Acura Ilx problems

The Acura ILX is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda under the Acura brand, based on the ninth-generation Civic sedan. The ILX replaced the Canadian market exclusive Acura CSX. The gasoline-electric hybrid version was Acura's first.
Overview
The concept version was unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show, the production version was presented in the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The ILX introduces a new design that Acura calls "aero-fused dynamics". Mass production commenced on April 23 at Honda's assembly facility in Greensburg, Indiana and U.S. sales began on May 22.
The ILX's body in white uses 59% high strength steel ranging from 440-980 MPa yield strength grades, aluminum is used for the hood and front bumper beam. Compared to the Civic, the ILX uses Acura's "Amplitude Reactive" dampers and a larger more rigid steering shaft for improved handling and ride quality characteristics.
Options are grouped into Premium and Technology packages and include leather upholstery, 17" alloy wheels, navigation system, premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, and high intensity discharge headlamps. Both option packages include a multi-view rear backup camera with regular, wide-angle, and top-down modes.
For the 2014 model year the ILX came standard with 17-inch wheels, leather interior, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, tri-angle backup camera and audio subwoofer with Active Noise Cancellation.
For the 2015 model year, the ILX Hybrid was discontinued due to slow sales. Through May of 2014, only 2,660 Hybrid units were sold since its introduction.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-14
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-14
- VIN: 19UDE2F74KA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the safety recall (NHTSA Recall No. 21V-215) for the fuel pump on my 2019 Acura ILX, VIN [XXX] . While I appreciate that American Honda has issued this recall, I am deeply troubled by the lack of available replacement parts and the company's decision to prioritize repairs only for vehicles currently experiencing symptoms. This approach fails to adequately address the safety risks for all affected vehicles and owners. The recall notice clearly states that the defective fuel pump impeller can deform over time, potentially causing the engine to stall while driving and increasing the risk of a crash. By delaying repairs for vehicles not yet exhibiting symptoms, American Honda is placing owners like myself at unnecessary risk of experiencing a dangerous malfunction while operating our vehicles. I have contacted several Acura dealerships, all of which have confirmed they have limited or no parts available to complete this critical safety repair. This situation is unacceptable given the serious nature of the defect and the potential consequences of a fuel pump failure. I urge American Honda to take immediate action to: 1.Accelerate production and distribution of replacement fuel pump modules to all authorized Acura dealers. 2.Offer loaner vehicles or alternative transportation to all affected owners until repairs can be completed. 3.Provide a firm timeline for when all affected vehicles will be able to receive the recall repair. 4.Consider expanding reimbursement eligibility to cover preventative repairs owners may pursue given the delays. American Honda has a responsibility to promptly remedy this safety defect for all affected vehicles, not just those currently exhibiting symptoms. Failure to do so in a timely manner may expose the company to increased liability and potential legal action. I recently purchased this car to replace my 2001 Integra. While it is different from my previous car, which had a unique handling experience that is hard to come by these days, I still find this car to be a lot of fun to drive. It has a lot of horsepower for its size and handles extremely well. Even though it has electric steering, which I'm not a fan of, it still provides good feedback. This is my first automatic car in many decades of driving, but I have to say, I'm impressed. I recommend putting it in sport mode and taking it for a spin on some winding roads - you won't regret it! It's been 7 months since I bought it and I haven't had a single problem with the vehicle. It handles well in the snow and on wet pavement, and is nimble and quick on dry pavement. I usually drive in comfort mode for my daily commute and it responds very well when I need to merge into traffic. While Consumer Reports rated the ride as poor, I personally think it's perfect for a sport sedan. I've hit a few very bad potholes with no serious side effects. The only minor complaints I have are that the armrests are too low and there is no dome light. Otherwise, it's an excellent car. Three years on, it's still going strong with only oil changes and inspections so far. It gets 32 mpg in mixed highway and city driving. I absolutely love it!

I got the ILX about 3 weeks ago and so far, I haven't had any problems with it. It's fast, corners nicely, and is good on gas. Personally, I like it better than the A3, although I did feel a bit cramped inside. In terms of handling, I think it's on par with the IS250. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and these are just my own views as a regular guy.

I really love this sporty car! It handles and rides amazingly well. My clients and friends have complimented it, saying it's even better than their BMWs and Mercedes, especially considering the great gas mileage and price. It's a great bang for your buck if you spend a lot of time in your car like I do. This car zips around traffic and cruises at 80mph for hours without any issues. The sport mode is terrific on California mountain highways and is awesome if you want to race up a freeway against a German rival. I highly recommend getting the Premium ASpec Package, it's worth every penny. This is actually my 3rd Acura. My 2004 TSX is still on the road at 375K miles and my last 2016 ILX is still going strong with a new owner and over 100K miles. Acuras are great buys and last forever without the expensive repair bills of BMW and Mercedes.

