The Tesla Model S is a battery electric executive car with a liftback body style built by Tesla, Inc. since 2012. The Model S features a battery-powered dual-motor, all-wheel drive layout, although earlier versions featured a rear-motor and rear-wheel drive layout.

Development of the Model S began prior to 2007, under the codename "WhiteStar". The Model S was officially announced on June 30, 2008, and a prototype vehicle was unveiled in March 2009. The Model S debuted on June 22, 2012. A revised, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version, known as the 60D, debuted on October 9, 2014. The 60D was followed by the 70D, which made dual-motor and all-wheel drive the standard, followed by the 85D, P85D, and P90D. Along with these updates, Tesla offered the Autopilot driving assistance system. The first major design refresh came in April 2016 when the Model S was updated with a new front hood design. In October of the same year, hardware became standard that supports Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) capability. As part of the update, integrated standard cameras around the car were added. In February 2017 the Tesla Model S P100D debuted, which included a revised motor and was the first electric vehicle to have an EPA estimated range exceeding 300 miles (483 km). The second major design refresh, codenamed "Palladium", was introduced in June 2021, offering a new "Plaid" performance model, along with a revised interior, powertrain, and suspension.

The Model S became the first electric car to top the monthly new-car-sales ranking in any country, leading twice in Norway, in September and December 2013 and in Denmark in December 2015. Sales passed 250,000 units in September 2018. The Model S was the top-selling plug-in electric car worldwide in 2015 and 2016, although it was later surpassed by the Model 3. Upon its release, the Model S received positive reviews, with praise for its acceleration and range, although initial models received criticism for their high cost and braking issues.

Negative 2019 Tesla Model s car reviews

  1. Helmer Bernhard 2025-03-14

It seems that Musk's vision for self-driving vehicles is to have passengers rather than drivers. However, it's important to note that many of us still enjoy driving. While Teslas may not have certain features like heads up displays, ventilated and massaging seats, door pockets, interior bling, leather, customizing design options, and performance data recorders, they still offer a unique driving experience. It's worth noting that unlike competitors Jaguar and Audi, going off-road in a Tesla voids the warranty. While some may argue that Teslas lack the luxury of other high-end vehicles, they still offer a unique and innovative driving experience. It's true that satellite radio is not an option in the Model 3, which may be inconvenient for those who frequently drive in areas with no cellular service. However, Teslas are still a great option for those in California and beyond. We hope that future updates will address some of these concerns and continue to improve the Tesla driving experience.

  2. Roel Pfannerstill 2025-03-06

I've been a Tesla owner for almost a year now and unfortunately, I recently experienced a punctured rear tire due to an object on the road. I immediately contacted Tesla roadside for assistance and my car was transported to the service center. Although I called early to ensure a same-day return, I was disappointed to learn that there were no spare or inventory tires in stock, and no Tesla loaner cars available. As a result, I was left without reliable transportation for the day and had to cancel several important appointments with patients at different hospitals. While I love my Tesla, I was disappointed with the lack of support in this situation. I did contact management and am still waiting for a call back. Despite this experience, I remain a loyal Tesla owner and hope to see improvements in their customer service in the future. Although the car wash and vacuum job were not up to my standards, I am grateful to have my car back and running smoothly again.

  3. Carson Nienow 2025-01-10

Tesla is a great car with industry-changing features. Although it is not a full self-driving car, it is still much better than most cars out there. Having an electric car with no gas fill is fantastic. However, it is important to note that the advertised range may not be achievable unless you keep it under 35 mph and in 70-degree weather. While my sales process experience was not ideal, Tesla did provide me with some free perks to make up for it. The car I received was an older version with some features missing, such as satellite radio and a heated steering wheel. Despite some initial issues, I have been enjoying my Tesla. The service experience could be improved, but it is still a great car overall.

  4. Jabari Herman 2024-11-27

Although Tesla's customer support is currently limited to online resources, they offer a wealth of information and tools to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. If you need to schedule service or order parts, their website is a convenient and easy-to-use resource. While I did return my car within the 7 day 1000 mile time period due to lower than expected gas mileage, I found the return process to be straightforward. Although it can be difficult to reach someone by phone, Tesla's online resources are comprehensive and user-friendly.

