their powertrains hold up, especially since I maintain them myself. I was initially interested in the '16 Civic LX 6MT or the '16 Accord Sport 6MT. Personally, I like the new Civic, but at the time, only the LX had the 6MT available. I didn't want to spend ~$19 grand on the base model, which only had a 4-speaker stereo and wheel covers. I know I was being too harsh on the LX, especially since I have been spoiled with the features I've come to enjoy in my 2007 Accord EX-L Sdn V6 6MT. After giving it some thought, I began to seriously consider the Accord Sport. It is a gorgeous car on the outside, but I found that I would have to give up many features, such as a quality stereo, sunroof, and leather on the inside. To every man his taste, right? That's when I noticed the ILX. I would never consider buying one brand new for $30k+, but I found a clean white one at ~$21k with only 10,000 miles and in immaculate shape. It became an excellent choice! The new Accord Sport is pushing ~$27k, but I got so many more features with the used ILX. I have thoroughly enjoyed this car, and even with the 6MT coming available in the EX-T Civic, I find that I'm still enjoying my choice without any regrets. (I would really be sad if a Leather/Manual/Turbo Civic option had popped up). Even with the turbo manual option, the Apple CarPlay is great, but it still lacks some of the features that the ILX has. Some features that I have really enjoyed are the sound system - there is a sub in the back, and the higher wattage is very noticeable, much better sound and intensity than my fully loaded 2007 Accord EX-L. The HIDs are excellent too. I purchased the car in OR and drove it to CA during a rainstorm at night to outrun a snowstorm. Thanks for reading! The headlights on this car are really impressive. During my drive, I was able to see both sides of the road, which made me feel much safer, especially since I was worried about deer. The handling is also very light and precise, which made driving through the mountains a breeze. I was looking for a car with a good powertrain for my commute, and this car definitely delivers. The manual transmission is the best I've ever driven, and the engine note never gets old. Even starting the engine reminds you of its capabilities with that aggressive engine note. Plus, the fuel economy has been pleasantly surprising. I commonly get around 40 mpg on my 40-mile commute, which includes hills and plenty of stop-and-go traffic. On a longer drive to UT, I saw an overall 34.5 MPG on the computer. I've only put premium fuel in it, and honestly, I don't mind the extra dollar or two at each fill-up. Even with newer choices on the market, like the Civic Turbo manual and the Mazda 3, I still went with the ILX and couldn't be happier with my choice. The keyless entry and push-button start are also excellent features that I've come to truly enjoy. If you're looking for a good option, the ILX is a solid choice if you can find a good one off lease. This car is a tidy package for the long run. Also, isn't it brilliant how the oil filter is conveniently located on the bottom of the engine, directly behind the oil drain plug? It's so much better than having oil spill all over the back of the engine like on the Honda F series engine or spilling all over the subframe on the J series.

Vehicle year: 2015
In April 2015, we needed to buy another car. At first, I considered a BMW 335 and an Infiniti G37 coupe, both of which I loved as a man. However, I knew my wife wanted a car with good gas mileage, navigation, a CD player, heated seats, and more. Eventually, I chose the ILX because it was below book value at the time, fully loaded, and although a hybrid, it looked sporty compared to other hybrids on the market. I also liked the option of shutting off the hybrid mode, which gives the car more power when getting into traffic in the DFW area. On average, with city and highway driving, we get 39.3 MPG with the car not in hybrid mode. We have kept up with oil changes, etc., and I don't know if there is a correlation or not, but the car does get better MPG within the first 20% of a new oil change. The front seats are comfortable, especially considering that the basis for this car is the Honda Civic. The only flaws I see are limited storage and no legroom for an adult in the back seats. However, the interior dash layout is great, the hands-free system is one of the best I have used, and although it takes premium gas, I have never paid more than $24.00 to fill it, and my wife can drive 4-6 weeks before filling. It also looks like a higher-priced car. We will always be an Acura fan due to this car.

I've been driving Acura TL and TLX models for the past 13 years and have enjoyed most of their features. Despite the average ratings for the ILX, I decided to take it for a test drive and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. Overall, I'm very pleased with its performance, handling, and style. However, there are a few minor issues such as the awkwardly placed USB port, poor Bluetooth voice quality, and subpar screen graphics. Additionally, if you're over six feet tall, you may need to lower your seat to avoid hitting your head on the roof.

Vehicle year: 2015
Before purchasing this car, I had a Mazda RX-8 which I had owned for 9 years. I loved the car and wasn't ready to give it up, but the cost of repairs, the difficulty in repairing the car, and the nickel and diming from Mazda because of the rotary engine was taking its toll. It finally came time for me to consider trading the car in for something more reliable. I had considered Audi and BMW, but the biggest 'want' on my car wish list was that the vehicle had to be easy to repair and not cost an arm and a leg each time I took it in. I just wanted something that had the sleekness and handling of my RX-8 but with the engine of a Honda. So what better than an Acura? While the ILX does not handle as well as the RX-8 (I am a rather aggressive driver and enjoyed the manual transmission on the Mazda), the ILX is pretty decent in acceleration, handles corners well (I don't have to worry about fish tailing), and has an overall feeling of 'gliding' that I really enjoy. I also love the interior. Some of the reviews on the ILX will say the interior is not as nice as the Audi A3 or the BMW 3 series, but I beg to differ. The interior is sleek and comfortable, and the user interface on the touchscreen is fairly easy to use. The one complaint I do have is that the navigation app is only compatible with iPhone, and as I am a Galaxy user, it is useless to me. Also, one thing to note with this car that salespeople at the dealership may argue with, is that this car performs WAY better on premium gasoline. When I purchased the car, the salesperson said the car takes regular gas. I put regular in the car and experienced lagging at acceleration, rough idling, and I could feel the car stumbling when I would push down on the gas. When I mentioned the issue to the seller, he claimed it was impossible. However, after refuelling with premium, the car began to glide smoothly again and I had no trouble with acceleration. It's important to use your own judgement and not always rely on the seller's advice. The person who sold me the car knew very little about it and kept repeating that 'it's a beautiful car, it sells itself'. Overall, I'm very happy with my decision not to go with Audi or BMW. I'm confident that when the car needs servicing, I won't be left with an empty wallet. It was a great transition from the RX-8.

