Common 2017 Volvo V90cc problems
The Volvo V90CC 2017 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most significant issues is the potential for engine fires in cars fitted with a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Volvo recalled around 70,000 cars in the UK due to this problem. If you are considering a used Volvo V90CC 2017, it is crucial to check if the recall has been addressed.
Another issue is a software problem with the vehicle connectivity module (VCM), which sends location information to the emergency services after a collision. This problem affects cars constructed between 23 September 2016 and 30 October 2018. Any Volvo dealer should be able to perform a software update to fix the issue.
There have also been recalls for airbags that might not deploy correctly during a collision. The first recall is due to airbags that don't meet the required specification and were fitted to models produced between 24 March 2016 and 30 October 2018. The second is for the retaining bolt on the curtain airbag; it could break and reduce the level of protection the airbag can provide. This recall affects certain V90s built between 21 November 2016 and 1 March 2017.
Additionally, there have been reports of the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) control unit being incorrectly tightened to the car body. This issue affects 704 vehicles, and if your V90CC 2017 is one of them, the manufacturer will inspect and tighten the SRS control unit.
The Automatic Emergency Brake System, a function of the IntelliSafe system, may not always engage, increasing the risk of a collision. Affected vehicles must have new software downloaded, and this issue affects 56385 vehicles.
When it comes to reliability, the Volvo V90 is below average, albeit not atrociously so. In the 2023 What Car? Reliability Survey, it ranked 16th out of 24 cars in the executive car class, with a reliability score of 88.9%. Bodywork got the most flack from owners, with 8.5% of V90 owners in the survey seeing problems. Electrical faults and engine issues were also cited, with 6.8% of owners experiencing problems in each category.
Some owners have reported minor electronic and software glitches, which were typically resolved quickly by dealers. Despite these issues, the sentiment towards Volvo's dealership network is overwhelmingly positive, with staff members described as attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient. Issues, when they did occur, were handled promptly and professionally, often leaving owners impressed with the level of care and transparency provided.
In summary, while the Volvo V90CC 2017 has had some reported issues, many owners have found the car to be generally reliable. However, potential buyers should be aware of the recall for potential engine fires and ensure that any software updates have been performed. Additionally, issues with airbags and the SRS control unit should be checked. Despite these concerns, the Volvo V90CC 2017 has been praised for its build quality, robustness, and exceptional customer service.