  5. Guillermo Keeling 2024-11-04

Tesla has multiple supercharging stations, but unfortunately, some of them may not be functioning properly. This can cause inconvenience and delay in charging your car. It is recommended to check the availability of charging points before planning your trip. However, Tesla is constantly working to improve their charging infrastructure and provide a better experience for their customers.

Positive 2019 Tesla Model s car reviews

  1. Bennett Hoppe 2025-03-25

This is the greatest car I have ever desired and now own. It is simply outstanding with unbelievable acceleration. I drive an average of 70 miles per day and rarely drive further than 300 miles in one day. The battery power is 310 miles, making it the perfect choice for me and my household. The cargo space is fantastic, even better than I expected from the outside. Additionally, my car is a 7-seater, although no one over 5'9

  2. Mateo Dooley 2025-03-18

We had a Tesla Model S for two years and it only needed service once. Tesla came to our home in a rural area and promptly fixed it under warranty. We loved the car! It was fun to drive and a completely different world of driving from a gas car. Now we have a Tesla Model L and we REALLY love this car. It has blistering acceleration when needed, no gas/oil changes, and absolutely no problems with Tesla service or getting questions answered. The navigation is the best we have ever had - simply tell it where you want to go (take me to the bowling alley - drive me to the nearest Chic-fil-A, take me to Myrtle beach, etc.). On trips, the navigation guides you from one supercharger to another, gives you sufficient charge to get to the next one with reserve and sends you on your way (saving time). All superchargers we have ever visited have worked flawlessly. This car gets the equivalent of over 100 mpg so our fuel bill is roughly 1/4 what it would be in a gas car. The audio is great and on the highway, it really does drive itself. I fully agree with the previous poster - I am completely spoiled - could never go back to an ICE car.

  3. Cristopher Steuber 2025-03-18

The 75D Model S is not just a car, it's a movement, and Tesla has made it possible for all of us to be a part of the automotive transformation without making any sacrifices. This car has something for everyone - it's fast, clean, classy, high-tech, and it even drives itself! Although I haven't owned it for long enough to speak to its reliability, so far, so good. The customer service at the Springfield NJ location has been excellent. While the Model S may be pricey (even with incentives applied), I have never experienced buyer's remorse. In fact, every time I drive this car, I am amazed by how much technology is at my fingertips. Autopilot is by far my favorite feature, and the ability of the car to park itself into the garage is a major convenience, especially in my tight garage. Seeing the car perfectly position itself between walls and columns is impressive to say the least. Although there is room for improvement, such as refining the operation of the Fronk door and adding Apple Car Play, the value of this car is far greater than the cost. The bright white seats are a highlight and stunning, but they could be improved in form, control, and sophistication to match most high-end luxury cars. In short, Elon Musk has created something very special with the Model S, and the 2018 Model demonstrates Tesla's commitment to excellence.

  4. Blaze Cronin 2025-02-11

Driving a Tesla is like having a relationship with your computer, but it takes you places! What's even cooler is that you're driving the most technologically advanced automobile in the world. While other car companies focus on mechanical innovation, Tesla's software is what makes their cars unique, adaptable, and affordable. Plus, with regular software upgrades, the model year of your car no longer matters as much. We're considering replacing our BMW 2 series with a Tesla 3 - it's just that good!

  5. Craig Ondricka 2025-02-07

I have been driving my Model S 75D for 18 months and 18,000 miles now, and I must say that I am quite satisfied with my purchase. The car has an amazing amount of room for carrying cargo and passengers, and the ride, acceleration, and seat comfort are all spectacular. For 99% of my driving, the range of the 75D is more than adequate, but for a 300-400 mile road trip, I would prefer the 402 mile range of the 'long range plus' 100D. Charging at home is very cheap, and the convenience of it is amazing. I no longer have to drive to a gas station to fill up, and supercharging on the road is way cheaper than the cost of gas. It only requires minor adjustments to your trip, and the time saved over the course of a year not having to make special trips to the gas stations more than makes up for a little extra time on a road trip. I have had no service issues with the car, and while customer service could be better, I still find the overall experience to be quite positive. The only thing I would like to see is the option of real leather interior, but to tell the truth, most people think it is real leather until I tell them otherwise.