I recently purchased this car to replace my 2001 Integra. While it is different from my previous car, which had a unique handling experience that is hard to come by these days, I still find this car to be a lot of fun to drive. It has a lot of horsepower for its size and handles extremely well. Even though it has electric steering, which I'm not a fan of, the feedback is good. This is my first automatic car in many decades of driving, but I have to say, I'm impressed. I recommend putting it in sport mode and hitting some winding roads - you won't regret it! It's been 7 months since I bought it and I haven't had a single problem with the vehicle. It handles well in the snow and on wet pavement, and is nimble and quick on dry pavement. I usually drive in comfort mode for my daily commute and it responds very well when I need to merge into traffic. While Consumer Reports rated the ride as poor, I personally think it's perfect for a sport sedan. I've hit a few very bad potholes with no serious side effects. The only minor complaints I have are that the armrests are too low and there is no dome light. Otherwise, it's an excellent car. Three years on, and it's still great. I've only needed to do oil changes and inspections so far, and it gets 32 mpg in mixed highway and city driving. I love it!

If you are considering purchasing an Acura ILX, I urge you to read my review before making a decision. Since purchasing my brand new Acura ILX 2020 in July 2020, I have visited the dealership 10 times due to a loud and permanent clunking noise coming from the front side of the vehicle, which can be felt in the floor when tapping the gas while cruising, and hesitation while driving. Despite the dealership's attempts to resolve the issue by replacing the right axle and intermediate shaft, the noise persisted. When seeking help from other dealerships, I received the same answer, except for one mechanic at Acura of Peabody who suggested that the noise could be due to a transmission problem and that a transmission replacement may be required. However, the dealership ultimately concluded that the car was acting normally. I have evidence of the mechanic mentioning the transmission defect, but unfortunately, the recording of that particular piece was missing. Despite this setback, I remained persistent and made an appointment with an engineer at Prime Acura. I am confident that with their expertise, we will be able to resolve this issue once and for all. When I requested a joint test drive with the dealership, they informed me that it was not possible due to COVID-19. Despite mechanics being allowed to participate in joint test drives, engineers were not. After realizing that Prime Acura was not willing to assist me, I sought the help of independent licensed mechanics who confirmed the issue with my car. They identified hesitation during acceleration and a thumping noise during up shifts, indicating an internal transmission or TCM programming issue. This was the same issue that the Acura mechanic had identified before changing their mind. In February, my brand new car's battery died. The mechanic replaced it, but three weeks later, I discovered that my camera was not recording in parking mode, which was not an issue before the battery replacement. When I asked Prime Acura what battery they had installed, they claimed that the power capacity of the battery was too small for the camera's weight. However, they could not explain why this had not been an issue with my old battery. After researching the problem, I found several articles stating that the camera could not damage the battery. I shared this information with the Prime Acura representative, but instead of addressing my concerns, they responded rudely and refused to continue the conversation. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service provided by Prime Acura. They did not fix my problem, nor did they show any sympathy or respect towards me as a client. Therefore, I cannot recommend purchasing an Acura ILX from them. This purchase has been a source of great frustration and disappointment. The quality of the car did not meet the advertised standards and the warranty was not helpful. Despite being marketed as a premium product, it did not live up to expectations. These issues have been addressed and resolved with confidence and assertiveness.

I have owned two previous Acura's and loved them. However, I had a negative experience with this particular vehicle. Unfortunately, I encountered 18 issues with it, and despite reaching out to the dealership and Acura customer service, I was unable to receive the assistance I needed. As a loyal customer, I was disappointed with the treatment I received. In the end, I decided to trade it in for a Lexus. Thank you for considering my experience.

I used to be a proud owner of the 2004 Acura TL and I absolutely loved that car. Recently, I purchased another Acura with the hope that it would bring me the same level of happiness. Unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with the transmission. It makes a banging noise and feels like it's lunging forward when I let off the gas. I was told that this is normal and that I was confusing the car when I drove it. Despite this, I find the ride to be quite hard and noisy. It seems like they cut corners on this car and it shows, especially considering the high price tag. I am disappointed with my experience and have decided not to purchase another Acura in the future.

I purchased my car back in April of 2015. Although I had a minor issue with squeaky front brakes, which is a factory defect that Acura is aware of, I still believe it's a great car. Acura did not replace my brakes when I brought it in, but I understand they have their reasons. I was a bit disappointed, but I still think Acura is a great brand. I also noticed a few other things that could have been better, such as the rough ride over uneven pavement and potholes, the lack of a 40/60 rear fold, and the steering being a little numb. Additionally, there isn't too much headroom for tall drivers. However, for the price of $27k, you get a compact car that can go from 0-60 in less than 7 seconds, great fuel economy, decent handling, a sunroof, keyless entry, a dual clutch transmission, full LED headlights, adaptive cruise, a crush prevention system, auto dual climate, heated seats and mirrors, a back-up camera, and of course, the Acura badge. Overall, I think it's an enormous value and a great car for those who are looking for a compact car.

The Acura ILX is a beautiful car, but unfortunately the driving experience is not as smooth as one would hope. It tends to shake when driven over 60 mph, which can be quite uncomfortable. Therefore, I would not recommend buying this car if you frequently drive on highways.