I am quite familiar with the 2013 ILX and it was a great disappointment. The refreshed 2016 ILX is what we expected in 2013, but instead got an expensive Honda Civic. The 2016 feels much more premium and is quieter on the road. The suspension feels tighter and more solid. The exterior refresh is quite nice; it gives it a sportier look, but still looks like a luxury vehicle. The greatest attribute of this car is the 8 speed duel clutch transmission, that is paired with the 2.4L engine. The K24 is already a seasoned and beloved motor and this new 8 speed DCT is incredible. The shifts are smooth, quick, and the rev-match down shifting is addicting. This truly is the best compromise between an automatic and manual transmission. This is my sister's car, which already has 47,000 miles on it and no problems have occurred. That is no surprise, as my dad has an 09 TSX with 95k(never using the required premium gas) and never a repair once. My father is now eyeing to replace his TSX with the ILX A-Spec and I too, will now be in the market for one, as well.

We've owned three other Acuras, all from the TL family -- an '03, '07, and a 2016 TLX. This time around, we decided to downsize to the ILX, but unfortunately, we regret that decision. We chose Acura after comparing it to the Honda Civic, which wasn't as nice and had a much inferior engine-transmission package. However, the 2019 ILX, while nice, isn't as comfortable as the TLX. The memory seats don't remember me very well, and the seat heaters only have two settings - on or off. The ILX drives pretty well and can even feel a little sporty if you keep the revs up. Our biggest complaint is the size of the gas tank. It's barely over 10 gallons, whereas the TLX had 17+. With the TLX, my wife only had to fill up once every 6 weeks, but with the ILX, she barely makes it to three.

I've had the car for two weeks now and overall, I think it looks great. The engine has plenty of pep and the steering is effortless, although the road feel is a bit distant. On the plus side, the LED lights are bright and it has many safety collision warning features. However, I must say that the build quality is not up to par. The hood uses a metal rod for support and there is no shock/stay hood lift. Additionally, the floor mats are of very poor quality - even Walmart's cheapies have rubber backing. What's more, there's no spare tire! Instead, they give you a small air compressor and no jack or lug wrench, but it does have wheel locks. So, if you experience a sidewall blowout or a flat with a hole bigger than a finish nail, make sure you have someone who can bring you a new tire. Alternatively, you can remove the foam parts holder where the spare goes and buy a temporary spare and scissor w/lug wrench and put it in its place. By the way, I'm the original owner of a 2003 CL-S 6cyl v-tech 6spd manual, which is a much sounder and more exhilarating car to drive, and I'm keeping it for fun.

I leased a Mazda3 premium plus and loved it. I was considering getting the new redesigned one, but had some negative feelings about the Mazda dealership experience. Against my better judgement, I looked at the Acura ILX. Let me just say that this car is inferior to the 3 in virtually every respect, and in some ways vastly inferior. However, there are some positives to the ILX. The headlights are the best I have ever seen, illuminating the road extremely well under any circumstances. The value is also great, as it is easily the cheapest

I recently leased a 2017 Acura ILX, which is my seventh Acura. I have always loved my previous Acuras, but unfortunately, I am not enjoying this one as much. The new 8 gear transmission with two clutches is too complex and does not offer the performance that Acura claims. The car struggles to find the right gear when accelerating, and it lacks power from 10mph to 40mph. My previous car, a 2014 Acura ILX, was perfect, and I should have kept it. The muffler is also quite noisy, which is not to my liking. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the car will improve over time.

If you are considering purchasing an Acura ILX, I urge you to read my review before making a decision. Since purchasing my brand new Acura ILX 2020 in July 2020, I have visited the dealership 10 times due to a loud and permanent clunking noise coming from the front side of the vehicle, which can be felt in the floor when tapping the gas while cruising, and hesitation while driving. Despite the dealership's attempts to resolve the issue by replacing the right axle and intermediate shaft, the noise persisted. When seeking help from other dealerships, I received the same answer, except for one mechanic at Acura of Peabody who suggested that the noise could be due to a transmission problem and that a transmission replacement may be required. However, the dealership ultimately concluded that the car was acting normally. I have evidence of the mechanic mentioning the transmission defect, but unfortunately, the recording was missing a crucial piece. Despite this setback, I remained persistent and made an appointment with an engineer at Prime Acura. I am confident that with their expertise, we will be able to resolve this issue once and for all. When I requested a joint test drive with the dealership, they informed me that it was not possible due to COVID-19. Despite mechanics being allowed to participate in joint test drives, engineers were not. After realizing that Prime Acura was not willing to assist me, I sought the help of independent licensed mechanics who confirmed the issue with my car. They identified hesitation during acceleration and a thumping noise during up shifts, indicating an internal transmission or TCM programming issue. This was the same issue that the Acura mechanic had identified before changing their mind. In February, my brand new car's battery died. The mechanic replaced it, but three weeks later, I discovered that my camera was not recording in parking mode, which was not an issue before the battery replacement. When I asked Prime Acura what battery they had installed, they claimed that the power capacity of the battery was too small for the camera's weight. However, they could not explain why this had not been an issue with my old battery. Despite my research indicating that the camera could not have caused the battery issue, the Prime Acura representative was unhelpful and rude in his response to my concerns. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service provided by Prime Acura. They did not fix my problem, nor did they show any sympathy or respect towards me as a client. Therefore, I cannot recommend purchasing an Acura ILX from them. This purchase has been a source of great frustration and disappointment. The quality of the car did not meet the advertised standards and the warranty was not helpful. Despite being marketed as a premium product, it did not live up to expectations. These issues have been addressed and resolved with confidence and assertiveness.
